First Cut Down Day - list of players released
Mr Dee replied to Jacquie's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I take issue with this statement. Why in the world would that mean we have a serious problem? Overstated. I thought, initially, that all the cuts would be announced at once, but then I realized, that is more what I wanted, not what may be best for the team. Today, Coach O'Shea, put things in perspective when he talked about trying to determine what each level of play each player has, balanced against whatever injuries they may have sustained, and 'debating' what each player brings to the team, and comparing that, to what another player brings, and of course, keeping roster management firmly in mind. The business day was not finished for O'Shea and staff after today's practice…they had decisions to make, and then the unpleasant task of speaking with each player individually to inform them of the hows and whys. It's important to get it right, and if that's the way this staff has determined to do it, then we have to accept that, whether you like it or not. -
First Cut Down Day - list of players released

Patience is not your strong suit. 680 CJOB Sports @CJOBSports 5m5 minutes ago #Bombers will make cuts by 11 p.m. deadline tonight but won't announce till the morning in order to have conversations with the players cut -
Marve has the opportunity, he just isn't stepping up and taking advantage of it. Why does that make us want to move him up the ladder in the QB order?
-
I agree with what you said on this game. This, however was the first example of how bad the new rules could be. Everybody did it wrong this game, the O players, the D players, and the Refs. Let's hope when the Refs review their performance they understand that there is still going to be some come of contact in some situations, such as you mentioned...balls being under-thrown. They should not all be penalties. But this was a perfect example of how to destroy our great game of football.

I'm disappointed at the turn of events for Yantz. I'm also puzzled. Why hang onto him, in TC, and not give him reps? Are they keeping him somewhere? And he'll get his chance? Will the shoe drop for Portis? Can the Bombers afford to release Portis, or have they seen enough? Isn't TC fun?

I can definitely see fans buying tickets anytime in June and then just going to the game - rain be damned, BUT, I also can also see fans waiting, in late October, until they have a better idea of conditions before buying tickets. Where do you think the expression "fair weather fans" came from?

We have very good battles for roster spots at receiver - both Nat. and import - and we don't hear about it. We have very good battles for roster spots at DB - and we don't hear about it. We have very good battles for roster spots at LB, O-Line and DL - and we don't hear about it. But those reports on the number of injured are bang on....and riveting. And the way they hover around the interviews and piece together stories? Well that extraordinary. Bravo writers... Thank goodness we have dedicated MBB fans (gbill etc.) who take their time and share reports with us.
-
Nice logic, but you run the risk of YourFace getting in your face, and starting yet another round of "3 dressed up as a 9"
-
Thanks for doing that legwork. It shows pretty clearly, that things are still very muddled up, behind Drew Willy.
-
What could be better today than actual TC camp reports that aren't Twitter afterthoughts and tagging onto post-practice interviews? So, like everyone says, thanks gbill. It sounds like there are a whole lot of good things finally coming around..regarding injuries and performances. Really makes it hard to see where the next cuts are going to be. AND It's Friday......time for Friday Night Football. Pizza, beer and a whole lotta watching football.

Dave Ritchie served up words in an interview like a Chef's creation in fine restaurant OR like a hasher in a roadside diner. If things were going right, it was fine cuisine, if not, it was GAHBAGE. But you always got the message.

See, that's where your obsession rears up, when you say "fact is". Fact is, he's the #3 QB and will stay #3 until he progresses to the point that the Coaching Staff deems he is capable to be everything a backup QB needs to be. I'd love to see packages specially designed for his skill set and from there if he progresses...good on him. But I have more faith in Brohm as the situation stands. That's my opinion, and in fact, it's the way it is right now.
-
Is he? I didn't watch the game but people who were watching the stream said he was inconsistent. I trust the coaching staff whatever they do will be the right choice. Inconsistent maybe, but he was still more effective than anyone not named Willy. 6.9 yards per play in which he was involved and 14 points scored overall. No matter how you look at it, Marve has been able to move the offense and put points on the board on a consistent basis. It would be absolutely foolish to cut the guy. You remind me of Roadgriller and his fetish for Goltz. BTW I'm not saying Marve is anything like Goltz. He might be inconsistent but he did some things and was more effective than the other back ups so let's not cut the guyyou have a very low bar for what you deem a fetish No, actually, I can see where Logan is going with that statement. Seems to me it's far too early to be gushing about a 3rd stringer at this point.

Say what?

Really, the lack of coverage by these 'football' guys would get them cut from their rosters if this was their pre-season. It's just a day out of the office for them. Their coverage? Waiting until after the practice and then writing a column on those limited words in the interview.
-
No, this one can't be passed off on Wiecek. It may be his column, but those are Marve's words. I don't blame him, but on the other hand, why would we put all our commitment into one player knowing he may up and leave? I suppose we can use him accordingly, and let the chips fall where they may, but we also should keep our options open...the other way.

