  1. On - Willie, Adams, Simmons, Walker, Nichols, Johnson, Collins Off - Gordon, Veltung, Littlejohn, Turner, T. Thomas, Marve, Griffiths Lots of exciting changes for the Bombers, including Willie, Adams' return, Simmons on the roster…Collins in the lineup. Veltung out sucks though.
  2. Mid up the dle Edmonton at Calgary: Calgary and Edmonton meet on Labour Day for the 34th year in a row and the 45th time in the last 47 years (only the 1973 and 1981 CFL schedules did not have this classic holiday matchup). Since 1949 they have played on Labour Day Weekend 54 times with Edmonton winning 29 of them, Calgary 23, and one tie. - Grant Shaw out (injured)- Sean Whyte in. - There was still no sign of recently acquired American OL Brian Simmons (for the conditional Winnipeg 7th round pick), who is expected to arrive on Saturday ... Canadian DT Eddie Steele continued to work at right guard with the first-team offensive line for the second day in a row Friday. - Dan Federkeil (Stamps) said he'd sit down and view the practice film to evaluate his mobility before making a final decision, with the Coach, about Monday's tilt. - The Stamps have signed 36 year old Ken-Yon Rambo to a contract. A one day pact…to enable him to retire a Stampeder. - The Esks will also have this added motivation: they haven’t beaten the Stamps in 11 games (10 regular season, one playoff) since Nov. 13, 2011. That’s four years of futility against one opponent. - James Franklin will start on Labour Day against the Calgary Stampeders and will likely get another start a week Saturday in the Canadian Football League rematch in Edmonton while veteran QB Mike Reilly gets up to game speed. Mr. Reilly moved well in his first full day of practice since blowing out his left knee in the season opener at the end of June and got a fairly even share of the repetitions with his substitute, Mr. Franklin. Toronto at Hamilton: - Hamilton and Toronto at 6-3 will face off for first and with a win the Tiger-Cats would capture the season series. They start a set of back-to-back games this week, their first since October 2013 when Hamilton swept the pair of contests. It will be their 45th Labour Day Weekend meeting since 1950. The rematch is next Friday night in Toronto, but so much will be based on what plays out on Labour Day. A win by Hamilton gives the Ticats the season-series edge in the event of a tiebreaker. A win by Toronto sets the stage for the tiebreaking differential. - will Hamilton try an onside kick again? - look for Cha Owens to play on Monday. - same with starting L. tackle Bruce Campbell. - R.Ray is back practising.(third-teamer) Coaching Changes: In their first game replacement coaches have gone 26-31 (.456). This week’s change by Saskatchewan is the 9th in-season head coaching change in the CFL since 2006 and the first with more than one in a year since 2008. First Career Game Coaches: For the 30 coaches (like Bob Dyce) who took over with it being their first game as lead man their record has been just 9-21. No first-time head coach has won taking over in mid-season since Don Sutherin in 1994. Roughriders: Are making their 5th mid-season change since 1956. They have won their next game after the coaching change on 3 out of the previous 4 occasions (2011, 1991 & 1978). It is the first time they have installed a first-time coach since 1983. In the previous four years after their changes the Roughriders have gone – 1978: 4-5-1, 1983: 4-6, 1991: 5-6 & 2011: 4-6. And goodbye $1.5 million after the dismissal of both GM and Coach. Player Highlights - Eric Rogers: 9 receiving TDs in his first 11 career games - #2 all-time behind Curtis Mayfield’s 12 in 1994. - Boris Bede: Has made 22 of his first 24 career FG attempts thus far to lead the CFL. - Paul McCallum: Capped an incredible streak of consecutive converts made at 802 missing only from the new 32-yard distance. - Andrew Harris: Leading the CFL in rushing and yards from scrimmage despite playing only 8 games thus far before last night. - Trevor Harris: A 6-3 mark for Toronto and the highest passer rating in the CFL at 112.7; he leads with a 74.4% completion rate. - Zach Collaros: #1 among QBs in Net offence, TD% and Points per drive led. - Emmanuel Davis: Three interception returns for a TD and 153 return yards in total. - Henry Burris: On pace for 5,008 passing yards and now ranks #5 in all-time QB wins as a starter leading Ottawa to a 5-4 record. - Adam Bighill & Deon Lacey: Lead the CFL in tackles with 61 defensive and 12 special teams stops respectively before last night. - Kendial Lawrence: #1 in combined yards with 1,446 and on pace for almost 3,000 yards in 2015. - Rakeem Cato: Stepped in for an injured Jonathan Crompton and as a rookie has led Montreal to a 4-4 mark in 8 starts. Special Teams Units Overall: Eight blocked kicks in 40 games.
