  1. You're just high.
  2. Those statements are not congruent. The team should be, and always is, making an attempt to both develop our youth while still winning hockey games. I get where you're going - but I really don't see Maurice and the coaches or guys like 55 and 26 being content with this been a development year. Frankly, unless you're going full on tank mode like Buffalo 2 yrs ago, it's just an excuse for losing. Media can talk about what they want, heck some would say half the reason 1290, Freep etc are always talking "draft and develop" is because they have a stake in the game re: the Jets, and they sure as **** aren't about to rail on the team for not being above .500 very often (since 2011). I don't necessarily but that - but it is an interesting thought to ponder given performance on the ice vs. media coverage of the team. The Jets have made the playoffs once in 5 seasons. I don't care how young this team is, playoffs should absolutely be a goal on their radar. Are we Cup contenders? Of course not. But more often than not you aren't going to go from constantly missing the playoffs to competing for a Cup every year. We're at that middle stage in my mind, where you need to get in the dance if not only give Scheifs, Ehlers, Laine, Morrissey, Trouba, Helle etc invaluable playoff experience. The next several weeks leading up to the trade deadline are going to be fascinating. You've got Trouba who could very well be moved. You've got veterans who could be moved for more youth and picks, if our record isn't good and if it is good, we've got a plethora of FWs who could be packaged for a player to help us win now. I feel like in many ways the direction of the team could very well be determined by our record from now until early 2017.
  3. I feel like I'm not the CFL fan I thought I was. I've never heard of DaVaris Daniels. I assumed Loffler would have been a lock, especially as the west nominee.
  4. Trouba should be in there, no question. At 70% of his midseason form, he's still way better than Stuchairotpostmalchiori. Nothing to cry over, I suspect if it's not tonight he's getting in next game for sure. I'm a big fan of riding Helle right now, with the exception of back-to-backs. Then you play both regardless of how they're doing.
  5. Agreed. Some forget how short fans memories are....especially at a game. I think, at worst, he initially gets a few boos. After a few mins and a few hits he'll be getting cheers.
  6. top 4, either side. 22-25 mins a night? He's getting dealt, that's where all signs point. But if not.... you play him and play him often. He's 10x the player Chairot, Melchiori, Postma and Stuart are.
  7. Yep. I'd even go a step further and say this deal increases the chances he's traded by Dec.1 This has felt like the Turris scenario in PHO since the beginning, even moreso now. Turris held out until Nov.22, 2011 and was traded on Dec.17
  8. And some thought he'd have trouble hitting 20 goals this year. He may hit 20 by the All Star break...
  9. What is the non-BS version of what he's trying to say? "It's status quo. We thought the Jets would budge, but apparently Chevy isn't a complete pushover. The document we put out, rife with garbage as it may be, is still the best thing we've got. Does anyone know any stud left handed shooting 24 and under defenseman? If so email koverhardt@gmail.com"
  10. Therein lies the problem. Overhardt somehow thinks he's doing his client a solid by soliciting trade proposals from other GMs. Sorry, Kurt. That's not your job and it shows.
  11. I don't disagree with this assessment. But if this is what he's thinking...maaaaan I don't know if he's going to be happy. Their side has drawn a line in the sand, and these differences aren't easily reconciled. Say Trouba signs for 6 years at a favorable dollar hit. Really, the only thing it changes is that we're immensely better here and now. Long term, he's still a huge question mark when you factor in how committed he'll be, I wonder what it would do to the guys who are in that room right now.
  12. Not a problem. This is the part I'm not as sold on... This isn't about money it's about getting #8 out of Winnipeg. Pete concludes by predicting a long term deal. Hell, I'm all for that and would love to don my Trouba sweater again, he's one of my favourite Jets. I just don't see it. I hope I'm wrong! I think it's a bridge or a deal with another team (or 2).
  13. I think this is the post @The Unknown Poster was referencing. Maybe it's just me, but I don't see much of substance there. Yes....as we approach Dec.1 a resolution of some kind becomes more likely. I just don't know how anyone not named Chevy, Overhardt or Trouba can claim to be in the know on these things. http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Peter-Tessier/How-might-the-Trouba-situation-unfold/161/80220
