  1. To be fair, if you've given up on WWE in the past few months, give them a try again. Its not perfect, but it's been vastly improved. Daniel Bryan is quite literally the freshest star they've had since Steve Austin. And even at that, they've screwed him up a few times. Originally they had him pencilled in at WrestleMania to face Shaemus. Only the reactions of the fans got that switched. Only last night did they *finally* link him with his real-life wife Brie Bella which should have happened ages ago. HHH is good in his current role and shouldnt be a full time guy nor does he want to be since his corporate responsibilities are more important at this stage. The thing about Kane is, he's incredibly open to anything and has been given more crap then anyone over the years and yet always seems to do great work with the garbage he's given. He's just a great personality. His recent "Corporate Kane" gimmick is basically a rib on him as he's actually a very well-spoken, politically active libertarian. His program with Bryan is a decent first "big victory" for Bryan and they have good chemistry together. I'd wager the long term direction is Brock vs Bryan which should be tremendous. The issue with Brock isn't that he's partime, its what they do with him when he's there. Because he has Paul Heyman (which was never intended when they signed Brock but Paul is so amazing that they realised they needed him). Brock coming in with an aura of legitimacy and immediately losing to Cena was bad. Then he lost to HHH. Then he's spooked by Undertaker. Hes a legit badass who should be killing guys and I think him beating Taker and Heyman's efforts have redeemed him to a degree. From here its simple - have him beat Bryan for the title at SummerSlam, kill everyone in his path before losing the title back to Bryan at WM next year. The Diva's are vastly more talented than in the past but dont get the push or the angles they need to get over. Thats very glaring when they debut a new girl like Paige (who is a very good worker at 21 years old), she gets a great reaction and now with AJ taking time off, they have no heel girls who are over for her to work. AJ was a revelation as a Diva (good work, good mic skills, good charisma, fresh look). Alicia Fox was a good first defense for Paige because Fox can work and work the crowd but with zero push she isnt over. Ziggler is the perfect example of a guy who has all the talent in the world, fans love him, he's a good company guy but someone somewhere doesnt like him. The root of his issue seems to be an interview he gave where he said if he and Orton went into a dark alley to fight in a real fight, he (Ziggler) would be the only one who came out. Pretty stupid thing to gut a guy over. There is reason for optimism with HHH in charge despite his past as a nortorious bull cutter.
  2. Yeah. It would always be nice if he shot all over everyone. But that's not his style. And not what a professional does when he wants to keep working.
  3. To be clear buff wasn't carrying. It was one of those situations where any dollar bill has some coke residue on it. Or so the story goes. Buff was on ten brink of major major stardom. Had the look. Was over. And could work. When he broke his neck he was poised to return as a massive star but wcw always tried to out smart everyone and turned him heel. In wwe he had the misfortune of being in that awful first "wcw" match that the wwe audience crapped all over. Wwe was high on Booker T so it was buff that took the heat. He also had a physical altercation with hurricane around that time and got released. Wwe really dropped the ball on their purchase of wcw. And buff was one of the casualties. Should have been a huge star.
  4. Miller would look fantastic in Winnipeg but I'm sure we are not on his preferred destination list.
  5. You won't get an argument from me about "garbage" wrestling. I'm almost to the point of not caring. I've tried for too long to "unite" the local scene. When egos get in the way and you have two or three promotions competing you end up with each of those promotions with X amount of talent and a bunch of jobbers filling out the card. I remember that HTM show. It wasn't mine. Lol. But I had HTM in town in 2012 and 2011 and be was great both times. He actually worked really hard. You just have to know what appeals to those guys. In this case HTM enjoyed the idea of working a young kid and worked hard with him.
  6. Montoya is mlre technically sound than Pavs. He's also very experienced and a former first round draft pick. He's not as athletic as Pavs. That's why I question our goaltending coach. What are they doing to coach up Pavs? I would also take a chance on Reimer. I've heard even the knucklehead Toronto media admit that Reimer was a scapegoat many nights for a bad leafs team. My worry would be how he handles pressure playing in his home province. But as an RFA with less than stellar stats he should come at a reasonable rate. Does that mean Pavs for Reimer swap? I don't know about that. If Reimer faulters we'd be in tough. I'd like to have Reimer as the back up pushing Pavs. And if he's good and Pavs is bad then you dangle Pavs at the deadline to a team who wants an experienced back up. There's nothing wrong with having two decent goalies.