And yet, June 2nd, he had this to say: Robert Marve wants to play. Ideally, Marve hopes that will be in Winnipeg. But if it's not, Marve has served notice to the Bombers front office he is prepared to take his quarterbacking services elsewhere at the end of the 2015 season. In an off-season during which the Bombers gave their first-string quarterback, Drew Willy, a raise and an extension and their second-string quarterback, Brian Brohm, a new contract, Marve rebuffed similar offers from the Bombers of an extension and served notice he intends to play out his option in 2015 and become a free agent at the end of this season. So what gives? Marve says he just wants to play and if it's not going to be in Winnipeg -- where head coach Mike O'Shea repeated Monday that Marve remains, at least for the moment, the club's third stringer -- then Marve would like to keep open his options of playing somewhere else. "I just want to see what can happen," Marve said Monday following the conclusion of Day 2 of Bombers training camp. "And I hope I can stay here in Bombers nation. I really like Winnipeg and I really like coach (offensive co-ordinator Marcel) Bellefeuille and everything we do on the offence. So I really hope everything works out... "But more than anything else, I want an opportunity. I think that's what everyone's goals are. Whatever you're doing, you want to do it to the best of your capabilities, wherever the best opportunity is. "But right now, I'm focused on helping this team in whatever way I can." http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/football/bombers/what-does-a-guy-have-to-do-305793111.html These sound like something's being said in 2 different ways.

Ah, but there is legitimate concern in our QB situation. Willy, thank goodness, is here and the undisputed #1. IMO, Brohm is here because he is a good option at # 2, but that is all he'll be. We need to develop the next backup QB beginning this year. That is why we see Portis and Marve. That is why we might see only one of them after training camp. Depends how strongly they feel about Yantz at #4. If they're committing to Yantz, then Portis or Marve may go. Maybe that's why Yantz didn't make the trip. The battle is between Portis and NFL dreamer..Marve. In any scenario, the Bombers have got to keep looking at QB talent, and hopefully have been doing so already. I'm not convinced the next developmental QB is here.

Here's some thoughts from Kirk Penton: Marve looked sharp running the hurry-up offence against the Argos. There was a reason for that. “I love it,” Marve said. “We did that a lot at Miami and Purdue. Defences can throw only so much at you. You keep them on the run. And then with a (quarterback) who can kind of run, the defensive line gets tired and they stop rushing.” If Marve is going to play out his option this year, should the Bombers go with Josh Portis as their third-stringer instead? Portis is committed to the Bombers, while Marve has NFL dreams dancing in his head. Both are athletic, but neither is particularly strong from the pocket. Marve is quicker, but Portis isn't too far behind. If they're relatively close in their skill set, should the Bombers go with the guy who plans to stick around and be developed? The Bombers have 84 players on their roster, including eight non-counters. That means they have to cut 11 players to get to the maximum of 65 counters by Sunday's 11 p.m. deadline Of the 34 penalties called Tuesday night, only two were for illegal contact. That's a good sign for the season ahead. It shows players are already getting used to the new rules . Anthony Santella is a pretty good punter and a decent placekicker. His two field goal misses on Tuesday weren't too far off the mark, and he had plenty of leg on his attempts outside the 40. The Bombers should keep in contact with him if Lirim Hajrullahu bolts for the NFL or for another CFL team next February

The reporters do in fact ask about Richards. They did it last night in O'Shea's postgame interview (4:25)... but you won't like his answer http://www.bluebombe...index/id/110947 He clearly says Richardson. Well, if you add a son to Richards then....
-
I'd look closely at Nic Grigsby as a suspect.

Now that the euphoria of watching TB admit he was wrong er..watching the Bombers win, we get to look forward to see who's going to be cut. They have until Sunday, but what's the point of keeping anyone here past their due date? I expect to hear some cuts from the staff today or tomorrow after they've seen the film. To hear O'Shea speak, everybody had a pretty good game and their decisions are tougher. Yeah, right. A win is a win, but we should have beaten Toronto..and we did. Rookies or not. Hamilton will be another matter altogether. What is really good to see/hear is the overall play of the O-Line. Tyler, Goosen, and Chungh. Can you say depth….finally. What I don't like is the question marks that are still there regarding our RBs. No way I want to go through that angst and BS we went though last year. Let's get that friggin Thunder and Lightning game going!

For those of you who want to hear from the coordinators ...

It's not your logins, it's what you set up your original shaw account information ie. Your email address and the password when you set up your original shaw account. Actually I just got in to TSN Go now. I have an email that is linked to shaw that they send my electronic bills to, but that one didn't work. I had to go into the shaw site and setup a XXXXX@shaw.ca email address and used that one to login. If you use shaw for your email already, I'm guessing that one would work, I've just never setup an email address with shaw before. Yes, I was in error in not mentioning the Shaw email account.
