  1. Thats an interesting lawsuit. I know with home video, the studios sued the rental companies over trademark infringement and the courts recognized "First sale doctrine" allowing someone who buys the product to then do with it as they please, to a certain degree. I guess this goes a bit too far.
  2. Thats very true. There are some insane people on the right as well as left who would stare into the face of incontrovertible evidence and still stick to their "facts". This week it happens to be the far right and many Republicans who take one so-so thing Comey said at decide its factual evidence of "complete vindication" while ignoring everything else that was damning. But we only need look at federal elections here to see what the left resorts to in trying to dis-credit conservative opinions.
  3. The most recent ratings book had CJOB in 2nd place overall with a 10.9 (down from 11.0). And 1290 at 4.4 (up from 3.8). And I bet 1290 is content with that. As I imagine their highest paid programming has significantly higher ratings (Jets broadcasts, H&L etc). CJOB is a general information station, not a niche. CBC was the #1 local station at 14.5. The highest rated FM station was QX104 in 3rd place overall with a rating of 9.0 (unchanged from last quarter). CBC Radio One — 14.5 (13.8) 680 CJOB — 10.9 (11.0) QX 104 — 9.0 (9.0) 103.1 Virgin Radio — 8.0 (6.7) 92 CITI FM — 7.4 (8.7) 99.9 BOB FM — 5.9 (6.8) 94.3 The Drive — 5.6 (4.1) Energy 106 — 4.7 (4.9) Power 97 — 4.7 (3.2 as 97.5 BIG FM) TSN Radio 1290 — 4.4 (3.8) KiSS 102.3 — 4.1 (6.8) CBC Radio 2 — 3.6 (2.7) Peggy @ 99.1 — 2.6 (1.9 as 99.1 Fresh FM) Hot 100.5 — 1.5 (1.6 as Jewel 100.5 FM) Radio-Canada Espace Musique — 0.2 (0.3) Now Country 104.7 FM — 0.1 (1.3 as Rhythm 104.7 FM)
  4. I understand. But regardless, breaking news is breaking news. If you're the "Information Station" and you hold the broadcast rights, you break in with the local news. Because everyone listening switched over to your competitor.
  5. Unconfirmed "leaked" description of new trailer for The Last Jedi (from Latino Review): So not really a spoiler but if they show flashbacks of Luke, I wonder if they will de-age him? I cant recall off hand, when they had the Lightsaber vision in TFA, they showed Luke place his hand on R2D2, did we see any of Luke's face? Was he bearded?
  6. Yeah and I get it. It was frustrating to be a Harper supporter and trying to "debate" the left. I would never have thought the US "right" would be so insane that it would make me a democrat! lol
  7. Jets Free Agents: RFA's: Tanev, Dano, Copp, Chiarot, Helle UFA's: Thorbs, Postma, Pavs. They have almost $19 million in cap space. Forgetting about expansion for a moment, they likely want to keep all the RFA's (and shouldnt have much trouble re-signing them). Helle will get the biggest raise but it wont be a big contract (probably short term too). Of the UFA's, they likely don't re-sign any of them (maybe Postma, but I doubt it). Looking at next summer, they will have to spend more money: Little (UFA), Ehlers (RFA), Trouba (RFA), Morrissey (RFA). Toby as well if they want to bring him back cheaper. But they also have Toby, Matthias, Stu coming off the books which amounts to $10.5 million. So next year's raises are likely paid for through next year's savings. Even if Trouba gets $7mm, its doable. Which brings us back to this summer. If Chipman expects to be much closer to the cap, whats their internal plan? I dont see them going nuts on a goalie (unless its Fleury) nor do I see them going nuts on a D (even if they sign a D it's likely to be an under $3mm D as opposed to over. Trouba's extension is the big piece and it wouldnt kick in til next year even if they signed him this summer. It could be that Chevy has authorized to upgrade areas that need it (goaltending, bottom pair D, bottom 6 forward) and given a significant budget to do so. But that still doesnt amount to $15 million (getting them "close to the cap").
