  1. Don't know who the new running back is, but I like his attitude!
  2. Well, that's the second dumb-ass move so far this season. Barker terminated. 3 weeks before free agency? Who's in charge there? Chris Jones? The Argos must be hiring from within. It's the only thing that makes sense, if I can use that term so loosely. Sounds like another "plan" in the works..out East
  3. Let's not forget, the scouts have all kinds of input on players already in the league. Langford would fall into this category. They believe he's worth a look-see. A look-see doesn't cost much and some of the learning curve has already been dealt worth. And that's just fine with me.
  4. Well, I'm glad you worded it in that exact fashion. Funny how that word, and the Riders kinda fit together. All that money under Jones' hat and he wouldn't steer it towards his starting QB. Yeah, that word fits...
  5. Even Kavis Reed, Kavis Reed for gawd' sake, knows that you have to have a CFL-caliber starting QB. So, he went out and got one, right from under the noses of the team who had him. And now, the only team in the CFL without an experienced starting QB, is the team that let one walk. That's just stupid. So Jones, does one smart thing...like signing Jefferson, and gambles on a starter. Looks like this year won't be much different for Rider fans. Jones's pattern of one-off, one-on, will continue. His GMing abilities will never match his coaching abilities. Good on you.
  6. The Grey Cup drought is all you Rider fans have left to cling on to. After all, you mentioned it twice in one week. Lord help you should we end that drought soon. Then what? You'd have to concentrate on all things Rider.- Hey, I think I understand now. That is all you have.
  7. I doubt it. It's a vital, highly entertaining piece of the CFL game. To 'Americanize' it, would drag the game down to that stupid touchback rule. I mean why even kick off? Just spot it at the 20 and be done with it. Besides, the size of our field changes the whole aspect of kick-off reteurns..to our benefit.
  8. Now that we have the QB situation somewhat sorted out, the Nichols/Adams signings today easily becomes the #1 story so far in the CFL. It's a big story for the Bombers and now they can focus on re-deploying their resources on whom they've figured they need. I had written this ?earlier today before I had to go out. It's still a very big CFL story and puts things back in perspective. The huge gulps you hear are coming from city just West of Winnipeg. The biggest 2nd biggest story, so far, going into 2017, IMO, is the signing of Darian Durant by Kavis Reed. Many now believe the Als have the missing ingredient for a competitive season...for a 4th rounder in 2017, and a conditional pick in 2018. So now, Jones has to parlay those meagre assets to try and get a starter for the Riders. But, wait a minute, didn't he already have a starter in Regina? Yeah, yeah, I know, he's been on the injury list lately. So has Collaros. So has Ray. Burris. Willy. Reilly. Etc. But Jones had his starter, and could still develop somebody else. Does this make this move/non-move by Jones, the biggest flub of the year so far? Yeah, I hear Jones has a plan. Must be a doozy. He now has to convert his plan into reality...and the fans have to have faith. If he scores Franklin, it will be at an enormous cost. If Hervey doesn't play some more with him. Tate? Possible. Still a high cost. Instead, Jones is flirting with getting Duron Carter. To move? Or to play? At a cost. Again. You know what? I like our plan better.
  9. Tait is, and has been, informed. Whether critical or waving flags, he knew what he was talking about. And that's what I want from the media. Don't talk to me about smirks and shorts, tell me you found out why the HC chose to run that play at that time. In other words, be informed, so that I can be informed.
  10. We got DD signed after all..? This does make a specific statement...although I'm not sure exactly what. All's I know is that the boys are in the office working, and the team is being put back together again. 2017 - Going to be A Happy Blue Year.
  11. Common sense tells us that certain things that are overheard should not be shared. Tidbits about the team may be tempting to use, but 1stly should be verified and if you want a good relationship with the team, then it should be ok'd before reporting. It's all about respect. How you choose to present yourself in your job will definitely be reflected in how people treat you in your job. A balance has to be struck between reporting and regurgitating. Wiecek hasn't found that balance yet.
  12. To all Bomber fans especially
  13. The Toronto Argonauts apparently have 14 more days to decide on Drew Willy's fate. Willy is due a 100k bonus to start 2017, but Justin Dunk said it was erroneously reported to be on Jan 1st. The real date is Jan 15th. Jim Barker is still the GM? and it will be up to him, and the staff? to decide how far to take it. I think after the initial angst passes, the Argos and Willy-boy will agree to a re-negotiated contract. Both sides will have to do this for their own interests.
  14. It's the classic - why don't we ever develop our own QBs? - and then advocate getting rid of a guy we're developing. It's really hard to get a guy going, in the CFL game, in a short period of time. You simply cannot have it both ways.
  15. It's nice to see the Grey Cup is still relevant to a large degree.. 2016 avg ??? audiences (?games).. SuperBowl: 8.3M GreyCup: 3.9M StanleyCup: 2.8M WorldSeries: 2.6M EuroCup: 2.4M MLSCup: 1.5M NBAFinal: 1.2M These numbers were supplied by Paulo Senra, CFL's director of communications.
  16. In Case You Missed It... .............................................. .............................................................
  17. If it was me - anything with that title...I'd stay away from.
  18. If you want a pretty good and comprehensive break down of QB Matt Nichols. Just press on the arrows and follow the action..
  19. Well, I don't think you're ranting and raving, but I can't even award you 2 points for your failed "point" attempt.
  20. Well, as near as I can figure it, if the defence and STs hold the opposing offence enough to warrant the opposing team conceding a safety, then that is their reward. Lets go through this together - 2 points is > 1 point BUT is < 3 points which is the reward for a successful FG attempt. Now, why in the name of #screamingbluejeebees would you want to give 3 points for a safety? That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. As a Coach, you have a choice, put in plays to move the ball, concede the safety or put it in your kicker's foot and STs tackles, and your defence. As a fan I've seen it work in every category imaginable, and it's unique and totally CFL. I love it. Take the 2- point safety out of the game? Might as well give automatic 7 points for TDs. You know, to reward the offence...
  21. You're fired! Wow! A soccer player owning up to the ref! "I wasn't fouled" Guardian Sport: Fair play to FC Bocholt player Toni Munoz, who is awarded a penalty but tells the referee he wasn't fouled. Video via @Copa90 Crazy How crazy is this. "Wake Forest investigation reveals radio announcer leaked game plans usat.ly/2hCr8X4 via @usatoday" Odd and Crazy That poor soccer player who couldn't perform...because of cramps...because of field conditions...left over from the Grey Cup. Yeah, right.
  22. You cannot stress enough, the importance of signing good young National players. Justin Warden, John Rush and Brandon Tennant. Welcome back to the fold. The fact that Warden and Tennant were on the practice roster at the end of the season, and now are invited back, is encouraging. John Rush, who attended TC in 2016, is also a welcome addition. The backbone of any CFL roster is the depth of National players. Before Walters, at GM, we didn't seem to appreciate that fact and we suffered depth-wise for years. Last year, we saw how important good depth meant to the overall roster when we suffered so many injuries. These signings may not titilate the average fan, but to me, I say it's a good start to the off season.