  3. I'm actually starting to lean towards that too. Don't be too sure. Winnipeg has the uncanny knack of coming across some of the worst QBs this league has been subjected to. And I wish I was kidding. What do I expect from D. Davis? Certainly nowhere near the QBing that the other DD provides.
  4. I no problem with Thomas getting in the game.
  5. If a QB dresses, then there is always the potential of having to play, regardless of how ready he might be. But having said that, Nichols had next to zero time to learn the playbook and get some familiarity with his receiving corps. So to ask him to step in, baring something unforeseen, really wouldn't be a good plan. Especially when you consider that if he was to go in and look bad, which wouldn't be real surprising, a lot of fans are going to cut him exactly zero slack, and then the first time he makes a bad throw or a bad read during the Banjo Bowl, the average fan in the stands is going to react like the average fan.Nichols is not starting for a reason, we all know that, but that doesn't eliminate the possibility that he gets in for a set or two...depending.And I think you're selling Bomber fans short. Fans are prepared to cut anybody slack when there is something there to look forward to. Brohm? No. Marve?? Nichols? He will be treated just fine.
  6. Why? And who? With Nichols as backup, I could see us having won 1 maybe 2 of the games we did lose. He is that veteran presence that can step in and not literally grow the game away. Way better than what we've had in a long time. Willy, Nichols, new guy at #3 and 4 and finally we can concentrate on other areas.
  7. Did BC win because of what Beck did or didn't do? Or did they win because of the suckiness of Montreal's QBing? John Beck - 14-22 for 114 yards. 2 interceptions ---- Tanner Marsh - 16-30 for 103 yards. 5 interceptions, 1 fumble Andrew Harris 21 carries for 65 yards -------- Tyrell Sutton 7 carries for 88 yards This game showed that, although not possible, it was quite deserving that both teams should have lost. Nobody should have benefited from that performance. Think of poor S. Logan who had a dynamic return game of 246 yards that should have helped any team win...but no, poor QBing can kill you. And where have I seen that before?
  8. Not starting and not playing are two different things.
  9. Listen, I have the name of a good yawn-care specialist if you guys really need it..
  10. Oh, come on, you're not seriously advocating starting a QB who has been here 1 day are you? And blaming O'Shea for that? He's not rewarding him, he has no choice.
  11. So, Marve, on his first evaluation, didn't pass? Unusual.
  12. And Wally has this to say : Buono said he is about to start identifying players the Lions would like to offer contract extensions. *But the manner in which contracts have been negotiated since the league and CFL Players Association last signed a collective agreement means the targeted players are those who are entering their option year in 2016, not players who are about to become free agents after this season. *That means a number of potential free agents, including starting quarterback Travis Lulay, tailback Andrew Harris and receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux, aren’t going to get offers at least until the Lions investigate whether they can extend younger players, like cornerback Ronnie Yell or linemen Alex Bazzie and Mich’eal Brooks for example. “The players who are 2015 free agents have had an increase so I’m going to look at option-year players first,” Buono explained. “I’ll do it a step at a time but the step will be methodical.” Players like Harris and Arceneaux will likely be offered a chance to stay before hitting free agency in February, Buono said. They just won’t come first. *The lions dropped out of the Lemon bidding, however, the Lions will be big bidders if Canadian centre Brett Jones is waived this week by the New York Giants. Jones is a 24-year-old CFL free agent who signed in the NFL after two solid years with Calgary and would represent a significant change for a team playing an American centre and three offensive line imports, as is the case with the Lions. -Vancouver Province
  13. I saw the one hop but that was as much the REC fault as Brohm's it was a much longer throw the WR was wide open and should have come back to the ball but the REC was S L E E P I N G , yes Brohm could have made a better throw but the REC has more than enough time to adjust to the ball IMO, and the more I watch practice the more I think we have a REC problem as much as a QB problem...Brohm actually made some nice throws and looked like the best QB on the field today.. and Brohm did look decent with in his only CFL start before he got hurt so I am hopeful he will be much better than he has been.... Thank you for putting the "one hop throw" into perspective - Friesen wouldn't do that. Of course we have all seen the short hoppers thrown by Brohm, but it would be nice to have some balance in reports from the media, at these practices, that most of us cannot attend. Sooo much negativity. I guess it's just easier to roll that way. Be nice if we were pleasantly surprised...
