Actually he did not say you “new” people. He clearly said “you people”. Ive seen a lot of minorities on social media express their negative feelings about this so I’d say you’re wrong on that point too. Regardless, Rogers can hire and fire whomever they want.

That’s was my initial reaction too. I’m surprised he was fired to be honest. But it sounds like he refused to apologize which actually makes it worse. I could understand someone, especially of his age, misspeaking but he owned it later so what can ya do.

He won’t be remembered that way in my opinion (and I say that as a long time fan). And while there was a backlash to keep Don years ago, there was always a mixed feeling towards him for a long time. It would revisionist history to suggest he was always universally loved.

Got a nasty message from a buddy about this. He thinks everyone is being too PC and there is nothing wrong with what cherry said. I just don’t get it. And all this stuff about Trudeau...they have nothing to do with each other. I think JT was wrong and I think Cherry is wrong. The right wing movement is getting really gross. It’s almost embarrassing to admit to being a conservative. Sadly. I grew up on Cherry. When it was a game I didn’t care about I’d still record HNIC just for coaches corner. I’d like to be able give him a pass cause he’s 85 and how sharp can his mind be? But it’s par for the course for him. The above article I posted is excellent. Cherry romanticizes hockey and Canada of his youth and hates change. I’ve shed tears right along with him on some episodes and he truly cares about the military and kids etc. It’s sad really. But it’s the right call by Rogers.

You don’t see a problem with what he said or you think he’s a racist old man? Had he made his point about Canadians in general bot wearing the poppy it would have been a strong point. He chose to single out immigrants. As for the firing it wasn’t just this. This was just the final straw. I sort of feel bad for him because as you said he’s an old nut job. But he said it. And it was the right call to can him.

Also that first go around, he tried to make it very wwe oriented. This time it’s supposed to be legitimate football. also Vince wanted to do a second season last time. But nbc backed out. UPN was willing to do it but only if Vince accepted a reduction in SD from two hours to 90 minutes. Vince wasn’t willing to hurt wwe to take a chance on XFL (any more than he already had).

He can certainly afford it. But he’s banking on tv rights fees being worth a bundle, more so than ever before and higher value for lower ratings.
