  1. Im a little perplexed also. But it could mean nothing. It might just be the absolute support for a player who currently plays on the team. "He is our starting goalie"....until he isnt.
  2. A very good friend of mine and top guy in my promotion. He and Steve Corino just lost the tag team championship on our last show. He is a quality human being. We worked together for a short time a few years ago. I remember seeing him wrasslin at the Osborne street festival one year, it was lots of fun to see live even years after I stopped watching wrestling much (Tatanka ftw). I understand he recently published a fiction series as well. Quite an interesting guy. Absolutely. If you'd like to come check out a live event (and see Knight work), feel free to let me know. I'd be happy to add you to my guest list!
  3. Now the draft lottery is over, how about we make a deal with Floriday? Kane and the 9th overall pick for Barkov and the first overall pick. :-)

  5. Gretzky was traded for money cause Pocklington was broke, Roy demanded a trade to get away from a coach he didn't like... That's really the point here. You don't often see teams trading players unless the relationship between the two sours and that makes it hard to get full value cause the buyer is reluctant to give up a lot. This whole idea that they can just trade Kane for big value is a fallacy because like it or not he does have some question marks with his attitude and that would give the perception they're moving a problem player. I disagree. Unless there is something significant behind the scenes that we dont know about (but that other teams surely would), there is nothing to indicate that Kane is a problem player. When you hear legitimate sources discuss Kane (like Bob Mackenzie, Gary Lawless etc), the reasoning behind trade talk is generally, does Kane want to be in Winnipeg long term, does Kane fit the type of team that the Jets are trying to build. If Chevy makes it known he will entertain trade offers for Kane at the draft, there will be a long line at the Jets' table with significant offers. Kane's talent, age and contract make him a player every team could build around. Not every team would be able to offer a blockbuster (for the reason you stated that they'd give up more to get Kane that it would be worth), but plenty of teams would do it. The point is not that you'd get a player equal to Kane (unless the perfect scenario of a player like Kane wanting a change of scenery from his team ie. Sequin in Boston) but that you'd get a top six talent beneath Kane in skill, a 3rd line-ish player with talent and character (think Frolik) a prospect and/or pick (and depending on the position, draft strength and scouting ability that pick can prroduce anything from a bust to a superstar).
  6. A little simplistic. To an extent the same thing can be said about acting. Plenty of liars dont make it. Good manipulators and motivators probably make it the furthest. The best characters are the ones that are exaggerations of reality (their personality's amped up). WWE got away from that for awhile. They would come up with character ideas and then assign them to a wrestler, put the wrestler on TV with little hype and when he didnt get over in two weeks, they called him a failure and got rid of him. HHH has been a strong positive influence lately (even though he had the bad habit of cutting guys' balls off over the years). And WWE has been much better lately.
  7. Did you have season tickets in section W in the old stadium? The guy in front of me, I'm guessing somewhere in his 30's, was a wrestling promoter in Winnipeg. I wonder if that was you? He came to games with a huge guy who was a wrestler. You must know Dave Petrishin (sp?) if you're in the local wrestling industry. My parents have sat with him at games for years. I believe that was my former partner Mike (I remember seeing him in the same seats at a few games I went to). I never had season tickets. I think he's mid-30's. Im a couple of years older. If you ever went to The LID nightclub, you likely talked to me as I worked there for years.
  8. Very good points Iso. The Cons are always painted as the anti-aboriginal party. There was a recent protest that was all over social-media and an aboriginal friend of mine was active in posting news about it. The links were always titled something like "Harper trying to wipe out aboriginals" or "Harper's attack on our people". I clicked some of the links and oddly enough I never saw Harper in any of the protest videos. I did see aboriginal protesters breaking several laws and acting violently towards the police. Harper was nowhere to be found. I will say if Harper wanted to use his majority to make major changes, (and this goes for any politician), ditch the reserve system and fix these issues. But its easier to pander to minority lobbyists (leadership) than it is to make real change.
  9. Where is he being praised? By Chevy or my statement to talk him back? Telegin is all potential. We havent seen what he can do. He earns strikes against for failing to report to the AHL but obviously he and the team made ammends or the Jets understand Telegin's position since they loaned him to the KHL. In all likelyhood, had Telegin reported to the rock, he would have been playing with the Jets by the end of the year. He's a solid depth prospect who could be very effective in the bottom six with potential to play top six.
  10. I consider Burmi a tremendous puck posession player. He's good defensively and has offensive skill. The numbers perhaps dont translate and thats something Im sure Noel was trying to change in changing and maturing Burmi's play. Im sure Burmi doesnt hate Jokinen. I believe his agent felt Burmi's play warranted 2nd line centre minutes moreso than Jokinen's play. And last season, he's probably right. But thats not an issue since between Little & Scheif we have our top two centres.
  11. On Kane - I cant say that race doesnt play a part. Read ANY online story about Kane and the comments contain dispicable racist remarks. I cant pretend to understand what its like being the victim of that sort of nastiness, especially in a sport that is mostly white. I do think it was silly of him to play the race card himself but its his card to play and I have no doubt he's been the victim of racism. With that being said, being a victim isnt an excuse to be a **** nor does it give a pass for bad behaviour. BUT, Kane is young. And yes there are young players with lots of money who are perfect gentlemen. But there are guys who are punks at every level. Sequin. Patrick Kane. Keith Tkachuk. As I said before, if social media existed before, Tkachuk would have been driven out of town by a mob with fire and pitchforks. Lots of rumours on Kane. The truth likely lays in the middle. I never heard from any reliable source he walked out on a tab. I *was* told he'd complain until tabs were comped. A bit different. I *did* hear about the team mate fight. But you know what, team mates fight every day of CFL training camp. If Kane wants to be here, wants to play hard, wants to make an effort, and wants to be a character guy, then I want him here. We can't be angry at Kane for not being Ladd. Kane is Kane. He is expected to be a professional and the Jets made efforts to help him in that regard (brought his dad in at one point I believe). Jokinen is supposedly a guiding force with him too (according to Lawless, Jokinen was a wild child at Kane's age). I expect more. But I also understand humans are humans. If Kane matures into the type of player and person we expect, then Im not going to call him a piece of crap or anything like that.
