  1. Well, I wouldn't quite phrase it the way you did, but the HC always bears responsibility for his staff and O'Shea probably did explore some avenues with Etcheverry. This I don't know. The Bombers defensive problems notwithstanding, it was still the inability of the Offence to be effective that limited our win total last year. But we're not talking about the rookie HC of the Bombers, we're talking about an experienced HC and his decisions, even now, going forward. And the mammoth task that the Riders have in retaining their long list of FAs and keeping a quality O-Line, and spending within reason in a season where they will have to keep a lot of players happy $$$. And you better hope Mr. Durant isn't antsy about his recent injury, or is healthy to begin with, as your backups are…still backups. As to facts supporting my supposition, I disagree. We have signed or extended a large number of players, and with that, have positioned ourselves well to snag a name, or two, in free agency…big names. Lots of work ahead for both teams, but I like our chances of being overall, a better team, and I see your chances of being an not as strong a team. It's that simple.
  2. Words and phrases that should make you nervous: However - always a qualifying word and apropos in this case…because it is defensive. I'm sure he will back off - no, you're not sure. Hall's defence clearly wasn't working - Clearly, it wasn't the defence that was the problem. he had enough balls to step in and take control - we all know how this particular phrase can lead to more trouble, not less. The riders haven't slipped any where as much as many of you would like to believe - the more that leaks out about the Riders, their signings, their non-signings, and whats lays ahead for this team, the better I like the chance of the Bombers finishing ahead of them.
  3. Not sure, but when Judy calls…we should answer.
  4. ……….Think of this as the anti-quick.
  5. What? When did they move Vancouver, Nashville, Washington, Tampa Bay, Raleigh and Florida, etc. to California? I guess you meant 7 of their next 8 games in California.
  6. I highly doubt that scenario. I expect that even if Kuale makes it to TC, there will be a team requirement to reach a certain level of accountability and performance if we strive to improve overall on defence. We simply can't allow below average play…especially at MLB. And besides, wasn't it part of the interview process to have the candidates give their assessment of players and perhaps, a wish list of who, or what kind of player they want? And then, with this information, O'Shea and Walters…make their choice?
  7. All in all, I find that Jet fans are, on the whole, a very unemotional crowd. A shrug, a que sera sera, whatever will be..will be. That sort of thing. One day can pass into another without the slightest hint of being upset or worried. You know, like a true fan, strong and free. Logic above all. Their motto: What? Me Worry? **A Tongue-In-Cheek submission.
  8. We should trade him...
  9. The competition committee recently approved an increase in negotiation lists from 35 to 45 from Mid-Dec until May 15. After May, the list drops back down to 35. This is to add more short term prospects and possible training camp invitees exclusively on the teams' lists. This is an interesting avenue to look at for the period of time involved and I think it's a good idea. Some names that we are already aware of include: QB Tim Tebow (Montreal), QB Johnny Manziel (Hamilton), WR Josh Gordon (Calgary), QB Vince Young (Montreal), QB Terrelle Pryor (B.C.) and DE Michael Sam (Montreal). http://blogs.canoe.ca/theoutwriters/
  10. BEE-foog-LEE-an And that, my friends, is how you pronouce this all-star's name. It comes from Norwegian ancestry and is very olde. Older then the hills, which, by the way, coincides with the last part of his name, -'lien' means hillside. Personally I think his name is closer in meaning to 'bigfluffyiceman', but I didn't research it that much. Anyways, congrats to the big guy and we can be thankful he doesn't have the Norwegian name…*Eyjafjallajokull. *http://www.thestar.com/news/insight/2010/06/04/whats_in_an_nhl_name_if_its_byfuglien_less_than_meets_the_eye.html

  12. Jan. 5 Demond Washington re-signs Jan. 6 Dom Picard signs. Jan. 7 Tim Cronk signs with the Bombers. Jan. 9 Devin Tyler re-signs with the Bombers. What I want to know is….what the hell were the Bombers doing on Jan. 8th????
  13. I don't see the difference of Benevides stepping out, or being in, in the first place, and having any bearing on Hall's decision to stay in or withdraw. If it was me, I'd secretly be relieved because a big hurdle has been removed. At the same time, it's not as if IHall should feel he was an afterthought, as he has been in the running since day one, and some figure, the leading contender.
