  1. Yeah, we've had some absolute blockbusters, haven't we? At trade deadline & the draft he's a master at it. The room is just electric. That's not what you wrote thought. You dated chevy doesn't make trades. That's not true. To now get sarcastic about what you wrote is disingenuous. And as stated how many blockbuster trades actually happen?
  2. He would have to get over value for a young 30 goal scorer?
  3. Interesting they point to increased revenue of IGF but not increased expenses. I'll never by the argument that just because a business makes more money that the employees deserve it all. They were offered a 9% raise. Counter with something reasonable and let's move on.
  4. Chevy does make trades. Saying he doesn't make trades is factually incorrect.
  5. Completely disagree. Fans like everyone in a jets jersey. But trade buff to make the team better and we will all be thrilled. And again management has never said they are happy with status quo.
  6. For me personally it's my own personal negative experience with unions. Though during one contract negotiations out company made an insulting offer and I was happy to rally people to care (most didn't). But I find too many unions think it's the 50's. Fighting for a 10% increase and visions care and personal days off is not the same as fighting for a living wage and workplace safety and reasonable hours. Unions haven't evolved. That's what annoys me
  7. Well basically Harris I saying "this is what I think. This is what is true but sorry guys i should be towing the idiotic company line even though it's going to cost us all money". Classic union. Good job boys.
  8. Hockey buzz (yeah I know) reporting two eastern teams interested in grant Clitsome. That's a move I hasn't considered but it does make some sense. He is decent and has a good contract. Might be a little squeezed out of Winnipeg of we're looking to keep Postma and/or Redmond full time (or brining Kulda or Morrissey in). Also reports that Flyers still want Buff. I think there's a deal to be made there.
  9. Good for Andrew Harris. Sure, it's terrible for his PA but it's actually honest, mature and professional.
  10. I'm not sure you followed this story very closely but the thrashers are far better than an expansion team likely would have been including some key marketable players. We still ended up with solid draft picks. Also buying the team was mutually beneficial for both true north and the NHL. There is a great story out there about how the NHL tried to raise the price and Thomson used his ahem connections to enforce the agreed upon terms.
  11. lol yes, the Bombers are selling bootleg Marvel shirts. I dont care of they have to put a Big Mac on a shirt, if it sells and makes them at least $1, go for it.
  12. Hey more power to them. Whatever sells
  13. I think in most CBA negotiations the company (in this case league) *appear* to be the bully because it's *their* business. The players or workforce are collectively trying to get something out of their boss. The boss is almost always going to have the sense "we will give you this and you should be grateful" because it is, afterall, *their* business and *their* money. (And I say that as a member of a local workforce going through current CBA negotiations). I remember asking my Union once why they didnt just knock off the childish rhetoric and go into a room and be adults and make their best offer, accept the companies best offer, meet in the middle, shake hands and have some drinks. And I was basically told "thats not how it works. Both sides have to make offeres they have no intention of ever seeing come to reality". It really is quite stupid. In this day and age, collective bargaining should be much different. The last union meeting I went to I couldnt believe the attitudes. There was almost no one at the meeting (awful communication by our union "leadership") and the national rep called everyone "brother" and "sister" and took every opportunity to tell us what losers our front line managers were...those managers, ofcourse, had zero to do with union negotiations. It's an old school mentality that is beyond passe. But most of ther workforce dont care. The ones that are VERY pro union and become leadership are the ones that embrace the old school passe mentality. The PA and the League could make a deal easily. Just do it.
  14. Oh the dude is a crazy old racist, the irony is that the comments that he is in so much trouble for aren't. His remarks about being embarassed are regarding his old racist friends - he doesn't want his...girlfriend...to be seen with black players because of what his friends might think. That said, his history of racist actions are fairly well documented, not worth re-hashing. As for the...girlfriend..., as I understand it in California it is illegal to record a private conversation without consent. She certainly has no ethical high ground to stand on; she might not have any legal ground to stand on either. Of course, once you pull the pin on a grenade and thrown it into a room, pointing out the legal ramifications is just a wee bit too late. She accomplished what she set out to do. This is a story full of horrible people. I'm sure they'll all get book deals and reality TV shows as punishments for their actions. Also, I think he can do better.
