  1. Pressure is a relative term. We didn't get any sacks on Lulay, in the last game, but we did just enough to throw him off and he was off in his throws. Contain, and pressure Collaros, and we will have done our job. Collaros does better when he roams for time, and finds his receivers.
  2. A contest of wills..as in will they even listen to what each other says? Will Rod be off on a nick-naming tangent while Suitor is telling us about invented conversations he has in his head about what goes on, on the field of play? I always thought they split these two guys up to keep the TV audience from being too dumbed down - now we're going to have to work as hard as the Bombers, to pull this viewing off.
  3. I guess we lasted what? 10 days, without a Marve-Brohm posting. That's pretty good...
  4. *Special thanks to H. Klassen for permission to use this awesome drawing.
  5. Aug. 9 Hamilton - Injuries - Butler 1 game IR, Fantuz and Gable 6 game IR 2015 Meeting #1: (Hamilton 52 at Winnipeg 26) - The key event turning the first meeting of the season was when Winnipeg QB Drew Willy went down after just 12 offensive plays and the end of their third possession. When Willy left the score was 10-7 Hamilton, and within 11:00 of play that had moved to 38-7. HOME Team Notes & Trends - HAMILTON: - Unbeaten at Tim Hortons Field: Since moving into Tim Hortons Field on September 1, 2014 vs Toronto, the Tiger-Cats have played 7 regular season games and gone a perfect 7-0. Here are some updated facts & figures about the THF streak: - The Crowd Effect Updated: Offside-Procedure-Time Count Penalties Hamilton 17, Opponents 28. No game demonstrated this trend better than last week when Toronto was flagged 7 times for offside-procedure calls to Hamilton’s 3. - 20+ Leads: IN 3 of the 7 games at THF, the Ti-Cats have established a 20-point or better lead. - Q4: The real key to the 7 wins has been an overwhelming scoring edge in the 4th Quarter of 57-23 (+34). - Q4: Hamilton has yet to be outscored in any 4th Quarter at Tim Horton’s with 4 shutouts. - Since 2002: The 7-game win streak is their longest at home since an 11-game winning run in 2001-2002. - Defence: Opponents have averaged only 13.0 points in 7 games and made 8 more T/Os than Hamilton. - Opponent Offensive TDs: Hamilton has allowed only 7 opponent offensive TD drives in 7 games at THF. - CFL Record Pace Penalties: Hamilton drew 12 penalties in last week’s game, and are now tied for last with Toronto at 14.60 per game. At that pace, the Ti-Cats would just surpass the CFL’s all-time record for most penalties in a single season. They are on pace to draw 263 penalties in 2015; one more call than Hamilton themselves drew in 2004 at 14.56 per game (262 total). - Creating multiple first down drives: Of the 62 possessions that Hamilton has had thus far, they have created multiple first downs on 31 of them – or exactly half (does not include possessions where they simply take a knee). They are #2 at 29 yards per drive. - Amazing streak: The Ti-Cats lead the CFL in 2nd down conversions at 59.5% including the Edmonton at BC game this week. What is remarkable is that Hamilton has been 50% or better in all 5 games (better than 55% actually). Hamilton went above 50% in only three games all of last year. NO CFL TEAM HAS GONE MORE THAN 5 GAMES IN A ROW SINCE 2011. - Luke Tasker 7 of 7: The 2014 Eastern All-Star returned last week and was targeted 7 times against Toronto. He caught all 7 pases for 73 yards, three of which were key 2nd down conversion catches. Of his 73 yards, 30 came after the catch. - Two-and-outs: In their five games this year, Hamilton has only 15 two-&-outs (3.0 per game) compared to 38 in the first five games last season (7.6 per game). Hamilton has the fewest two-&-outs in the CFL. - Last Week vs Toronto: The Argos outgained Hamilton 431 yards to 279, had 7 more first downs, threw for 389 yards and controlled the ball for 31:52. These are all solid indicators for a win and yet – Hamilton won 34-18. The key was 5-1 turnover advantage, all 5 of which came in the second half. - No interceptions of late: After throwing 3 interceptions on Jul 16/15 vs Montreal, Zach Collaros had none in the last two games and none in his last 58 pass attempts. VISITING Team Notes & Trends - WINNIPEG: Injuries - Moore, Newman, Gibson, Richards - 1 game IR - Drew Willy