  1. It is possible that their plan @ #4 has been Jordan Yantz all along and that the battle for a QB position has been between Marve and Portis. That's a possibility I guess. It appears that Janz will dress on Friday night. With Willie getting the first half, that leaves little time for the others to battle it out, and virtually no time for Janz. I'm thinking if he doesn't play, then he will either be cut or put on the PR if there's room.Aside from assigning him a different name to throw off the opposing teams, I can see the Bombers following the traditional path and releasing the Canadian QB (Yantz) because...well what's the point, right? But the Bombers and Walters/O'Shea are working a little differently than others we've seen and I can dare to dream.
  2. I just don't see it as a good idea at all. There is no benefit to a canadian qb so why decide on a guy who is likely behind the others in terms of development anyway and not give him reps? What if it turns out he's a terrible qb at this level? Who is behind whom in terms of development though? The guy who has played Canadian football his whole career? Or the 3rd choice amongst our QBs, whose had at least 2 years to learn and develop his game and has not developed? And as to the 2nd part of your question, just how many QBs have we've seen and hoped would turn out?...and they were terrible? Too many to even mention. We're talking about the 4th person development position here, and to me, taking that decision path is no different than keeping Joe QB-Star from Turn-'em-out University who will not play Pro ball at any level.
  3. It is possible that their plan @ #4 has been Jordan Yantz all along and that the battle for a QB position has been between Marve and Portis. Keeping a qb you're not giving reps to? That just seems a dumb idea when trying to develop a player. But that's just the point. If you've decided to make him your 4th QB already, then you have to make a decision on the other 2 QBs..which one to keep.. How? By splitting their reps and seeing how they do. Yantz gets his work in practice and his development, as a CFL-ready QB, may not be as far behind as some think. Is it a dumb idea, or forward thinking? It's a theory.
  4. Boy, you really don't like that guy. That same statement could be made for a number of NI players throughout their careers.

  6. This is in accordance with the policy to "cut on demand" before the official release date. Why wait? You can please some of the people..some of the time, but not one person, most of the time.
  7. Walters is the man paying for our lap dances. Is that why Lapo was recently at practice? So Lapo likes his strippers and lap dances??I swear, if I have to type slower....
  8. So you're telling me that Rod Black spends more than three days prepping for a game? No, no, those three days prepping, were for the year.
  9. Do I blame Walters for taking a chance on acquiring an experienced NI starter for an import DE who was fleeing for the NFL? No. Even if there was a question mark as to his durability? It's an NI Ol. We didn't have any. And the picks? Dylan Ainsworth DL to Sask. and Christophe Normand to Winnipeg.

  11. Fell into our lap? Where does Walters fit in?
  12. Pretty sure he actually did play OL in his younger days. Surely you don't mean the entire OL?
  13. That's what I was going to say also. It's Bauer's interference with the actual football operations that derailed our team...for a long period of time.
  14. That's the second time I've listened to him speak. He's quick and he seems to know what he wants. I like him.I like him even more because of this - Picard on Bryant: He’s not going to get beat. He has quick feet and is strong. He’s a great run blocker and is one of the best in pass protection," said Picard. "When I call a play, he instantly knows what we’re doing. He’s experienced and smart. We’re lucky to have him."
  15. You know, in Hinse-sight, it still was a very good decision. What was? His release.
  16. Yes, I agree. His chicken wing, defensive play calling was fantastic...for the opponents. I was really hoping there was more to him than what we had seen, but no, he was the real thing. And as far as big free agent signings go, that was a farce. I think even Henoc was embarrassed.
