  1. Interesting if the video showed any of this why he's be subject to such minor charges. More details from yahoo facing “non-criminal harassment charges” after a June 24 incident involving two women at a local club called Bottoms Up, police sources told The Buffalo News on Thursday. Police said the charges are based on witness statements and surveillance camera footage, and that several of Kane’s Sabres teammates were also at the bar that night. Police said a misdemeanor charge was unlikely as “proving intent to impede breathing or blood flow in the neck would be difficult.” From the News, the incidents in question were: In the first incident at 3:11 a.m. police stated: “… While inside Bottoms Up nightclub, suspect threatened complainant and made derogatory comments to her. While outside … suspect grabbed complainant around the throat and tried pushing her into his car.” In the second incident at 3:15 a.m., police stated: “… that while inside Bottoms Up, suspect grabbed her by the arms and tried forcing her out of the bar.” It is unknown if Kane was intoxicated at the time of the incidents, the police sources said. Kane, who is 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, tried to engage the bouncer in a physical confrontation, the sources said. There is a third woman that Kane allegedly harassed who hasn’t come forward to press charges or meet with police, according to the News. But the incident was also caught on video. From the News: “He yanks the unknown woman by the hair and pulls her down and then grabs her around the neck in the area by the bar door,” the police source said. “She has not come forward.” Kane is represented by attorney Paul J. Cambria. Evander Kane, we mean – for clarity’s sake, Cambria was also Patrick Kane’s attorney last year when police were investigating sexual assault accusations against the Chicago Blackhawks player. Said Cambria to the Buffalo News: “Evander steadfastly maintains that he did not do anything wrong. We have seen the videos and they do not support that Kane did anything wrong,” Cambria said. “I am sick and tired of anonymous sources making inflammatory allegations. If you claim something happened, don’t hide in the shadows. Anonymous sources are worthless. The courtroom is where the truth comes out.” Since the violations are not of a criminal nature, he won’t be fingerprinted nor will there be a mug shot.
  2. As silly as it sounds it might depend what happens at UFC. If Brock loses then he's almost surely losing to Orton but Brock made the remark that Vince knows a happy Brock is easier to deal with. So it also wouldn't surprise me that they asked him to lose clean to Randy in return for cooperation on UFC. But Vince sees Brock differently than Hunter and Steph. He knows Brock is the only special attraction he has. Hence why he squashed Cena and beat Taker. So you just never know. Which is part of the appeal. Randy is a good worker. Should be a good match. Then again they could offer Jones a ton to come in and "fight" Brock lol
  3. Save this for the next time someone says no one wants to play in winnipeg
  4. TNA's announces they will move to Thursday Nights coinciding with WWE moving Smackdown to Tuesday. TNA also drew their largest audience in over a year, almost 100,000 more people to see the Hardy vs Hardy spectacle this past week.
  5. He might change his tune if there is video evidence. What a clown. What a great trade, gets greater every day.
  6. I think if Jets went to Free Agency to replace him, they'd pay more. Its a good contract, not a great contract but a good one. Rewards the player, buys some free agency and recognizes his contributions. He's played lots of top six minutes so Jets cant very well tell him he's a 3rd line player and expect him to sign for 4 years.
  7. There is no reason to provide a NMC that requires protection unless the team was always going to protect him. So I wouldnt worry about it. if he has to be protected, then it was because the Jets were always going to. But again, the new contract kicks in after the expansion draft anyway. To Jimmy's point I thought the teams had to expose certain amount of salary but I didnt catch that in the rules. Vegas has to draft 60-100% of the salary cap though. Teams must expose: i) One defenseman who is a) under contract in 2017-18 and played in 40 or more NHL games the prior season OR played in 70 or more NHL games in the prior two seasons. ii) Two forwards who are a) under contract in 2017-18 and played in 40 or more NHL games the prior season OR played in 70 or more NHL games in the prior two seasons. iii) One goaltender who is under contract in 2017-18 or will be a restricted free agent at the expiration of his current contract immediately prior to 2017-18. If the club elects to make a restricted free agent goaltender available in order to meet this requirement, that goaltender must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the club's protected list.
