I'll stick up for Wpg 'til I'm blue in the face, but @Atomic is bang on here. We're a pretty damn great city, if you enjoyed enough time here. That doesn't translate to being a top NHL destination in a league with some of North America's finest cities, and a few of the world's. I can see it gradually change over time. We develop into a franchise like Detroit was 20 yrs ago that competes for titles every year. Maybe we become one of the NHL's top 20 or 25 desirable markets. I do think some players, vets in particular, do gravitate to winning, the organization as a whole, and some probably even research the city a little. So, sure there's guys out there that would rather play and make a living in Wpg over Detroit, or Ottawa or Edmonton. Maybe the arena situation with the Isles scares players away. Still.... vast majority will choose the bigger city, with more to offer. And hell, lower taxes in the states cannot hurt those teams. KBF brings up a great point though. To succeed managing a franchise like Wpg you need to be smart with drafting, tread carefully with free agency, just be more patient in general. All areas that Wpg has been excelling at. When the NEW YORK frickin' Rangers issue a letter to fans bracing them for a tear down / rebuild, you know the city alone doesn't define the team. Maybe the most important of all in this... who the heck cares who wants to come here and who doesn't? We've been a top 5 team mostly all year, and one of the youngest. The CBA, at least until we're locked out again, favours small markets more than ever before. Players like Trouba will come and likely go, but we're in year 7 and him, Kane and maybe Bogosian are the only ones I can think of who've wanted out. Scheifele will lead these young guns Laine, Ehlers, Morrissey and Hellebuyck for many years to come.

Yes, I do. Or, rather my workplace does. But I have the greenlight to use at home I'm sure you know already, but if you buy a lot online and could utilize the shipping part of it, then Prime is a no brainer. Amazon Music comes with as well, though I haven't tried it too much yet. The Man in the High Castle I started then forgot about, oh probably 2 yrs ago already. The premise sounded too interesting to pass up. Plus it's a Phillip K **** adaptation, which of course is awesome. (sidenote: check out the movie A Scanner Darkly.) Honestly can't remember enough of the show to give it a good review, from my poor memory, it was very interesting & different just s1 was a little slow. American Gods I just started - 4 ep? in I think. It's like Westworld meets Sin City. I've watched as little Marvel/DC movies as anyone on earth, to me it feels comic-booky, but in a good way. It's a trip, that's for sure. (One minute we're set in today, the next we're in some heaven-like dreamworld talking about the 5 gods) A series to avoid if you're overly bothered by crude language and nudity. The Night Manager is FOR SURE worth a watch.... pretty sure I did a crappy writeup for it a few pages back? Those are the 3 big "original" series to Amazon that jump out. Sneaky Pete has good reviews thus far. Mr.Robot, House, Preacher, 30 Rock are nice add ons for me personally.

Nov.1 it is then. Glad you're on board.

...that's not to say the experience doesn't help. Shane Hnidy is a great example. But to me, he's so good at what he does because he's so polished at the craft. Being a former player didn't make him a great analyst, it just helped get his feet in the door.
-
So, you'd prefer Kyperos, PJ Stock and Millbury? I've seen you say this before & I just honestly disagree completely. Some former players or coaches are great analysts or writers, others are putrid. Plus, this isn't the 70s anymore where fans get their news from the paper and TV. The former player or coach used to take us into parts of the pro sports universe none of us saw glimpses of before, now we're in the locker rooms seconds after games, interviewing coaches mid-game, getting stats we've never heard of, let alone understand. Social media has opened up so many more avenues for people to educate themselves on the game, and folks like Murat and many others are far more hockey educated then some dude with only few yrs of playing exp and no skills talking or writing about it.
-
Murat is a godsend to hockey fans in Wpg. Making my Athletic subscription worth it all by himself.

Buff was great last night. He practically kills a dude to end the 2nd then sings the whole the 3rd in the box. Hilarious. Laine was moving well last night. Just imagine in the next couple years when THAT’S his low end. Kyle College quietly? on pace for 25+ goals and 50 points. What a slick wrister. That could have easily been 7 or 8-0. Gotta think COL is out of our rear view now.
-
Regardless of what team he's on.... Vesalainen coming to Winnipeg next season. No shocker.
-
I'm very intrigued to see how that plays out. I'm a pretty vocal Trouba fan. He's not worth $7M+ elite D money. But damn, he's close. For sure would like him being a Jet into his 30's. Our record this season is 100% the reason Trouba's status isn't talked about daily. My "old man card" is printed, I'm just collecting a few more stamps. #30'sLife

Myers was "day-to-day" for 6 months last season. Though in hindsight, given the family issues, perfectly fair to keep us in the dark IMO.
-
Par for the course. Take a peak at the Jets threads. We're discussing why or why not Mark Scheifele is a superstar. Good problems come along with winning. Dare I say 2018 is shaping up to be Wpg's best in awhile....like, since a GC appearance / Jets return in 2011?
-
The whole notion that this team's lacking star power is pretty laughable. We remember 2011, right? 2012??! Ladd, Little and Wheeler 0.5 as a #1 line... and bupkus behind them? Fair to say most judge star's in today's game by ability to produce offence? Here's last 3 seasons worth of PPG game leaders in the league. Looks like 15 20 pretty elite players.... star players, without a doubt.... superstars? Why the *%&# not? @TrueBlue4ever. I was raised to hate the Riders & I'll die hating the Riders. So for that part, you can go fly a kite. Otherwise.... I don't know, I'm actually kinda with you. Others far more football-savvy than I seem pretty sure our oline won't skip a beat w/o Bond, so I'll trust their judgement. LB in general still seems like a weakness to me, but what a difference one FA can make. I'd be nervous if our play is to insert a new recruit in the middle, rather than someone with CFL exp - at least from camp or 2. Too many guys come up here with unreal gamefilm and never materialize to anything. Other than that... on paper we have to be as good as anyone? Assuming we can stay relatively healthy, but that applies to everyone

The last Ottawa game Jets had a scout + Larry Simmons there. Simmons is a VP & Assistant GM.... by all accounts our main “cap guy”. Could be some fire for all the smoke out there...

Henoc’s reaction to that exact pic...

CAN vs USA in women's hockey tonight.... 9:00 local I believe? Count. Me. In.
-
The biggest reason I'm unworried is his past offseason. Took tons of time off, barely skated. Understandable after the previous 12 months he had. This offseason you have to assume his #1 goal is to get faster. And if when he does, league better look out.
-
Too bad the Leos got Cauchy already. Maybe they're Muamba frontrunners?
-
I'll prob get rightfully roasted for this....but even if we give up a pick for him AND he leaves after a year.... we win a Cup and it's all worth it. It's GC or bust right now.

It'll be interesting to watch, a) as a Toews fan & fan of the local guys and b ) more importantly with CHI being a rival. of course it's all moot if Hawks win lottery, draft Dahlin, win 3 more Cups. It's crossed out, so it can't happen thankfully.
