Bombers @ Lions: Game Day Thread (07/21/17)
Mr Dee replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Travis Lulay is 4-4 vs. the Peg and Matt Nichols is 3-1 against the Lions. Matt Nichols needs 365 yards passing to reach 10,000... Dressler has failed to catch at least one pass only twice in his 140-game career (Jul 4/08 & Aug 31/08) and his current streak is 134 consecutive games with at least one reception. The Bombers have totals of 96 and 91 yards rushing in their two wins this year, just 48 in their loss to Calgary. The Lions are #3 in the CFL at 92 rushing yards per game and that has been a big part of their 3-1 record. In the last three weeks across the CFL, the team with more rushing yards has lost just twice and is 9-2. Jeremiah Johnson leads all players with 20+ attempts with a 6.0 yard average. He needs just 130 yards to reach 2,000 career and is the only CFL player to have a touchdown in every game this year for his team. Bombers are #1 against the run.. From Ed Tait "I think Coach LaPo is the best game planner in the league in my opinion,” said Nichols. He’s the best coordinator I’ve played for up here and he does a good job of getting us ready. We had plays called that could have got us yardage last week and we blew a couple assignments here and there and those things snowball quickly, especially when you’re playing against a good offence that chewed up a lot of clock. The Bomber's OLine was treated to "anything they wanted to eat" at 529 Wellington as a reward for 0 sacks against them.. -
And here are your chants: A-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, A-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, You know how that finishes, don't you?

Actually this is the T-Shirt the Lions are putting out: ..........I may have added the rest....

And you have just over 30 hours to keep thinking that way...

Still practising your stand up routine I see. That's like trying to say you Rider fans don't try to answer Ring Road every bloody day..
-
Just one of many HITS on the QB previously known as Mike Reilly..
-
Duke Williams cannot drop easy one like that or he'll be known as Earl Williams before long. It's not so much Hamilton is winning this game as much as it is Edmonton still on the team bus. I know better to get excited about the Eskimos losing, and what could mean to our standing, so zip ? (Go Cats go) Reilly 6 for 8 on that drive for a 75% rating. But his body must be at 25% capacity after several strong hits on him.. I guess Edmonton DB #34 Peters thinks only grabbing and not pushing a CFL official is worth a suspension. He should have been ejected..no excuses. Reilly is getting the ball away but he must have been hit a half dozen times in that half. And I mean hit. Brandon Banks looks insolvent.. Did any body pick Hamilton to win? Anybody? On to the Second Half!

The Ticats averaged just 208 yards through their first two games. Six of the last seven meetings between Hamilton and Edmonton have gone down to the last three minutes with 13 lead changes. All six of those games had final results decided by fewer than eight points.

Regular Season - Bomber News, Developments & Speculation
Mr Dee replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The CFL is in fine shape today: TORONTO — The Canadian Football League (CFL) announced today: Toronto Argonauts linebacker Marcus Ball was fined for an inappropriate gesture in the game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Thursday. Winnipeg Blue Bombers offensive lineman Matthias Goossen was fined for an unnecessary hit to a vulnerable player (Jeffrey Finley) in the game against the Toronto Argonauts. Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive tackle Cory Johnson was fined for a high hit on Toronto Argonauts quarterback Ricky Ray. Calgary Stampeders running back Jerome Messam was fined for grabbing Montreal Alouettes linebacker Chip Cox’s facemask in a reckless and unsafe manner. Ottawa REDBLACKS defensive lineman Avery Ellis was fined for a high hit on Edmonton Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly. As per league policy, the amount of the player fines was not disclosed. I guess we all knew that fine was coming for Goosen and Johnson. Meh, it was worth it.. -
They were able to get the ball to Moore because Lulay is smart, and if the water's there, go to the well. He's also a scrambler. I presume the Bombers know this and will react accordingly. No doubt the Lions will be coming on to attack our patched D, but there is no evidence to show that they will succeed. Pocketize Lulay and the hits will come. And if the hits come, so will the mistakes. It's all about going for the ball when Lulay throws it up there and there is hardly a group out there that is better than the Bomber Squadron. Let the games begin..

