  1. "As much as Canadians dont believe in this illegitimate government that does not have a mandate from the majority of the country, they also do not want to go through another wasteful election campaign as a result of the governments failed policies." Which loosely translates to "We cant afford another election, probably cant win and risk losing even more."
  2. Never say never but WWE is so different now. Totally different culture. Publicly traded with shareholders to answer to and they went out of their way to attract the sponsors they have now. Going from TV 14 to TVPG was a conscious decision to attract better sponsors. The problem with wrestling is that its seen as low brow with a narrow demographic. So if RAW gets a 3.0 rating, thats more like a 2.0 for a more mainstream show. This is what has killed TNA. While they are the highest rated program on Destination America, DA cant sell ads, thus DA has cancelled them. Its just not worth it to them. For WWE, USA Network uses the ratings to drive up their station average as there is benefit to them to be a top rated cable station. So even if they get lower ad rates, they like the ratings WWE brings. However...WWE got way less money on their TV deals then they promised share holders so if ratings continue to drop, USA wont be happy and WWE's leverage evaporates. Once Vince is gone, though, Hunter and Steph can do whatever they want. But its unlikely they go TV14. There is still more leeway with TVPG, they just have to be careful because they have often been targeted by parents groups. And ofcourse, GOOD stories dont have to include T&A, adult language etc.
  3. So really, the opposition's only option is to vote down a budget or non-confidence. Or, whomever the official opposition is would help out the Cons to keep their position as official opposition rather then go into a costly election and risk dropping to third place.
  4. MTSC is cramped as is. COuldnt have been any larger. And as it was, the city wouldnt let them build out over the road on the second level (stupid decision too). Quebec makes tons of sense ofcourse. But this being the NHL you never know what their end game is. If there is a team in dire straights and a risk for relocation, they might want Quebec for the soft landing spot. Winnipeg didnt get a team because the NHL loved the idea. They got it because they played nice, did everything right, and allowed themselves be to used as leverage in PHX and a soft landing spot for Atlanta
  5. I believe a lot of ABC voters believe that it won't mean a new election, but that the Liberals and NDP would form a coilition and run things instead. Technically it's possible, but any attempts in the past to do so have failed (in my limited recollection). However I believe many people are convinced it will happen. I dont know... I have a sense that voters dont want a coalition. I dont think it plays well. I could be wrong and its a legitimate aspect to our system but I think its too easy to frame it as "the losers stole the election" type of narrative. Plus, one of the opposition (cant remember off hand) has said he's open to it and the other said not a chance. So someone ends up a liar. I think more likely, the opposition would grandstand about not supporting the government, make some back channel deals to get concessions from the Cons and then begrudgingly say they will vote for the budget or whatever other initiative until such time as enough time has passed or polls look better and then bring them down. Remember, the Cons have a lot of money. The opposition, not so much. They dont want another election.
  6. Creative isnt her strong suit and she was raised in a patriarchal family. WWE's creativity nose-dove under her term as VP. The role she has now is perfect for her because she's a good public speaker and good with everyone from fans to corporate execs. She's a "McMahon" so when she schmoozes its a representative of not just the BOD but the founding family. The Shane rumours are just idle speculation. Vince has said he's welcome back. But it was not a friendly parting when he left. If Vince died suddenly, the concern is that shareholder fear would knock the share price down a lot. There isnt much worry about what the BOD would do since its controlled by the family and voting shares are controlled by the family. Vince is giving Hunter a crash course in being a CEO with hopes he can step into the role. i'd suspect at some point, Hunter will take over more day to day and Vince will remain as Chairman so that when he does pass away, there isnt a big power vacuum. The other option is to appoint a "legitimate" CEO who would be respected in the business world and Wall Street while Hunter has, on paper, a lesser role but is essentially the boss (Steph would then become Chairperson I'd guess, giving her the power Hunter needs). The Shane talk is if Vince died tomorrow and there was share holder concern impacting the share price, Shane could be convinced to return as CEO to calm everyone down. Im not sure how Shane and Hunter could work together though. Hunter's problem is his lack of education and experience. Vince is giving him the education and Steph gives him the "name". If Vince can hang on for another 5-10 years, Hunter probably slides into that CEO role with a lot of very experienced lieutenants to calm any wall street jitters. Shane could still return. I *believe* he still owns WWE stock and would inheriet X amount of voting shares from Vince so he'd be in a position to want a seat at the table. Shane's problem is, he was lousy at creative. And that's WWE's bread & butter. Not sure Shane would come back and accept no say in creative. That's the fun stuff. But when Shane ran New Media, it was said his department was the best run and most relaxed with the highest morale in the company and his leaving broke a lot of hearts. Shane's positives were he was forward thinking and "cool". He pushed for more adult themes before the attitude era. He pushed for guys like jericho and Steiner to be brought in. He would often sit in the stands to watch RAW, wanting to be with the fans to feel their energy as they reacted to what was happening. The knock on Shane was he was always thinking of ideas for the top guys or the guys he was involved with but not everyone across the roster. He was always referred to as "one of the boys" though. He's probably closer to Eric Bischoff than Vince McMahon in temperament. He was strongly against Steph dating Hunter but they were very close growing up. Shane almost never comes up in news anymore. So who knows...