  17. You know, in Hinse-sight, it still was a very good decision.
  18. Shea*sms - Ed Tait The Bombers also continue to move pieces around in the secondary, but O’Shea said that is partly because they want to exhaust every opportunity to evaluate what looks to be a deep pool of talent. "Without going over everybody’s defensive system, I’d say most teams in the league like that versatility," said O’Shea. "We believe all through training camp across the CFL defensive backs are taking reps at different positions, just because of your limited roster you’ve got to be able to fix it when something breaks. "We’re trying to put the best group out there together, the one that works well together. If you find a good football player, if you find a guy that you really like what he does and you’re faced with a situation where he is behind Chris Randle, are you just going to release him or are you going to give him an opportunity to make our team in another spot? That’s part of it, too." ************** The Bombers have yet to set up a plan for their quarterbacks yet, but expect both Drew Willy and Brian Brohm to get reps while Robert Marve and Josh Portis battle for the third spot on the depth chart. University of Manitoba Bison product Jordan Yantz was the one pivot who didn’t play last week in Toronto and when asked what his plan for his quarterbacks was Friday, O’Shea said: "We’re not sure yet. We haven’t worked out the rotation yet."
  19. I don't think we have to worry about any trades for "the other Westerman". The staff here have already made it apparent that quality in character is equally as important as quality in action. Unless they believe his brother would be a good check down, he won't be coming here.
  20. Chicago...well done. And Cheveldayoff was there when it started..
  21. Actually, I agree with you. This thread has been wrestled away from the topic at hand and pile driven into oblivion. The thing is…there is already a wrestling thread!!
  22. Jacquie.... To be fair, Hamilton has their own issues with poster BFaloney (Barry, not Bernie) who, on the Ti-Cats fan forum - Austin*Wee*Waa - insisted that he be emailed at the same time as the Ti-Cats announce their cuts, and, that they be made before he had his Open House on Sunday. He insisted that there was not any particular good reason to wait.
  23. Ottawa Citizen on Paul McCallum: Desjardins conceded he had spoken with Paul McCallum, the 45-year-old who was the league’s oldest player until he was released by the B.C. Lions, to gauge the former Rough Rider’s interest in returning to the city where he kicked off his CFL career. According to Desjardins, though, McCallum’s business interests and family considerations in B.C. meant that “right now it’s not a fit.”
  24. More on Greg Peach - from Ken Wiebe - Winnipeg Sun: “Every year, I always look at my game film from the year before. I've made improvements every year and I need to keep doing that,” said Peach, who had a career-high seven sacks and 46 tackles in 17 starts last season. “I need to be better than I was last year. For me personally, this is going to be a big year and I'm really excited. With our coaching staff and personnel, there's going to be a lot of opportunities for me to make plays and I'm setting my goals extremely high for myself.” The additional film study is just another thing Peach tries to do to stay ahead of the pack. “I didn't make it off my athletic ability and I know that, so I have to do everything extra that I can to make the squad and to go out and make plays,” said Peach, a 29-year-old who was born in Vancouver, Washington and played for the Eastern Washington Eagles of the NCAA, setting a single-season record for sacks (18) and adding the career record for sacks (35.5). “I just go back and look for little things, wasted movements and things that can help me play faster and make more plays. That's why you watch film every day, so you can go over and correct what you did the day before. “I've got six months in the off-season, so I might as well go through the 18 games that we had. That's what you have to do, especially as you get older, you have to find things that are going to help you. There's going to be 22, 23-year-old kids that are running 4.6 40s that are going to come in and you've got to separate yourself from them.” “I've played under (Hall) for a couple of years and as a player. I feel very comfortable in his style of defence,” said Peach. “Once you understand the system, you can just fly and play. He has some great schemes that are really going to confuse the (opposition) offence and open up some plays for everyone on defence.”
  25. 1) That's funny TB, I mean you saying you don't want decisions made on your schedule. Good one. 2) As much as I'm somewhat surprised at the release of Tuinei, I find I realize that a Tuinei isn't worth as much as it used to be. 3) I don't think we're going to be at a disadvantage on the DL if the players who are still around (Gibson, Johnson) are there to challenge and give us rotation especially at DE. Westerman and the ever-pressed G. Peach will do just fine as the leaders and the rest will follow nicely.
