Not just personal success. The fact the right united and became majority for so long is on Harper. He's been great for this country. It will be a real shame if we go back to the Liberals or *shudder*, the NDP. Any talk of dissention is sort of proof as to why Harper liked to keep a united front and have control. It happens far too often and is pretty predictable in politics where there are party revolts

I guess Trudeau is the lesser of two evils between him and Mulcair. But man, he will be an embarrassing PM. Then again, Obama became President with little to no experience. So Trudeau winning based on his name and looks isnt far-fetched. I like Harper so I'd love to see another majority where Harper retires in 3 years and goes out on top. He's had a very successful career.

Im not sure about that. He probably had more value at the draft when teams had all summer to make moves. Now, the best window is the deadline. Unfortunately, that could be a very bad time for the Jets. If the Jets are on the bubble and keep Buff and lose him for nothing, that will be a huge knock against Chevy. This isnt Frolik. Chevy might have let his opportunity slip away. But with the cap, Buff might be valuable to a team wanting to make a run with limited commitments. Generally, even an expiring contract, the team taking him has an inside track. And Buff doesnt seem like a guy who wont be open to signing places. A long term commitment can scare teams away too. I do agree, if Buff signs for 4 years max at $6-$7, its probably doable. Then we flip him to LHD and hope he doesnt sulk.

Do you think some NDP supporters are backingn away fearing a Mulcair majority and moving to the liberals? I don't know, not really. Why would NDP supporters fear a NDP majority? That seems odd. There was talk a couple of weeks ago that as the NDP neared majority support, some supporters backed away. More specifically I should call them "Anti-Harper" or "Change" supporters.

So she was released with the caveat she must allow her deputies to continue issuing marriage licenses. Her lawyer wants an amendment to the licenses to remove her name. Why doesnt she just quit then? Oh right, she will do anything for her beliefs...except quit her job. lol And here's a quote from Presidential Candidate Mike "Nutjob" Huckabee Huckabee said he had a message for the judge who sent Davis to jail last week and ordered her release Tuesday. "If you have to put someone in jail, I volunteer to go. Let me go. Lock me up if you think that's how freedom is best served," Huckabee said. "Because folks, I am willing to spend the next eight years in the White House leading in this country. But I want you to know I'm willing to spend the next eight years in jail, but I'm not willing to spend the next years in tyranny under people who think they can take our freedom and conscience away." And this from Jefferey Toobin: Davis' supporters have tried to compare her to Rosa Parks, the Alabama seamstress who refused to follow local segregation laws mandating that African-Americans had to give up their seats to whites on public buses. Right era, wrong person. The real analogy is to George Wallace, who stood in the doorway of the University of Alabama in defiance of federal court orders mandating an end to official segregation. Like Wallace, Davis is a public official, and she has acted in defiance of modern interpretations of the Constitution. And like him, Davis, sooner rather than later, will be properly viewed as being on the wrong side of the law, of the public and of history.

That's the entire Conservative game plan. They have the most loyal base in terms of actually getting out and voting, they are hoping for a low turnout with their dedicated support carrying the day. Not sure it's going to work though, there are a lot of angry people out there. A lot of stupid people out there too. Not to belittle opinions. I can disagree with someone with a well thought out opinion. But there's A LOT of anti-Harper sentiment from people without a clue. Although many of them might not vote...so there's that.

