  1. There is actually major articles already online discussing this exact thing. It's something people think about. We don't know her personally. So how it impacts her role as Leia is directly impactful of us as fans and how we get to honour her and have closure to her as a performer and a role that meant a lot of many people on that subject the director of IX had hinted he had a larger role for her. That will change now. It depends how VIII ended. If it was a Leia cliffhanger then you need to resolve that through cgi. If they were holding off Luke/Leia meeting until IX then you probably still need to do that and boy will it be emotional. The CGI success of Tarkin will have fans wanting he same for Fisher. Disney expressly said they had no plans to use it in that way again. But....it will be up to her daughter I imagine (who was TFA). IX was scheduled to begin shooting this spring. But I think for many of us our sense of homage and closure will come with whatever they do to pay respects to Carrie in the film and the closure of the character in the saga.
  2. It's funny because I'm a strong anti-Beach fan so he shows up and I'm rolling my eyes. And then he was gone. Lol. Perfect role for him.
  3. According to other teams, players have option to meet in city they play next. So players would have the option of meeting in Chicago or coming to Winnipeg and taking team flight.
  4. Remember when I pushed the idea of Trouba for Strome+?
  5. Saw Suicide Squad as it was a gift. What a mess of a plot and very disappointing.
  6. We've had injuries. The point is if we didn't where are the points from the 4th line compared to other teams. It's not that far off. It has to improve but there has been a lack of continuity in the jets due to injuries
  7. Stanley Cup Champion penguins 4th line: Cullen: 14 pts. 34 games. 0.4 PPG Fehr: 5 pts. 29 games. 0.1 PPG Wilson: 10 pts. 31 games. 0.4 PPG Jets 4th line: Copp: 7 pts. 25 games. 0.3 PPG Tanev: 4 pts. 35 games. 0.1 PPG Thorbs: 3 pts. 29 games 0.1 ppg Replacing Thorbs with Matthias, Dano or Armia raises the PPG of the line so while there is room for improvement it's not out of the realm of reasonable point production for a 4th line
  8. Yeah I assume there is some benefit to having him under contract. Perhaps they have more say in his development and training.
  9. Speed traps? Maybe. Not checkstops though. So this year there has been backlash to the usual social media revealing of checkstop locations. One side says you're helping drunks get away with it. Other side said you're saving people from unreasonable tickets. And some think it leads to "drunk" drivers choosing to not drive if Checkstop is in their path. I think when police appear to be unreasonably fining drivers, it sours everyone on the campaign. Sure, are all those tickets legal? Probably. But I think the example used where police handed out candy canes and wished a Merry Christmas would create a more positive impression of check stop. If you go through one now, sober, and its a long process where the police are seemingly looking for any reason to write a ticket, then its perception is not in keeping with it's stated purpose.
  10. Interesting Article that shows us the power of perception and how police might do a better job of using "warnings" to reinforce a positive message while conducting checkstop programs.
  11. Who knows what Roslo will be. Looks good right now. Might be Little's eventual replacement.
  12. I distinctly remember sitting in a Perkins in St James across from my best female friend who I was crazy about and who kept waffling on whether she felt the same, the Jets had just left and said to her "you know what, this city sucks, the Jets left, you dont like me so Im moving to Calgary". Thankfully I didnt. The Jets came back, she moved to BC (and is doing great, still friends) and life is good. But man...being in the old Arena for the "farewell" to the Jets. I worked at Grapes on Main and business was dying. The area was dying. Everything seemed to suck. I eventually found a job at the Palladium which kept me fun and drowning in booze and girls and now that Im all grown up to see the Jets return and that celebration in distinct counter to the farewell and everything cool happening around Winnipeg now...we lived through the dark ages. As much as we want the Jets to win, just having them and with talent like Laine, Ehlers and Scheif is a hell of a lot better than the mid-late 90's in Winnipeg.
  13. Absolutely. I was born in 76 so I was at that perfect age for disillusionment in the 90's when the Jets left and everyone left too and downtown was a ghost town and Winnipeg sucked and it really seemed like we had no future. Its amazing to see the transformation in recent years through public projects and private investment.
  14. It was a plan by a "businessman" to get the city to renovate the Met into a modern concert venue and he'd bring US tours on a regular basis to see top acts. Pipe dream. But it happened at a time when Winnipeg was a ghost town so a lot of people wanted to see it happen.
  15. Not only are they very talented but you could see how it scared the Canucks. Tanev cheated to block a potential Laine shot which left Ehlers open. Usually teams play aggresive on the Jets but they were shying away from those players because of their talent. When you're only option is setting up Buff from the point, it becomes predictable. When your only option is trying to feed Laine, it becomes predictable. But try to cheat against Laine, Ehlers, Petan and Scheif. Probably going to get burned more often than not.
  16. That one great defensive play by the Canucks player to block a pass from Armia to a wide open Matthias and I shrugged because all it did was save Matthias the embarrassment of missing the net. There is probably the reflex to keep that line because they control the puck and that is important. But I agree. I think Armia has more upside in setting up scoring opportunities so him playing with better players makes sense. Mathias - Lowry - Copp/Dano is a great 4th line. P-P-A would be a solid line too.
  17. Especially Sara Orlesky. :-) When you watch that goal in real time, it sounds like the whistle blew first (which would have made it a ridiculously early whistle) but on the replay it was clear the puck went in before the whistle. One could argue intent to blow but the ref immediately signaled the goal.
  18. I thought you couldnt go over the maximum so I figured the Jets would not be able to activate guys off IR until after the Freeze. Very impressed with Petan. PP was dynamic.
  19. Remember when Winnipeg was going to be the Nashville of the North?
