I also think sometimes people dont consider their market. They think what they like is what everyone will like. I worked at the Palladium when it became the Stratosphere. Owners spent a lot of money renovating. But the Palladium had been known for cheap booze, young crowd, very casual. With the Strat, they tried to be more downtown club. More expensive cover, more expensive drinks, "classier". It worked for about six months but ultimately died. Like totally dead. And I remember urging the manager to change...with the idea we're minutes from the U of M but priced out of their range. They did another minor reno, became "The Lid" (which was the nickname for the Palladium), dropped cover back to $2, drinks back to $2.50, played top 40 and dance and voila, packed. Stayed that way til we closed. I went into Reset last year. Awful. They had a nice layout as far as that building goes (which is a struggle because its a former Chuck E Cheese so limited). Lots of video games which was the schtick. Good light show etc. But the friggen DJ is playing like techno and house music. Not a soul one the dance floor but the video game area was really busy and everyone was dressed like they came from the dorms. So you had them thinking they were a "club" but the only appeal was video games and that was the market they should have been chasing. Plus, before I turned 18, everyone talked about going to Monty's or Scandals. It was like a rite of passage to adulthood. I think Canad made a mistake when they changed names. If you look back at the old Canad clubs, their "traditional" names generally lasted years. But when they tried to be Vegas rips offs, they changed them every couple years. No identity, people dont care, no emotional connection. How many Canad bars have actually closed? They tried to take over the entire bar scene. U4IA (and whatever it was called after) closed. Reign closing now. They converted to Taverns. Cowboys, which is arguably their best bar, is barely open. I worked there when it was Stardust and Boogie Nights and it was open Tuesday - Saturday at 7PM. Now it's open Fri and Sat at 9PM. The minimum price was something all the bar owners loved because they thought it would stop themselves from lowering prices to ridiculous levels. But it must made it cheaper to drink at home. It used to be you'd go to the bar at 7PM (I remember walking in at 7PM to open and there was a line outside) and you could have $20 with you to get in and buy enough drinks to get hammered. After minimum pricing, the norm became 9-10PM at the earliest and you'd pre-drink at home.

Poor timing on this one especially given who made it

I worked for Scandals and the Palladium/Stratosphere/Lid. Knew people who worked at Coyotes/Rockbar, Montys etc. My feeling is, the increased competition was good for everyone. When you had 4-5 popular bars, it became a night out destination to the area. But as bars began closing or changing concepts that were counter-intuitive to the U of M crowd, it sort of chased people away I think. Taverns and lounges became more popular than dance clubs. The minimum pricing didnt help.

I agree. But Maurice is about "earning" time. And "playing the right way". He'd rather lose 2-1 and play the right way then win 6-5. Unfortunately, we're losing 5-2. I'd rather take the handcuffs off, put talent in the positions to succeed and let the team play a speed, skill game instead of this grit game Maurice is trying to instill.

Matthias deserves to play. He's one of the few guys consistently generating chances, especially in the bottom six. Taking some pressure of Petan by moving him to wing might benefit him.

I wasnt told but Im going to guess "Condos". They wouldnt sell to another hotel chain Im sure. So look for it to be demo'ed. Reportedly, the nightclub there isnt doing very well either. The whole South Winnipeg bar scene died off a few years ago which is odd given the amount of students that live so close.

if she had nothing to do with her bf's attack, then yes. She was vilified. She plead gullty to hindering prosecution. But US Figure Skating investigated and found that she knew of the attack beforehand. if so, she got off easy. Her account is she was threatened at gun point by her husband after being gang raped. if that's true, she was absolutely another victim.

The Four Points by Sheraton have good food. I cant tell you prices though.

I always felt Bush would be remembered by history more fondly than when he was President. The thing about former Presidents is, there is ideological disagreements but rarely the sort of discourse Trump has created. The Bush's, Clintons and Obamas always showed respect and fondness towards one another. There was a "report" going around that after the election, when some of the Russian stuff started coming to light, Obama enlisted the counsel of the former Presidents. The Steele Dossier was reportedly financed by the Bush family (some dispute this). But if you ever saw Bush and Obama and their families together, you'd never think they were opposition. It was H.W. that, after suffering a terrible defeat to Clinton, wrote him a really nice note which has become tradition (I dont know if it began with H.W. but that seems to be the first one that pops up). I cant imagine future gatherings of the Presidents including Trump and looking as warm and "fun" as they do now. Despite strong disagreements, I think most people look at the Presidents and see men who were patriots and deeply wanted to do what they felt was best for the United States. Its fair to say many people dont feel that way about Trump.

Canad Inns Express is closing down by middle of next month. Property was sold. I worked at Scandals when I was 19 years old. Had my 18th birthday party there (as did just about everyone I know).

Yup. General Kelly sold his soul yesterday. This is what the Trump White House does. They attack people and then when people defend themselves they act as if they are the victims. kelly said how disgusted he was that the Congresswoman made it political and yet it was Trump that started it. Kelly went on to attack her for something else so he couldnt even pretend to take the high road. Plus, even if we grant Trump said something stupid but didnt mean it maliciously, he then lied. His Press Secretary lied. His Chief of Staff then confirms Trump said what the Congresswoman and the family said he said and that which Trump and his Press Sec. lied about. Trump then goes back to lying. What a morally repugnant administration. And to think its' now bringing a respected General down into the muck.

The speculation/rumor that was flying around was that Maurice and Chipman are very close friends and that Chevy did not want to give him an extension.

Speaking of Berdin, good interview from March of this year. Came to NA because he wanted to play and didn’t think he’d get a chance in the K. Plays for Sioux at Jets behest. Is visited often by a Jets coach. Says he spoke to them GM and his agent was negotiating for “next season” which would be this season. So I’d suspect they might look at him turning pro next year. https://thehockeywriters.com/behind-the-mask-with-mikhail-berdin/

i don’t recall where I saw it but it was probably a year or so ago and some analysis site said Berdin might be the best of the jets goalies “of the future”.

If so, it will likely be too late. He needs to be fired by Halloween. He's got some really smart people hoodwinked.

This looks pretty good. Looks like the tone of the film is a bit amusing. I remember being really intrigued by the whole affair.

This upsets me. General Kelly is highly regarded. It’s one thing to babysit Trump behind the scenes but he’s essentially Saying he’s not upset Trump was a ****, he’s upset someone found out and called him on it. I haven’t watched the video I wonder if he explains that it was trump who made calling widows political and it was trump who lied about it

That was a pitch made quite some time ago, no? I have no issue with casinos. On one hand I can understand the government's desire not to spread the market thin but that shouldn't really be their mandate. If First Nations casino revenue is for the benefit of all Manitoba Aboriginals, great. I'd want to know how that is determined and who handles the money. But Im sure they have it figured out.

-
Hmmm I was looking at it from the modern casino perspective.

"Gaming for First Nations in Manitoba is a part of our culture, and should be a meaningful tool for our economic development. Gaming is a part of First Nations culture??

Chiarot isn’t terrible. He’s a good 7th D and has played well. As far as what side they play, some D men have an absolutely preference. Others prefer off side. Some don’t care. Poolman played both. Was he so bad on his off side that they’d prefer to start a lesser talent? I don’t think so. Speaking of D
