  1. If you saw poor Mike Sherman trying to unhook himself from that equipment, it takes the mystery out of how they run Coaches meetings, and why they look so poor in their execution.. And Saskatchewan lost to them...
  2. It was pretty obvious how Hamilton was going to attack our defensive attack. I never saw less than 6 or 7 guys on the line of scrimmage, and with the RB, they had 8 blockers. Add that to the fact that they knew where they were going with the ball. Smart on their part. Trouble is, I thought the Bombers should have known this little tidbit. If they did, dumb on our part. And we finally saw a glimpse of a rookie QB playing a good defence. But I don’t put one iota of blame on Streveler. He’s awesome. But, we did need to convert some 1st downs to keep the D off the field. Hamilton, with a hot Mazoli, is going to be a tough team. Best in the East. They had a great game plan for us and executed..
  3. Calgary and Ottawa have played 8 times since the REDBLACKS joined the CFL. The Stamps are unbeaten in the last 5 meetings but two of those have resulted in ties. Trevor Harris is 0-2-2 vs Calgary for Ottawa. -Calgary 'D': The Calgary defence has allowed only 2 Touchdowns in 26 possessions thus far (8%) vs their on TD rate of 25% (6/24). -Trevor Harris Depth: Harris threw 36 passes in Week #2 including a remarkable 4-for-4 deeper than 20 yards. Those 4 deep throws gained a total of 143 of his 345 passing yards (Ellingson 2 for 45 yds, Spencer 1 for 56, Thomas 1 for 42 yds). At Calgary 40-6 at home: The Stampeders are 40-6 at home over the last six seasons (2013-2018). Those 40 home wins are 13 more than any other team: CGY 40, EDM 27, BC 25. - 2-Point Convert Record: With 3 two-point converts last week, Ottawa tied the CFL single-game record (SSK 2014, EDM 2017). - 4 in a row: Back to 2017, the REDBLACKS have won 4 in a row, the second-longest win streak of their existence (6 straight 2015-16) CFL NOTES -13 Consecutive Losses: The Alouettes carry a club record 13 straight defeats into this week's game vs Saskatchewan. A loss to the Riders would tie Shreveport (1994) for the third longest losing streak in CFL history. The 1994 Pirates' 14 losses in a row is the longest losing streak in the modern era and longest in the last 70 years (Hamilton Wildcats 16 in a row in 1948). -Ottawa did not allow Saskatchewan into the Red Zone even once last week and inside the Ottawa 25 only once. -Trevor Harris Starts: Back to Aug 2017, Ottawa is 7-1 in Harris' last 8 starts but ... are just 1-2 in the games he has missed. -BLM: Mitchell has taken his all-time CFL-best win% as a starter to 58-10-2 .843 with a 2-0 start. Doug Flutie is #2 at .746. - Leading After Q1: If Calgary gets up after 15:00 they usually win. They are 1-0 in 2018, and 65-12 since 2011 when up after Q1. -Thus far, three CFL QBs have shone when looked at via the CFL's Quarterback rating (QUAR). Trevor Harris recorded a 98.7 rating out of 100 last week, while Chris Streveler (94.9) and Bo Levi Mitchell (92.2) have also exceeded the 90.0 mark. Their performance ratings combine high individual stats with top solid team numbers - for example Mitchell has led the Stamps to 31.5 offensive points per game, 484.0 net yards and a 2nd down conversion rate of 59.5%. Streveler's Winnipeg numbers are boosted by his #4 CFL ranking of 128 rushing yards, 6 TD passes and 109.5 pass efficiency rating. At the team level, Streveler has led the Bombers to a league-best 39.0 offensive ppg, and 444.0 net yards. -Through two weeks, Roughness penalties have dropped by just under 39% compared to 2017. -the Bombers have 1 receiver in the top ten for deep threats -Darvin Adams at # 7 Hamilton has 3. Edmonton 2 Calgary, Sask, Ott, and Toronto each have 1 -The total after 8 games is just 7 Challenges and only Montreal has had a successful one. That ask was a review of a potential fumble, the other 6 have involved Pass Interference challenges with no overturns of initial calls. -In 2016, there were 107 long-gainer "big play" kick returns or 1.32 per game. In 2017 that dropped to just 87 (1.07) or down 19%. In 2018, there have been just 7 in 8 games - 0.88 per game. -In 2017, teams averaged just 35.6 combined running plays per game. In 2018, that has jumped to 40.6 rush attempts per game - equivalent to a number not seen since 2003. In part, this is due to several long gainers and an average rush of 5.6 yards - well up from the 5.1 per carry average across the 2015-2017 seasons. In 2018, rushing attempts have accounted 37% of all play calls compared to 31% in 2017.
