  1. So you are saying that Sask severely lacking in talent runs up the score against Wpg and MOS then ***** slaps Jones before being fired for losing to lowly Sask? Yikes
  2. Historically it seems that teams are more challenged to find offensive minded coaches over defensive ones. Perhaps that might explain why Maas got the nod over Steinhauer.
  3. All true but we are dealing with Lotteries. There perception will dictate the future of any Bomber lotteries.
  4. AGMs 100-150 range.....Murphy is now in the double range of that in his new gig. Teams are getting concerned because things are getting out of whack. Coordinators were in the 125-140 range and now some of getting 200. Mack was in the 325-350 range and it was believed he was the low man in the league. And the story was Walters took a cut to spread more money around in the scouting dept. Winnipeg remains challenged in the competitive coaching salaries. People can no longer cry cheap in the player salaries as the cap is the cap.
  5. The reality is that unlike a lot of cities the Winnipeg sports teams are under a microscope constantly by the media.
  6. I wonder if Lotteries can suspend their 50/50 license over this?
  7. Yes Murphy would have been a rookie GM but with a demonstrated ability to find talent. One of the problems in this league is that at some point all the player personnel people were either getting paid too much and then they mysteriously eve loved into GMs. Not everyone has the skill set to do all facets of a GM job in the CFL. The successful ones realize that and surround themselves with quality staff to fill in the other areas. The problem in business or sports is when the BIG Boss thinks he has all the answers.
  8. Put it in a hat shake it up and it still comes down to a rookie show. Rookie CEO hires Rookie GM hires a Rookie HC. Too much inexperience in too many places all at once.
  9. Sack fumble....ball is out of his hands real fast. You are correct....coaching doesn't make bad players good.
  10. How refreshing might is be if someone looked to the CIS where they actually play 3 down football with 12 players.
  11. LaPo also knew that he couldn't stay out of coaching indefinitely hoping he would get a HC job. So the next best thing was what he got an OC job at home where he is coaching with the guy next up to get fired first.
  12. Part of the challenge LaPo was still hoping for a HC job and Stubler went to work for a better team
  13. I was an excited fan until I saw MOS' staff...I then became a concerned fan.
  14. You are absolutely correct....any HC is only as good as the staff he assembles. The staff and the players are the orchestra the HC is the conductor. As a HC LaPo's staff was brutal. LaPo believed his staff needed to be good teachers and they lacked pro experience. MOS didn't have a network of good experienced coaches that he could access. That will be the big question mark if Maas gets the HC job. Can he access a good staff?
  15. HC Rick Campbell 2014 good coach with brutal talent 2015 Rick Campbell good coach with good players. If Winnipeg doesn't significantly upgrade their talent Vince Lombardi wouldn't make a difference. Good players make good coaches successful bad players simply get good coaches fired.
  16. Perhaps the fact that Maas has played with and been associated with quality QBs has given him insight into identifying them as well. It isn't as if he might be going to a team completely void of talent. Give him the choice between going to Edm or being HC in Wpg where do you think he'd go?
  17. Scouting and PP is Murph's strength so between Murph and a Jones they will find players.
  18. Ultimately this crew will all sink or swim together. It will be cause and effect. Good coaching? Good players? Good management? It won't matter for any of them if this all does come together.
  19. Craig Smith out in Sask....next move is John Murphy in as VP PP.
  20. Hey Holoman then the CFL could institute the BFI award for the team that recycles the most coaches
  21. Players need to play to develop and play at the highest calibre available to them at any given time. The Moose and the AHL are just for that player development. The a Moose have demonstrated the ability to draft and develop solid young talent. Realistically it doesn't necessarily always equate to winning.
  22. Every team that begins the season has the luxury of surprising the other teams with their " new" schemes. The bigger problem is when the opposition then has secured a bank of video to dissect that new scheme. Perhaps a good example was the last year Wpg went to the Cup. They started out on fire and then limped into the Cup. MOS went 5-1 his first year and then the opposition figured them out.
  23. Regardless of age QB durability is always in doubt as is any position playing the high risk game of football. Perhaps Ottawa was in fact extremely lucky to have a QB play 18 games. The bigger issue is depth whether it be at QB or any position. Winnipeg was lacking in securing adequate depth at that spot last season and it was costly.
