  1. wow. Wonder whats involved. I'd have loved to be in on Hall.
  2. I agree. The 3:30-5:30 seems so silly. It doesnt take two hours for kids to get 20 feet from the school. And the excuse will be something to do with after school programs. But there are certainly evening events, sports etc that go on beyond 5:30. The real reason is because most people would instinctively slow down around kids. And then the city wouldnt get money. But 4:30-5:30 when most school zones are devoid of kids, they catch people. The old law was better. If there are kids, slow down. if there are issues with reckless driving, put a black & white in the area to ticket the offenders.
  3. Not the best written article but some good points.
  4. Yeah Ill have to scope out the area. Its a shame it was not the adjoining street as I know its improperly marked. My buddy plead guilty but asked for a reduction and was granted but thats not really my point. I object to the whole thing. I can afford the ticket.
  5. I could probably attend without taking a day off work (my work is rather flexible with appointments etc). Like Bigg Jay said, its more the principle. The fact tickets are being thrown out due to the wait in getting into court, makes me think I should ask for a court date and see what happens. If it's over a year, Ill use the previous dismissed tickets as precedent in asking for mine to be dismissed. If that doesnt work, I can at least express my opinion. Worse case scenario, I pay what I have to pay right now.
  6. What was the outcome/experience with court?
  7. Thats sort of what Im thinking. Ive never "weaseled" out of tickets before. But the school zone program is so egregiously idiotic and so clearly about revenue, not safety that Im finding it a tough pill to swallow. Years ago I got a ticket for doing a rolling stop at the nearest intersection to this zone and I paid it...I was guilty (even thought it was 4am). But this is just idiocy.
  8. Two tickets have been thrown out due to wait times in court, creating a precedent. If I had the time to do battle, I would certainly say I cannot verify the validity of the ticket without the corresponding evidence that the radar gun was inspected (which has impacted tickets in the past). Additionally, the school zone in questions is actually improperly marked and was identified as such in one of those wise up Winnipeg videos. However, the street I got the ticket on was not the street with the improper signage. I havent had a chance to go back and do some investigating but Ill check it out this weekend.
  9. For sure. But it IS stupid. Thats my point. Obviously I did it. I guess the honourable thing is to plead guilty. But I consider the law itself and the way its enforced to be dishonourable so Im not sure I mind pleading not guilty. It is my right. And if it takes too long and the judge agrees, that's also within my rights. Its just a pain in the ass to do. Anyone else have experience with this (its my first)?
  10. So I got a School Zone speeding ticket. I want to murder someone. 4:36 pm. Not a kid to be seen in the area. Do I pay it or plead not guilty, hope it takes a year+ for a court date and say my rights were violated due to the wait? Or do I argue that school zone enforcement is inherently idiotic to begin with.
  11. You dont get fined for saying there is no truth to rumors. They'd get a fine for saying there is truth.
  12. Well I guess the Jets better sign Trouba today then!
  13. That is where I saw it first. Others have said the source is a good source. Boston hasnt denied it yet, as far as I know, which is telling to a degree.
  14. On one hand, if we knew Trouba didnt want to be here and demanded a trade and the Jets made a trade for 4 first round picks, we'd say Chevy is a genius. So there's that. But it puts the Jets in a hole and says "Winnipeg cant retain their stars". On the other hand, a presser that reveals "we did not match the Trouba offer-sheet but we just signed Scheif to an 8 year deal" would soften the blow. It would also look like a rich franchise who's owner is chairman of the board attacking a small franchise and driving up salaries.
  15. If it's $6.4 which I believe is as low as Boston can go, Jets match. Its tough because Boston can over-pay but then they still have to live with that contract. How long do the Jets have to think about it? Isnt it a week? Which is another hindrance to Boston during free agency.
  16. If Seth Jones signs today for $6+ then it puts the proposed Boston deal within the realm of reasonable. So I think Jets match. Not matching puts us in a poor position with the D.
  17. Chevy has already said he'd match any offer. I believe his response was "certainly". Plus, a city like Winnipeg letting a player go in return for picks...all the stories would be how Winnipeg sucks, cant keep its players, no one wants to play here and the team cant afford stars. Now it doesnt really matter what the media says...but in some ways it does. I think the Jets would match. Although it would be a ton of money off their books and assets to go out and get another D.
  18. They have to have an AAV of at least $9.3m so it would be four first round picks. Due to the way offer sheets work they could offer 7 years at $6.7m and get away with it. Because it seems offer sheets only have to be divided by 5 years even if the term is longer. Without a 2nd and 3rd round pick they can't offer anything less than a deal that equals $9.3AAV. But they could offer 7 years at $6.7 and it would be eligible.
