  1. The differences are as enormous as the differences between the two leagues. If that 10000 estimate comes from the Bombers, then that's the figure the Bombers and Wpg. Transit would have negotiated on to begin with. Obviously, both parties under estimated, due partly to the severity of traffic situations. The City and Wpg. Transit has to share blame in the overall planning of exiting traffic from an obviously flawed traffic flow guesstimate. Winnipeg Transit has experience at providing rides for thousands and thousands of people but this was something no party had experience with. I can tell you that when the Pan-Am Games were held in Winnipeg, there was a gross overestimation as to how many buses had to service every site. Dozens of buses every hour ran empty and the taxpayers paid for that…with little knowledge. The overall success of the games and surrounding benefits didn't deter the games from being a success. Better planning going forward will help, but thus far I've heard no dedicated exits for buses only, and that alone would alleviate some of the problems.
  2. No I'm comparing the business people in charge of these respective pro teams and how they negotiate with the province and city. I'm not sure how the business people on the board would fail to account for the extra costs associated with bus transport and negotiate accordingly. Did they not realize more people would have to take the bus to get to the Bomber games and thus they would have to rent more buses and pay more drivers to accomodate those people? Apparently not, as they came to the province nearly one year later asking for a discount on bus transportation. It doesn't matter. You're comparing two different entities that have no common bond and entirely different issues. Can't be done. And you say the Bomber mgmt. could have foreseen something happening when it had never been tried before? I find that interesting. The sheer volume of traffic and tie-ups? It is only then that the solution to charter more and more buses was brought in…and of course, at the going rate. Why would they have committed to dozens and dozens of buses if they might have gone unused? This year, they are doing what is necessary to negotiate a better deal, something everybody wants.
  3. It all comes back to having to start and build that stadium when they did. Any further delays would have resulted in further expenditure at the old stadium….and now you're talking wasting money. If everybody agrees that a new stadium had to be built, then it was a matter of where and when. We may have short-sighted the location, but I'll tell you right now…the way these politicians work and the process to acquire another location (never mind agree on another location) would have taken years….if at all. But I'll surely agree the money to acquire a proper stadium design and build should have been spent.
  4. Let's face it, a new stadium had to be built. The Feds had to get involved for money…hence the U of M location. The City and the Province profit from the sale of the old stadium site. Bomber/Club get a new stadium funded with taxpayer's $. The question then becomes…so what? Does anybody think there was another way? Another political party might have handled it in a slightly different way…but it would have to have been done..sooner or later.
  5. Easily settled. Eenie, meenie, minie….Moseley
  6. Pretty much says it all. Old boys club extraordinaire. He actually didn't come across all that credible to me in that interview. He makes a lot of assumptions, and guesses. He also made it sound out of the norm that the BOD fired Lyle Bauer. Who else would fire him? Rabb's property management company is also known as one of the worst in Winnipeg...lots of complaints to the Residential Tenancies Board. I'll take that interview as I would any bloody interview on the Adler program….with a grain of salt. Usually, when Adler has a point of view, I probably look to the other side. I don't know Rabb, so I can't really comment on his credibility, although I'd take a very dim view if your statement has validity. I don't know what's going on with the BoD, I just find it hard to believe there is evil lurking around every corner. Naive? Maybe. But it's hard to fault them on this rejection.
  7. Nothing against you, but that in itself, is a sad statement.
  8. To me, what's said about the Etch-man is proof by assertion…if it's repeated enough times, it must be true. That happens a lot on fan boards. Read something somewhere, pass it along, and it is repeated elsewhere, and so on, and so on. Where sometimes there is validity in what is said, it loses something 'in translation'. I'm looking forward to seeing this defence, with our particular group of athletes, as I can't help but think this group, behind these guys, already puts us ahead of last year. Besides, as O'Shea says he's anxious to see what Etch has learned, going forward, and if that isn't a teaser, I don't know what is.

  10. And if you do….be aware of your cycle.
  11. UP - you didn't include this quote from Dr Willett: "Consuming a cup or two of milk or equivalent dairy is fine" - according to Dr. Willett, “The point isn’t that you have to give up dairy,” he says. “But it’s also important for people to know that they don’t have to drink milk to be healthy.” The debate to drink or not drink milk, again, is an individual choice. Do your own research if it concerns you. My preference is to drink milk…I like it. My choice is Organic milk and it deelicious! (Milk is certified as organic if it was produced following organic farming practices. Some of these include obtaining milk from cows given access to pasture as often as possible (some up to 22 hours a day), providing them with organic feed that does not consist of any harmful pesticides, chemicals, fertilizers, or genetically modified ingredients, and removing any cow treated by antibiotics from the herd for an extended period.)
