What's the security guard supposed to do, fight the police?
-
I don't think so. But he doesn't need it. He left last time cause he just got bored of it and the pressure vince puts on announcers. I suspect he'll be back eventually he also commutes from bermuda every week. If I lived in Bermuda I'd never leave home. Beautiful county. Graves will be doing both shows.

Interesting cause The Rock is Black Adam.
-
The first two seasons were. Third season moves onto a different story. All related to drug cartels on Columbia uses some news reels and photos within the story. Really good. But not a documentary. Actors. Dramatized.
-
What they should have done after last season. Bye bye Hall.
-
Jbl has quit wwe to focus on his charitable endeavours.

Austin was the biggest money draw. Rock was the greatest charisma and biggest cross over star. Flair was greatest all around performer. Hogan was biggest mainstream star.

Awesome tribute

Narcos season 3 dropped today on Netflix. Great series.

@FrostyWinnipeg you're right. Sorry! really interesting story though. I suppose the nurse could have made her objection clear and then stood aside knowing the victim would have the evidence thrown out if there was any. But she was doing her duty. Also a former Olympian

Check out the video in this story. Short version. Suspect speeds away from police on Utah. Suspect crashes head on into truck driver. Suspect dies. Truck driver, the victim, arrived at hospital in a coma. Poloce arrice to take blood from the victim to check for illicit drugs. Nurse refuses. Policy and law is clear. Police cannot take blood unless patient gives consent, is under arrest or there is a warrant. None of which exist. Cop threatens to arrest nurse if she does not let him take blood. She confirms the law and gets her supervisor on the phone. Cop can be heard telling another cop they can't get a warrant because there isn't probable cause. Nurse stands her ground. Cop physically takes her under arrest. Cop is still on duty nurse is a hero in my book https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/news/morning-mix/wp/2017/09/01/this-is-crazy-sobs-utah-hospital-nurse-as-cop-roughs-her-up-arrests-her-for-doing-her-job/

WCW had strong ratings for decades for Saturday Night showcasing Crockett's NWA (Flair etc). That was the flagship show. When Nitro debuted, it was almost by accident. Turner demanded to know from Bischoff what it would take to beat Vince and he replied "Prime time TV". So Turner gave him Nitro. They already had Hogan. And Hogan was drawing huge PPV buys for them. Lex Luger was the first poach as he appeared on the Nitro debut show after working for WWE all weekend without a contract. WCW didnt so much poach Hall & Nash as WWE let them go. Hall was in the doghouse for drugs anyway. Nash told Vince he'd stay if he matched the WCW offer and Vince said no. At the time, there were very few guaranteed contracts and Vince felt if he matched WCW, it would change the business too much. So he let them go. But Nitro competed with RAW from day one. First head to head rating was 2.5 to 2.4 for RAW. In the heat of the "War" they did 5.2 to 4.7. So the increase was not one hurting the other, but both drawing an audience. WWE once drew an 8.1 unopposed. Amazing. Bischoff was smart to see those guys as still being marketable. His big mistake was not building new stars and letting them all go to WWE. Plus the culture of WCW where guys would refuse to do jobs, hold out due to dubious injury etc.

