Troy Smith is a 29 year old QB with no arm. When was the last time an undersized college star QB who was a bust in the NFL translated well to the CFL game. Brad Banks, Eric Crouch and Jared Zabransky say hello and goodbye, Troy. What this says for Max Hall, I'm not sure. At least he was a more pro-style QB.
-
I'd sign him. He doesn't fill a pressing need but as others have said he's better than Mainor and whether it matters or not, is a good locker room guy. Couldn't hurt.
-
My mistake. That's even worse, anyway.

Mike stats don't mean anything when you can make a statement like "Buck is better than Goltz." I know I'm convinced. Also, Garrett was never going to play here, is coming off significant knee surgery and looked like the worst of the three backs in TC and pre-season games. He will likely never play in another CFL game for anyone.
-
Fair to a degree, but the difference between a seven year veteran and a player in their second career start should be a little larger to warrant not giving the younger player playing time. Buck wasn't winning games and he wasn't playing well. Goltz hasn't won a game and isn't playing all that well but to say Buck would have won these games is preposterous and does nothing but set the franchise in the wrong direction.
-
Yeah this is pretty preposterous. Goltz may not have the best accuracy in the world but even in limited action, he hit his receivers in the hands on more regularity than Buck did this season and last. There is no excuse for air-mailing receivers the way Buck does with regularity. As far as decision making goes? How often did Goltz sit in the pocket forever and concede a sack? Once? I can't think of more than once and that was the last play of the game. Did he make a few bad reads and lock onto his primary receiver a few times? Of course, yes. But I would argue first of all that it was his second career start and the amount of times he locked onto his primary read was less than Buck's average per game and Buck is a bloody seven year veteran!

I hate to admit it but that was Jovon's best game in years. Perhaps his best ever. I still think he's an absolute bum, but I gotta give the clown credit.
-
Not really, no.

Is it Christmas? Am I dreaming? Dead?

This is a pretty ignorant post. Nicholls is hardly done. Two knee injuries suck but he was very effective for a first and second year QB and it's not like he was effective due to his mobility. I would gladly take him. Burris may be nearly done so I won't disagree with that but I'd still rather have one or two years of him than nothing. Over Goltz? I'm not sure since he doesn't give us any long-term stability but he's still a much better QB than Goltz is now and Pierce ever was. Lefevour is almost certainly worse than Goltz now and I'm not super high on him anyways but just because you haven't heard of him, doesn't make him terrible. Plus, Reilly may be struggling (sort of) in a very poor offense and yes, the jury in the long run may still be out on him but the way that you constantly crap on his current ability and recent play is nothing short of ludicrous cheerleading. I like Mack more than most, but even though he's behind the worst o-line in the league and has far inferior receivers (next to Stamps) and a painfully average RB, his numbers are still better than Buck's and as much as I love Goltz, he is better right now and has much less risk going forward.

Confirmed, Goltz Will Start Friday Night Against Stamps

Goltz does the straightening his tie thing when he scores a TD. -
Maybe so but would you play Knowlton over Desia Dunn when he's healthy? At his price tag, there is zero reason to bring him in as a stopgap for a few weeks until Dunn is healthy because of the temptation to have him keep playing when he wouldn't be the best option down the line. I'd bring him in if we knew for a fact that once Dunn were healthy we would straight up cut him but that's never going to happen. Either way it's moot, apparently we have no interest.
-
I suppose he may have looked bad because of the talent around him but I'd rather not bring in a guy that at least in my eyes was really on a steep decline. Wild didn't look too bad last game and it's not like Knowlton would even be a certain upgrade at this point since he hasn't looked good in a long time and he's not a natural WIL.

Let's also not let the Goltz story overshadow the real news: The promotion of Wesley Pendleton to the active roster. -

However, I can't help but think that even if Goltz plays well and we win that Buck will be leading the troops out to their deaths again once he is healthy. -

Good. -
lol no.

I suppose this is as good a reason to cut Jovon as any. James Patrick is one of the worst players in the league at this point but he's no worse than Jovon.
-
I don't expect these things because the CFL loves big names but they are both absolutely awful so it's not a surprise on that front. I'd rather have Isaac than either of them but it's not worth it with Dunn and Sears younger and better.
-
I don't give a crap that Buck doesn't whine or that he's a nice guy and at this point, I don't think anyone should. He's a bad football player and that's it.

According To Burke, Buck Is The Starter
AKAChip replied to rebusrankin's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Ok so let's hire Don Matthews or maybe Ron Lancaster's ghost? There is certainly a plethora of candidates with extensive CFL head coaching experience out there. -
In order to be inconsistent, you must sometimes be good. Jovon on D is a joke and Jovon on STs is just depressingly pathetic, Straight up, he sucks.
-
I may be (am) biased but I love what I saw from Goltz. He moved the ball and was more poised than I ever remember him being. In any event, he at least proved that even on a day when PIerce was better than usual (lol) Goltz is certainly no worse an option. This was an ugly, ugly game but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Let's make sure Plesius is actually good before we get upset about this.