  15. The perception that gays do those kinds of things is part of what creates homophobia. Take Canadian Blood Services policies as another example. To someone who is not educated, the questions that CBS asks about homosexuality make it appear that most homosexuals live a high-risk lifestyle. If that is not the intent, then why are there specific questions about them? Why not just general questions about high-risk sexual activity? There are many other examples in society - you can't completely blame individuals for being uncomfortable with homosexuality. Oh for sure. I agree. The blood thing is interesting. My buddy was called all the time to go donate. When he came out, he told them "Im gay" and they never called again. Unfortunately, there is a predominant segment of the gay community that is anywhere from somewhat to wildly permiscuous, in an extremely disgusting way actually. Sadly the prevailing opinion that gays engage in permiscuous sex is not unfounded. And I say that as someone that has made it clear what I think about homophobia.
  16. Those are very good points. I liked the Pavs deal at the time. I still dont mind it. its not a terrible deal. When you consider at the time as stated, Jets had no other goaltending options and werent about to get into a bidding war for a veteran when they were re-building. Plus, Pavs was considered a young solid prospect at the time so we were locking up a young goalie for what amounted to the extent of our perceived rebuilding phase. Either Pavs would rise to the occasions or we'd have some prospects ready to take his place or we'd be in a position to trade or UFA sign a replacement. HF Boards has a lot of people wanting to ditch Pavs and go with Hutch/Montoya. I think thats a terrible idea. Hutch is complicated because he requires waivers this fall so he's either here or he's not. One could say let the back ups battle in training camp but do you not re-sign Montoya? Because if you do, hutch is not taking the back up spot. If you go with Hutch as the #2, and Pavs gets hurt, you're in a precarious situation. I still like the idea of sending a conditional pick to TO for the rights to Reimer. I dont know what the Leafs would want in a trade but I like Reimer and Pavs as a pair with Hutch seasoning on the Rock.
  17. Read a story speculating that Florida is willing to go down 6-7 spots in the draft. With Jets picking 9 (if I recall correctly), I wonder if we could sweeten the pot and snag first over-all. Buff + 9th Pick for 1st Pick.
  18. Guys make $45,000 a year & you want to break them? That's utterly ridiculous. Why not just find another league to follow?Dont be a crybaby. Where did I write exactly what you accused me of? Where did I write "That guy making $45,000, how dare he make that much, lets break him".I said if the players thumb their noses at the CFL's reasonable offer and end up striking over it, I want the league to break them. ie. break the union. ie. win the battle. ie. get us back playing without mortgaging the future of the CFL to the players. You'd rather the players win everything they've demanded? Okay sure, we could hope, after losing a month of the season, that both sides are kind and professional and reasonable. Not me. If that happens, I want the side responsible to pay for it. And that side is the PA. If my union demanded unreasonable demands after being offered a 9% raise, I'd expect my company to start pulling things off the table if we walked out and cost them money. Im on the side of reason. You can be on the side of players making an average of $80,000 for six months of work who claim they "cant eat". I'm not a crybaby but you're becoming a big bag of wind. You said you hope the CFL breaks the union. it's right there for everyone to read. I think that is a ridiculous statement. People say & tweet things in the heat of the moment. This is an emotional issue. You don't? And like Bluto said, for every Burris contract there are 10 or 15 players, maybe more who make the minimum. You want to break them? What did they do to you? Why is this so personal to you? You take a lot of things personally man. It's my opinion that if the players strike I hope the league wins. Do you hope the players win? The health of the league is more important than individual players. And no I don't really care about a few guys who make $45000 to play football for six months. This isn't the hunger games. If they don't like it they can get a real job. Wow, not meaning to offend you but you say some outrageous things & when you get called on it you revert to name calling by calling me a crybaby. I thought we were having a serious discussion until now. I believe that you truly don't care about the guys making $45,000 & want to take their labour rights