I should also add that in the 3 seasons for which he could have suited up for the World Cup team, he played all 82 games in every season - 09/10, 10/11 & 11/12. So, logically we can say he gave his all to the Flames. Don't see an argument against that.... Fast forward to Sept2011 - training camp is underway, and Iggy is knocked out of camp day 1 with back spasms. ...geez what a terrible Canadian Iggy was. 34 yrs old, 1100 NHL games played and he couldn't be bothered to help Canada in a tournament no Canadian cares about.

Which years are you referencing? Cgy made the Finals in '03/'04. Lockout the next season. Then they made the playoffs the next 4 seasons. So your gripe is him not participating in 3 possible tourneys from 2009 - 2013? Jarome was 32 - 35 yrs old these seasons. I don't know how many 32 yr olds typically suit up for the World Cup, but I'd guess it isn't too many.

I don't know about the Hawks.... Toews & Kane still in their prime, with Panarin and some other pieces. Crawford should have a few good years left. That D would worry me though. Keith & Seabrook are 33 and 32 - that's not their prime what-so-ever. Prime years was 3-5 years ago for those two. Eventually, even the great teams need change, I wonder if big changes are coming for them in the next 12 months.

seems to me that Canada & USA in particular treat WHC as grooming for "more important" tourneys. So is Comrie the best CDN goalie today - probably not. But maybe HC thinks he's got a chance to be at an Olympic games down the road. Hellebuyck and Copp are going, too. No disrespect to those guys, but US has to have better options, no? 20 year old punk American - try 20 yr old best player / face of the franchise. I get where you're coming from, but if there's anyone who can/should speak out about the Sabres - it's Eichel. And bigger than the game? I mean that's pretty generalized. He IS the biggest part of the Sabres - frankly, I think I'd rather have a guy who owns that & appreciates his status in the org over the guys who couldn't be bothered by what the team does and how they do it. Remember Scheifele's garbage bag day comments re; Maurice? We can debate his message or what he was intending to say - what's undebatable is the weight of Scheifele's message. It was important and much-talked about because 55 is our face of the franchise. If he came out tomorrow and said, "I'd be a lot happier if we found a new coach" - we would find a new coach. That I have no doubt. This kind of thing happens FAR more in other sports, maybe us do-gooder Canadians just need to keep pace with the times. The stars do the run the show. Good thing or bad thing, it varies I'd guess. But I just think that's the reality we live in.