  4. I must say that it was a pleasure listening to Rod Smith calling the game last night, if only for the fact we are talking only about the game and not the play calling..
  5. Well, that online is doing pretty good for Ottawa with Johnson starting at tackle for the first time, and Korte starting his first CFL game. Of course it would have helped Sask. if somebody had given Hughes a ride to the game from Parliament Hill where they must have left him, because he sure wasn’t there at the game.. 0 sacks for Sask? No, there are a lot of sad sacs hanging about.
  6. The Riders are basically playing with 10 players and 2 bodies - Sam Hurl and Duron Carter. And yes, I did see the pick 6. I only give him credit for making a decent catch on a poorly thrown ball. Not as easy as last year's pick 6, but still, it wasn’t his defensive play that caused that turnover. Carter on D? OK, if you really want it Chris, but it doesn’t make you look smart..at all.
  7. Sure, he could join Darvin Adams, then we would just have to get Morticia, Gomez and Lurch and the set would be complete..😜
  8. Riders at Ottawa With a win this week the Riders can start 2-0 for the 1st time in 5 years (5-0 in 2013). They went 0-2 in '15, '16 & '17. - Open Door for OTT: The REDBLACKS are the only undefeated East Division team as all three rivals lost to the West in Wk #1. - Rider 'D': Saskatchewan led Wk #1 with the fewest yards allowed (265) and held Toronto to 5 points over the first 3 Quarters. - REDBLACKS Openers: They are 2-1-1 in their 4 season openers; this was their first Wk #1 Bye since their inaugural year. - Rider 'O': Saskatchewan generated just one offensive TD last week and 7 Two-&-Outs vs Toronto. - Short passing game: Zach Collaros threw deeper than 20 yards downfield only twice in their game vs Toronto (1/2 for 34 yds). - Field position: SSK did not start a single drive in Toronto's end last week (avg. at only their own 32) and had one RZ chance. - Trevor Harris: Has started against Saskatchewan 5 previous times (3-2) but just once last year. He has one 300+ game vs SSK. CFL Notes: - Challenges: There were only two in Week #1 and neither was successful (Per game - 2016: 2.2, 2017: 1.6, 2018: 0.5) - Missing "big play" kick returns: 2017: 87 in 81 games; 2018 Week #1: 2 (both by Winnipeg) - Scoring: Was just 45.8 points per game, down from an overall average of 53.1 in 2017 and 52.9 per game in 2016. - TD Drive %: In 2017 that stat averaged 17%, the highest since 2008. In Week #1 the TD drive % dropped back to 13%. - Penalties: Dropped to just 17.8 per game (incl. declined), down for the 4th straight season since a recent high of 23.5 in 2015. - QB Sacks: Averaged 4.8 per game in Week 31, the highest rate since 2015 (5.7 per game). - Home teams: Won 3 of the 4 games - much better than their 41-39-1 .512 mark in 2017. - Mike Reilly: Threw for 408 yards, the 5th time he has gone 400+ in his career. He engineered his 20th career Q4 winning drive. - Bo Levi Mitchell: Won as a starter for the 57th time raising his CFL-best mark to 57-10-2 .841; he threw deep 13 times. - Charleston Hughes: Led the CFL with 3 Sacks moving up to #11 all-time becoming the 11th man to reach 100+ for his career. - Derel Walker: Nearly did what only one player has ever done - go over 200 receiving yards in Wk #1 (Brian Kelly 205, 1983) - Montreal: Lost 22-10 at BC and have now dropped a club record 12 consecutive games. - Calgary Red Zone: Though they got in to the Red Zone a CFL-high 6 times, they cashed just one for a TD vs Hamilton. - Zach Collaros: Won as a starter for the first time since Sept 2016. Had lost 12 in a row (one short of record 13 by L.Amedee). - S.J. Green: Was the CFL's most targeted receiver with 12 last week but caught only 5 for 51 yards. - Mike Jones: Went for 120 yards on only 5 catches - an average of 24.0 yards and caught of 2-of-3 deep throws (20+ yards). - FG Kickers: Made 18 of 20 attempts in Week #1 (90%); the all-time record is 84.0% set in 2017. Kickers made all 13 C-1 kicks. - Sean Whyte: Made a field goal from 52 yards, the only kick attempted from beyond the 46-yard line all week. - Ty Long: Led all punters with a 54.4 yard average and a net of 40.9 yards per kick. - Nakas Onyeka: Led all Special Teams tacklers with four - two more than any other player. - Passing dominance: Passing accounted for 74% of all yards gained in Week #1. - 2-&-Outs: Week #1 dropped off a little from 2017 when clubs had a combined 8.7 per game. Last week that number was 10.5.  QB Pressures: The statistic for QB Pressures instituted last year has been suspended for review by the CFL. This is primarily due to its subjectivity and real difficulty in being consistent from play to play. Our coaches have expressed that for it to be helpful it needs to be applied in the same way for each pass drop back but that remains a real challenge for our stats crews.