  14. Personally, I just want to see as many Hellebuyck and Comrie starts as possible between the two teams.
  15. Hmm. I haven't heard any of that personally. Most I know are without long term memory defects and remember Pavelec's career .905 SV%. So what is it with Helle, specifically? And I'm not trying to defend the guy. He hasn't been good this year, well below expectations so far. I thought he'd come out hot after playing with those studs on Team N.A. So there's all that... But to me #'s matter more than random memories I have from the most recent games played. Problem with that line of thinking; you're more likely to remember highs and lows like Laine's goals or a bad goal given up by Hutch. Memories and observations from the couch are nice for a space like this, so long as they aren't shaping the way our scouts, coaches and mgmt feel. Thankfully, I think we're safe there! What I see in Helle > Sensational collegiate career. Win/loss, save%, GAavg it's all there. Great start to his pro career - similar numbers, except in goals against, but hey, our farm club's been a hot mess of late. I think all thing's considered, stopping .920 at the AHL level is pretty unreal for the team we had. (Go check Pav's AHL numbers, while he played with a superior AHL club. I'll wait, no problem). So then last year, we get to see him with the Jets for the first time. Started off great, cooled down after. Still - 26 games played last season and he was the undisputed best goalie. Most wins, only tender with a save% even close to league average. Maybe he's struggling now. After a whopping 3 starts. I'll say it and take the heat- the answer isn't playing him less. It's playing him more. I don't expect them to right away - but eventually you need to establish a #1. Goalies like to develop a routine and consistency and it's hard to do that playing every 2nd night. Lastly - i know, i know used up a week's worth of rants here.... What's the Jets alternative if Helle isn't the short or long term option? If it's me answering, Pavs isn't even in the conversation. He's in his last year of his contract and after 400 games in the NHL - we know what he is.
  16. I have a hard time defending anyone in the fanbase who doesn't see all the good that is Connor Hellebuyck. I ain't in the business in calling out posters, but christ give your head a god dang shake. Helle is easily one of the top 10 < 23 yr old goalies around. You see what Matt Murray did in Pitt last year? What made Freddy Anderson expendable in ANA? How come STL let Elliot go? Ben Bishop is likely to be moved from TB this year... why? But no no no...the Winnipeg Jets can't wait for their future #1 tender to develop. Blasphemy!
  17. Who's sweating more this morning? Trouba or Chevy?
  18. Nnnnnnooo really? How'd I miss that?! My bday's the 13th, too. La La land on the 14th too... Hmm... a new candidate emerges for Jimmy Pop's Trip Bonanza 2017
  19. Semi-unrelated.... But I've got a wackload of Air Miles and am in desperate need of a mid-Wpg winter flight out this prairie town. I'm not solely focusing it on a Jets road game, but think it would be fun. (Jets @ Vegas Whatchamicultis is top of the list for 2018). Do I do the 3rd week of the December - Jets are in town 20th and 22nd. End December travel though....urgh. Or.... Early Feb. Jets @ AVALANCE. Afternoon of Feb.4. Average temps in Colorado that time of year are highs of 8 Celsius and lows of 0. Practically spring time in Wpg.
  20. The popular notion with Copp was that his demotion wasn't so much an indictment of his play, but more so that they wanted to see what his potential may be in a top 6 / more offensive role. That wasn't likely to be available unless trades or injuries occurred. Well, Little is out and a space is open. I was once a big Burmi supporter, but I just don't see much anymore. In theory, Copp would add a lot to the third line and shouldn't have us missing a beat in re: to defensive responsibilities, faceoffs etc. ...I still think Burmi is a prime "throw in" candidate on a potential Trouba trade.
  21. If Little wasn't out, my vote would be for Marko Dano. Versatility, tenacity and plays both ends of the rink. With Little being out, my vote is for Copp as the call up. See above comments on Dano; but he's a C with a nice success rate in the faceoff dot.
  22. If last night taught us anything it's that Joel Armia shouldn't be coming out of that lineup anytime soon. Geez if he was playing with Laine or Connor last night he'd have had 4 or 5 points.
  23. Hey now, at least we're loveable! What was the last Heritage game... Van and Ott? 2 teams just as lousy, arguably with a lot less in the cupboard too - and oh yeah, they've won diddly just like us. At the HC I ran into a couple Oiler clad gents around my age. My go-to is always, "so, you boys in from out of town, or just traders?!". Well these guys were good dudes who happened to have flown in for the weekend. Props! It was pretty funny to hear these guys talk about how much they like our team and city and how they root for Wpg as their #2. I told them that this meant Wpg wasn't truly "back" in the league yet because Edm still likes us, Cgy still likes us etc. We shared some good stories over a beer or two, shared some hatred of the Leafs and some self-deprecating with our own teams. Then of course I was reminded just how lucky these dudes were. They caught the tail end of the Esks dynasty growing up. They had the Oilers Cups during their formative years their teens. Now they've got the most dynamic player in hockey and a fancy new home. Urrrrrgh...how's their baseball team doing, again?
