You think that he is the only player that might not play? Guess again.
-
Maybe you’d like to suit up under the circumstances? Easy to sit at home and yell at the TV...no risk there. There are indications that there are potential long term adverse effects from the virus...one of those being respiratory damage...fairly significant for a pro athlete.....it isn’t about the low death risk...even though it is still a risk. Some players may have underlying health risks that they aren’t even aware of.
-
Well what happens if the NHL and the PA send the agreement to the players to ratify and 10% vote it down and sat they won’t play?
-
I think the notion that a hub is just that....and all games are played there. The league likely thinks if they have any hope for game attendance they need the eastern teams to have an eastern hub.
-
Just make sure you don’t waste signing bonus money on them.....
-
To all the Braley haters....careful what you wish....look at the problem it was to find a taker...I mean buyer for Mtl.....the last thing the CFL needs right now is to have to run another franchise.
-
So very true.....I guess Braley’s take on his reality of the current situation of the CFL now makes him the enemy. He has a vested interest in the situation.
-
It’s interesting how some hear are sounding like Trump....touting the need to open up the economy. Well look how opening up too quickly and not practicing wearing masks and social distancing is working there. NOT
-
Thank you ! Better yet how many of the FANS dying for the return of football would risk their health and suit up? Honestly....you are now going to classify football players as frontline workers?
-
So what exactly is the plan? Clearly they are a long way from one...especially given there is no working relationship between the CFL and the PA. Next question...for this hypothetical Sept 1st start. How long in advance do you think it would take to logistically set up? I’ll give you a hint...I have been told by CFL personnel that July 1st is a critical target. That doesn’t factor in border issue, provincial and city health regulations, the possible isolation for 14 days of players. And here is the million dollar question? What are the plans when ( not if ) when people start testing positive...if you ever get this organized? People seem to not want to look at this situation from an objective, practical prospective. I get it ....fans want football.
-
Obviously you think wasting money on a venture that will get shutdown within a week or two is a sound business practice. MLB, NHL, and NBA ...even golf are having issues and they are only having informal workouts. Those leagues at least have more financial reserves than a league that is financially treating water.
-
Not sure there in violation of a contract that based on the CBA really might be in legal peril and not binding. They can’t hold a golf tournament and small team workouts without people testing positive how are you ever going to have a football camp. I woman’s pro soccer team got suspended from league play in Florida because of positive tests.
-
I certainly hope they don’t waist a lot of money only to see things only being shutdown. It will be interesting to see how many of the players in the NBA, NHL, and MLB that are making huge $$$ balk and say they aren’t going to show up?
-
Pro teams can’t even get to organized Training Camps and guys are testing positive....how do they think this ever works. Then you have football with a 1 ya LOS...guys huffing and puffing....how sensible is that?
-
Tampa Bay Lighting had to close down their a Phase 2 start up due to multiple players and staff testing positive. The notion that pro sports are going to be able to operate is very suspect. Initiating any start up, and the expense associated with it only to have to shut it down maybe simply a waste of money at this point in time. This has to put up red flags.
-
It was a reply to your poor poor assistant coach post....try and keep up.
-
Why do they get paid spit? You got it “no coaching experience”....and you get what you pay for. I guess that explains why all of a sudden you needed 12 coaches on a staff...lol.
-
Signed contracts are to be submitted and registered within 24 hours of being signed. Unfortunately the practice of teams keeping “ contracts in the drawer “ still exists....Toronto recently got busted for it. Don’t blame the players. Contracts are signed in good faith by players.
-
Well think what you like. Unfortunately you don’t know who I know or what I know about professional football and specifically the CFL. Your original statement said Assistant Coaches, not “rookies”... teams might hire some rookie intern to do grunt work, but if you check coaching rosters they are few and have between.
-
You failed to mention Miller and Walters....you seriously don’t think they are making chump change....and don’t kid yourself there are no assistant coaches making $50,000. If someone wants to pay you $500,000 who is to blame....someone had to sign those contracts and agree to pay those sums. Fans might not be stupid but can you say the same for owners and BoDs that hire Presidents and GMs then?
-
People talk about how replaceable players are.....no different than coaches.....business , all businesses have to live within their means....if you don’t you fail.
-
Welcome to the reality world of business. Galen Weston of Loblaws / Superstore worth billions just cut back the pandemic raise increase as did Amazon. CEOs around the world got bonuses prior to government pandemic handouts. Your others exist on every business on every team, including the executives in the CFL office. REALITY !

The other issue with pay per view is would advertisers continue to buy time knowing that viewership would decline by those not willing to pay to watch games?
