Flying High into Montréal: Bombers vs. Als
Mr Dee replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The big edge Loffler has over Jones is experience, and that is massive, but Jones is faster than Loffler, and has played well in spot duty. The gap between them might not be as big as some think, especially since he will be getting help. The problem occurs because there will also be a number of changes in the secondary and that might also affect the safety play. -

Flying High into Montréal: Bombers vs. Als

We have our own Jones who will not be wearing a t-shirt. Derek Jones, whom O'Shea considers a starter will be the safety. We will be fine. -
On the Watson play, I was more mad at the lack of good tackling by the Bombers than the 'holdin' from Edmonton. Could have gone either way. Not worth a challenge. As to the DBs being run over, your "letter of the law" quote is accurate. A CFL source has confirmed that very wording. And yes, as to the way the call is made on DBs, that has to change, when they are obviously run into. That very fact was brought up by none other than Chris Jones. He believes that Calgary runs plays exactly for that reason..that is, to draw contact penalties. Especially before the challenge rule was changed. I believe there is some truth to that belief. To me, if a defender is merely 'standing his ground', I don't see why an illegal contact penalty should be called. This call invites receivers to initiate contact for that very reason.

Hebert hasn’t denied the hit was illegal, and Durant realizes the fine won’t be quashed. Through the first eight games, Harris has had 90 rushed and 50 receptions – the most offensive touches in the CFL by a mile (Calgary’s Jerome Messam is second at 128; 112 carries, 16 receptions). Weston Dressler, who has missed three games, has also been running more of late and could be back within the next couple of weeks. “He makes sure he runs around Al (Bombers Head Athletic Therapist Al Couture),” said O’Shea with a grin. “He does circles around him and runs in front of him to let him know he’s ready to go.” ??How meaningful is Ottawa’s win over Hamilton? Around the League - Regular Season Discussion (Redux)
Mr Dee replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
That injury last night to Owusu-Ansah... #Argos have moved Plummber to WILL, Ball to SAM, Vaughn to Safety, Black to Field Corner, Murray to boundary corner. #CFLFantasy #DFS #Argos ??Now that's a disruption... Positive sign at today's walkthrough-style #Bombers practice; DB Brandon Alexander has shed the knee brace and is getting some work on D. ??Wally wore it. Dickenson wore it. O'Shea wore it. Trestman wore it. Chapdelaine wore it. These two guys wore them. This guy didn't… What's up with that? -
Too funny...
-
If I was a BC fan, I would hope that the reason Lulay isn't starting is because he's injured. Jennings is looking stupid bad nowadays. He's playing exactly like his bobble head counterpart.
-
We're talking about exploring beyond the limits set by traditional punters. How can you not admire the mind of Justin Medlock. Always looking for new ways to kick the ball. I mean, purposely trying to put a spin on the ball when punting. Oh no, he's not worth the money...
-
So, stay conservative...

POWERFUL MESSAGE from the Terminator.

Two things I forgot to include. Must have been when I spilled my coffee.. ??I forgot to include the absolute most BS call the CFL calls these days. A defensive contact penalty when the defender is holding his ground. This penalty was called last night when Cory Watson levelled Heath just as Loffler was intercepting Reilly's pass. Heath was NOT running and suddenly stopping (justification) but rather when he was just standing there. O'Shea challenged and lost. That's just wrong...IMO ??And secondly, on special teams, when the Eskimos tried that onside kick, well, aren't our players well Coached up on how to block on it. Between the time O'Neil kicked the ball and Adams snagged it, there wasn't an Eskimo still standing to try and retrieve it. They were all levelled. Beautiful to watch.
-
@Throw Long Bannatyne and @SpeedFlex27 There is very little difference in that play and any other play the Bombers run, other than one more person handling the ball. They obviously saw something in the Eskimo alignments that put forth an argument to try that play. You guys didn't like it, fine, but don't talk to me about the ultra conservative play calling of LaPo anymore.
-
Yeah, I like the theory of what you're saying. But there's absolutely no proof/guarantee that the next play will work or will not work. Like I said, they practiced that play, for that situation. It didn't work. It was exactly like getting stuffed on a running play. That also happens. It was a well scripted series that ate up the clock, but no different than running a myriad of plays that don't always work. Cest la vie..
-
Gerry Moddejonge - Edmonton Journal... "While the Eskimos have done well over the first seven games almost seamlessly substituting players onto the field in different packages in order to get certain personnel matchups while maintaining the ratio, their injury situation reached a breaking point Thursday, manifesting itself in four penalties for having too many men." “We’ve had a lot of substitution packages in because of the way we were playing our guys,” Maas said. “(The Bombers) are good at recognizing that and playing with a good tempo and got us caught a few times. “And then obviously with some injuries there were a little bit more guys moving in and out because of it. So they did a good job (Thursday), my hat’s off to Winnipeg and I give them all the credit.” http://edmontonjournal.com/sports/football/cfl/edmonton-eskimos/mounting-injuries-and-poor-first-half-ends-eskimos-win-streak?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+edmontonjournal%2FBPhZ+(Edmonton+Journal+)