  14. Around the CFL - You know what can happen this year? A first ever East-to-West crossover. Montreal sits in a position right now to cross over and get the West's 3rd playoff spot position. Since 1996, the first year, the West has "crossed over" 8 times, but never the East. - In inter-divisional play, the East leads 15 wins to 9. - For the 1st time in the CFL, the Labour Day games will feature a pair of battles for 1st place in both divisions - Toronto @ Hamilton and Edmonton @ Calgary. - No first year player is even close to Derel Walker's 3 game total of 31 catches for 472 yards. Only one player (vet) has as many yards in the first 3 games of any season - the Bombers Alfred Jackson -1994. - Walker's pace could net him 1888 yards. The first year record is 1530 yards by Matt Clark. Walker would have to average 118 yards per game to match this. This seems unlikely to me. - Games continue to have more points than last year's 45.5 per game. This year is at 49.9. I want to mention that the Bombers are at least a little bit responsible for this - unfortunately, at the receiving end. - Defensive TDs are at a record pace - 22 in 40 games. Could beat the record of 43 in 2004 by 2 (45) - third down gambles' success rate have dropped from an 84% in 2013 to 67% this year so far. - kickers have now made 85.9% of their attempts of 1 pt. converts, compared to 99.4% last year. - the year-to-date average of penalties per game fell for the 8th straight week. - there were 18 close games last year (within 1-4 points) There are already 18 close games this year - out of 40. Sask is within 3 of the Bombers record of 9 in 2010. - Close games? 63% (25 of 40) have not been settled until the final 3:00 - compared to 47% in 2014.
  15. ?backwards only ,thing same the saying that Isn't
  16. There's probably a good reason why we'll play a particular defence coming up this week for the game against Sask. ....and that good reason is former Rider DC Richie Hall.
  17. Oh I'm with you on that one. Since the trade winds are blowing, why not add a Gale force to the mix? Let's challenge D Davis and Russell on the PR. That way we can cut both Brohm and Marve.
  18. Willy - 107 completions in 156 attempts 68.6% for 1434 yards for a QB rating of 106.6 And these stats with the injuries. I'd say that's damn good.
  19. I'm not as scared of this as I first thought. Could be the aftereffects of the Nichols news.
  20. Peach would have been around all year anyways. He's had a solid season and would rotate nicely if we upgraded.
  21. Nichols...for our quarterback. I' d make that trade 5 time over. Suddenly, in one fell swoop, the mood around here is infinitely better.
  22. Isn't this the very reason we keep bringing in new guys? They are supposed to be better than standing pat with our present roster.
  23. Probably after we lose the LDC.Well, there is the old theory that bringing in a former member of the team you're about to be playing is a good idea...to gain inside knowledge.Sunseri would have good knowledge of who to throw to on the Bomber team. At least, that's the impression I get...he always seems to be throwing to the other team.
  24. 14 for 23 194 yards in 2 1/2 quarters of play. - before injury. Brohm. Vs. Calgary - last Oct. That's 300 yards in a full game. I wonder...
