It’s not that there’s a huge worry that the two QBs get hurt, though that isn’t completely impossible especially in these conditions. It’s that the roster spot can’t be used on anyone else so they’re playing a man short for no reason.
-
He’s not even a great returner. He is terrible on punt returns. He had a nice preseason and a few games early on, and we’ve been chasing that since. He can be on the roster as a gadget guy and have a few plays designed for him but Bailey provides infinitely more as a pass catcher.
-
I would imagine there’s less than a 1% chance he gets re-signed so I’m not particularly concerned about the potential loss of a first.
-
It will not make a lick of difference.
-
Dumb and bad. The move, I mean. Collaros himself is merely bad.
-
I would like to have access to the wide angle camera for the last few games to see how many receivers are running routes designed to get them the ball while they’re standing still.
-
I think what he’s suggesting is that if it’s a designed QB run and the defence is ready for it, Streveler should just run “better” and “stronger” to get more yards!
-
Some would argue that MBT only slings the ball because of the pathetic running game and defence. He’s a pure volume guy who makes colossal errors as often as he makes a good play. And this is assuming that LaPo takes the training wheels off and actually designs an offence that features pushing the ball downfield and we all know that’s not going to happen regardless of the QB.
-
What do you think Wade Miller’s responsibilities are?
-
Do you consider a win a good performance by the QB regardless of his raw numbers? I mean no disrespect or sarcasm, I’m genuinely curious.
-
It really doesn’t matter how good the rest of your roster is if your QB and OC suck. And either one or the other has been the case for almost all of the past 29 years.
-
I’m sorry but being better than Brian Brohm, Robert Marve and Dan Lefevour isn’t going to win him any awards.
-
I’m not sure what that has to do with the current construction of the roster.
-
The alternative was almost certainly the same poor play and losses it’s just now they’re being sponged up by a QB that isn’t him. And to some, Streveler playing poorly = Nichols is good.
-
I concede that Nichols has started a number of games that the Bombers have won over the past three years. That’s not really something I can deny. The concept that he’s a “winner” due to the quality of his own play is what can be disputed.
-
This is a misconception that requires a longer post to sort out.
-
I feel like we have enough Canadian talent in the OL pipeline that we’re likely set for awhile. We really only need a Hardrick upgrade assuming Bryant has a couple good years left in him. Secondary is the easiest position to find Americans and even still, there are a ton of young talented American DBs on the roster already. Sayles and Rose are close to as good as it gets.
-
I’d be quite mad.
-
I’m not sure that’s true, if we’re being honest.
-
The whole point is that Nichols’ 7-2 wasn’t a sustainable 7-2. And he’s damn lucky he got hurt or you’d be seeing the same results with him and there’s be no chance he gets brought back next season over the mystique of “mayyyybe we were just one Nichols injury away from dominating our way to the cup!!”
-
I am inclined to agree. Frankly, unjustified loyalty to me is O’Shea’s worst quality by a mile. Surgically remove his two festering, malignant co-ordinators (or even just Lapo) and that should make a sizeable difference. Assuming competent QB play.
-
Future wins is more important than past wins. Other than in a specific championship scenario.
-
Then I guess what it comes down to is, do you think with a capable QB that O’Shea has any chance of leading this team to a Grey Cup? If you don’t, you may as well hire the next guy that walks into the office. But if we think this team is a QB away from being a perennial contender, I can’t see how we replace him based on the presumption that we MAY hire the next Bud Grant.
-
The bottom line is we’re never going to agree on this. We will never know how Streveler would have fared against the crap teams Nichols played or how Nichols would have fared over the past six weeks. To me, it’s clear the red flags were there for Nichols as well and he was regressive heavily before he got hurt. You’re free to disagree but you haven’t raised a single point outside of “Nicholz had seven winz!!!!”
-
I think the thing you’re overlooking is that there are a LOT of bad coaches out there. A lot more bad ones than good ones. O’Shea is far from perfect but he’s provided this franchise quite a bit of stability. I generally hate keeping around the “safe” option because that’s often a recipe for constant mediocrity but we’ve seen so many horrible coaches come through here, I think it’s understandable to be gun shy.
