It's amazing that a team playing in the NHL could be so disorganized in their defensive structure. I'm not completely sure who is the mastermind behind their system, but it is an utter failure. Scramble defence is not a defence. Now, in the Jet's defence, well actually, there is no defence of the Jets defence, so....big changes have to be made, or it will be more of the same. And this team has too many good pieces to stay the course.

Why do fans seem to take it personally when a draft pick doesn't live up to their expectations? Having now read how thoroughly the staff goes through evaluating the combines and film of each and every player in the CIS and then some, you have to expect they have way more knowledge and more 'real' expectations than we fans. Richards cannot be deemed a failure until he fails. So far, due to injuries, he hasn't really had the opportunity. So dump him? I think not. Let somebody beat him out of a position. Then, you can pick on the new guy if he doesn't all-star in his 1st try. -
One of the nuances of the Canadian game, ie. the CFL, is one of the very things that set this game apart, and that is the Canadian ratio. It's taken years to get to the number of NI players each team must carry. It works. It's up to each team to maintain a proper ratio of rookie NIs and proven NIs all under the SMS in place. When teams don't pay attention, you get the recently bad Bomber teams and Rider teams - no depth. Never has the Canadian player been so in demand as in recent years. And people want to change that? Because that's what will happen. Sure, the best players get scooped up, at least for a time, and that will never change, but limiting the number of roster spots doesn't seem to be a good idea in keeping the attraction for playing in the CFL. Football at the college level is thriving right now and producing better players. And you want to limit the opportunities? Doesn't make sense. Our game is fine. More than fine. Leave it alone.

IT IS EASY TO BLAME @CFL BUT THE TRUTH IS IF YOU WANT A "HOME GROWN" CANADIAN QB THE PROCESS MUST BEGIN WELL BEFORE HIS U SPORT CAREER.... U of M Bisons head coach Brian Dobie was convinced Jordan Yantz had a future as a pro quarterback when Blue Bomber GM Kyle Walters gave him a tryout in 2015. “Kyle won't like this, but Jordan Yantz was a great fit somewhere in the CFL,” Dobie said. “(Calgary's) Andrew Buckley is. “His gun was better than most of their guns. He had a stronger arm than Matt Nichols. It's not even close.” Yet Yantz was released without even making an appearance in a pre-season game. Dobie wasn't saying Yantz is better than Nichols, who's since taken over as the Bomber starter. Fabulous job. If we don't hear about problems...he must be doing his job. If the financials keep coming in as positive...he must be doing his job. He doesn't interfere...because that's not his job. All the rest, we don't really know about, and that's probably good. I wouldn't compare him to anybody else's position in the league...because you can't. Each situation is unique. There, mystery solved.

Well, as of Wednesday, the Roughriders had signed nine free agents from other CFL teams — the highest such number in the league. The Toronto Argonauts were next at eight, followed by the Ottawa Redblacks (six), Edmonton Eskimos (five), B.C. Lions (four), Calgary Stampeders (four), Montreal Alouettes (four), Winnipeg Blue Bombers (three) and Hamilton Tiger-Cats (one). B.C. and Calgary each had re-signed or extended the contracts of 15 of its free agents, with Montreal (14), Ottawa (14), Winnipeg (10), Edmonton (seven), Hamilton (six), Toronto (six) and Saskatchewan (three) rounding out the list. Scott Mitchell - It’s absolutely amazing that in 8 years with the Stamps Drew Tate threw 572 passes........Bo Levi Mitchell threw 606 last year alone. Matt Baker - Tony Burnett could be the biggest piece of the puzzle for the Lions. He attended Lions camp in 2014 but there was no way he was cracking the roster. Tracker wasn't being serious. But you're right, they would never trade for him as a NI O-Lineman. That's exactly why he has been working out as a NI receiver. It would figure he'd be a shoe-in now. -

