Montreal Game - Rules and strategic implications
Mr Dee replied to ALuCsRED's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I thought that as soon as a knee is down, the play is called dead. Much like you see when control tower is checking to see whether a knee was down prior to a fumble. As I missed that particularly play did his knee actually touch the turf because if it wasn't, it's a legit play, no? Not quite. Someone has to touch you. It's not an automatic. If you trip and fall and your knee is down you can get back up. The play is only blown dead if the ref feels the player is giving himself up. That's odd, because, in essence, if you're taking a knee, you are giving yourself up. It isn't a stumble, it was a conscious effort to stop, and take a knee. I'd imagine we'd get flagged quite quickly if he was hit on doing so. -
Comparative analysis - How bad is the Bombers OL?
Mr Dee replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
We have to give credit where credit is due, I guess. Seems like Greaves is under appreciated by the everyday layfan. The effects of Bob Wylie will be seen more in the long term, I would venture to say, and the absolute non-panic in the demeanour of our staff must give the boys some sort of lift. For me, Drew Willy, being able to recognize some early reads, really helps the old stat figures as he launches the ball pretty quickly when he has to. We can bemoan the O-Line's performance to a certain degree so far, but man, when you look at the performances of some other lines…..yeesh! And we're by Montreal! Overall, we still have to draw the conclusion that there is a ton of growing and work to do, and to say we're satisfied would be offensive-lying. -
To me, it boils down to our running game. If we game-plan a smart, running-based attack featuring Nic Grigsby and maybe….Paris Cotton, I can see a disruption in the force, and hopefully, tiring the line and therefore, the rush. Time to go back to the running/screen game. The absence of Sherritt certainly wouldn't hurt us.

No to every trade thing you made in your post. No to every thing suggested for Walters. No thing in particular you are pushing for, will work. Notice how when the words no and thing come closer together, they describe more and more about what makes sense in your posts?

Montreal Game - Rules and strategic implications
Mr Dee replied to ALuCsRED's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Agreed, and the very reason that O'Shea has asked for an official explanation as to the call/no call on that particular play. If I were a tackler, I would have held up on that submission. Blow that whistle! -
"if you were expecting head coach Mike O'Shea to call out Washington after the game, you were looking in the wrong place." "We put him back out there because we trust him and he's the guy who's going to get us field position and get us out of jam," said O'Shea. "All he's trying to do is make plays for his team." Wpg Free Press Although I don't expect Wash. to handle punts, I'm sure we'll see him on kickoffs. Regarding Howard…if you listen to O'Shea's interview on the BB site, it sounds as if Howard didn't necessarily have a bad game other than the mental errors on procedure. I believe the Bombers are fully aware of the shatstorm that is called the Edmonton Defence and the whirlwind style that they play. It won't be an easy test, but then neither was Montreal's game style.

I'd be super happy if we got 2 points per game. -
Lock of the Week Resuts 1+2 Week (Week 3 entries)

My own fault. -
Benching players for one mistake, but not all players, just some, as Jacquie points out, is surely going to lead to trouble for them (so sad). And, as iso points out, Chamblin seems to be over coaching. Bad recipe for Sask. Again - so sad. * look at this, iso and Jacquie in the same posting…and no clashing!

……….Special section for aspiring CFL referees One stop shopping for all your football reffing needs, right from rulebooks to flags to striped socks( to match your jerseys). We also have personal products ranging from deodorant (non-offensive kind only) to breath spray (don't want to offend coaches needlessly) And whistles…man have we got whistles. You can blow your brains out. ** For newcomers to this site, don't forget to visit our football advice section entitled "It's Official - We Are Not Loved" Get verification for your blown call (as in whistled - not blown) Get advice on how to handle hot heads - we have all kinds of caps. Learn to to cleverly avoid contact (or not) depending on your mood. Learn how to not look confused (for advanced students only) Not sure of those pesky "article this - section that rules"? No problem - we have an app for that. (who's going to notice under those hoods?) There's also a support group that meets on occasion. The location of the field, where they will meet, will be revealed only on verification of your credentials. So make sure you know home province and which pocket you keep your flag in. PS - don't forget to practice all your hand signals and most importantly your infraction stances. (fracstands for short)
-
…..Throwing the flag on that idea. And like gbill2004 says, it's early and things will be talked over and they will settle down. And like Rich says, reffing is a thankless, poorly paid job. They need to do their best but they still have to do their job. There's not a coach in the league that wants to see so many infractions and I certainly wouldn't want to be the guy who has to explain to Mr. O'Shea why I took needless penalties.

This interview/salute is the latest in TSN's attempt to be all they can be. It's not the first time they've done these interviews..but it should be the last. They are terrible and severely distract from the game. I don't want to see what Trestman is wearing and I'm not really interested in what Trestman is telling folks about the CFL, unless there is an injury, or play is stopped for some reason. I'd way rather know if there is a substitute or a different package of players is brought in, or how the D is lining up. I tuned in to see the game…show me the game. Tell me about the game. I don't even want to see the 2 announcers talking to each other on screen at the beginning of a quarter. What is it I want to see again? The game.
-
If we start the game in the 1st quarter, follow it up nicely with the 2nd and 3rd quarters, we'll get our chance when the 4th quarter comes along.
-
Well Austin is purported to be a master of quarterdecks...or something like that.
-
That's the future considerations in the trade.
-
Exactly. I mean it wasn't as though our defence didn't play a fairly sound game. They had pressure and they had sacks, and you sure as hell couldn't take away anything from the second most important series of the game…where they stopped Montreal..twice, and forced a FG right after Washington's second fumble. That still gave us a chance, and it seemed Willy just willed his way down the field to win us the game.
-
That was an awesome display of using their defence solidly through 4 quarters and keeping a rookie? QB at bay. From last year, you could tell that they were going to be a force and last night was typical. It took a good team effort for us to beat them.
-
It's a conundrum for sure. Woods, for as much as he gets criticized, was just short of being terrific on returns. How much worth do we put into reliability? The price we paid to get Cotton into the lineup was the removal of Woods and his reliability…and it almost cost us. But we do have to figure how to get Cotton into the lineup without disturbing the Blue Force to any extreme. It's nice to have that kind of problem instead of worrying who to plug in because we have to.

One Glorious Night by Ed Tait - Dunigan's record setting game
Mr Dee replied to MOBomberFan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Video of it doesn't exist other than the scant highlights... That's the same as it is in my head. I was at that game and it was electric, and the fans made it even more so…but replaying it in my head only yields…..scant highlights. -
Willy is good, Willy is cool, Willy is confident, hungry and football smart. And best of all…Willy is ours.

"No one knows what it's like To be the bad man To be the sad man Behind blue eyes" These are not the lyrics in the famous Who song…they're not. This note was found in the margin of the Dinwiddie's copy of Montreal's playbook after their opening loss. True story. (Almost true story)