TNA did a lot better. They were drawing over a million viewers for sometime. Even more. NXT yes but they lose money. ROH makes money.
-
Absolutely. Will never happen again now. New Japan is the 2nd largest promotion in the world and makes a fraction of the revenue WWE does. Plus, anyone that takes even a small bite out of WWE will feel their wrath swiftly and harshly. New Japan is a bit different because they would likely not be at risk from WWE in Japan. But WWE can sign away most of their stars if they want to. ROH's parent is richer than WWE with their own television network. If they wanted to compete, they could. They don't. Because building ROH up to compete would be such a massive money loser in the beginning. Ted Turner loved wrestling so much, he was the only thing protecting WCW in the early going of his ownership. Then ofcourse, WCW became Turner's bright star for awhile. Even when it was collapsing, Turner likely would have kept it but by then he had no power. Turner had a non compete on wrestling and when it was over, he immediately had his lieutenants look into starting up a promotion again to compete with WWE. Turner didnt want to do it unless it could compete. His people came back and said he'd lose $50 million to build it up and no guarantee of success. That ended Turner's interest. Yup. When wrestling was still hot, after WCW died, there was interest. Rupert Murdoch was interested. Hogan & Bischoff were somewhat linked to that idea. FOX considered airing a Bischoff/Hogan promotion. But both those guys knew, if you want to get into wrestling, dont play with your own money. When Bischoff was going to buy WCW (with Fusient Media's money), the idea was sound. It was the cancelling of WCW TV programming that killed it. TNA will never, ever, ever compete now. Its over. No one wants wrestling. Jarrett, with Anthem (Asper's) behind him couldnt interest any US networks in airing Impact for any sort of decent financials. TNA reportedly lost over $30 million. The only reason they survived was because Dixie Carter's parents own an oil company. Even then, they couldn't compete. TNA was actually dead a few weeks after they started in 2002 because one of their employees lied about the amount of revenue they were generating off PPV and when the real money came in, they were near bankruptcy. Dixie's dad saved the day. If TNA was on Spike still, they'd be viable. But not competitive. WWE makes over $700 million a year in revenue. No one can compete. It would take WWE collapsing down to someone else's level before there will be competition or a major, major conglomerate suddenly being interested and willing to invest. Disney has long been considered a viable option to buy WWE. Or a major touring company like the one that bought UFC. But the problem is, there are few stars left. For a company to start up tomorrow, they'd have to create new stars. Yes, they could sign Omega and the Bucks to a lucrative exlusive. But who else? Cody. Ryback. They just aren't big enough. What ROH does with New Japan is sort of the only way, but again, neither one is competing with WWE.
-
Yup. The worst thing about modern wrestling. When the older guys like Austin say today's workers have to fight for their ideas and take the bull by the horns etc, its easier said then done when everything is so heavily scripted and you get heat for doing anything off script.
-
Austin was the biggest star ever in wrestling. Rock the biggest star over-all when you factor in mainstream and cross over. DX was awesome. We used to pop big time when that green X appeared on screen to start their intro music. And Bret Hart was the perfect foil for them. 1997 WWE was tremendous. WWE actually got even better after Russo went to WCW. Chris Kreski doesnt get enough love as booker. He worked under Russo for awhile and then got bumped up after Russo left. He used to take flak for storyboarding his angles with the intent of making sure they made sense. But WWE's best business was when Kreski was booker. He was pushed out when Vince promoted Steph. Ironically, since Kreski was a legit Hollywood guy, it led to Steph transitioning WWE creative from "wrestling people" to Hollywood people which started the downward slide. WCW was really ahead of its time though. nWo led to DX which did it better. Eric Bischoff led to Mr McMahon who did it better. etc. To be fair, one of my favorite PPV's ever was Survivor Series 98 whch was a Russo booked PPV. It was the WWE title tournament and had so many story lines that came together. I use it as an example of a story-centric PPV (more angles, then wrestling). Awesome story-driven PPV.

Sable was huge. Flamed out early too. But huge. She tried to leave. She did playboy which was one of playboy's top selling issues ever. Then started balking at stuff WWE wanted her to do. She claimed she wasnt a worker. Claimed sexual harassment. She tried to get out of her contract. She made a deal with Playboy outside of WWE which WWE blocked. She ended up front row at a WCW Nitro show. If I recall, there was a lesbian angle WWE wanted her to do and she refused. So of course, when she eventually returned to WWE years later, first thing she does is kiss a woman. All those guys are good example of the Attitude era because its when WWE went from PG to TV14 or whatever it was. Vince Russo might be the defining factor of that era with his crash TV style booking. Well, really Austin and Rock and Mr McMahon are the defining factors. But everyone else were key parts too.

