Doesn’t change the fact the ball was deflected to a Rider. Not good at all. Can’t be denied. But for those two plays we did well against a top-two defence in this league AND held their offence to limited yardage. Nobody’s going to shut out a team these days..
-
We did not get a pick six..our only interception didn’t result in any points..
-
The results were indicated it wasn’t a good game, but it doesn’t wipe out the fact that we did have a good game plan, that without those two mistakes would have resulted in a win. But, still, two mistakes wipes out the fact that we played a tight game and, on equal ground, had them beat. Of course Saskatchewan wasn’t going to lie down and surrender, but it is nice to have a two TD cushion on 2 plays to play with. I’m sure nobody’s more frustrated right now than the members of that Football club
-
And here I thought we played a pretty good game. Tight. Putting aside the hatred for the QB, Coaches, we lost that game on 2 plays. Punt return TD and a deflected pick. 14 points. Otherwise we beat that Sask defence. We beat that Sask offence. We had the better game plan..from our Coaches. If we weren’t in the throws of a 3 game losing streak, most would feel, just on the game itself, that that was a pretty good game. Bad result, but we had the game plan and mostly we had the execution. We would have taken that win on 2 plays if the roles were reversed, but not today. Every team can lose in a game like today’s. It’s just a piss off that it happened to us at this time. Two plays bring on more hysteria..

Well, at least we have this stat..

CFL Game Notes - CFL.ca 👁🗨well, if you go by stats..the Bombers are in for a tough time in Regina.. Ugly, ugly stats Chris Jones is 46-35 as a HC Mike O’Shea is 40-42 Sask is 35-19 over Wpg in the Labour Day Classic. 29 of those games have been decided only in the last 3 minutes. The meetings since 2002 have generally not been all that close - only 5 of the last 16 games were decided in the last 3:00 - Saskatchewan comes into the game with a better record (5-4 vs 5-5) than Winnipeg for the first time since 2014 - QBs: Saskatchewan will start their 4th straight different QB in the Classic, with Zach Collaros; Matt Nichols will start his 3rd in a row (Nichols started once for Edmonton vs Calgary and threw for 203 yards); Matt Nichols has yet to be held under 300 passing yards; he has 341 & 364 yards in his two Winnipeg LDW starts (16-17) (Nichols started once for Edmonton vs Calgary and threw for 203 yards) - Zach Collaros has also yet to be held under 300 passing yards in an LDW game; his three 300+ games were with Hamilton - Zach Collaros becomes the 38th player to start a Labour Day Weekend game for the Riders; Nichols is starter #39 for Winnipeg - Winnipeg snapped a Saskatchewan 11-game win streak in their 2016 LD Weekend meeting but dropped to 1 win in 13 last year - The Riders have outgained Winnipeg in the last 7 LDW meetings by over 100 yards per game (Avg: 388 to 275) Breaking Down Who Wins LDW Classic: There have been 54 previous games in this LD matchup and here is how it has broken down based on which club came into the game with a better record. The Bombers are 5-5 this year compared to the Riders at 5-4. WPG came in with better record: 29 times (Wins: SSK 18, WPG 11) SSK came in with better record: 15 times (Wins: SSK 11, WPG 4) Note: Teams came in with even records 10 times As the Riders were seeking in 2017, the underdog has often won this LD Weekend matchup. The Bombers have only 4 upset wins as underdogs i.e. the team lower in the standings heading in. