Here's an example: interesting, but... DON’T BE SHOCKED IF… BC - One of the young kids takes over the starting running back position, like 22-year-old J.C. Coleman who’s put in an impressive rookie camp. What the former Virginia Tech star lacks in size (he checked in at 5-foot-6, 187 pounds as a senior) he makes up for in speed and elusiveness. Edmonton - Jacoby Ford earns a starting role heading into the regular season. He’s still gotta make the team, but Ford has the ideal skill-set to replace the speed of the departed Kenny Stafford. Derel Walker and Adarius Bowman are high-volume pass-catchers but Reilly needs his deep threat and Ford fits the bill. Calgary - Jerome Messam doesn’t come out of camp as the Stamps’ feature back. Everyone’s talking about the battle at receiver but Dickenson mentioned there will be competition at that spot, particularly from Tory Harrison as the Stampeders no longer need to deploy a national running back. Saskatchewan - Jonathan Williams starts in the middle of the Riders’ defensive line. Chris Jones said this week he’s bringing Williams in for a look, touting his character and high motor. The 6-foot-2, 282-pound interior lineman fills a need for the Riders, especially following the departure of the retired Tearrius George. Winnipeg - Michael Couture wins a starting job on the O-line. Much like Trent Corney he’ll be given a chance to compete, and many considered him pro-ready coming out of the draft. Hamilton - Jeff Mathews wins the starting quarterback job for the Ticats until Collaros returns. Mathews didn’t end 2015 on a positive note but he was highly-regarded by Austin a year ago and at 24 he’s still got plenty of upside. We’ll find out soon if he’s taken a step forward over the span of an off-season. Toronto - One of the Argos’ big three receivers gets released. As already mentioned, the Boatmen have a ton of depth at the position and several new names knocking on the door. It’s hard to say anyone is safe, especially if Devon Wiley and Da’Rick Rogers put on a show in camp. Ottawa - William Powell isn’t the team’s starting running back to open the season. Powell gave the REDBLACKS consistency at the position for the first time by the end of last season, but Travon Van could be breathing down his neck. Both are capable starters. Montreal - One of Kevin Glenn’s young understudies is either traded or released near the start of camp. Vernon Adams looks like the team’s quarterback of the future in the eyes of Jim Popp, while national Brandon Bridge showed well in his first career start late last season. Where does that leave Rakeem Cato and Tajh Boyd?

Loffler could easily tempt the Bombers to go a National at that position (safety). I was told to watch Loffler by a minor league official here in Kelowna because of the plays he was making. Neither he, nor I, expected the Bombers to get him. He'll get in games, on defence, sooner than later.

I wouldn't mind a highly amplified fly-by - something like this, but more dramatic, and Blue, maybe with a boom at the end.

Here's a day 2 report made to the Winnipeg Jets and Bomber Armchair Coaches by a fellow Bomber fan Cory H..... "Just got home from the bombers rookie camp and their were a few players that definitely stood out to me and also Darren bauming (was sitting with him for a lil bit and was a bit star struck haha) - #77 Alex Vitt: WR drafted 7th round this year's cfl draft and a u of m product. He was taking first team reps the whole camp and made 4 really good catches beating defenders. One of which was an in tight coverage toe sideline catch - #43 Trent Corney: DE drafted 2nd round 2016. Explosive off the line and almost had two sacks and has a really good inside moves - #34 Carlos Anderson: Rb. Honestly looked incredible. I can see why he beat out Paris cotton last year. Unfortunately he got injured in the pre season game against the ticats. Had a brace on but it didn't seem to slow him down. Will definitely be great behind Harris - # 1 Jane Davis : Wr. Had great speed and out ran defensive backs all day long. Made some great catches, including a couple deep bombs. - # 17 Johnny Patrick : DB. Didn't get beat much if at all. Had a couple nice pass deflections and interception. In fact the only one I saw all day. Anyways those are my top 5 I saw and to look out for through the rest of camp. Remember this was rookie camp so we'll have to see on Sunday how they match up against the veterans."

Trent Corney's rookie camp journal - Day 2 "I de-stress by doing push-ups in my room. That’s one of the reasons I gained a lot of weight in high school. I had bad anxiety in high school and started lifting and that’s how I got big. So I was doing sets of 80 push-ups last night in my room. I did five sets of 80 and my last set was 90, just to see how many I could do. My chest is about to tear right now." Just reading that made me tired.

It will be interesting to see what Manase Foketi and Travis Bond can bring to the Oline depth. Bond is 6'6" 330 lbs. while the much smaller (ha) Foketi is also 6'6" and is worth keeping an eye on. As Tait, in his wrap up says - "All of this is to say that the Bombers have finally stockpiled a variety of pieces, both Canadian and American, that could make the offensive line no longer a revolving door of talent." Let's hope so.

Disappointing? Since when have we had a report..of any kind..on the 1st day of rookie camp? Tait featured Carlos Anderson, reported a new RB in camp, mentioned standouts, told us about the two Rifle players, and stated MOS's mission for this camp. He's a pro. If you want juice, look to the Riders forum.

I think we've learned by now that while he did play hard...it wasn't really 'for us'.

Making positive first impressions were: DE Trent Corney: the club’s first pick in the 2016 CFL Draft got to the ball quickly and was dominant in the first one-on-one drills with the O-line. Yes, it’s early, but… RB Tim Flanders: the late addition flashed some speed during the session. Question is, how might the club find room for him or any import back with Andrew Harris expected to start? QB Brian Bennett: the veteran pivots stepped aside to let Bennett and Dominique Davis take most of the reps. Bennett showcased a strong arm. There are powerful reasons to go all import LBs this year. Their names are - Tony Burnett, Kyle Knox, Khalil Bass, Ian Wild, and Moe Leggett. Then there are the newbies - Duron Singleton, Durrell Johnson and Justin Cole. But then there is an equal argument to slot one spot for the National crop of players we have available- with Hurl and the depth behind him in Jesse Briggs, Teague Sherman, Garrett Waggoner, draft picks Shayne Gauthier and Frank Renaud, and John Rush, last year’s Presidents’ Trophy as the top defender in Canadian college ball. Linebackers...the secondary...the D-line...shaping up nicely. The problem will be who to keep, and how/where to keep them.

#50 Kyle Knox, linebacker Has 16 NFL games under his belt, most of them with the New Orleans Saints. He could push for regular work in the defence and is a leading candidate to at least be one of the two designated imports the Bombers have tentatively pegged at the linebacker position. #89 Julian Talley, wide receiver The Bomber receiving corps has undergone an overhaul with the departure of Nick Moore and Clarence Denmark and the arrival of Weston Dressler and Ryan Smith. Talley, who spent time with the New York Giants, will be in the fight for the wide out spot opposite of Darvin Adams. #60 Travis Bond, offensive line A seventh-round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings, Bond will be in the battle for the second import spot the Bombers have designated along their offensive line. #90 Emmanuel Dieke, defensive end The Bombers have some big bodies in camp in an attempt to replace Greg Peach. Dieke is 6-6, 280 pounds and had a stint with the New York Giants after making 25 starts at Georgia Tech. #1 Jace Davis, receiver Another pass catcher who will be in the mix for starting work. Has had NFL looks from Baltimore, Houston and Denver.