  8. Im more of a wrestling person than an MMA one so Ill defer to your opinion. UFC definitely thinks Brock's a huge boost though. Word is Brock is getting a ton of money for ONE fight. So if he beats Hunt, its not even like UFC gets the residual value of him being back. Seems like it was done solely to juice the big event.
  9. Here is the NHL's expansion rules: https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-expansion-draft-rules/c-281010592 Gist of it is that No Movement Clauses must be protected. Doesnt look like No Trade Clauses do. Which makes sense since expansion to Vegas would be a movement but not a trade. Protected Lists * Clubs will have two options for players they wish to protect in the Expansion Draft: a) Seven forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender Eight skaters (forwards/defensemen) and one goaltender * All players who have currently effective and continuing "No Movement" clauses at the time of the Expansion Draft (and who to decline to waive such clauses) must be protected (and will be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits). * All first- and second-year professionals, as well as all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits).
  10. Probably moot point as Jets wont lose him for nothing. He will be protected.
  11. Frolik wanted more term and more money and reportedly his wife wasnt a fan of the city. What he signed for in Calgary is comparable but wasnt the rumor he asked for more from Wpg?
  12. I think Brock is the most marketable thing they have going for them. Not only in regards to their own fans who hate him but are curious about him but the potential for the fence sitter fans and the wrestling fans who are casual MMA fans. Although WWE did almost zero promoting.
  13. I believe July 1 is the new contract year. So the draft is 2016/2017. Which is why we luck out on the first year player thing. Is it first year or first & second year that are exempt?
  14. I understand but you said the Jets have to protect him. Do you mean have to as in, dont want to lose him or have to as in obligated to under the terms of the expansion draft rules? My understanding is Jets do NOT have to protect him but obviously if they dont, Vegas would be very interested in him
  15. Imagine if they hadnt made this deal with Brock. Where would UFC 200 be right now...
  16. Also this contract kicks in in the 2017 season so the NTC would also kick in there, right? Meaning he's not a required protected player.
  17. Agreed with Mike. Good contract for a very versatile player. Wing. Center. 2nd line. 3rd line. Glad to see him become a core piece of the Jets. Wasnt he in most people's list of protected forwards? Doesnt a modified NTC mean he does NOT have to be protected?
  18. I agree but police are trained in restraint tactics. No evidence this individual was on drugs. The fact both officers drew their weapons means they only had one free arm to restrain him. The close range firing meant it was all but certain to be a kill shot. The issue becomes did the officers fear for their immediate safety? They will say yes. They will say reports are he had a gun and he was struggling with them. I think they went from option a to option k and skipped a few along the way. No one needed to die. "He fought with me so I killed him" shouldnt be a sound defense. I agree in common sense. Dont fight with cops, no chance of getting shot. Follow their instructions and if you've done nothing wrong, you're likely on your way in a few minutes. But we must accept that disobeying an officer is not an executable offense. Also, two officers is not enough to respond to reports of a man with a gun in the first place. Cops are also trained in techniques to diffuse situations but when we see incidents like this, we rarely see those skills on display. Its always a competition to win. No one won in this case. A win for the cops would have been to take a little more time in talking to the person, wait for back up, potentially use a tazer or pepper spray. Firing a gun, especially a guaranteed kill shot, should be last resort.
  19. He made a point of saying he intends to get bigger and stronger. Do the Jets release information like what he weighed in at for the camp? If he was 177 last season, can he get to 190 for start of Jets training camp? that would be a reasonable weight to make the NHL at.
  20. A lot of wrestling fans wont care but its not a bad match from a marketing perspective. They will pull the "never wrestled before" line even though its not true. Orton will be as fresh as can be coming back after a long layoff. Its a fresh match for both. And the finish is somewhat unpredictable (though I wouldnt be surprised if Orton goes over to build a rematch).