  12. I hate to pick on Nate but again I wonder if you watch hockey. You seem very negative on everything. As for Ladd, 30 goals puts him in top six in my opinion. A great team probably has him as the 3rd line LW or *maybe* 2nd line LW. And thats how the Jets use him. Kane-Scheif-Wheeler became our top line regardless of how the depth chart was printed. Ladd is a good leader and captain but maybe not the right leader and captain for a team like the Jets. I have no problem with Ladd. He's the type of character guy that championship teams have up and down their line up - not flashy but good.
  13. I voted Liberal in the Cretien days but soured on him. I knew a girl who was in the Young Liberals (or whatever they are called) and since I liked her I didnt really want to talk politics but one day I finally explained that I simply couldnt support Cretien and the Liberals anymore. She actually agreed and told me to hang on until Paul Martin was in power and that they really needed Cretien to retire gracefully. Ofcourse, that didnt happen. As powerful as he was, you could criticise Cretien for severely damaging the Liberals on his way out.
  14. I think Noel will be a good NHL coach with more experience. I thought he was a good teacher for young guys that wanted to learn but when dealing with young guys that had a greater sense of entitlement from not learning in Atlanta, there was a disconnect. I also think Noel's expectation was for guys to make themselves ready. He seemed to feel that at this level for this money, a player should motivate himself. And in theory he's right. Maurice seems to understand that it doesnt always work that way. When Maurice says our team is not properly conditioned, that bothers me. Im VERY much looking forward to training camp next season.
  15. Exactly. if I'm strategizing I dont touch it. All it does is make you look bad and produce sympathy for the guy.
  16. Fantastic news. Now send him to Russia to bring back Burmi and Telegin. He did a lot to change the Jets' mindset in a short period of time. His "bag skate" which he called a preview for a "man's camp" went over well and the team responded. I expect there to be some changes this summer based on Maurice's analysis of the team. Chevy wanted his input and this deal tells me Maurice feels he is being listened to. Great news
  17. Kane pushes for that without Tavares feeding him. With Tavares, he's a 40-50 goal scorer.
  18. but asking the same question isnt going to get a different answer. Im not saying Im right or saying its easy or saying it happens a lot...just saying there *are* reasons to trade a good player. Boston was sick of Sequin's antics (reportedly) and traded him. Martin St Louis wanted a change of scenery so TB traded him. Sh!T happens.
  19. Oh and I believe he signed a two year KHL deal but there has been speculation as to whether his agent included an NHL out clause. If not, perhaps something could be arranged. The Jets *did* loan Telegin to a KHL team. The K owes them one.
  20. Jets have his rights. If he wants to play in the NHL, he will play for the Jets (barring a trade). I was a big fan of him too. Good community guy also, from what I understand. Knew some people that met him and I believe he was the player that went and played hockey with kids at a local rink just for fun. Very good defensive player with tremendous offensive skills. The problem was he wanted to play a certain way and Noel didnt want him playing that way. I think Noel was a "teacher" and was leaning on guys to learn responsible game before playing "fun". And there's merit to that. He came down on Kane to learn to be a complete player and I think his methods helped Scheif a lot too. But once there was that disconnect between Burmi and Noel, there was trouble. I think Burmi would have come back but he wanted more than the Jets were willing to pay and if he couldnt get the money he wanted, he didnt want to come back to be the Coach's whipping boy. Maurice is Russian friendly. if Maurice re-signs, I'd send him to Russia to sit down with Burmi and get the lay of the land. Burmi coming back vastly improves our depth and might even make Jokinen expendable (though I'd be interested in both with Burmi on Jokinen's RW). Kane-Scheif-Wheeler Ladd-Little-Frolik Buff-Jokinen-Burmi Halischuk-Slater-??? Thats a good team right there, not counting some of the young guys from the Rock (O'Dell, Telegin, Klingberg, Lowry etc)
  21. Why in the blue hell do you keep asking this? Apologies if its not you but I think it is. Drives me crazy. Asked and answered NUMEROUS times. You dont only trade bad players. Good players get traded too. Even in my last post I provided reasons - if he wants out, if the return makes the team better etc.
  22. No one should make fun of Cretien's disability. I'd like to think we're not *so* sensitive that we can't poke a little fun now and again but I see the point. I remember when the Cons made fun of him...yikes, talk about back firing (and stupid). But nothing riles me up more than having a conversation about politics with someone who is staunch anti-Harper "just because...." and when pressed its always the "secret agenda" or he "hates women". Uh huh
  23. Because kane is better than any of those three pieces and compliments their team to a degree one would expect Kane to score 40-50 goals.
  24. Depends on the other team. If they have a top six forward who they can't resign or for whatever reason they dont feel fits into their team, then its possible. Kane has the potential to a tippy top goal scorer. He's not your average top six guy.
  25. Its fair to see that people are quick to react to Kane "rumours". but it's also fair to see that he's been the subject of a lot more "rumours" than any other Jet. yes he's young. But I know of another young player (a friend of Kane's actually) who picked a fight while intoxicated at a local bar during the lockout and it got very little play. Some of the Kane's rumours are true. But if social media existed when the Jets 1.0 were here, keith Tkachuk would have been run out of town and he ended up maturing into a very good player and seemingly a very good person.
