Rainey re-signed. http://www.tsn.ca/lions-rainey-agree-on-two-year-deal-1.435158

Sign Scheifele long term, for sure. No point in a bridge for him. Based on all we know... solid, ever-improving young player, excellent off the ice & high maturity AND I think he's another guy who genuinely likes it here. Clearly looks to me like he's rounding into a 50-60 point #2 centre AT WORST. All that's worth $5M+/yr for me. Get 'er done. Lock up our post-Ladd-post-Wheeler captain until 2023.
-
I wouldn't move Trouba unless it's one hell of a package coming back. Really, a competent GM should be able to swing a bridge deal or a favourable long term deal. If we're giving up on the kid, it better be because of what they see in him (or don't see in him) as a player/person, not what his agent says he's worth.
-
Quite the contrary. I'm a Chevy supporter, actually. That said, it's what he does/doesn't do at the deadline that will naturally shape my view of the job he's done.
-
Let's see what happens around the deadline first. Great deal tho, IMO.

Excellent news! Any guesses on contract?! I'll take a stab and say 5 yr deal worth $36M.

Correct, Noon ET.

I've been trying for months to find a Republican candidate that at least in some way, shape or form spoke to my ideologies. Well, still trying! The vast majority of the candidates are just (seemingly) so out to lunch. The environment, rights for ALL citizens, gun control, prison reform & non-violent criminals, military spending... I'm no conservative, so fully acknowledging there's some valid push back, but are those all not things that America needs to manage a LOT better? - Humans do contribute to climate change. This just can't be disputed any more.... can it? - Still completely baffles me (again, I'm 28 & Liberal for the record) how anyone has the right to tell gays they can't marry or a woman not to have an abortion. - America has too many guns. Like, way too many. And they kill each other with them in astoundingly high numbers. As an observer, action would be a refreshing change. Instead, the country is more fearful. Not that someone on the street, or in the mall or at their school will gun them down BUT fearful that one day, a gun might just be a bit harder to purchase. - Where does the private prison industry rank among America's biggest money-makers? Last I had read it was right near the top. Prisons exist to make money first and to protect society second and rehabilitate offenders....112th. That and the fact you can still go to jail for 20 years for relatively minor drug crimes; insanity. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now I look forward to hearing where I'm wrong and how my views will change as I get older Until then, I'll be quietly crossing my fingers that America is still standing 5 years from now.

People sure will do anything in the name of competition! The Ocho is a great place to find some ridiculous and amusing sports - or people doing ridiculous things in normal sports -
On 1290 just now they mentioned both Ladd & Enstrom missing practice, but noted Ladd was seen icing his ankle. #PrayForAHealthyLadd
-
Exactly. Well, if he was a few yrs younger, perfect.

Talk to anyone from New Orleans who was there during Katrina, and it's pretty evident MAJOR crimes were committed. I was there in 2013 and it was astounding what some of the heavily affected communities still looked like. Think 3rd world. Literally.

Bombers Sign Macho Harris and DL Sheyon Green
Jimmy Pop replied to Jpan85's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Steelers Future's Report - Shayon Green (Apr.15/15) Not a ton there... good tackler, not a great pass rusher. Multiple injuries in college, but his senior year was his most productive. A Shawn Lemon mention at the end... guess they were both in Pitt at the same time. -

Even funnier was Walby tweeting that we'd signed ANDREW Harris, not Macho. -
Probably wouldn't do much differently, actually. Though I've said (coworkers can vouch!) numerous times, if I were GM I would have had Ladd and Buff figured out before the season even started. The longer this plays out, it's just hard not to think to yourself; how did they not have at least Ladd or Buff dealt with by now. And, what's the mindset of Chevy right now? Does he feel like he has the cards for a power move at the deadline? Really odd time to be a fan of this team. Maybe the "strategy" employed by the Jets pays off, but as I type this, it's hard not to just see us as indecisive.
-
I see lots of fans vent on twitter about our cap this season and it's correlation with our position in the standings - which is completely fair, just missing the big picture entirely. If the Jets can, no reason not to do a bridge. I love Troubs - but no way he deserves $35-40M of guaranteed money.
-
If I'm Edmonton, no way I take less than Trouba, Petan-like prospect + pick for RNH. If I'm Winnipeg, no way I take that deal. I think one of Edm's FW find their way to Brooklyn and Hamonic comes to Alberta. Hope not, just a hunch.

That's a real cool read.

Cobourne hasn't even been confirmed yet. Still rounding out the rest of the staff before making it official? -
I can't figure out why people are so enraged about our salary cap THIS season. We all realize the pending FA and RFA's we have right? We all realize this team was NOT at the bottom of the payroll list prior to this summer. TNSE has always said they'd be a middle of the pack team, cap-wise. They're clearly keeping Stempniak/Tlusty kind of money and saving it for free agency. Comments about an overall lack of spending are mind bottling to me.

Game 49 : Good Ole Jets @ Bad New Jets
Jimmy Pop replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
The Stu/Chair pairing has had some atrocious stretches, that's for sure. That said, how many teams out there have studs on the 3rd pairing? Serious question; not an expert on roster depth league-wide. Seems to me you'd ideally want 2 legit top pairings where either can play against #1 lines, and provide offense of their own. Your 3rd pair is some mix of the veteran "intangibles" guys, a la Stuart and up-and-coming youngsters perhaps not ready for 20 mins a night a la Morrissey & Chiarot. ...I guess IDEALLY ideally you want BETTER defence, so we're clearly not there! But I don't have too big an issue with our top 7 D now....more concerned with lack of D prospects in the pipeline after JM. -

I had no idea Cobourne was even in coaching. Was he RB coach in Regina last season as well, or just 2014? -
Game 49 : Good Ole Jets @ Bad New Jets
Jimmy Pop replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
That was the most fun I've had this season. 3 on 5 goal, Tony P fight, hat trick for the Dane & a goal from centre ice. Moar please. -
To me, the Oilers are a perfect example of why the Jets do need to be aggressive with Buff and/or Ladd. High 1st rounders, hell 1st overall picks, are always nice. But they're young. Take time to mature and reach potential. Maybe the Oilers are close to perennial playoff berths, maybe not. But either way they've had what, 5 years now at absolute rock bottom?! I don't want that. I don't want to watch a team (nevermind paying for season tickets) that year after year leaves you without hope of winning anything but the draft lottery. So where's the balance? That's why Chevy makes the big bucks. Keeping the youth movement progressing, while retaining veterans still performing at a high level.