  21. More from Dave Meltzer: Daniel Cormier was said to be far more than distraught after all the preparation he's done for this fight. Exactly what happens with him will likely be determined early tomorrow. He's trained very hard but this was a different level of letdown than most late replacement fights. Among the fighters who have asked to face Cormier on short notice are Gegard Mousasi, Michael Bisping, Ilir Latifi, Zack Cummings and Tom Lawlor. One would expect many more will also make themselves available first thing in the morning. From a name standpoint and storyline standpoint, Bisping is the guy to put in. It would be the first champion vs. champion match since Georges St-Pierre vs. B.J. Penn. Bisping just beat one of Cormier's best friends. It's a no-lose situation for Bisping, who would be getting a guy on an emotional roller coaster and he'd still be middleweight champion with a loss, but be part of one of the biggest shows in history. This would also salvage the show as much as any replacement at the last moment could salvage it. Mousasi is dangerous and has fought at light heavyweight before and done well, and has trained for the show. There's no story there. At the end of the day, Cormier has probably put in too much in the way of preparation to be off the show. It's simply too many millions of dollars potentially to not fight if the opportunity arises. Jon Jones will be doing a press conference at the MGM Grand at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning to give an explanation of what happened.
  22. I have a few opinions on this. As Brandon said, there were witnesses who said the suspect had a gun. Now whether he was going for it or not will become the crux of the debate. The officer on the video can be heard saying he's going for the gun. Americans want the right to carry guns all the time. This is the natural reaction to that. Anyone who might have a gun that the police have probably cause to question or detain have a reasonable right to be concerned for their safety and thus, will shoot. If I understand the Minnesota shooting, the guy is pulled over for a busted tail light but while looking for his ID, cop saw a gun and shot him. Im not sure what gun loving American's want to have happen here. On the other hand, I've made the point before that it seems a lot of police officers are shoot first, ask questions later types. There seems to be a lack of "heroics" in the sense that shooting was the last thing an officer did. Guy had a knife and is surrounded by 20 cops...disarm him. Dont shoot him. It comes down to two things: 1) training 2) a sense of us vs them on the streets. And I dont think its white vs black, but cops vs citizens. In the Baton Rogue incident, again its "Oh he was executed for selling CD's". No, he refused officer's commands and then physically tussled with them while carrying a gun (if he did in fact have the gun). There was an incident at the Jefferson Memorial where citizens were "dancing" and it turned into a mass arrest and questions of physical force. Its not that you were arrested for dancing, you were arrested for physically resisting officers. However, as someone who has been in countless physical encounters, sometimes people fight and sometimes the "struggle" is a reflex, especially if you're cutting off a person's airway. Most people that have done any sort of work that results in fights knows its usually easier for 2-3 people to restrain someone than 10 people. If two cops can't physically restrain a guy on the ground without shooting him, then those two cops need some serious re-training.
  23. Orton vs Brock announced for summerSlam
  24. Was just coming here to post this. Wow. Brock now the main event. Bet his payday goes up too. Crazy. Imagine if they don't have Brock and only relied on Jones fight. Disaster. From Observer During an impromptu press conference Wednesday night, UFC president Dana White announced that Brock Lesnar vs. Mark Hunt is the new main event for UFC 200. The reason? Interim light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been flagged by USADA for a potential anti-doping violation. Because the procedure part of this review cannot be completed by Saturday, Jones' fight with light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has been taken off the show. Lesnar vs. Hunt will remain a three round fight. White said he was tested in June, but was unclear what the violation was for. He hasn't spoken to Jones or his agent Malki Kawa as of this point. White said they found out just a short time ago and wanted to alert the media to the annoucement as soon as possible. Matchmaker Joe Silva isn't even aware of the situation as he's on a flight. White's hope would be that someone would step up to fight Cormier on super short notice, but isn't sure what's about to happen. White said he was unclear how Cormier would be compensated considering the amount of money that he makes.