  14. Spuds, he's just trying to stay in front of any isolation talk.
  15. These continual talks between the interested parties is really interesting and must be very in-depth. These two guys have a lot of knowledge and whomever we choose will be a win IMO. Their insight, at this time, with our current roster, is important, as Walters is going down south in meetings with our Scouting staff, and he could be going with a wish list with roster suggestions by the "new" coordinator.
  16. Maybe Benevides and Hall will split the position of DC - one being D and one being C? But really, this is quite the unusual situation I would submit. Especially for us. Last year? Empty shelves. This year? Two of the better coordinator coaches in the running for DC. Talk about all of a sudden being rich. And don't take that as an endorsement Of Hall over Mike. In the meantime….over in Sask…..the phone remains quiet….sitting beside the offer sheet for Benevides
  17. Speaking of Walters, he was just on the CJOB Upper Deck show 7pm and they talked how the staff figured it was just the right time to after a player like Picard. They had the money, they had the opportunity, they talked, and Picard figures he is in good shape and is not even thinking of slowing down. He mentioned how they went about trying to re-sign as many players as they could and talked to all the players they wanted back about extensions etc. When it came closer to Jan 1, they tried a couple of contract re-dos. Nick Moore, we heard about, but he mentioned they also re-worked Jake Thomas's contract structure. He virtually repeated what was said about the talks with the new DC…progressing..each day. He was asked about Buck and said how enthused Buck is about sponging up knowledge and learning all aspects of the coaching angle. Things like running his own RB meetings and film reviews. Buck's aim is to move on up, eventually, to an OC position. Of course, that makes sense. Now's the time Walters will be attending more bowl games Tampa and Mobile, and meeting with the US scouts at the same time, discussing the budget and salary cap projections and focusing now on the upcoming Free Agency when he gets back on the 21st or 22nd. He believes they'll have a real clear plan of attack for FA. Walters' CFL history and moving up the ranks of coaching, asst. GMing and now GM was talked about and it's impressive, considering how he worked it, and who he worked for. Seems like a pretty head's up guy.
  18. There is nothing wrong with the career that Labbe-light carved out for himself. Popular and knowledgable, all while being Canadian. Hell, someday he might even sit in the CEO chair at IGF. Nah…that's not possible.
  19. That Jade fellow just won't go away now will he? If that story has any merit, then LaPolice has two big strikes against him…..the insistence of picking Etienne, and the hiring of…Gary Crowton.
  20. Love the name. CRONK. CRONK!!! Have to agree. It's been far too long since we had a Cronk to talk about. It's all about the Cronk. Another quick signing that is keeping the collective fan base's head spinning. And no talk of 195K. Sweet. Sweet Cronk!
  21. The area where those particular dollar savings is meant to be spent is certainly on the O-Line, where Walters has specifically targeted to improve this year. Walters seems intent, one way or another, of acquiring a certified "A" O-Lineman at this particular time and we may have the necessary resources to go after and acquire such a player. The fact we are even dreaming of acquiring Heenan is titillating, so say the very least, but the very fact we are targeting the O-Line for an A upgrade is comforting, both for us and Drew Willy. The spreadsheet of savings and spending regarding the O-Line has had too many debits in the past. Time to fix that.
  22. Then Picard was foolish if he thought he was going to see that bonus money... And I sure hope Wylie knows what he's backing here. Picard is going to have to play like this guy, ……...for that salary...
  23. Huh, look at that, Labbe and speed mentioned in the same sentence...
  24. So, what I've learned is that Washington is replaceable because he's good, but not great, is small, therefore that makes him a dwarf, which makes some people happy, or grumpy because he only signed for one year, but that's secondary, which is where he plays, but he gets picked on, by opposing QBs, and some of the fan base, because he fumbles, although he also causes fumbles, and because he gets penalties because he gets excited, although he does cause excitement whenever he's near the ball, is an 'OK' signing, not a must have, so i must have another look at it, but it's only for one year that he is returning, although not as returner. …………………..Have I got right?