  12. Damned ignorant of Steinauer to cut a player before training camp. He must be at odds with Austin. Fire him.
  13. Whether we like it or not…. The CFL has approved making pass interference subject to video review for the upcoming season. Coaches are now allowed to challenge both called and potential defensive pass interference fouls under certain conditions. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=451630 Other approved changes to promote scoring and improve the flow of the game include: • Allowing quarterbacks for each team to use their own team supplied Wilson footballs, provided they have met the "new ball" quality standard established by the league. • Allowing centres to bob their heads multiple times in an effort to signal timing of the snap of the ball (to be used by visiting teams coping with noise in stadium). • Allowing offences to further dictate the pace of play by no longer requiring the Head Referee to hold the 20 second clock for the defence to substitute.
  14. And collies….but not together, that's too sad.
  15. What the hell else have you been tracking?
  16. Farming in Manitoba is a lot different than farming say, in BC. The climate and the type of bugs is totally different. Mark obviously has a strong understanding of what he has to do to maintain his crops and his living, but his isn't the only way, and that's what folks n here are trying to say. More info: - "BC has emerged as a leader in Organic farming in Canada with the greatest number of organic farms growing both fruit and vegetables." - COABC - "organic farmers use quality compost, cover crops (such as nitrogen-rich alfalfa) and crop rotation to nourish soil naturally, and to allow it to rest and regenerate. Plants grown in healthy soil are better able to feed and protect themselves from pests and disease, which means they won’t require heavy applications of fertilizers and pesticides. The expression, “Feed the soil, not the plant” is a familiar refrain among organic farmers." - COABC It's up to all of us to educate ourselves in what we eat, not to lecture others, but to better understand what goes into our food and to understand why others make other choices….yes, even hippies. What is Organic Farming? http://www.certifiedorganic.bc.ca/aboutorganic/whatis.php
  17. You might not believe this but, originally, the word nice meant….foolish or stupid. So, either way..it applies.
  18. old people have slower reaction times and that makes them dangerous behind the wheel. It's not that they are driving slow (though in high speed traffic situations it's more dangerous to drive slower than it is the posted speed) Old people often have an over inflated self confidence as well "well I've been driving for 50 years I'm a good driver" plus their lowered reaction times they are a menace on the roads. I'm going to fall back on the fact that a good driver is a good driver and a bad one..a bad one. Although you would assume old drivers have slower reaction times, recognizing collision situations, through experience, could mitigate that. You have to bear in mind it's certainly not only old people who have an over inflated self confidence in their ability to handle any bad driving situation that arise. Simple things like hydro-planing causes drivers to over react. I'm not excluding elderly drivers from the menace group but it is not an exclusive club…it certainly has a wide open membership that doesn't have age nor gender bias.
  19. What if it is just the fact that McRath didn't perform well at the mini-camp in Florida? If you don't have faith in Etch…that's fine, but at least have faith in O'Shea who, by his demeanour, is not going to stand by and watch his defence be putrid.
  20. Depressing news for everyone. It affects the possibility that Ottawa may have been pondering Smith with their first pick. Can anything else happen to keep Lavertu away from us?
  21. All drivers who are impaired, in any manner, drunk, stoned, vision-impaired, texting, eating, sleeping, make up, shaving…the list goes on…are exactly that - impaired and endanger everyone else. But as far as the elderly go, (old-man-with-the-hat-syndrome) they are only frustrating, and if they give others road rage, then they themselves become impaired. Let's face it…bad drivers are just that…bad drivers, and they fall into all age categories. Accidents on the road are not accidents, they are collisions, and they happen all the time, and the vast majority of collisions are preventable. Some people are just incapable of driving..impaired or not.
  22. ………….Somebody here mention carrots? ……………………….Somebody here mention pale kids? ……Anybody here say relax?
  23. First of all let me say thank you for the hard efforts you put forward as a farmer. I mean that. I cannot imagine a tougher, more frustrating profession than of being a farmer. And yet it can be rewarding, not necessarily in monetary ways, but in watching the fruits of your effort rise before you. Since I don't know enough about modern day farming to comment properly, I'll leave it to more knowledgable folks like you.
  24. …………..but I will miss Ron..he's got a wicked, dry, sense of humour