  8. Might Michael Stone be a Jets' target? (He shoots right but still...)
  9. Its okay if Toby was expiring. And it would be great if the Jets were willing to pay that much on D...Toby has one year left so if they spent a ton this season knowing he was off the books next year, then great. Remember Chipman did say he expected to be very close to the cap this year. So whatever their plans are, they include spending a lot of money (unless the Jets' Free Agents are all expected to get big raises, but I dont believe that to be the case).
  10. Im fine with the Bombers coverage on 1290. H&L spent plenty of time on the games before and after. Hockey is the bigger sport, no doubt. So it will always win the coverage game. And if you have 3-4 NHL games a week, there is more to talk about it. Bombers play once a week and got plenty of coverage around their games, especially considering 1290 didnt have the rights. I love Bob Irving though. My concern with the Bombers rights ever going to 1290 would be that they likely WOULD get buried under the NHL come the fall, especially the rare time there are over-lapping games. Im sure they'd shunt one of the games to their FM station but thats not ideal. However, I think 1290 would do an excellent job with Bombers coverage if they had the rights. As it is, when there is major Bombers news, 1290 covers it. If I recall, when they had their house-cleaning and Wade was hired, 1290 broke into their regular programming and had H&L on live analyzing it. CJOB was still playing their pre-recorded syndicated shows, something about lawn care or something.
  11. Trouba will get big time money to extend with the Jets, just as Toby expires. I think the Jets might keep Toby but obviously for far less money. I dont think they will be in the market for a top 4 D. I could see them signing a lower level D man. An AHL veteran type maybe. But I think they are comfortable with their D corp assuming everyone is healthy. Which is a tough assumption to make but we had unusual issues this past season between the hold out, injuries, personal matters etc. Morrissey/Trouba and Toby/Buff are a very good top 4 (especially if it keeps Buff's playing time reasonable. And if you then have Myers, Poolman, Chiarot etc to fill the other two, its not bad.
  12. I generally like opposing views. I have close friends who have different views than me. As a Conservative, even during the Harper majority, it still seemed like you had to keep your views to yourself and put up with the over-bearing lefties. Now, most people are anti-Trump but the ones who arent are just absolutely mindlessly obsessed with trying to convince everyone they're correct. Id be fine if someone put forth an intelligent perspective for liking Trump. But the constant F this and F that in support of him and the cherry picking of facts. Like this "Trump was 100% vindicated". Like really...someone HAS to be either playing a role or completely delusional. This particular person isnt really a "friend". Just on my friend list. Its sort of like a car wreck though. No one LIKES a car wreck but you cant help look when you see one.
  13. A guy I know was going nuts on Facebook in support of Trump and how Comey said nothing. Truly mind boggling how much people will twist themselves into knots to push their agenda. Anyone who thinks Comey's testimony was a vindication of Trump is disturbed.
  14. Toby to the pens made sense at the Deadline. Pens needed a replacement for letang and perhaps would have been willing to trade fleury then.
  15. Trumps lawyer. Misspelled "President" in press release
  16. Comey's response is telling. It could mean "yes, but not intentionally" or "he didnt want to but they had something on him" or "not directly but sort of". What it doesnt mean, most likely is "no". Although he also gave an answer where he said intel did not indicate collusion between Trump staff and Russia. So its a bit interesting. I think Comey is being very careful and almost surely has spoken with the Special Counsel and does not want to impact his investigation. My feeling is, the end result will be a scathing admonishment of Trump that falls short of indictment. Flynn might go down though and who's to say he doesnt flip. On the other hand, if this drags out til the mid-terms and if the Dems take control, all bets are off.
  17. Did you read the article? To me it was less reading between the lines and more, crediting prior stories etc. Trump flat out tried to obstruct. He flat out tried to intimidate. Was he malicious or stupid? Well, I suspect it was a business technique, making people have to ask for their jobs and demanding loyalty pledges. So he knew what he was doing. And Comey, in so many words, warned him off. The fact he excused everyone in the room including the AG when he asked Comey to back off Flynn...shows intent. Intentional obstruction. Does it rise to criminal? I dont know... is it entirely inappropriate for the President? I think that is clear.