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Other Team Notes – Winnipeg at Saskatchewan: - Charleston Hughes: Leads the CFL with 12 Sacks (7 more than any other player) and comes into this game with a streak of 7 straight games with at least one. That is the longest consecutive games streak in his career, his previous long run was set at 6 in a row from Jun 28/14 to Aug 9/14. - Most consecutive games with a QB Sack: Over the last 25 years, here are the longest streaks with at least one QB Sack. Charleston Hughes has tied the most by any Saskatchewan player and is 3 short of the highest on record since 1994 👁🗨Joe Montford and Philip Hunt are the two players ahead of Hughes, each with 10 game streaks. - Sam Hurl 100 GP/ U of Calgary: Hurl will suit up this week for CFL game #100 in his career and it will be start #56. He is a prominent member of a remarkable 99 players that have come to the CFL from the Dinos - of those 99 individuals Hurl will become the 20th player of this group to make it to 100 career regular season games. - Nichols 9-3 .750 coming off a loss: Despite a second straight loss last week, Matt Nichols has had a remarkable run since July 2016 in the next start after a Blue Bombers loss as he will be doing again this week. In his last 12 starts after a Winnipeg defeat the club has gone 9-3 for a .750 winning %. - Avoiding 3 losses in a row: The Bombers have not lost 3 games in a row in the same season since the final three weeks of 2015. They have gone a span of 46 games with just 5 streaks of 2 defeats in a row and none longer than that. 5 of the last 6: The Riders have beaten Winnipeg just once in the last 6 games. This is the best Bombers' 6-game run against their Saskatchewan rivals in the last 13 years. Opponents' 502 net yards: The Bombers yielded just 325 net yards per game over their first 8 contests and through Week #9 ranked #4 in the CFL. Since then, they have given up 502 yards per game (493 & 511), the highest in the CFL since Week #9. The main area where this has come is on 1st down plays. First 8 games: 6.3 yards per play, Gm #9-10: 8.3 yards per play. Riders Sacks Allowed: Saskatchewan allowed 9 Sacks in their first 4 games. Since then in 5 games they have yielded just 3. Expect some 2-&-Outs: The Riders are #1 forcing opponents 62 times into a 2-&-Out. Winnipeg is #3 with 53 forced 2-&-Outs. - Jovon Johnson: Sat out last week's game and that snapped his consecutive games played streak at 73 in a row. Andrew Harris: Was held to just 13 yards rushing last week on 7 carries. That tied his lowest yardage since Oct 7/15 vs EDM. - Josh Bartel Inside the 10: Bartel has 6 punts pinning opponents inside the 10-yard line this year, one off the CFL lead. He is #2 overall with 60 since 2012. Winnipeg's Justin Medlock in many less games is #3 since 2012 with 36 including 7 in 2018. - Offensive & Defensive TD Same Game: The Riders' Nick Marshall scored a touchdown on offence and defence in the same game two weeks ago with a 3-yard rush and a 67-yard INT return. That specific Offence/Defence TD pair had not occurred since Tyrone Walls for Edmonton on September 4, 1972 a span of 46 years. There have been only 4 such pure occurrences in the last 50 years. Last week, Marshall scored another offensive TD on a short run and actually leads the club in touchdowns with 4. The nearest since 1972 was Milt Stegall on July 15, 1999 who caught a 37-yard TD pass from Kerwin Bell and returned a blocked punt/fumble 52 yards for a score.