from them because you think they're overpaid when they're not. I do care about the guys making the minimum. They're the grunts on Special Teams who sacrifice & put their bodies on the line every game so we fans can be entertained. It sounds like I got under your skin which wasn't my intention but so be it. You're the one crying about players making tweets you don't like. You're the one who said he hopes the CFL breaks the union which I & others take exception to when the guys that play our game are nowhere close to being spoiled brat pro athletes, You're the last one who should be pointing fingers at anyone. If there's any professional league in the world where the majority of the players are basically playing for the love of the game & deserve more, it's the CFL. If anyone is making his position a hill to die on, it's you. I never said I wanted to take labour rights from anyone. I apologize for calling you a crybaby but when you dont like an opinion, you twist words to fit your attack. I dont *care* about most of these guys. Why would I? Aside from my general care for all human beings, I dont know them. They *choose* to play football. Credit to them for chasing their dream but is making $45,000 a year for six months to play football at the lowest end of the talent spectrum is the sacrifice they choose to make, then so be it. I think the PA existing is good for the league and the players and they deserve a fair deal. They were offered a fair deal that is obviously open to a fair counter proposal. Right now, the players are being unreasonable. So Im on the side of the league. And if unreasonable players cost us regular season games, then I hope they suffer. Not suffer in the sense of tar and feathering or water boarding but in the sense that they wont make up the money they lose and I hope the owners make up the money *they* lose by squeezing a better deal out of the PA.
  19. Very interesting comments here. I like this thread very much. Brandon - you seem to have issues with gay people. This isnt about homophobia and I know some people like to paint those that have a different opinion as close minded. So let me address your remark first. Rob Ford came under fire for not attending the Toronto Gay Pride parade. I dont recall all the details as I think he eventually did make some clearly homophobic remarks but at the time I read the story, his comments were essentailly "I have no problem with it at all but I dont think the Pride festivities are a good place to take my family. I dont feel some of the antics are things Id like my young kids to see". And you know what, I dont disagree with that. I marched in the Pride parade here last year and I think I'd be okay with my kids (if I had some) being there but I can understand and have no isse with those that wouldnt...as long as its not because they dont want to expose kids to "gays" but you had people walking around half naked, sex toys, heavy making out/petting etc. So I can understand that from the stand point of exposing kids to that behaviour, gay or straight. There are homophobic comments and then there are comments that arent. Dennis Miller once spoke to this. Obviously he's a pretty right wing guy and he was asked how he feels about gay marriage. He gave a diplomatic answer that I actually liked. He said basically "who cares? What two consenting adults do or do adults wanting to get married is about 5343rd on my list of things to worry about". Youm dont have to openly *like* gay marriage to shrug and say "meh who cares". It's the people who openly oppose it that are the problem. Anyway, that aside, applying the same standards to Sterling, I'm just not sure. He admitted he was angry and he wanted to sleep with the woman in question, who is black (if Im not mistaken). Isnt his head coach black? And the majority of the athletes in his league? That doesnt preclude him from being racist ofcourse. But something doesnt fit. I think "crazy old bastard" is just as likely in this case as "raging hater of minorities". But whats done is done and as others said, its business. His remarks about Magic were ludicrous too (even if here was some truth to some of them). If he hadnt given that interview, I think he might have been able to save himself.
  20. Agreed. We need depth forwards. I think Kane is under valued around here though. People don't like him and that impacts how they see him.
  21. Never happen. Maatta is worth more than Kane by himself, never mind adding in a 40 goal scorer. Postma is a throw in.It would take a huge offer to pry Maatta out of Pittsburgh. Maata is not worth more than Kane. If he is then Let's trade Trouba for Crosby.
  22. Anything is possible. They could make this roof out of gold and pixie dust too. Never happening.
