  1. ALOUETTES AND REDBLACKS What to watch for: Kyries Hebert playing his former team Drew Willy and Matthew Shiltz vying for #1 QB spot Trevor Harris Noel Thorpe..and his new Ottawa Defence. Big-ticket free agent signing Loucheiz Purifoy is in the starting lineup at SAM linebacker, while the REDBLACKS are also ready to unleash the former Riders pass-rushing duo Jonathan Newsome and A.C. Leonard. Jamaal Westerman will not play for the Als, but marquee defensive back signings Tommie Campbell and Mitchell White will, as will former first overall pick and middle linebacker Henoc Muamba. -second overall pick Trey Rutherford will play CFL.CA Staff Should be an..interesting game
  2. "I just think we’re going to be one of the best defences Winnipeg has seen and in the league." @The_HitchnPost 48-Hour Primer. - Kevin Fogg Damn if I don’t agree with this. In the past, last year for example, we’ve had to “settle” at at least 1 position, that is, play somebody who was not suited for the necessary role. It’s not hard to guess who that was last year, and in the recent past. When it became apparent that there was going to be an open competition at MLB, that automatically made us better. When we signed Bighill, well, words cannot describe what that will do for everybody connected to defence. Bighill, and the quality players brought in on defence, and the competition for each spot, will make it an exciting season for sure.
  3. We’re not talking about only one practice though. We’re talking about building a strong showing. You know a solid foundation. Quietly would indicate without fanfare and recognition. It’s still nice to hear a positive camp report about a player who does not receive much pen work. That is my only point.
  4. Sigh. You can’t let it go eh? First of all, let me make this clear. Eric M made a rather innocent statement, and quite a mild one I might add. Inform me how “quietly solid” is an overstatement. “quietly solid” does not boast or brag or predict great things. It’s a rather ‘safe’ statement. When you said he was overstating it, yes, I did question it even though I’m not of this planet. Tell me, why would you take offence to that? I simply referred to Mr M’s phraseology. My location has nothing to do with it. And who said you were flat out wrong? Methinks you’re overreacting. Can I say that from Kelowna?
  5. Following a day off the field on Monday, the Saskatchewan Roughriders returned to the Griffiths Stadium turf on Tuesday to being the second week of 2018 Training Camp, and Day 10. 👁‍🗨 Notably, none of the players were wearing helmets, but rather towels, on their heads..😜 👁‍🗨Huh? Rookie corner back Nick Marshall, who recorded an interception against the Eskimos, took a handful of reps at QB on Tuesday and looked impressive. He threw a deep spiral to WR Caleb Holley which would’ve set up an 80-yard touchdown, but Holley dropped the ball. - Regarding looking at Marshall at quarterback, Jones said, “Well he led the nation in rushing so we’ll just take a look at him.” 😮
  6. I’m stating it now..I’m over it, in a quiet and solid manner.
  7. I know how to read and interpret. I would venture to say that Eric M has covered more of the training camp than me..and you. Am I wrong?
  8. Really? I don’t see how you could look at it that way. Maybe you’re overstating.. I don’t see anything wrong with the way Eric M. phrased it.
  9. It’s these side stories that I like hearing about..
  10. Watching the Saskatchewan game, and the unhatted Chris Jones reminds of a game last fall where it was visibly apparent that Jones was freezing. Red cheeks, red nose and ears, and yet he refused to put on a parka, or a toque. That’s probably when he thought it would be a good idea to double use your best receiver, and play him as a defensive back. Stats for Carter against Edmonton? 2 tackles and no receptions. Sooner or later, Carter will be exposed on D. Maybe as much as Jones’s forehead and ears.
  11. I don’t know whose bright idea this is, but you’re right. Leave the stories for side shows. The value of the game itself more than carries its share of entertainment. And please, no more in game interviews. They are entertainment killers..
  12. Things to agree on, or not, on Sunday: 👁‍🗨Mark Chapman, 1st round CFL draft pick, has not signed with the Ticats. Interesting decision to miss his first pro camp with Hamilton... 👁‍🗨Former NFL QB Josh Freeman is indeed that, having been both fired and retired. Another oopsie at recruiting for Montreal.. 👁‍🗨 Nice to see and hear Chandler Fenner’s “kid-walks-into-a-candy-store-for-the first-time” attitude and excitement.. I liked the signing then, I like it even more now. Adding to this D’s versatility.. Don Landry reports on that infamous CFL Media poll: “Every team got at least one vote except for the Ottawa REDBLACKS” CFL News - In the first pre-season game of 2018, neither Brandon Bridge nor newcomer Zach Collaros are currently in the plans at quarterback for Chris Jones and the Roughriders 👁‍🗨Why isn’t more being said about the questionable depth of the Ottawa RedBlacks QB stable? William Arndt, Danny Collins, Dominique Davis and Trevor Harris. And finally, CFL game day with Saskatchewan visiting the Eskimos. CFL football is back!!
