Tom Higgins interested in Bombers GM job
The Unknown Poster replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Well yes it was. I guess I don't have to keep it to myself. What makes the rumour shocking is the source. I can only assume someone misheard and it's Khari as OC but yes that above rumour posted last night is what I was told by someone who got it from a very high source in the bombers. -

The team has value. The debt on me stadium is not the team. The obligation the team has to pay for the stadium is a problem. Your $10,000 car with a $100,000 lien against it doesn't change the fact your car is worth $10,000. But yes as long as the debt repayment obligations are apart of the deal, no one will buy the team. A prospective entity would have to determine how much income is derived from the stadium alone. Are there enough extra events to generate a million dollars a year? If so maybe a deal where owner pays $10 million for team and $500,000 a year in "rent" for 50 years plus a a $3 surcharge on tickets for 50 years. You can get pretty close to paying off most of the debt. -

I heads the most ludicrous rumour this morning about the new GM and head coach position from a high level person. It's so bizarre I wanted to post it but due to the source was sworn to secrecy. If it happens to be true, this board will explode. -

And according to two veterans they are well prepared every week. The two veterans seem to agree with Burke that talent is more of an issue. -

What the government did to OH has been reprehensible. But don't even get me started. I would assume a payment of $6 million to $10 million and some sort of ticket surcharge to the government for the team Would be thrilled to see TN take it. But the location doesn't serve TN's real estate development business very well -

Why do you always stick up for Burke the way you do? You criticize people who stick up for Mack. Yet there you are defending a guy who clearly is not head coaching material, can't motivate his players, doesn't know how to deal with media & blames everyone else for the team's record but himself. As far as Mack goes, he hired Burke. So, to me & a lot of others both were/are incompetent. I'm not sure I criticize people who stick up for Mack. I've been pretty even on Mack I think. I thought he would do well but it became clear his vision and method was not working. In that same sense the coach has to wear the record of his team. So I'm not going to complain when Burke gets fired. But he's not the boogeyman. Too many people get personal with their attacks. Most of the people ripping him would never say it to his face. They'd probably ask him for an autograph and say "keep up the good work coach". -

If week after week you prepare flawlessly and then fail to execute then newsflash you are not preparing flawlessly. Then criticize Edwards and Johnson for lying. -
I don't have a problem with major decisions that clearly impact the future of the team and team finances being cleared through Miller. And I don't even mind Miller asking for a heads up on moves The GM makes I think what worries me is Miller being the defacto GM. I'm sure Mark Chipman is aware of moves Chevy makes but I bet Chevy doesn't have to check with Mark before he makes a trade.

So Edwards and Johnson say the problem is too many rookies. They say the coaches has them prepared with the gameplay flawlessly but love bullets hindered the kids. And some people still try to stretch that as Burke's fault. So Burke has the team flawlessly prepared according to two veterans but it's his fault when certain rookies lose their heads in real games? If you do a crappy job at work but loved your job would you quit? Is Burke killing this team? Absolutely not. That's ludicrous. He's doing the best he can. He's not malicious. If anyone can't stand him being here don't blame Burke, blame his boss. -

Burke is damned around here no matter what. If Burke came out and said he was the reason the team sucked, that he was the worst coach ever, have the people on here would go crazy criticisms him for doing it. If Burke donated his salary to a children's charity some would find fault in that. He's been unsuccessful as head coach. He's not the boogeyman. -

I think thats a stretch. Any coach could evaluate his team and say "we wanted to be better in some areas and will look to upgrade in the off season". Which players? "You will see in the off season" Burke just doesn't coat his words in double talk and subtleties. I'm not carte Blanche defending him but that comment is reaching. -

Burke's comments on Jade are not unfair. He said other starters surpassed him. That is true. Me echoed those comments. Nothing to see there. -

Asper "do you know how to design a football stadium?" Architect: "not a clue." Asper: "you're hired". Come on. If Asper wanted to buy the team he could write a cheque tomorrow. -
I remember when Jeff was with the bombers and all the love for him. So in theory I don't mind. I think the bigger issue is the appearance of conflict of internet on Miller's part. We are all likely a little over sensitive but who can blame us. It's probably true that managers bring in their own people all the time but we don't want any sense of cronyism or conflict around the team. We're tired. Didn't miller state emphatically that he would not interfere in Football Ops? And now he admits he will. Maybe miller will end up being the best CEO ever. But it certainly gives me a reason for concern.

Do you know anything about his background other than he worked in radio? I know you used to bounce at the Lid for years but I'm not going to say that doesn't qualify you for anything else since I have no clue what other work history or education you have going for you. That's a pretty silly comparison. And by the way I'm not qualified to be CEO of a pro football team. -

Probably because its clear that if the Bombers were ever for sale, he'd be first in line with his chequebook. He was also willing to pay more than the team was worth and contribute to the construction of a stadium he wouldn't own. I second the motion regarding True North and I posited that on the old board ages ago. The government would have to negate the debt load though. -

So you really have no idea, you just don't think the optics are right? With Buchko? Im not the only one that thought it was a bad hire, that he was unqualified and that his hiring coming after negotiating a new deal with CJOB stunk. And guess what, we were right! He crapped out. -

I have no idea. But what made a glorified salesman at a radio station qualified to run a professional football club, especially with a brand new facility to manage also? Some people have the skillset above and beyond their current job. I have no problem with rewarding skill and intelligence but many of us predicted he would crap out. -

Can we have a ban on Asper-mentions? Yikes. You'd think the guy was Jack The Ripper or something...