Practise Observations Aug 30, 2018
Mr Dee replied to Slingin Sammy's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Well, I did hear Collaros likes to be called Big Zach... -
👁🗨Whoa..it’s been a long week..crying, denying, accusations, call outs and apologies. And that’s just been in my house..😮 CFL.ca CFL Game #52 Team Notes – Montréal at Ottawa: - 303 yards passing / 2 TDs same game: Last week Antonio Pipkin led Montreal to their 25-22 win becoming the first Montreal QB to EVER throw for 300+ yards and score 2 TDs in the same game across their entire history (Sam Etcheverry never scored more than 1 TD in a game). It was the first 300-yard passing effort by an Als' QB since Darian Durant had 300+ exactly one year ago (316 vs WPG on Aug 24/17). Pipkin was 22-of-32 for 303 yards including 7-for-8 for 101 yards in the 4th Quarter. Pipkin was the first Montreal QB to score 2 TDs in a game since Sep 7/14 (Tanner Marsh). - Last week's win vs Toronto: The Alouettes played their best game of the season in a critical home contest vs the Argos. Montreal snapped a club record 9-game HOME losing streak, the last 8 of which they had lost by an average margin of 25.9 points per game. Their win over Toronto was built around their first 300-yard passing effort of 2018 and a season-high 22 first downs. - A win on the road: The Alouettes look to turn around a road run that has seen them go 1-12 in their last 13 away from Montreal. They are 1-4 this year with a win in Regina but have not won an East Division away game since Nov 5/16 at Hamilton. They come in with 5-game East Division road losing streak. Two with 100+ Tackles?: The Alouettes have the Top 2 tacklers in the CFL this year with both Henoc Muamba and Chris Ackie at 64 on pace for 115 by season's end. NO CFL team has EVER had the Top 2 tacklers in the same season since the league started recording this game data in 1989. BC in 2016 (Elimimian & Bighill) is the only team to ever have two 100+ tacklers in one season. And as a final note, Branden Dozier's pace (97) is also near 100 which could potentially make three Alouettes over the century mark. - Trevor Harris 1,229 yards: Has led the REDBLACKS to 4 wins in their last 5 games and will be making career start #52 (27-22-2). Harris' 3-game passing yardage total of 1,229 yards (381, 487, 361) is the most by any CFL QBG since 2015 (Henry Burris 1,294 in a 3- game span) and second-highest since Anthony Calvillo's 1,242 yards in September 2003. Harris' career record vs Montreal is his best against any opponent with 7 victories and just one loss. Of his 25 career 300+ yard games, 5 have come against the Alouettes. Harris leads the CFL in completion % at 69.6%. Richie Leone: Has a unique streak of 4 games in a row with a punt that has pinned the opposition inside their own 10-yard line. Over his last two games his NET punt average is 43.2 yards and he now leads the CFL in that critical measure. - 76 players / 54 starters: Last year Montreal used a club record 83 players. This year just beyond half-way, they are already at 76 players who have played at least one game. They have had 54 different starters in 10 games. - A.C. Leonard 4 in a row: Has a current streak of 4 consecutive games with a QB Sack. That matches the longest streak by any REDBLACKS player tying Justin Capicciotti's 4-game run of Aug 23/15 - Sep 19/15. - John Bowman: Recorded his second Sack of the season last week and now has 123, just 3 behind Stewart Hill who ranks #7 all-time with 126. Bowman recorded his 200th career start last week. - William Powell 4 100's: Comes into this game riding back-to-back 100-yard rushing efforts and has 4 for the season - as many as he had all last year and a career-high. The last Ottawa player to have 5 games of 100+ yards in a season was Josh Ranek in 2003. Lewis Ward 96%: Ward began his career with a 3-for-4 FG performance in the season opener and since then has not missed a FG attempt (though he did miss one conversion). Ward is now 27-for-28 96.4% with a streak of 24 makes in a row, the longest streak ever made by a 1st Year player - his 24 straight has included 7 from 40+ yards. Last week's comeback: Montreal was able to overcome a 6-point deficit last week vs Toronto and post their first comeback victory since Jul 14/17 vs Calgary, a span of 24 games. - 36 points per game: Ottawa has rolled up point totals of 41, 24 and 44 points including 12 TD drives in just 41 total possessions. Their TD drive % has been 21% over those 3 contests compared to just 10% (9 TDs on 89 drives) over the first 6 games. - Way Out in Front - 61 to 28: The REDBLACKS have built some very large leads of late in winning 4 of 5. In their last 4 games they have pulled out to leads of 10, 24, 7 and 24 points and outscored the opposition by a combined 61-28 in the 1st half. Brad Sinopoli 126?: Was held to just 3 catches last game stopping his streak of 4 or more at 9 games. However, he remains on pace for 126 receptions which would tie Allen Pitts #2 all-time mark from 1994. - Greg Ellingson: Went six games without going over 100 yards but now has back-to-back games with 110 and 100 in the last two. For his career he has 5,592 yards in 83 games, an average of 67.4 yards per game which ranks #21 all-time in CFL history. With 19 catches in his last 2 games he is at 100 reception pace which would be a career best. - William Stanback: Stepped in for an injured Tyrell Sutton last week and gained 53 yards on the ground. He has now run the ball 16 times averaging 6.8 yards per carry in his limited opportunities as the #1 run option for Montreal. Bomber update vs Sask Pts allowed per game avg SSK 223 24.8 5th WPG 253 25.3 6th Pts per game..avg Wpg 31.5 1st Sack 23.9 6th Net offence Wpg 369.3 5th Sask 314.8 7th Opp net offence Sask 310.6. 2nd Wpg 360.7. 6th Winnipeg has a whopping 221 first downs (2nd) vs Sask. 145 (9th), but Sask is 3rd in allowing first downs - 45 ahead of Wpg’s 207 (7th) Sacks allowed - Sask 12 (1st) Wpg (15) tied for 2nd Sacks made - Sask 23 T1st Wpg 22 3rd

The Bombers probably aren’t watching the NFL cuts as much as other teams would, they only have Geoff Gray to keep an eye on. Montreal also only has one player to look at. By comparison, Ottawa has 3, Toronto has 3, Hamilton has 3, BC has 3, Calgary has 2, Edmonton and Saskatchewan have 7.. https://www.cfl.ca/2018/08/30/tracking-notable-former-cfl-players-south-border/

This is also true of our QB when he misses open receivers and guys drop balls. It’s a football game when anything can happen because of pressure or bumps, or a case of dropsies..or penalties. (Like the Ottawa game) C’mon. It’s a game. The would haves and could haves are not part of it. There would be way too many. Very few games are played cleanly. The results are an indication of many things. Execution being a major one. And it works, or not, for both teams.