  13. Yeah, I kinda waxed over him didn’t I? And probably others. Not on purpose though. Once you start looking at all the names, they start to blend together. I started seeing names in my head like Justin Goltz and Darian Durant..so I quit while I was ahead.. BTW...that’s not my list.
  14. I think Montreal has a long list of QBs that they will bring in and cut. And some of them will be better than the ones they kept. MOMENTS IN MONTREAL - I wonder if Vernon Adams or Brandon Bridge have fond memories of their moments.
  15. A Recap of the Recaps STANDING OUT: We (Ed Tait) try to make a note on all those who make at least one stand-out play on each day at camp. Here’s who has earned a checkmark from bluebombers.com through the first two days… Sunday: DT Cory Johnson, WR Darvin Adams, QB Matt Nichols, SB Nic Demski, SB Daniel Petermann, C Matthias Goossen, QB Alex Ross, DB Tyniel Cooper, CB Chris Randle Monday: LB/DB Chandler Fenner, CB Brandon Alexander, WR Myles White, WR Weston Dressler, SB A.J. Coney, WR Tylor Henry, DE Craig Roh and DB Kevin Fogg, who had an interception on the last play of the day. Standing out in the first two-a-day of training camp were: SB Nic Demski, WR Corey Washington, DB Anthony Gaitor, DT Drake Nevis, DT Cory Johnson, QB Alex Ross, RB Timothy Flanders, QB Matt Nichols, CB Chris Randle, WR Ryan Lankford, CB Brandon Alexander. STANDING OUT: DB Marcus Sayles, WR Weston Dressler, S Taylor Loffler, RB Andrew Harris, WR Darvin Adams, DE Craig Roh, CB Chris Randle, WR Ryan Lankford. Thursday’s prime-time players, from this perch, included DB Marcus Sayles – again – WR Darvin Adams, QB Matt Nichols, DE Jackson Jeffcoat, DT Cory Johnson, WR A.J. Coney, QB Alex Ross, WR Myles White, LB Adam Bighill, LB Jovan Santos-Knox. Friday - WR Darvin Adams, QB Matt Nichols, QB Alex Ross, QB Chris Streveler, DB Tyniel Cooper, WR A.J. Coney, DB Steven Clarke, LB Quentin Gause, WR Donteea Dye, CB Brian Walker., Notice Darvin Adams..because he has been noticed 4 times already through camp. Same with our ‘scrub’ QB Matt Nichols and.. Alex Ross 4 A.J. Coney 3 Corey Johnson 3 CB Chris Randle Nic Demski 2 CB Brandon Alexander 2 DB Marcus Sayles 2 WR Myles White 2 WR Weston Dressler 2 DE Craig Roh 2 Ryan Lankford 2 👁‍🗨Aw shucks... “I’m fortunate to be on the field with an organization like Winnipeg. I couldn’t ask for much more: the sun’s out, it’s training camp and I feel like we’ve got one of the best teams in the league.” Rashaun Simonise 👁‍🗨 The good thing about the signing of Bryan Bennett’s that he has the same initials as the Blue Bombers. The bad thing is, so did Brian Brohm..