I don't know Ottawa. You needed 4 turnovers, another on downs, a Jekyll and Hyde-Durant, and an uncalled OPI on the last series to beat Montreal?
-
.......NIK LEWIS 1000 CATCHES! Bravo NIK - that's quite an accomplishment!

You read that wrong. Nobody cares if a H. Coach closes a practice. It seems it's being done more and more. Its usually not even paid attention to..unless the H Coach makes an issue of it. Now, let's see, who's made an issue of it this year? ??? Hmm -
Bubble thoughts by SJ Green... "LOFFLER!...LOFFLER!...LOFFLER!

Brandon Rutley starts in the backfield for Montreal in place of Sutton. And, DB Jonathon Mincy returns.. “Our biggest issue is turnovers,” explained HC Rick Campbell. “We need to create more and give up less. NUMBERS 2 – Sacks allowed by the Alouettes, the fewest in the league. 3 – Wins in four career starts against Montreal for Ottawa quarterback Trevor Harris. 5 – Catches needed by Alouettes receiver Nik Lewis to reach 1,000 on his career — a mark only reached by three players in league history. 123 — Points allowed by the REDBLACKS, the most in the CFL. GAME DAY NOTES Week 4 saw only 7 challenges - the lowest amount in any week this season. • This season, the average of challenges per game is 2.00. Last year’s average was 2.22. • BC has challenged the most this season with six; however, Hamilton has not challenged a single play so far this season. • Ottawa owns the best success rate at .750 while Montreal has the worst at .333. • Of the 32 challenges this season, 18 have been overturned (56%). • Of the 24 penalty-related challenges this year 10 have been for defensive pass interference and nine for illegal contact. Jackson’s 339 return yards in a single game ranks him fourth all-time only trailing: Larry Taylor (428), Bashir Levingston (345) and Marcus Thigpen (340). This season there have been 17 ‘Big Play’ kick returns (30-yard punt/FGM return and 40+ yard kick returns). Ottawa, Saskatchewan, Toronto and Winnipeg share the lead with three each. BC and Hamilton have not registered a ‘Big Play’ in the kick return game. Tonight? Montreal’s Nik Lewis continues to inch closer to notching his 1,000th Following his three receptions versus Calgary, he now only needs five more catches to become the fourth player in CFL history with 1,000. Ricky Ray is the lone quarterback this season to pass for 300+ yards in each game. His passing yards totals are 506, 323, 366 and 330. 11 games this year have been decided by eight points or less. **Games longer this year?…NOPE - The average game time has dropped by two minutes (2:49) and averages 155 plays per game. Week 4 saw the lowest amount of penalties per game at 15.5. A team that allows a sack during a drive have still not scored a touchdown. There have been 63 drives that a team has allowed a sack, and yet none have scored a touchdown on that drive. SACKS APPEAL? When a team does not allow a sack, they have scored a touchdown 19% of their drives (1 in 5.3 possessions).

Absurd. Such an apropos word choice for that guy. Yes Chris, most Coaches believe the only way to beat the Riders is by spying on practices... When I thought about his statement, I came upon the belief that this is yet another deflection by Chris Jones. As in "Look at what my right hand is doing" and not look at what I'm doing... ?Prying eyes, they're watching you, they see your every move...? -
Ron Lancaster - “That’s OK. I really believe the referees make far fewer mistakes in a game than either team.” Stuff happens.

Thank you Atomic. There have been cases, close cases, where the QB of record got credit for the victory, where probably he shouldn't have. I just wanted to check what would happen in this latest case. Of course, it's only right that Lulay gets credit for the V, but with the CFL, you never know. In the response that I received, it's clear that such stats are not closely monitored, only in extreme cases. This was definitely one of those cases. Who knew?

I'm so glad Hall has addressed this as far as the defence goes. Part of the defender's job is to not only track the player, but also, THE BALL. What is the use of being in good position only to have the defender stand there as the receiver goes up for the ball..uncontested? Many catches, on long throws, shouldn't even be caught, but rather knocked down or intercepted. How many times have you seen the ball just up there for grabs, but the only man making a play on the ball is the receiver. Drives me nuts. Learn to play the man, and look for the damned ball.
