  1. I think Quebec is still the soft landing spot for a team like Carolina or Florida. Seattle would get an expansion team. I think the Jets sign someone like Elliot but Fleury would be my pick. Toby for Fleury makes sense (per @Goalie). Although if having Toby forces us to lose a good forward, it will be a tough pill to immediately trade him. But basically his salary and MAF's salary cancel each other out. MAF has two years left so the money isnt a big deal. And in Year 2, assuming Helle rises to the occasion, MAF is an asset to potentially trade (or you ride the veteran/youth tandem to a winning round or two in the playoffs).
  2. Yes, based on the article, the argument the writer is putting forth is Perreault is the Jets' 3rd most important forward. We can argue that, of course. But he drives a lot of the play. He's probably a big part of a really good 3rd line...and if we have a really good 3rd line and a traditional checking 4th line, things probably look good.
  3. This is pretty explosive actually. Trump is either very stupid or very arrogant. Or both.
  4. A three way deal with Vegas where Myers ends up in New York and Ham here is possible....
  5. I'm a huge Trek fan (and nerd). I thought beyond had a lot going for it. But it needed to be beefed up. Felt like a solid episode of TV. Still too many plot holes and contrivances. Liked it more on first viewing. Second viewing annoyed me
  6. Wouldn't they then have to protect both? Can they do that?
  7. If anything it needed a hell of a lot more.
  8. Ham would need to be protected. Doesn't help us. Although he'd certainly help the Jets D.
  9. And probably the other shoe dropping from why they only expanded by one team. The next expansion is going to suck for winnipeg though....
  10. I don't recall that. It's been trending older for years. So unless there was a different context I don't know why I'd say that. WWE has a wide demo. But it trends older. What made it explode in 97/98 was new teenage/young adult fans. One issue with wwe is that their TV demo and house show demo was generally at odds with one another.
  11. http://www.cnn.com/2017/06/07/politics/james-comey-testimony-released/index.html (CNN)Fired FBI Director James Comey aimed a dagger blow at Donald Trump Wednesday, saying the President had demanded his loyalty, pressed him to drop a probe into ex-national security adviser Michael Flynn and repeatedly pressured him to publicly declare that he was not under investigation.
  12. Im all for military spending. But didnt the Liberals whine about the Cons' spending on new equipment for years? And this announcement where they get the PR of investing in the military but dont actually spend the money until after the election is a bit disingenuous. How on earth will they pay for this? As a result, it says defence spending is actually closer to around 1.19 per cent this fiscal year, and that it will increase to 1.4 per cent of GDP by 2026-27. In real terms, that will mean an increase in cash spending from about $18.9 billion this year to $32.7 billion in 2026-27, with the biggest jump — at least in the short term — in 2020-21. That increase, officials said, lines up with when the government plans to begin spending in earnest on 15 new warships, which are now expected to cost up to $60 billion to build instead of the previous estimate of $26 billion. The government also plans to buy 88 new fighter jets at a cost of between $15 billion and $19 billion, which is significantly more than the $9 billion the Conservatives budgeted for 65 F-35s. But the defence policy also puts off much of the spending until after the next election in 2019.
  13. A lot of people frustrated with the testimony thus far essentially feeling officials are covering for Trump or just not willing to be critical. But the opposing view is that they are all very aware of how criminal investigations work and are unwilling to say anything that could negatively impact the investigation of the Special Counsel. I suspect Comey will have *some* interesting items on his agenda today but will certainly err on the side of taking the high road. This isnt the "gotcha" investigation, not at this point. It might lead to more focused investigations in Congress. But the big one is the Special Counsel. He's a friend of Comey's. I'd suspect Comey has had alot more interesting things to say to him than he will say publicly today.
  14. Probably not why the NHL wants to see in their tv ratings: PS: the numbers for wrestling tell you everything you need to know about that industry too
  15. Yup, Valimaki looks good. There are a few options around 13 for the Jets that will be fine. One mock draft had Glass falling to the Jets but that seems unlikely. It would not surprise me if the Jets traded their pick and moved down (or out of the 1st round) or looked to move up a few spots to get a guy they like. Though moving up, it would have to not be a steep price since likely anyone they draft it a few years away so why spend when the Jets look to be in need of help now. For example, if they like Dallas' 3rd overall, are they getting a player that makes it worth it knowing he's not helping them this year? Saw some fan theories of trading Myers to get out from under losing him for nothing. Odds are, Jets stand pat. They are pretty boring (other than the Kane situation).