  7. Even though I belong to a union I generally come down on the side of management. My experiences have always been poor. There was a time when unions really served their purpose. Now I really think unions create dissection and discourse as a means to justify their existence. The last few meetings I attended it was a lot of "brother" this and "sister" that. A lot of management bashing (and by that I mean bashing front line managers not the people sitting at the table) and a plea to put all out efforts behind getting the NDP re elected. In sports it should be easy. In the cfl, revenues have increased. Therefor the players are due for a raise. But let's not get crazy. Make offers, split the difference and go to work. The power always lays with the owners as the NHLPA kept proving.
  8. Teddy Hart wants to come in for us. He wants to work with Omega. One of my guys is living out in Alberta right now. I haven not spoken with Bruce. I always try to accommodate other Indy guys who come through Winnipeg. Professional courtesy. But I generally don't foot the bill to bring in Indy guys. Winnipeg actually has a significant amount of local talent. The local industry often craps on itself but especially when you consider that Winnipeg is basically an island unto itself without several major centres in close proximity, we have produced and developed a lot of talent. Just in PCW alone, Omega, Mike Angels, Mentallo, Jon Cutler, Adam Knight have all worked for Japan, Mexico and/or WWE. We have another one who is about to leave for Japan. And we have four guys who were trained by Lance Storm.
  9. Pavs contract is easy to handle though. If the jets resign Montoya it tells you they really are committed to Pavs. And they might be. I think there is a sense that Pavs plays as the team does. And a more defensively sound team would greatly improve Pavs stats. If the jets being in someone like Reimer or even use hutch as the back up it tells you they are open to real competition.
  10. We generally run our main show about monthly. I just bought a new ring so I'm awaiting some upgrades before I confirm the next date. But probably may. I'm locked in for July 12 because that's when Omega is back in town so I might try to make that a "big" show and bring in Steve Corino too. If there's anyone on here that hasn't been and would like to check out a show I'd be happy to have you as my guests. Let me know and I'll out you on my comp list. It's always nice to see new faces!
  11. She OD'ed. If anything he could have been in trouble for providing her drugs. But she was an adult and she chose to mix blooze and drugs. Not Murder. The church shows and u of m shows were the same organizers. Buff was a good guy when I booked him too. But he got napped at the border when his bags triggered a coke warning. He wasn't carrying and was let through but he was shook up. To hilarious degree. Lol
  12. Yes unfortunately. The only people this system benefits are the "leadership". Certainly not the people. I always feel sorry for the protestors who don't have a clue what they are really protesting.
  13. Is love to have moulson. And if love to have Barkov.
  14. Also I would be utterly shocked if we made gooch an offer. He's gonzo.
  15. Pavs isn't a technically great goalie. He's big and athletic. It used to be that many goalies got better even as they ages because they became smarter and technically sound. What Pavs has can't be taught. But being better technically can be taught. I'd actually be taking a long hard look at our goaltending coach. Also of we did find a new number one Pavs could be traded. We see the negatives but I think for the most part he's still considered a young goalie with upside. His contract isn't bad.
  16. A few answers: The former partner I've referred to is Mike. I refer to him as my partner because I met him when he was booker for a promotion called TRCW which began running shows at The Palladium where I worked at the time. We became very good friends and started PCW together. We submitted a proposal to a local businessman named John who Mike had previously pitched. A couple of the local wrestlers worked for Johns business as their day jobs and he was a casual wrestling fan (but more into MMA). John liked our proposal and bank rolled us initially (as well as bringing us both into his business as employees). This was December 2001 (it was actually Grey Cup weekend 2001 that we pitched John and he agreed to bank roll us). We made our unofficial debut at the end of January 2002 with shows in Minnedosa and Portage. Our official debut was March 3 at the U of M where we drew over 1700 fans. John rapidly began losing interest shortly thereafter. He let us continue to work out of his Pembina hwy offices until late summer 2002 but for all real purposes he was "out" by spring. John did later pass away. The circumstances were questionable. Mike left in 2003 and started up his own promotions called AWE and WFX. It was WFX that ran shows at Church of the Rock. I didn't meet Steiner but I was always a fan. His wwe debut was tremendous. Unfortunately for him he was programmed with HHH at a time when Hunter was very protective of his spot.
  17. he's a Finn? lol I stand corrected. And yeah I tend to think my ask was a bit high for Florida as Barkov was a 2nd overall pick I think. So you'd be trading a 1st and a 2nd overall for Kane.
  18. There are some people who believe Trotz is over-rated. Big Show was talking about that with the idea that Trotz got the Preds to the playoffs many times but only past round one once. I guess it depends on your definition of success.