a Key: Twice this season so far, the Bombers have lost starting QB Drew Willy mid-game. Here are the game scores before and after Willy left the game with the result that when he has been in the game the Bombers have had a 113-102 scoring edge (+11). When he has been sidelined, Winnipeg has been outscored 70-19 (-51). In 2015, with Willy in charge of their offence, the Bombers have averaged 26.3 yards per drive, without him that average drops by 59% to just 15.6 yards per drive. Last week, Willy led them to 389 yards of offence vs BC in only 11 possessions. - Drew Willy #1: The Bombers starting QB held the CFL’s highest passer rating through Week #6 at 113.3. last week, he did not throw an interceptions and completed 17-of-25 passes for 269 yards and 2 TDs. Last week, he rushed for a career-high 72 yards vs BC on just 5 attempts. Of those 5 carries, 4 went for 10+ yards. - Close games: The Bombers have had a series of close games this year, three to be exact settled by 1, 2 and 4 points. At the other end two have been decided by two of the CFL’s three largest margins for 2015 – decisions by 26 and 29 points. - Turnover Ratio: In their three wins Winnipeg has a T/O Ratio of +8, in their three defeats they are -5. Since 2009, they have gone 32-8 (.800) when making less turnovers, and only 8-66 (.108) when do not win the T/O battle. - Darvin Adams: In his last three games, Adams has recorded two of 120+ receiving yards. Last week, he caught just 4 passes but turned that into 127 yards with an effort that earned 62 YAC and a TD. - Paris Cotton: Started off the year with 154 rushing yards on 22 carries in the first two games. Since then in 4 games, he has had only 102 yards on 31 carries for a 3.3 yard average. - Lirim Hajrullahu 3-for-3: Made all three of his FG attempts vs BC last week on the heels of a two-game span where he was successful on only 2-of-5 tries. His three misses in 2015 have all come from 42+yards.His punts shave trapped opponents inside their 20-yard line 13 times thus far in 2015. - Kahlil Bass: Led all CFL defenders with 10 tackles last week vs BC. - Denmark: Clarence Denmark has been held to just 6 catches for 23 yards in the last two games despite 13 targets.
  6. Not original, but.. The Sask Roughriders are in serious danger of losing their team website...they're having trouble stringing 3 W's together.
  7. That would be cool with me...then we could sneak in and grab Lemon while they're busy with HeMan.. Didn't that article yesterday say the Stamps have no interest in Lemon? @SUNMitchell - Edge rusher Shawn Lemon has interest from Blue #Bombers, BC Lions but still waiting on NFL. No serious offer from Stamps, per sources. #CFL

  9. Sat Aug 8 - CFL Notes CFL Pace of games up this year... 2015 Overall: 2:53:29 (2014 to Week #6: 2:56:38) 2015 Week #1-3 Average: 2:56:25 2015 Week #4-6 Average: 2:50:40 (a decrease of over 3% from Weeks #1-3) Penalties Update: After hitting the low mark in Week #4 at 23.0 per game, the weekly average has crept back up to just under 25 calls per game for Weeks #5-6. The cumulative average however still dropped to a season-low of 26.33 per game to date. There were only 9 roughness calls all of last week – the lowest weekly total for that category for any week in the last 3 years. One trend is emerging that is really obvious: that winning clubs are drawing fewer penalties of late. Over the last 3 weeks, winning clubs have drawn 10.7 penalties per game; losing teams are up there at 13.5 – about three extra flags per game. And the key is that those calls turn into field position, lost long gainers, or extended opponent drives very quickly. East-West Update: Week #7 holds two more Inter-Divisional games; the count thus far favours the East 8 wins to 6. The East has not won the season series over the West since 2004. Attendance: Week #6 was by far the season’s best attendance week averaging 29,435 per game – 19% higher than the average crowd across CFL Weeks #1-5. Over the last 9 CFL games, the league-wide average is 27,742 per game. Are you finding it harder to predict games? You're not wrong. Predicting outcomes – 40% for underdogs: Across the 20 games from Week #2 to Week #6, the team with the poorer record heading into the game has won 8 out of the 20 contests (40%). SASKATCHEWAN at TORONTO Two takeaways only: Saskatchewan has only two