  9. Another episode of Young and the Reckless.. I don’t believe the hit was out of place.
  10. I want to pre-thank any other well wishers and I’ll keep plugging on, but let’s keep this thread going. It’s going to be a good one.
  11. I can’t answer for D or D, but my feature, In Case You Missed It will be on hiatus for a bit while I go on the 6 game IR. It’s a bit of a process to put together that bit and I’m fighting some health issues at this time. I’ll be checking in daily with some minor stuff..and I hope that works out.
  12. Riders secret weapon played a role in sinking Argos offence Rider fans aren’t happy with this article by Justin Dunk : http://3downnation.com/2018/06/18/riders-secret-weapon-played-a-role-in-sinking-argos-offence/
  13. Whoa..quite the post there. But do be careful, that man may have plenty of resources..
  14. 👁‍🗨Yes, apparently, Gale approached the Bombers and showed them his CFL card. He has 5 holes punched in that card, and would the Bombers mind making them his 6th team? Walters and LaPo, always accommodating, granted his request, and he now has joined 6 Teams in the CFL. That card we are talking about is becoming known as the Glenn Card (GC for short) and is accepted in all CFL cities. Truly an honour to have one of these GCs, and nobody can say different. G.P. Comp. Att. Yds. TD Int. Aver. 13. 88. 158 1050. 4 3. 6.6
  15. I think Sherritt made a hell of a play on that ball, basically using one arm, down low, to direct the ball back to himself. Somehimes, the defender should get credit for making a play. This was one of those times.
  16. Well, he’s starting a losing streak..
  17. Two great QBs - BL Mitchell and Mike Reilly The difference? Reilly was punch on in his first game..hardly could do wrong. Mitchell is off and consequently the TiCats are in this game..
  18. Thank you guys, I thought I was missing something there on those non-calls. Then I thought, if I was missing something... I could be a CFL referee.
  19. Aside from being entertained last night, in a very eye-opening, season opening game, I’m looking forward to watching the Argos lay a beating on the Riders and their can’t miss second place team. I’ll be entertained once again and will take pleasure in their ever so co*cky fans taking one on the chin or their nether regions. 😁
  20. You know when you know somebody who gives you reliable information, somebody who knows somebody sort of thing. And that source gives you tip top information? Insight. And you get to look forward to that source’s information. That’s good. Then, something changes, your source moves, or changes jobs, whatever, and now the inside info is gone. The source dries up. We can only hope..😃
  21. The mere fact that fans are talking about the loss, and the way we lost, instead of how we played a rookie 23 yr. old QB and were this close to snagging a victory, should be brought up time and time again. Last year, and the backup QBs we had, we would have been out of this game early with no chance to come back. Channel the inner Streveler, and revel in the fact that we have a real back up QB. The wins will be coming soon..
  22. I hope June Jones was watching the game. He’ll have seen vintage Reilly in that game, and that kind of performance is pretty well standard for him. The kind of performance I doubt we’ll see consistently from his “best we’ll ever see” QB. That game last night was a highly entertaining football game. It would have been even better without the delays. Many on here are pointing fingers, but only a few are pointing them at the reason Edmonton won that game - Mke Reilly. How he escaped that relentless pressure, more than a few times is ‘palm to the head’ d’oh worthy. And he made plays. Also, his receivers made some outstanding catches for him. It was not an easy game to watch the team lose, but really, going in, how many expected us to gunsling with one of the best. We still lost, but we gained ever so much in that game.
  23. Strevelation will sweep the nation..