http://www.truenorthsquare.com/news/sutton-place-hotel-break-ground-springsummer-2018/ The Sutton Place Hotel to break ground spring/summer 2018 By Krista Sinaisky | Published: August 31, 2017 True North Real Estate Development, in conjunction with Northland Properties Corporation of Vancouver, confirmed details of the second phase of the mixed-use development at True North Square today. Northland announced it will break ground on The Sutton Place Hotel and its residential tower in spring/summer 2018, around the same time as the completion and occupancy date for Tower 1 at 242 Hargrave. With a combined suite count of 418 units, the full-service hotel and residences will be built on the site located at the northwest corner of Carlton Street and St. Mary Avenue. Once construction commences, development is intended to reach completion in 2021. The two Northland towers will complete the cutting-edge vision for True North Square that includes a full-service Sutton Place Hotel, two residential towers, flexible office space, retail shops and services, heated underground parking, direct access to public rapid transit transportation, a LEED Gold work environment, a breathtaking plaza and park, all only steps away from Winnipeg’s Bell MTS Place and the RBC Convention Centre. To view a new 3D rendering video of True North Square and The Sutton Place Hotel, please click HERE. To download high resolution images and the 3D rendering video, please click HERE. The Sutton Place Hotel will bring its tradition of luxury to Winnipeg’s Sports, Hospitality, and Entertainment District (SHED) with more than 430,000 square-feet of five-star space in two towers that form part of the True North Square development. The 4-storey podium, a 288-room, 18-storey hotel tower, and a 130-suite, 13-storey residential tower will bring stately, refined, old world classic yet modern character that will define the streets’ corner profile and complement the design features of True North Square’s office and residential towers. The more than 8,000 square-feet of ground floor retail space will be anchored by the feature restaurant, Chop Steakhouse & Bar. “Northland Properties has always been a great partner and friend,” said Jim Ludlow, president of True North Real Estate Development (TNRED). “We are genuinely pleased to introduce the Gaglardi Family, The Sutton Place brand, and its premium amenities and services to Winnipeg as part of our broad vision for True North Square.” “We are thrilled to expand our presence in Winnipeg and partnering with True North is the perfect way to do so,” said Tom Gaglardi, president of Northland Properties. “Bringing The Sutton Place Hotel’s tradition of luxury to downtown Winnipeg could only be possible with this collaboration.” Construction on True North Square’s Carlton and Hargrave towers is progressing on schedule. The buildings are rising at the rate of one floor every eight to 10 days, and the concrete structure is scheduled for top out by mid-November of this year. Installation of the high performance, triple-glazed curved glass curtain wall on Tower 1 (242 Hargrave) is scheduled to begin in September and will be completed by January 2018. True North is on schedule to deliver building occupancy for Tower 1 by June 29, 2018. The True North Square development represents, in its entirety, the result of a shared vision of the City, Province, and the private sector to achieve a major policy objective in growing the 11-block Sports, Hospitality and Entertainment District (SHED), connecting the attractions in this area and bringing vitality to Winnipeg’s downtown. Skywalk integration has been key to the SHED concept and the connection of key downtown attractions like the newly expanded RBC Convention Centre, the buildings of True North Square, and Bell MTS Place will be a catalyst for further re-urbanization of the downtown core. “True North is proud to be an integral part of the SHED vision and to have had the support of both the Province of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg as we deliver on a transformative $500 million mixed-use real estate development, anchoring the future of downtown Winnipeg for the next generation of office workers, residents, and sports and entertainment fans,” said Ludlow. More exciting True North Square announcements are on the horizon, including information about a new food hall market, featuring a boutique grocer, that will be the first of its kind in Winnipeg. Sexy Star has issued a statement (translated via google): "These days have been very difficult for me. On Saturday I had a championship fight; Was very hard. I think it all went out of hand. I do not know, it's a situation that right now I'm a bit confused. I want to be silent and when I feel it is time, touch the subject. Men, women, they want to finish me; Retire from this sport. I'm here; As I said at the outset: I will not stop, on behalf of all women who have been mistreated, physically or psychologically. I think I have to be stronger. If at that moment I went through a depression and left, I will leave this one too. I was doing what I had to do, what people deserve, give me a claw until the end. That happened, I gave it up. It seems that the girl is injured; I do not know, I do not know. Is the only that i can say." ***What a terrible statement, assuming A LOT wasn't lost via translation.

In other news, GFW (TNA) has re-upped with POP TV for another year (through next year). This is a good news/bad news scenario. Jeff Jarrett had openly talked of needing a better cable partner and being paid for their content (POP does not pay them). Clearly, they could not find a cable partner willing to pay them or one that was better than POP. The good news is, POP is willing to keep them.

Never trust a word that guy says.