Takeaways in 2015 made up of just one interception, no fumble recoveries and one opponent T/O on downs. That is a pace for just 6 forced turnovers in 2015, 19 less than the CFL record for fewest forced in one season (Edmonton 2006: 25). -Toronto dominated Hamilton in the stats category including 5 turnovers in the 2nd half..leading to a loss. -Toronto drew 18 penalties in last week’s game, and are now tied for #8 at 14.60 per game. At that pace, the Argos would just surpass the CFL’s all-time record for most penalties in a single season. -Trevor Harris on 1st Down: At one point last week at Hamilton, Harris completed 11 consecutive 1st down passes and ended up 20-for-24 on first down plays for 228 yards. Harris’ first down passer rating is ... 83-of-109, 76.2%, 2 Ints, 9 TD, Rating: 121.5. On second down passes, Harris is 49-of-68 for 552 yards, 2 Ints, 3 TDs and a Rating of 98.4. -Red Zone: The Argos continue to lead the CFL with a Red Zone TD% of 71% cashing a league-high 12 TDs inside the 20 in 17 opportunities. Last week, Toronto went 2-of-4 inside Hamilton’s 20. -When they make “big plays”: In Toronto’s three wins this year they have made 11 long-gainers; in their two defeats they had 4. -Vidal Hazelton: Recorded a career-high 134 receiving yards last week on 10 receptions, a CFL-high for any player in 2015. He surpassed Adarius Bowman’s high mark with 18 targets in the game at Hamilton (Bowman had 16 twice earlier this year). -Young trio: The first-year threesome of Hazelton, Kevin Elliott and Tori Gurley combined for 19 catches and 225 yards last week including 76 YAC yards and two second down conversions each. It was their highest cumulative single-game contribution. TORONTO PROUD There are 12 Argos players from the GTA including: DB Matt Black, DB Eric Black, WR Kevin Bradfield, RB/SB Andre Durie, OL Jeff Keeping, OL Wayne Smith, LB James Yurichuk, DB Jermaine Gabriel, DL Ricky Foley, OL Matt Sewell, WR Natey Adjei and DB Shane Herbert. NEWS & NOTES:  Argonauts running back Brandon Whitaker currently ranks second in the East Division in yards from scrimmage with 453. In the Argonauts last meeting with the Riders, Whitaker compiled 116 combined yards and a touchdown on 14 touches.  Argos DB Devin Smith will celebrate his 25th birthday this Saturday when the Boatmen host the Saskatchewan Roughriders in their home-opener.  In the first two weeks of the season Argos SB Chad Owens had 15 receptions for 187 yards and a touchdown, including eight receptions and 88 yards and touchdown vs. the Roughriders in week 2. Since the Argonauts week 2 overtime thriller, Owens has only 11 receptions for 97 yards over the last three games – an average of 3.6 receptions for 32.3 yards per game.  Through five games, Argonauts QB Trevor Harris has targeted Vidal Hazelton 40 times and connected with him 26 times – completing passes to the rookie at a 65% rate.  Argos kicker Ronnie Pfeffer has hit eight consecutive field goals. The rookie hasn’t missed a field goal attempt since 14:35 in the fourth quarter of the Argonauts week 2 win over Saskatchewan, which was his first career CFL game.  Argos LB Greg Jones has continued to rack up defensive tackles as the weeks go by. Last week vs. Hamilton, Jones notched six defensive tackles to lead the Boatmen. In the Double Blue’s last meeting with the Riders, Jones compiled nine defensive tackles to lead the Argonauts. Still in with a chance: Despite a number of close losses and an Injury List that seen 21 different players spend at least one game there, the Riders remain only one win behind BC for fourth place in the West and three back of Winnipeg. As far as Winnipeg is concerned, the traditional double-header around Labour Day gives them the opportunity with a sweep to get back to within one win of the Blue Bombers. Personally I don't like their chances with their rookie QBs. Mind you, the Bombers don't don't exactly have a stellar recorded, lately, against newbies. -The Riders lead the CFL in a key stat – average gain on first down play at 7.3 yards. -Messam & Allen carries: Messam rushed 19 times in Week #2, but since then over the last four games, he has just 25 rushes in total. He is averaging a remarkable 7.4 yards per carry. Anthony Allen’s carry total has fallen each of the last four weeks from 10, to 7, to 5 and last week to 3 runs for no net gain.
