  1. The current WPS HQ is the old Canada Post HQ. No idea if there was ever a theater there...
  2. If I recall correctly it was almost the centerpiece of the "Nashville of the North" proposal. Some small tour company wanted to buy it...or have the City fix it and gift it to him, and he'd bring in country music acts and tour people here to watch them. Never went anywhere...
  3. I have to admit, Im a city slicker but I've always wanted to ride. But never have. The gf's family had snowmobiles but Ive never been invited. Pricks. haha j/k Seems like a lot of fun!
  4. Im 42. We only had Grade 5/6 as guards. Does anywhere do it anymore? Its all adults now. I remember for years, when I'd drive past a school (especially my old school as I still live in the neighborhood) seeing the kids as guards and it was so lackadaisical compared to when my group did it (and were we ever THAT small?). We were trained to hold that flag wrapped up, straight up behind our backs, standing at attention etc. These kids were lollygagging about...disgraceful! lol
  5. How old are you guys? I was a crossing guard in grade 5 and 6 (87/88) and I dont recall this at all. I remember going to Saints Roller Rink for free on Tuesdays as a crossing guard (School Patrol). Maybe different divisions had different incentives? I won Patrol of the Month and got to have breakfast at McDonalds with a cop. I was also runner up as Patrol of the Year...and was Patrol Captain (got a badge!!)
  6. Anyone remember when Christmas was a Star Wars thing? Theyd always be played at the Holidays repeatedly for two or three days. And for awhile that was the only way to see them outside the theater. I still enjoy when the US holidays come around and you see the US channels (some of them) air a full day of films to take advantage of people being at home.
  7. I dont even recall City Place theater though its possible we went there as kids. As a teenager, we went to the Convention Centre theater for a time...they did like a Friday Midnight showing of an older films. A group of us would go. I remember it was always freezing cold in there. Went to Cinema City a lot when it was on Plaza Dr and was a cheap second run theater, perfect for us young folk with no money (late teens/early 20's). And became almost exclusively a VIP customer when Cinema City moved to McGillivray and became VIP. Just recently, I re-discovered Grant Park which is an amazing theater. All reserved seats with big easy-chair style leather sears that have power recline. Fantastic! PS: Steinbach has a great theater and you wouldnt think so. One screen so they get films late but they have easy chairs, love seats etc. Super comfy.
  8. Thats a good point in that Nancy was highly protective of Reagan and sheltered him as much as she could. I think Reagan knew the fortune teller stuff was nonsense but he placated Nancy who was impacted greatly by his shooting. Its possible the shooting is what hurt Reagan's mental facilities (many say he wasnt the same after). There is video showing his advisers leading him through some events. At other times, he was as witty and strong as ever. But thats what can happen with dementia. Trump really could just be a guy who isnt that smart. It looks more glaring in his position where he interacts with very intelligent people and has to talk about very intelligent issues. Probably most of us would sound uneducated when talking about most of these issues and we're arguably average intelligent people ...Trump seems like an average dumb guy.
  9. Back then they would have had longer theatrical runs so its possible they were playing concurrently. I think they'd put them back in theaters after awhile too if there was nothing new. Im quite certain I saw Jedi with my brother and then quite some time later, saw it with my dad. I remember because my choice for a birthday movie was either Jedi (which I had already seen) or The Dog Who Stopped the War which was 85...Jedi was 83 so it was either still playing two years later, or went back into theaters after its original run. Man...brings back memories. I cant remember which was our go-to theater. Downtown somewhere so probably the Met or Capital. I remember seeing Back to The Future 2 downtown at a beautiful theater. I remember it had a balcony level and "wings". Anyone know which one that was? Once St Vital opened the "multiplex" (six screens?) that was our go-to. Cant remember when it opened by I saw Transformers there with my dad (88?) And then Portage Place, which only had three screens but they were bigger. I remember seeing several Star Trek films there.
  10. I remember seeing that in the theater too. Looking it up, it was 81. Empire was 80 so probably still my first unless it was a later release. I remember my whole family went (Brother and parents) to a matinee and they had Darth Vader there signing autographs. He went to hand me the paper with his autograph on it and I tried to take the pen (much more interesting to a 4 year old).
  11. I cant say for sure but Im pretty sure mine was one of the Star Wars films (Empire, perhaps?).
  12. It's sad but there could be something to the idea he's at the beginning stages of dementia. Look at Reagan, who had many "senior moments" and yet was a pretty effective Commander and wasnt diagnosed for years (he was also, unbeknownst to him, examined by his team for a potential 25th removal). On the other hand, Trump might just be a moron. Remember when the comedians' take on W. was that he was dumb? W. was a rocket scientist compared to Trump.
  13. My 2.5 year old niece is obsessed with Frozen to the point she wants to listen to the songs when we're in the car, watch it at home. There's a short video called Frozen Fever which she also asks for by name (fozen feva!) We're going to take her to Disney on Ice. She's pretty rambunctious so hopefully she enjoys...Frozen 2? My goodness...might be her first theatre movie!
  14. Imagine being an organization that thinks guns are cool but losing their **** over two girls kissing. If it was two boys kissing these guys’ heads would have imploded
  15. He seems extremely protective of Ivanka but not so much the sons. And supposedly not so much Kushner. Hard to say. If they had Ivanka dead to rights on something that would put her in jail but he could take the fall to get her off the hook? Yeah, I cant see it,. I think he'd fight it. In his mind, at his age, get the lawyers to fight it out for the next few years. For someone of Ivanka's age (or the sons) with kids...you dont take chances unless you're confident or stupid. I think if the walls begin closing in, Trump will issue blanket pardons to his family.
  16. I was literally cheering at my TV. It was a pretty detailed plot that all had to come to fruition and the good guys did it.
  17. He's always been just smart enough to link himself to others, bankers etc, so that he can walk away, go bankrupt, stiff people because those people end up losing more if they force him to collapse. He really puts everyone else at risk for his own interests. But running for President was stupid. Well, running...maybe not. Winning...stupid. Because he's exposed all his hangers-on and minions and partners to criminal investigations (or worse if they flip and piss off the wrong people). If his kids are indicted, will Donald take the heat to try to protect them?
  18. Ha, I knew that would come back to bite me. I was trying to be as fair as possible because I think Trump supporters THINK he's successful.
  19. Anyone watching Survivor anymore? I used to watch it avidly and then over the years would pop in every few seasons. I watched the current season because Johnny Nitro (Mundo/Impact) was on. And holy smokes is it entertaining. Last night's tribal council was tremendous with multiple twists.