  7. Is Mulcair running out of steam? It was a good week for Stephen Harper and the Conservatives as the latest aggregate of polls gives them a 20-seat lead over the NDP. the Conservatives could pick up 126 seats – 20 more than the NDP, and 22 more than the Liberals. Both the Bloc Quebecois, and the Green Party, pick up one seat each. The Conservatives picked up 12 seats in the projections since last week, while the Liberals, and NDP, lost two and 11, respectively. And most of the Conservatives gains came from the NDP losses. “Clearly the NDP is slipping in some places more than others,” Barry Kay, a politics professor at Wilfrid Laurier University said in an interview Tuesday morning. The NDP, which started the campaign in first place, has dropped to third, and in terms of public opinion, had a bad week. The party lost six percentage points in Quebec, resulting in a Conservative gain of four seats in the province. The NDP also lost three percentage points in British Columbia, and one in Atlantic Canada. But the Conservative gain can’t just be attributed to a stumbling NDP, Kay said. The Tories also gained some seats in Ontario, including Brampton-North, Oakville, Glengarry, and London West. But even if the Conservatives win the election, they’re well off the roughly 170-seat target they’ll need to form a majority government, Kay said. “If [the Conservatives] come first, they will meet parliament and they will be defeated. Trudeau and Mulcair have said as much now that under no circumstances would they keep a minority conservative government in power,” Kay said. ***I understand why the opposition take the hardline approach because they want to sway those voters that might be turning away from the Cons but arent yet ready to go with Liberals or NDP. ie. people who might want a minority. They have to get those people to really commit to change. But I wonder if it could have the opposite effect. if the Cons continue to rise and you have the opposition saying "we will defeat this government immediately", will some of the undecided sway to the Cons to avoid another election? If you strongly say "Canadians dont want a long election", how can you also say "Canadians want another election immediately".
  8. The investment in a sports team is mostly in its value, not yearly revenue. You buy it for $500 Million, sell it for $750 million. That and / or a vanity type thing for rich owners with more money then they know what to do with. Here is a report where the bottom third of NHL teams don't even make a profit. Even the Jets only turned $3.3M (which isn't a lot when you think about how much a player makes). The Maple Leafs, Rangers, Canadian, etc of the NHL certainly bring in lots of money, but they are the exception. http://www.forbes.com/nhl-valuations/list/#page:1_sort:6_direction:asc_search: The Jets at $3.3 million profit and how much has the dollar sunk? There goes the profits. But True North didnt buy the Jets to roll around in the yearly profits off the Jets. Its everything else that comes along with it - increased revenue from MTSC, real estate developments, restaurant revenues etc.
  9. Vince is very stubborn. Kane is one of the few guys from the attitude era, so he gets a push. Just bizarre
  10. Where did I say they were important political voices? Remarks from Canadians watching the debate.
  11. Washington (CNN)Hillary Clinton would beat Donald Trump in a general election match-up if the election were held today, a new poll shows. Clinton beats Trump, 49% to 39%, head-to-head. She would be neck-and-neck with other GOP contenders -- including former tech CEO Carly Fiorina (45% to Clinton's 44%), retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson (46% to Clinton's 45%), former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (44% to Clinton's 45%). But if Vice President Joe Biden runs for president, he'd enter the race as the most popular presidential candidate, according to the NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey.