  16. Reports out there that Justice League is beginning "extensive" re-shoots. When this was talked about before, especially with Snyder stepping down, everyone down-played it. But it sounds like Whedon wrote additional scenes and is shooting additional scenes and that it could extend into August. That sounds pretty extensive. Which brings up a question I always wondered. I know actors are contracted for re-shoots some time after principle photography is completed but what happens if an actor shows up looking different? A lot of these superhero types must work pretty hard to be in shape. Take Affleck for example, who has been criticized for his weight in the past. What if he shows up 20 lbs overweight? Or Gadot shows up under-muscled (she gained a lot of muscle for her role)? I guess we just dont notice? I remember in Batman Begins, Bale had just finished The Machinist where he had gotten incredibly skinny. And in trying to bulk up quickly for Batman, he over-bulked so in certain scenes you can see him really heavy and others really fit.
  17. Peter Tessier with some Jets' draft discussion (also some speculation Jets were talking to Dallas about their 3rd overall): http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Peter-Tessier/What-do-Mock-Drafts-predict-for-the-Jets/161/85601 What do Mock Drafts predict for the Jets While there are some rumblings of Nico or Nolan for the 2017 NHL entry draft which is similar to 2010 when it was Taylor or Tyler those decsions matter not to the Winnipeg Jets. This year, Kevin Cheveldayoff was nowhere near as luck as he was last year when the lottery gave him the second overall pick. This year the Jets have the 13th pick and thus are basically just another middle of the pack team for the draft. If we take a look at the various mock drafts what do those who dare to predict see for the Jets? My NHL Draft Here they have the Jets taking Jusso Valimaki, a LHD with the 13th pick. NHL.com has three mock drafts to look at and here is the first: Adam Kimelman He too has Valimaki going to the Jets Mike G. Morales has the Jets taking: Eeli Tolvanen: RW from Sioux City of the USHL and he has Valimaki going 15th overall. Finally from NHL.com we have Guillaume Lepage and he takes: Elias Pettersson C from Timra SWE at 13th. Comparatively he has Valimaki going 14th and Tolvanen at 20th. From Draftsite.com they have: Elias Pettersson going 13th overall. In this case Tolvanen went 12th and Valimaki 18th. So far with 5 mock drafts Tolvanen stands out as the rogue pick as not being like the others. Looking further down the listings for 2017 NHL mock draft we come to Fanrag Sports and they have: Nicolas Hague D, Mississauga Steelheads at 13th. Pettersson is 9th, Valimaki is 17th Tolvanen 18th. Now here comes the Bleacher Report who have a shocking drop: Cody Glass, C Portland Winterhawks. They have Tolvanen going 11th, Valimaki 14th and Pettersson at 19th. Now for something different it’s worth looking at ISS. Not a mock draft but a rankings and this is what they had: Ranked 13th overall Martin Necas,RW from Bmo Kometa in Czech R. Comparatively they had the earlier picks here: Valimaki 14th, Tolvanen 17th, Hague 18th, and Pettersson 20th. Now we head back to a rival blog and that is SB Nation. They have the Jets taking: Nick Suzuki, C Owen Sound. The other guys, they were picked here: Pettersson 6th, Glass 11th, Valimaki 14th, and Tolvanen 16th. So taking this all into consideration what do we really learn from looking at mock drafts? Toss out the likelihood of Cody Glass, thats some one picking a homer pick. After that two outliers are Hague and Necas so let’s assume they are not happening. Then we get Pettersson who seems to have the most movement of the group from 6th to 20th. The same seems to be true with Suzuki. What we see is that it’s coming down to Valimaki or Tolvanen showing up again and again closest to 13th overall. Now this does not mean these guys are right, they are simply modelling and guessing, probably more guessing. What really matters most to teams sitting outside the top 5 is this: if anyone makes an off the board move how does that trickle down the draft? Teams don’t simply look up and see who’s available and decide then, they estimate where players are likely to go and decide based on how they value a particular player. So if Glass fell to the Jets it’s likely they would take him simply because they had him higher ranked. So if something changes how much does that change what the Jets do? That’s where looking at each draft link comes in handy and you can judge for yourself on how well the odd moves make sense of if they even make sense. So if I was a betting man I’d say there’s a 40% chance it’s Valimaki or Tolvanen and that might be okay for Winnipeg.