3 stars plus HH broken esks streak edition
Mr Dee replied to wbbfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Before last night we ranked 5th in rushing yards and 2nd in rushing yards allowed. 93.6 rushing for per game....77.6 rushing yards allowed per game. I'm not as worried as you. -
I just saw that infamous trick play for the first time today as I missed the first quarter. I see nothing wrong in calling that play. They saw something, they practiced it, and called it at the appropriate position on the field. It failed. It's really no different than getting stuffed, getting sacked or missing a throw/catch. It was a loss of a down, nothing more, nothing less. I for one, applaud any attempt to confuse, demoralize any team by using whatever means to BEAT them. Sometimes any play call doesn't work. Oh well, on to the next play. Hindsight is not fulfilling for me..
-
If we're going to bring LaPo into any conversation, and talk about the Red Zone, let us not forget the problems we've had in the past. It was more like the forbidden zone. Before last night, the Bombers were 4th in Red Zone production. Not too bad. Behind only BC, Ottawa, and Saskatchewan. Not only that. What about at the other end of the field? Many, many times we have started DEEP in our own end...and we move the ball to a more manageable area for field position. That's the offence. That's LaPo. So, if we criticize him at one end, we have to give him credit for the yardage the Bombers move the ball. The OC is looking good in our 6-2 record. If you don't believe me, ask Matt Nichols..
-
What a delicious problem to have in talking about Oko, and Lankford and Flanders and who's in and who's out. WE are now the ones who have a surplus of quality players. Oh, to choose...
-
??Glad we held that tackle-breaking class just before this game. It seemed every ball carrier broke at least one tackle. It was like they had a competition on who could break more... ??They have it wrong. It's not location, location, location. It's possession, possession, possession. And the Bomber possessed. That happens when our O keeps their O off the field.. ??Truly, I have never seen Harris play so well as in this game. ??And the groans grows louder from one province over... ??Couldn't beat us, even with luck and circus catches. ??Brilliant game management by the Bombers. Caught them 3-4 times with too many men on the field. Awesome. ??I'm throwing my playbook away. I don't need it. LaPolice has got it covered. This team is spreading its wings and every player is getting involved. LaPolice is making it happen. It's really fun to watch. ??So nice to have Flanders as an option. ??Absolutely love winning a Thursday night game. With 2 points in our pocket, we can settle in and watch the other teams beat themselves up. ??What's not to like about over 30,554 fans screaming madly for the team they love. Nichols wouldn't let him have the ball... ??I like the expression - fundamental football. Fits this game. ??What's up TJ? Can't be the interception leader like that.. Jim Toth - #Bombers hurry up offence is really giving #Eskimos defence headaches... #CFL Terry Jones (Edmonton) - This game isn't even close. Other than the scoreboard. Darrin Bauming - That's *game-manager Matt Nichols driving the field again... ??Bombers no-huddle-offence - "cheetah" - gotta love that... Juicy...Arash Madani- Kenny Stafford being cut by WPG in the pre-season wasn't about talent. He was a locker room issue. They took the cap hit for a clean break. Randy Turner - I'm beginning to think Andrew Harris just uses the first tackler to keep his balance. #Bombers ??To be honest, Eskimos were never reilly in this game. ??Harris - Player of the Week? Month? ??That game was....for the fans. Blue and Gold CFL Idc... Winnipeg is the 2nd best team in the CFL. And Calgary is on the radar #Bombers Troy Westwood - Coming into the game Edmonton had the #1 pass D in the #CFL allowing an average of 252.9 yards per game. Nichols threw for 390 tonight. ??W - for wicked ??Very nice work by the D-Line tonight, and for the most part...the secondary. Several times Reilly couldn't putt the ball anywhere worthwhile. Carmen Chinery - The plane is expected to be added to the six-game IR tomorrow. ??In my opinion, the score severely flatters the Eskimos. CFL on TSN- .@andrewharris33 set the bar higher for running backs. ??I - for impressive ??C'an't forget mentioning the special Teams - locked in..as usual. ??Bombers have a winner in Thorpe... ??YAC yards all night long ??Onlly Ten yards - Bomber offence only had 10 yards more than 5 FOOTBALL FIELDS! ??Bombers - Only 2 punts! ??18 penalties total - split between both teams ??It's time people realize we have a Quarterback! ??Bombers had a lot of 'un-picks' last night.

This is more in my line of thinking. 2 defenders deep, Walker was deeper. He has to hold that position and make the tackle. It was a jump ball, it's fairly tough to make a play when you're the smaller defender as was Carmichael. As Davis Sanchez points out, it would be better to play the ball on the way down when you're smaller...to knock the ball out of the receivers hands, not try and jump when you have the inferior height. You still have to give credit to the receivers, they make the plays, as is what happened then. The one in the end zone (jump ball) was BS. luck - that does happen once in a while.