The loss of three core Canadians amongst your depth can be crippling but Hamilton has done a very nice job over the years creating a lot of depth. Keep an eye on: Nic Shortill Toronto Argonauts Key signings: Winston Venable, Jeff Mathews, Johnny Sears Jr., Matt Webster, Jeff Finley, Jeff Fuller, Peter Dyakowski Losses: AJ Jefferson, Kenny Shaw, Dionte Spencer Ottawa Redblacks Key signings: Greg Ellingson, Jerrell Gavins, Nolan MacMillan, AJ Jefferson, Kenny Shaw, Dionte Spencer, Kahlil Bass Losses: Ernest Jackson, Abdul Kanneh, Chris Williams, Kienan Lafrance The Redblacks knocked it out of the park from a business and football perspective. Each player brought in will help alleviate the loss of players Ottawa let go to free agency. Jefferson for Kanneh, Shaw for Jackson, Spencer for Williams and Bass for Munoz. The talent may not be equal amongst those players but neither is the pay cheque and this is a business and that does matter. Montreal Alouettes Key signings: Boris Bede, Nic Boulay, Mike Klassen, Gabe Knapton, Kyries Hebert, Keith Shologan, Jabar Westerman, Don Oramasionwu, Ernest Jackson, Ryan Phillips Losses: Marc-Olivier Brouillette, Dequin Evans, Winston Venable, Alan-Michael Cash (yet to sign) With the new signings, the Alouettes look to make a change to the ratio. Looking to have an all-Canadian interior defensive line they have done a nice job finding quality players to fill those roles. The Alouettes were able to secure the rights of some quality offensive line prospects in December’s neg list draft. There is still likely concern at the lack of CFL experience they have at offensive tackle, so this will be something to key on. -General manager Kavis Reed and head coach Jacques Chapdelaine have already mentioned that the team will be playing with a pair of American offensive tackles next season.....As of right now, Mathu Gibson is the only American tackle on the roster. GM Kavis Reed doesn’t want any player on the #AlsMTL — other than the starting QB — earning more than $150,000. - @HerbZurkowsky1 #CFL Who was the luckiest QB in the CFL last season? Always the negative spin.... And just how well did Edmonton do by the way? -
The question on our D-Line is not simply replacing Shologan with Thomas as they shared that one position. Whomever the Bombers acquire to rotate with Thomas has to, at least, equal the output that was achieved last year. I was never a Shologan fan, but to me, it shouldn't be difficult to do that. The rest of the line? Westerman equals Westerman, Nevis and Cummimngs? Should be pretty close. Okpalaugo? A huge signing. If he plays up to what he is capable of, he'll make the whole line better. That, to me, is the improvement that the Bombers need from the front four. Do we need another Free Agent DLineman? No. They'll do this through the draft. As to losing Bass, he is a good player, but we have two like players at that position, and so we'll move on. Finding that elusive MLB will be the key. Getting the right guy in there will change our defence dramatically in my estimation. I hope we already have that guy on the roster, but I really wouldn't object to a Free Agency acquisition. Maybe someone like Ellsworth. All I know is that we're close to having a much better defence. The secondary is pretty well set, so it's two more guys...

What's hilarious is the fact that you guys already had a bonafide QB to use until the next guy, but you've turned it into a hunt and seek issue with guys like Young. I mean, really? What I can see for POTENTIAL trades for Jones is a worse over-the-barrel Barker-type scenario that will put several smiles/grimaces on your faces as you seek to explain that one... -

Mr Dee replied to Taynted_Fayth's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Yeah, I read that, but it really doesn't make sense. All the receivers that Jones has signed recently, have been on the open market already, and the Riders were the only ones with pen in hand. So, either they trade more valuable receivers, or wait for injuries for teams to knock on their door...either way, is that really a plan? -
I think, for me, I used more 'errrs' per missed tackle on Bass, so I would have to agree with you. The second most errrs? Wild..

I think, in a way, Walter's efforts are being short changed. After a year of a 'close to the SMS' Walters still managed to go into Free Agency with the fewest number of potential players about to leave. In the new CFL, with the new contracts, Walters has managed to tip toe on the sideline the of who to keep and who to just let go. We did lose players, but except for maybe Burnett, they were accounted for. And we surely lost less than many teams, who lost far more in talent. See BC. Now, Buono has done a remarkable job in singing his own and other players to fill a need. Desjardins is proving to be more astute in handling the GM position than many thought, and even Reed is signing to improve. But the moves Walters has made cannot be simply be dismissed as minor. Replacing Shologan alone improves the team. As to re-signing Nichols, that's good. Extending Chungh was important. And the signing of Okpalaugo was an unforseen bonus equivalent to a long TD pass and run. A few look to maneuvering Medlock and Bryant's salaries as a weakness. Why? Re-signing Adams was important and maintaining our Canadian depth signings (Briggs, Hurl, Remple) continues the building of NI talent that we haven't seen in years. And yes, Glenn is the more experienced QB, but what does that matter as an insurance policy-type player? LeFervour will fill that role quite nicely and under LaPolice, may surprise. The team didn't go for the dynamite signings this year, but still, with the Nevis signing, the moves made so far, are sound, and look to be quite good. Each week has seen some new players added (Will Smith, LeFervour) that were unexpected, but may be quite valuable. Free agency can be a crapshoot and going into that week, we fans could be seen as 'anxious'. The nerves are a little more settled now, and maybe now we can realize we do have a CFL ready GM.

We've reached that accord with ??- Denmark. YES! Denmark had 8 TDs in 10 games and averaged over 70 yards per game. That has to be considered a plus!
-
Yes, I agree with you. I missed when he said who he was. I went back and checked, and believe me, I wasn't at all surprised to hear who it was. For LeFervour, it's good to now know who to avoid. For Friesen, congrats, you are already ahead in 2017 for the IOTY award. How many years in a row is that?

Game 60 : 23 Games Left @ Penguins
Mr Dee replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Oftentimes a goalie will stand out and 'rob' the other team. Last night it was Fleury and the 'other' team was the Jets. It was a strong comeback game for the Jets who played how they're capable, physically and speed wise. But Pittsburgh has Crosby and he's enough to win any close games.. -
“Rory is an all-around receiver with good pass-catching ability and he’s a reliable blocker in the run game,” said Stampeders head coach Dave Dickenson. ??Rory Kohlert always gave his best for the Blue and deserves to be remembered as a diehard Bomber Booster. Let's not forget, Rory returned to the Bombers, after being selected by the RedBlacks in the expansion draft, when his contract expired in Feb. '14.