  10. As far as Ottawa receivers are concerned, I'd take Ellingson over Price, Jackson over Price, Sinopoli over Price, and even Paden over Price. So my question is, does that make #7 the most over-Priced player on the team?
  11. CFL game day notes - Montreal at Ottawa: Comparing T/O Ratios: Ottawa has a Turnover Ratio of +1 in 2015 compared to their -24 overall mark in the 2014 season. Scoreless 1st Quarter Streak Over: Last game, the REDBLACKS scored in the 1st Quarter for the first time this year, picking up a touchdown vs Calgary with 0:19 left to go. They have yet to lead at the end of the first quarter but have actually come back to split the four games (2-2) in which they have trailed after 15:00. 17-point lead: Last week, Montreal led 17-0 after one quarter but did not win falling 25-22 as Calgary posted their second big comeback win of the year. The last time Montreal did that was also against Calgary who came back from a 24-0 deficit against the Als after 15:00 on July 20, 2013. Wind Factor: In their visit to Calgary the wind played a major role in the game. Montreal had the wind in the first quarter and built a 17-point edge. Over the game, of the combined 47 points, 43 were scored by the team that had the wind at their backs. Run-oriented offence: In what has been the most pass-happy season in the CFL since 1993 (highest % of total yards via the pass), Montreal has stuck to the run. Their ratio of 42% run to 58% pass is the highest in the CFL. On first downs, their 43% choice to run is #1 in the CFL. Playing it Close: Of the 5 Als games to date, 4 already have been decided by 4 points or less. They had just two all last season. Quick starts: The Alouettes have two “first possession” TD drives already this year matching the most by any team to date. They had just two all last season so they are well ahead of pace. Preview: Edmonton at BC wk.7 Stingy defence: Only Edmonton has allowed fewer offensive TDs and Montreal has yielded only 7 all season thus far. Opponents have just one rush of 20+ yards in 2015 against the Als. In the Red Zone, opponents have converted only 42% of their opportunities. 27 starters only: The Als have started only 27 different players at least once this year, the lowest in the CFL. Need to take advantage: Montreal has created 11 takeaways in 2015 but through 5 games have capitalized for just 14 points on them. Their opponents have 10 takeaways but have cashed them in for 26 points. Coaches’ challenges: Coach Higgins has thrown just two challenge flags this year and been unsuccessful on both tries. Last year, he challenged 5 calls and won 12 of them. Higgins has not thrown a challenge flag in any of the last 3 games. Half-time leads critical: Since 2009 Montreal has gone 54-9 (.867) when leading after 30:00. When they have trailed or been tied at the half they are just 13-37 (.260). Last week was a rare occurrence as they did not win after leading 20-17 at half. No 30-point games: Montreal opponents have been hard pressed to reach 30 points and it has now been 12 straight games with no more than 29. This 21-game run is the longest such streak for Montreal’s defence since 1978. They went a remarkable 33 games in a row without an opponent reaching 30 points then. The Als themselves have not reached the 30-point mark in their last 9 games. ********* The RedBlacks have 3 Williams on their injured list - 2 DL and WR Chris Williams Notable Alouettes on the injured list - Tyrell Sutton, Mike Edem, Bear Woods, Kyries Hiebert, 3 QBs (Crompton, Marsh and LeFevour)
  12. It is a service we do appreciate. Will be noted in the voting later this year...
  13. Nah, you didn't miss much. Other than Lulay's last drive he looked "Brohmish" and Nichols wasn't much better. I don't think either of these QB's have a bright future. The respective OCs for Lulay and Nichols better pull out those plays to the wide side of the field for both those QBs. Lulay and Nichols could barely get the ball over to the sidelines. I' d expect more teams to be looking for this in upcoming games. I know if I were a defensive back, I'd be looking for those very throws from them and salivating for the interception.