  12. New X-Files trailers Part I https://youtu.be/kteho5bgxLI Part II https://youtu.be/v1K0e2Juvf0 Looks awesome. And here's the trailer for The Revenant (Film), which has three things I love: 1) Period Piece 2) Based on a True Story 3) Leonardo Dicaprio https://youtu.be/LoebZZ8K5N0
  13. Uh oh @CTVNews: This or That?': NDP's Mulcair chooses Starbucks coffee over Tim Hortons http://t.co/Hhz7xt5qlh#elxn42 http://t.co/xaIin4oNsu
  14. @renlavoietva: Pierre Dion, Brian Mulroney and Benoit Robert are representing Quebecor in front of the NHL executive committee. #tvasports
  15. Havent finished watching it yet but read the recap online. Its funny because word was Vince was in "panic" mode after the last few ratings and his response was more Kane? The Corporate Kane/dual personalities thing is a fun little MID CARD angle (even if its a rip off of TNA). Putting Cena early and Roman/Bray in the main event when their program is really feeling like it's dragging is odd too. And again, another issue with WWE is there softening of face/heel alignments and making it confusing for fans. It makes no one over when you do that. Teasing issues with Orton/Ambrose. Paige comes out to a pop then teams with the faces, then turns. Bellas get more heat on the faces. Its just all backwards. heard there was even a "Russo" chant during the climactic Kane angle
  16. I think I heard that on the radio. Might have been funnier if it ended with them saying "needs to do something about that hair". The "nice hair" spots were pretty good. Just heard one on my drive into work. Its an interesting way to paint Trudeau since in some respects he's likeable, to simply say "maybe one day, but not yet". That about sums up my feelings on the Liberals. Trudeau defending his position on terrorism etc hit that home.
  17. Mulcair seems to be fading here. I didnt watch the debate but followed along somewhat online and saw a lot of remarks about Mulcair "standing off to the side" while Trudeau and Harper sparred. Im not sure what to make of that.
  18. Well as odd as I think those pairings are, it puts Buff into the top four. I figured he'd be the one flipping sides though. In Trouba's rookie season, they had Bogo switch sides rather than Trouba and its part of what contributed to Bogo's down year, playing his off side.
  19. Wonder what the cost breakdown was for buying the team? 50/50 between him and Mr. Thompson? Here's a look at the steepness of the upper deck. http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Quebec-Arena-Inside.jpg Hope there's no obstructed views Is the cut out on the left side for a lounge/club seats? That makes way more sense then ours being in the end zone area.
  20. I always assumed David Thomson wrote a cheque for the cost of the team. There were remarks by Chipman at the time that alluded to DT making contributions that without them would not have allowed the purchase price (or something to that affect). Perhaps his "stake" in True North was $170m. Big Show guys aired a piece by Bob Mackenzie pouring some cold water on Quebec expansion saying his "gut" was the NHL might only expand by one team and if so, Las Vegas was it. We know TSN has been the voice for the NHL at times (the entire Bring Back the Jets thing), so what do we make of this?

What I wrote was of the ref did truly forget then the player reminding him would seemingly solve the problem.
  22. Yeah who cares lol ofcourse it matters. Buff would be more likely to switch sides because he's done it before. I'd be worried about switching trouba. And trouba with chiarot switches both of them which makes little sense But I could be wrong
  23. Hilarious @BiomassDoug: He is way out of his league. Stomping his feet and interrupting just shows how childish he is. The true Trudeau. https://t.co/31jbG7qWQJ @Uranowski: Trudeau was fantastic tonight. He gave well informed, balanced, hopeful answers. He is ready to be PM. #MunkDebate #elxn42 People are entrenched. They see what they want. On both sides.
  24. You really think the officials would overturn a call because the team penalized said they didn't actually deserve a penalty? No. And that's not what I wrote.
