Penton: Bombers are "talking to" Lin-J Shell (update: added to PR)
DR. CFL replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
A little early for the revolving door. Maybe 8 games in when the injuries start to take their toll. -
I thought that the mandate of theBombers expanded scouting dept. was to find new players not recycle guys like Saunders who's best days are days gone by.
-
No salary compensation for an injured rookie. The Club is however responsible for medical expenses.
-
LaPo makes top OC $ for being an expert after the fact on TSN. He has turned down OC jobs and still believes he is HC material.
-
Why use a PR spot for a national or anyone who doesn't have the ability to develop into a player? If Yantz has shown athletically he can either play ST or another actual spot then fine but he ain't playing QB in this league.
-
Historically the 3rd guy is a cheap prospect, under contract with some demonstrated potential. Most teams that lose a starter for an extended period of time will actively try and find or recycle an experienced QB. There shouldn't be an expectation that a 3 elevated to the 2 spot is going to be a bonafide replacement right form the get go. That is a hope and not a plan.
-
I'm more concerned about 4 QB s throwing for a combined 160yds passing vs a team that threw for 350 yds passing. Is this an early warning of last years passing production?
-
Why the need to cut Nationals this early on?
-
Resting Neufield? U kidding me that guy has done nothing but rest since he's been here. Wake up!
-
Sadly potential poor planning here. This is a recurring theme of an organization that has become reactive instead of proactive.
-
Baseball has the luxury of 81 home dates so a team that is a poor draw has less an impact on the average. In addition rain outs are rescheduled. The CFL is 9 games, poor weather, a bad schedule or teams that don't draw well seriously impact their average attendance.
-
People need to remember that the Club needs to rent the facility to every dog and pony show out there to suck every nickel possible to try and keep up with the interest owing.

Picard got released in Sask because he had an off season roster bonus due that they didn't want to pay. Likely a similar scenario will happen in Winnipeg next off season.works for the player. He either gets a chunk of cash early that likely secures his job or gets released early to seek employment elsewhere.
-
There is no substitute for experience. People continue to want to pencil in rookies as " potential starters" potential isn't proven. The list of potentials that were flops is endless. Pencer, Swiston et al. You can include Neufield in there as far as I'm concerned he is a band aid and therefore remains unproven "potential". Depth is critical especially in a league that is becoming tapped out on Nationals. Case in point Picard getting recycled for 200k.
-
The lack of depth at the o line has been an on going huge problem. To trade away an element of that depth makes no sense. To say this is due to cap liability indicates that where was the thought process when these other moves were taking place. Perhaps someone might have been wise to have a calculator on their desk.

Bombers Release DE Booker and WR Goard
DR. CFL replied to M.O.A.B.'s topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
There are more off season transactions now with the legalization and roster monitoring of off season mini camps. Players are signed then evaluated in the mini camps and a determination is made as to whether they then survive to main TC. The downside of this is that players cut now are hard pressed to go to another team for TC as rosters are becoming set -
The loss of a versatile player who could play a number of spots. Sorry to see him go.
-
Don't underestimate the value of a frontline long snapper. Case in point when Winnipeg lost Wild for games and struggled to fill the void. Perhaps trades should be evaluated in Nov. not May?

Multiple 2015 CFL Combine Participants Failed Drug Tests
DR. CFL replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Clearly testing hasn't been the deterant that it was prescribed to be. -
Fat Ed has been lining his pockets for years. He got a huge yearly retainer and then got to bill when players filed injury grievances. Since there was no cost to the players why not file a grievance....and let Ed fill his pockets again. Maybe Ed will be named a senator next.

Kurt Goodrich leaves Bomber camp & quits football
DR. CFL replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Too bad he had to waste the time and Club money to get a free trip to Florida. -
The injured list is seriously abused by every team but B.C. It really is a joke and just a legal way of abusing the Cap

Bombers add Jordan Reaves to neg list
DR. CFL replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The best thing Reaves might have going for him is if he qualifies as a non counter at training camp and therefore does not occupy a valuable roster spot. -
I expect that the season will start on schedule. I expect that who starts or does not start will be predicated on training camp, injuries and the ratio. I expect that people may continue to base predictions on unfounded hopes. As my wise friend often reminded me "hope is not a plan".