  16. Sheer coincidence, I suppose, that you used exactly 15 words to express your opinion..😎 😃
  17. A possible reason he was ignored here?
  18. Lankford again..
  19. BRIAN HELBERG..on the BC Lions Remember? - Solomon Elimimian broke his own record for defensive tackles in a season by recording 144 defensive stops. Chris Greaves (N)- signed as a free agent on February 13th. Greaves has 112 CFL games under his belt, split between Winnipeg, Edmonton and Montreal. 141- the number of ‘quarterback pressures’ allowed by the offence in 2017, the highest total in the CFL. By comparison, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers allowed a league-low 71. Fun fact - The average height of the 16 defensive backs in Kamloops is 6’ 0” and the average weight is 192 pounds. The average age of the Lions secondary is 26 and the average BC defensive back has played in the CFL for three seasons. The Leos were aggressive this winter, landing Garry Peters, Dominique Termansen, A.J. Jefferson, Otha Foster III, Cauchy Muamba and Mike Dubuisson all in the first week of free agency. Winston Rose and Marcell Young were signed shortly thereafter. Of the 16 defensive backs on the roster, 10 of them are six feet or taller. The CFL.CA Staff made a list of 20 position battles to watch throughout training camp. They mentioned the Bombers in 3 position battles. 9. WILL linebacker, Winnipeg Blue Bombers The Participants: Jovan Santos-Knox, Ian Wild The Favourite: Jovan Santos-Knox All off-season, when reporters asked if the Bombers would bring in Henoc Muamba, Kyle Walters and Mike O’Shea maintained their trust in Jovan Santos-Knox. The signing of Adam Bighill shores up the middle linebacker spot in Winnipeg, but Santos-Knox is still in the running for a job at WILL linebacker. The pressure is on for both Santos-Knox and the veteran Ian Wild, who appear to be in competition for the WILL linebacker position. 12. Backup quarterback, Winnipeg Blue Bombers The Participants: Alex Ross, Chris Streveler, Zack Mahoney The Favourite: Alex Ross Even with just one year next to his name, Alex Ross may be the Bombers’ second-string quarterback by default following the departure of Darian Durant. He was supposed to compete to be the team’s developmental third-stringer, but now he’s the most sensible backup due to his experience. Chris Streveler has talent but is just 23 and too raw to be thrown into the fire, while Canadian Zack Mahoney is likely fighting for a chance just to stay on the roster after going undrafted. 18. Field wideout, Winnipeg Blue Bombers The Participants: Drew Wolitarsky, Tylor Henry, Daniel Petermann, Tyrone Pierre, Rashaun Simonise, Brendon Thera-Plamondon The Favourite: Drew Wolitarsky It’s no secret that the Bombers plan to start two Canadian receivers on offence, with one of those spots occupied by newcomer Nic Demski. Former supplemental draft pick Drew Wolitarsky seems to have the inside track on the job, but a talented crop of rookies could make for a difficult decision from the coaching staff. Rashaun Simonise is the big name here. The former University of Calgary receiver is considered a bit raw after being out of football for the last year, but he’s been in an NFL camp with the Cincinnati Bengals and has the highest upside of any Canadian receiver on the roster aside from perhaps Demski. The rest of the list is here: https://www.cfl.ca/2018/05/22/position-battles-20-watch-training-camp/ 👁‍🗨 Well, they closed the MOS sleeper loophole today.. A loophole in the “sleeper” play rule is closed by making it illegal for a player who enters the game and remains outside the numbers to receive the ball in any manner, including a kick or lateral. Every player from the 2018 CFL Draft is now under contract – with the exception of those who signed in the NFL or are going back to school – 1st ro7nd choice Chapman remains the lone unsigned selection. First overall CFL draft pick Mark Chapman and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats are “light years” apart in contract negotiations, per league sources. Multiple sources say Chapman wants a deal in line with what Rutherford and Ekakitie received while Hamilton is trying to get a below-market contract. It was unanimous among scouts that Chapman was the most pro-ready player in the 2018 class. - Justin Dunk CFL News - U.S. fans with cable will have to pay $5/month more to watch the 68 #CFL games on ESPN+ awfulannouncing.com/espn/u-s-fans-… via @awfulannouncing 👁‍🗨 I mean, who doesn’t want to have 2 players on the team named Chinedu Oparaku and, of course, Tristan Okpalaugo? An updated depth chart from John Hodge: 👁‍🗨 MOS on Adam Bighill: “There was a point in the interview where (Bighill) talked about the competitive spirit he has and his statement was ‘I’m going to beat you.’ That’s all you need to write. That’s who he is." ow.ly/lxUw30kaCgz Love it! 👁‍🗨 I disagree with the NFL’s ‘stance’ on must stand for the National anthem and the heavy-handed approach they’re taking. Last year, this is what our Commissioner said about our Anthem:
  20. According to Darrin Bauming: Well, we do know it will be a tight battle in the West this year, but to rank the Bombers so haphazardly shows that those media types have not been paying attention.
  21. There’s no doubt we’ve failed miserably in recruiting QBs..for whatever reason. I wouldn’t single out Walters exclusively though, he’s simply following what seems to be a tradition. Develop? I don’t really care if we trade for one or find one when we spend $.75 and pay for it with a loonie. The veteran back up plan seemed to be a good idea however, in theory anyways. Kevin Glenn is a good example. LeFevour, not so much. Durant? ‘Nough said. Its perplexing, but maybe, just maybe that tradition is coming to an end.
  22. Yeah, it’s kinda too bad that the moniker is already taken because A-Rod would be an apt nickname for Pedersen...