  19. Also... while we didnt bring in Billy Gunn, we have brought a lot of guys in such as: Eddy Guerrero Road Warriors Honkytonk Man Brutus Beefcake Buff Bagwell Jim Neidhart Brian Christopher Ultimo Dragon And many younger guys like: Chris Sabin Petey Williams Steve Corino Chris Daniels AJ Styles Amazing Red Samoa Joe El Generico Kevin Steen Davey Richards
  20. PCW? I've been to a couple in the past. Dont you guys always bring in stars from the past? like billy gunn was there among others? Kenny Omega (omega driver rules) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GLeEE9zLUo <--- sick What was the deal with omega? i thought wwe signed him but then he left, i heard rumors it was because they wouldnt let him do all his crazy moves. but, whats the actual reason? do you know? Cuz man, that guy would have been great to see in wwe. PCW yes! We didnt bring in Billy Gunn (that was my former partner after he left and started another promotion), but I believe Gunn was in our audience once when we booked Ultimo Dragon, Black Pearl and Brian Christopher when they were in town for the other promotion. As an aside, I helped out backstage at one of those shows and Gunn was a great guy. Kenny signed with WWE after attending a Noah (Japan) camp put on by Harley Race's promotion. Interesting story: The camp was a bit of a work in that it invited indy guys to pay to attend but the guys were split into two groups: beginners and advanced. The advanced group were all (or mostly) Race's guys and the beginners were everyone else. The idea being that the Japanese and WWE scouts (Johnny Ace was there) would pay particular attention to the advanced guys. Well, after a few minutes, Trevor Murdoch (worked for WWE briefly) pulled Kenny aside and asked why he was in the beginners group. He explained he was told to be there. Murdoch said no, you're going to the advanced class. Kenny was the only guy signed from that camp. Johnny Ace compared him to Brian Pillman. When Kenny reported to developmental it was the old Deep South Wrestling promotion and run by Bill Demott. Far be it for me to speak for Kenny, but there were several guys who were there during that time that later spoke out about the poor conditions and treatment. Not to mention there was a standard pay that wasnt very good. I think Kenny felt that he was young and wanted to pursue his dreams in the business, which included Japan. He asked for his WWE release and left on good terms. He actually returned with a week's notice and wrestled AJ Styles for us (PCW) in a tremendous 25+ minute match (Styles was another great guy to work with). He's worked in Japan ever since (as well as ROH, England etc etc). WWE developmental is a lot different now since HHH took over. Full training centre, medical staff, TV facilities and guys (and girls) are developed from the beginning with the idea they will grow into the character and get on WWE TV. I'd love to see Kenny there too. He'd be the most talented guy in their system if he was there and had a great look, charisma etc. Dont be surprised if it happens....
  21. Were they all drug addicts? No. Were most of them drug users? I would say yes. Warrior has been very open about steroid use. He was most certainly not natural. When he returned in 1992 he was much smaller (this was after the steroid trials and Warrior returned as Hogan was taking a sabbatical to let heat die down from his being caught lying about steroid use). There's no doubt Warrior was a fitness freak. He began working out at a very young age but was 155 lbs at his graduation. A couplf of years later, he was 250+. When Eddy Geurrero died, the very tragic aspect was he had cleaned himself up. Perhaps he was still using steroids (he was huge for a tiny guy) but he had kicked the addictions (I was fortunate enough to have booked him in Winnipeg in 2002 a month before he re-signed with WWE, amazing guy). He died of a heart attack but his heart was enlarged and damaged from drug use. I certainly will not be surprised to hear Warrior's heart was enlarged and damaged. It is true his grandfather and father both died in their 50's and Warrior felt he would too. He wrote to Vince 20 years ago that due to the early deaths of the men in his family, he knew he didnt have long to live. Look at Jake Roberts and Scott Hall. How they're still alive is baffling. Even Vince. If you're a fan and have never seen our shows, Ill be happy to comp you and friends to our next one. Just shoot me a message.
  22. Barkov and Burmi might be alright. Perhaps its a cliche to assume Russian players want to play together and will make each other better. But you never know.
  23. Thats interesting. i wonder if thats Chevy's decision for budget reasons or does Maurice really like those guys?
  24. Did I read correctly that Teppo Numminen was let go in Buffalo? I dont know much about him as a coach but Id love to see him back in Winnipeg if Maurice goes that route. You do raise an interesting question as it pertains to the assistants. Maurice didnt hire these guys. He'll want his own staff.
  25. Run the Bombers for a year, make enough money to sink into owning a radio station. Not a bad gig.