  14. Rushing, you say? When it comes to the controversial practice of curtailing parliamentary debate, opposition parties say Conservatives have hit the century mark. On Wednesday, 141 Tory MPs voted to pass a time allocation motion on Bill C-59, a 167-page, omnibus budget implementation bill that also contains unprecedented amendments to retroactively rewrite access to information laws. Time allocation allows the government to limit the length of debate on a bill so that it can be passed at a quicker pace. Opponents of the practice deride it as anti-democratic. Opposition MPs said it was the hundredth time Tories have played such a card since the start of Canada’s 41st Parliament in 2011. The Huffington Post Canada | By Ryan Maloney Posted: 06/10/2015
  15. Some people think a handshake is as good as a contract. Whoops, that's right, Jones doesn't like handshakes. Jones had a contract with Calgary...until he decided he didn't, so he could go to Toronto..in the same position. Paltry fine for it too.
  16. Grant Shaw 6 for 6 - dating back to last year. Grant Shaw 12 for 12 - before last night's game. Grant Shaw 3 for 3 - for the game in BC Grant Shaw - "Sit down, I got this" - Chris Jones.. It's just what you would expect from that guy.
  17. The most surprising element in this game so far? That awesome back flip from 6'2" Manny Arceneaux!
  18. -Over their last 4 games, Edmonton opponents have averaged only 234 net yards and just 7.8 offensive points per game. Mind you those games were Ottawa -twice , Winnipeg without Drew, and Sask with a rookie QB. -Under 10 penalties: Only three clubs have managed to draw less than 10 penalties in a game this season even once – and Edmonton has dominated that area. The Eskimos have had 9 penalties or less THREE times already, with only Calgary and Winnipeg once each under 10. No other CFL club has even one game with under 10 calls. -New record 16 targets: In the last game vs Saskatchewan, Edmonton threw 43 passes, one of which was a “throw away” and thus not assigned as a “TARGET” to a particular player. Of the other 42 passes, a CFL season-high for any player of 16 passes was thrown toward Adarius Bowman. That 16 total “targets” is almost as many as Bowman had in the previous 3 games combined (19). -Matt Nichols has never started a game against BC -Grant Shaw 18 in a row / 9 in a row: Shaw has had a perfect start to 2015 making 12-of-12 field goals. BC -Andrew Harris 117 yards / career-high 24 carries: Harris recorded his ninth career 100-yard rushing game last week with 117 yards on a career-high 24 carries. It was the first time in his CFL career that he has ever gone above 18 rushes. - First possession points: BC leads the CFL with 17 points in their 5 “first possessions” this season. They are one of three clubs to score on their opening drive twice this year and they added a field goal in one other opening possession. - Lulay QB Starts: Lulay’s current two-game losing streak as a starter is the first time in THREE years that BC has lost back-to- back games started by him (Jul 14-20/12). That spans a total of 29 games Lulay has started. BC has not lost 3 in a row with Lulay as the QB starter since July 2011. - 1st Quarter shutouts: BC has blanked the opposition in the first 15:00 in 4 out of 5 games and is +20 in the 1st Quarter in 2015. Over the remaining three Quarters, opponents hold a 72-103 scoring edge (72-103). BC has not allowed any first Quarter points at all in any of the last three games with leads of 7-0, 14-0 and 7-0. - Richie Leone: Along with Boris Bede heading into Week #7, Leone and his fellow rookie have yet to miss a FG attempt in their first 12 career tries each. The CFL Record Book does not cover this aspect (yet) but it is believed to be a record. Leone also leads the CFL in punting average at 50.1 yards and is #2 net at 40.3 yards per kick. - Adam Bighill 39 DT: Bighill leads the CFL in defensive tackles with 39 after picking up a career-high 13 two weeks ago vs Toronto. He is on pace for 140 which would be right around Solomon Elimimian’s record-setting 2014 total of 143. - CFL Game Notes

  20. You may lose context, but generally, I read through all of the posts anyways. One quote is neater (not taking into account using multiquote). As noted with these ^ selections, 2-3 quotes should be plenty to get the gist of what is being said. Otherwise you might actually have to (gasp) manually look back.

  25. According to Gregory Thomas... Federal Director, Canadian Taxpayers Federation

Under Harper's leadership, Conservatives became the first to routinely use personal attacks ads outside an election writ period. Their ads often used quotes deliberately taken out of context. Incidence of attack ads by Harper Conservatives was heavier than by any other government.
