  1. O-LIne jokes are tough, especially if home grown. They have to show good promise and must be developed properly and there's time constraints. I would look into coaching, although everybody seems to be looking for that at this time.
  2. Thanks for doing the homework V and I find that very interesting. When Walters made that comment about using Montreal's model, I immediately reached for the like button. I could never understand our lack of participation in drafting OL prospects and I can't state strong enough how this new strategy will serve us well for the future. It will take awhile, but you have to start sometime.
  3. Did somebody coach you to say that, 'cause I don't know how you can manage to say that with a straight face. Without competent coaching even the best players would struggle to win. Make plays…sure. Win? That takes more. Strong management, good coaching, good players…they all go hand in hand.
  4. And I prefer the "guess what I'm going to do" defence, but not in any or all situations. I would want a basic D supplemented by packages of 'surprises'. If Etcheverry can work within a framework of O'Shea's, and have versatile enough players, then we'll be fine.
  5. Burke will be ready for HC the next time, in Atlantic Canada. They have lots of safety nets there. As for Creehan, a step back, after two years of flailing will do him good.
  6. Did you mean Butler, not Ferri? No. The poster didn't name name the two Canadian starting LBs in his post, so I named two. If he meant Butler, well I consider him a safety first and if he was serious on whiffing on him, then what can I say?
  7. Ha, well, it wouldn't be the first time I got F'd for my expectations. Not to worry. The Kohlert reference you made only illustrates my point. He wasn't on the roster Monday, but Tuesday he was. Roster made better. This was about Free Agency. Who did we target, who did we sign. As for Canadian replacements for Muamba, surely you don't mean Emry and Ferri. So, I guess I don't know who you reference. I'd prefer to say I had realistic expectations where defined targets are achievable. There were pieces out there. We got some, and some we didn't. I certainly didn't expect to hit on all the targets. I'm no Ricky Ray. What I saw, in what we targeted, four or five guys is pretty darned good. You don't agree. C'est la vie.
  8. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that it happens to coincide nicely with Mayor Ford's annual eat-and-drink-open-buffet-wherever-he-goes event.
  9. Mike did specify "Consider who we targeted, who was actually available and what the results were." but that is limited criteria. (I'd give him a C on criteria-specifying) And, i don't see why Randle and Willy cannot be included because it was part of the goal to secure these guys before Free Agency, thereby giving us the advantage. That's as good as Free Agency sniping as it gets. I can kinda see your point, but I still wouldn't want you as a teacher marking my grades.** ** And yes, I'm way past that stage.
  10. I give a C to all the posters who gave a C+ and under. I think expectations were to fix the whole roster by getting everybody we identified as targets more or less. I guess we were supposed to have a) improved our NIs to enable us to carry on for the year, b.) improve all the O-Line with cardboard pieces, c) get Bourke and/or Butler. Some said getting Kohlert didn't count Someone even mentioned we didn't replace our NI starter Muamba. It was all or nothing it seems. Tough crowd.
  11. It's been pointed out that QB Levi Brown is now a FA. (Doublezero on EP) He presently does not appear on the Bomber's roster.
  12. You brought the angst upon yourself. Bourke, we had a .08 chance of landing Bourke, (no coincidence in the number (BAC) as you would have to be drunk to think we had a chance to lure him away) I'm actually impressed we had a shot at Butler with BC (current residence) and Hamilton (where he's from) If you want to hear Walters explain these very topics, I encourage you to listen to the presser. http://www.bluebombers.com/video/index/id/94631
  13. Summary of Walters' presser: - Walters says in his press conference that the O-Line is not a quick fix and that they will follow the Montreal model in drafting one or two O-Line guys a year and develop them slowly. - Our first pick in the draft is 'very valuable' and is not be being considered in any trades. - Doesn't know what Desjardins wants for Glenn indicates to me he hasn't talked about him…yet. - Not concerned about their running back situation, they have their eye on some running backs from their free agent camps. - The term 'augment the roster' through free agency was used and I think that's exactly the path what we followed this time. - The mini camps will filter the best players for the final contracts from the Bombers when they show up at the main camp. - The theme on defence is versatility. Flexible players to fit in. http://www.bluebombers.com/video/index/id/94631
  14. Look, Kyle Walters has a sense of humour. "Our big concern is it's going to be a long layoff when we finish first." -Kyle Walters on his team having a bye in the final week
  15. B Like the addition of Randle, Kohlert, and Newman. They looked smartly at the whole picture before FA and addressed some needs in the roster..without going crazy. Moore is a surprise addition for me, but a welcome one. Never had Butler as a realistic addition, but certainly appreciated the effort. As to the O-Line situation…I think there were only fillers there and we really couldn't improve in the way we have to. (2013 - Mark DeWitt FA signing.) quite the difference?
  16. 7 Free Agent Bombers remaining: 1) Chris Mathews - interest from 4 CFL teams (including Bombers) and 2 NFL teams - Wpg Sun 2) Will Ford - has "entertained offers" from other teams. - Wpg Sun - and now from the Bombers. 3) Jovon Johnson _ 4) Akeem Foster _ 5) Kenny Mainor _ 6) JT Gilmore _ All quiet 7) Dan West _ 8) Chad Simpson _ 9) Andre Douglas_
  17. See what happens when you let the rookie GM play with his lego set…he starts to build a roster.
  18. Are you, by chance, a member of Flickr? (photo sharing)
  19. Paul Wiecek ‏@PaulWiecek 10m Also, the asking price in Ottawa for Kevin Glenn just went down today. Significantly.
  20. I'm hearing a lot of "not me" "not me"
  21. Um, I think it goes…three cheers for Rory.
  22. Wiecek's at it again... Paul Wiecek ‏@PaulWiecek 7m So Kevin Glenn thinks he might be getting traded to WPG, where head coach Mike O'Shea has already annointed Drew Willy the starter. Hmmmm... Had to throw that in, didn't he...
  23. So this is what fans of other teams do at Free Agency…wait and get FA signings. Nice!
  24. I have a gruntled account - and am linked to gruntled athletes. Kevin's diss-gruntled. One angry REDBRO