Bryan married a WWE Diva Brie Bella with expensive tastes not to mention her sister Nikki dates John Cena who makes a ton of money. I don't know if that marriage can survive a 75% loss of income if Bryan can't wrestle anymore. Brie is the down to earth one. Not to mention she still works. And Bryan made a ton of money in WWE. If he leaves WWE, he's getting huge paydays in New Japan and ROH. He could survive and prosper on Indy dates alone for the next ten years. In WWE, the wrestlers have to pay their own road expenses (hotel, car, food). On the Indy scene, the promoter bears those costs and the talent also gets 100% (usually) of his merch. Some guys make more money the first couple of years out of WWE then they do in it. Good luck to Daniel then. I just hope the doctors who cleared him to wrestle have malpractice insurance. If I recall, the doctor who has cleared him is well respected. The issue is the WWE doctor who has come under suspicion by CM Punk. And that issue has impacted WWE in that they dont want to be looked at as clearing someone who shouldnt be. Its all a bit over-zealous in my opinion. Not that long ago, 60+ guys were working. Now they are hyper-sensitive, ever since Lawler had a heart attack that had nothing to do with his fitness to compete. Flair has said WWE cleared him for contact also. Sting had no issue whatsoever. Hogan wasnt cleared (supposedly). WWE is public now so I get it to a degree. Especially with broken down broke-ass jobbers suing them left and right. But thats a by-product of the NFL players getting a pay day over concussions. WWE will always be biased. Like why a guy who was well known as being straight edge (Punk) was routinely drug tested and how Hunter managed to never be tested and was huge into his 40's. Hunter seemed to quit the business as a wrestler pretty quickly. he can't be more than in his early 40's. Looks to be in terrific shape. Did he quit because of his continuing & evolving role with the WWE Board as well as overseeing developing the tv shows in NXT & WWE or was it health related? Gawd, I don't want to see Flair in a wrestling ring again. He's out of shape with a big gut, shrunken muscles, is too old & looks terrible. I want to remember The Nature Boy as he was in his prime with the long perfectly coifffed blonde hair & not the way he is now. Hunter did just wrestle at WrestleMania and looked okay during that match. However there are rumours that he has to wear adult diapers and it's not a good thing for a wrestler. Hunter is a good worker, dont get me wrong. He can be a very, very good worker. He's a great story-teller. Probably in a similar vein to Bret Hart. But him beating Sting tells you all you need to know about Hunter as a booker of his own programs. I actually think he's okay booking other people, just not himself. How they've handled Seth is another negative too. -

Hunter is 46. He moved out of the in-ring role because of his office duties. Vince took him under his wing and he needed to be in the office every day. Basically he has been getting a crash course in running a business. WWE has a big problem with succession planning right now because there isnt one, at least not publicly. And for a large publicly traded company, thats a concern. Some Wall Street analysts raised this issue not too long ago. Hunter was seen as the heir apparent but with no formal education and virtually no hands-on business experience, the idea he could end up as CEO is very scary to some. It could sink WWE stock. If Vince dies suddenly, stock will plummet anyway..and how they handle it could make it worse. What Hunter has going for him is he's now a McMahon and the kids seems to get a bit of a pass when taking over the family business. Some have speculated (including myself), that should Vince die or become sick, Shane might return to calm the waters. Shane is far more qualified than Hunter, at least on paper and would likely make share holders feel a bit better. Steph is essentially out of any major day to day role aside from obviously being at TV and PPV and having a voice in decisions. NXT is important for Hunter's image. And its why Vince is willing to fund it at a loss. It has a two-fold benefit in helping create new stars and helping give Hunter some "wins" for his resume. There is a sense of desperation or strong desire for NXT to succeed. Thats why they break a lot of their own rules when it comes to using older guys, guys from other promotions and guys with established identities. -

Iso - I had Bret booked for a big show here in Winnipeg at Shaw Park when he had the bike accident. Caused us a lot of grief. Bryan has said his career isnt over. Either WWE lets him wrestle or he will wrestle elsewhere when his deal is up. -

Angle's divorce itself wasn't so messy. It was that Jeff Jarett and Karen Angle began dating secretly. JJ was minority owner of TNA so Angle's boss. It led to a lot of bad feelings by many there. And led to JJ being ousted. Ofcourse he came back and worked a program with Kurt and they are all friendly now. Kurt can still go. Part of his problem was his desire to always give max effort and it just wore his body down. WWE turned him down a couple of times. Most recently there was beat because Angle called Hunter who said he wasn't interested and Angle went over his head to Vince and Vince backed Hunter. In a side note, one of WWE's best angles was screwed by Hunter when Steph had the relationship with Kurt and everyone wanted her to dump Hunter and he mixed it. Cut Kurt's balls off. Vintage Hunter. -
The Jets' RFA's after this year.
The Unknown Poster replied to Ducky's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
When do we start worrying about next year's cap? A conscientious GM is worrying about next year's cap right now not next year. TUP, If you don't think there is any reason to worry, jot down what players would be playing and at what cost. See for yourself. I enjoy Cap discussions, but I dont care enough about the minutia of dollars and cents to spend that much time on it, especially without Capgeek to help me! If I have some time this week, Ill try to predict... Isnt Pavs expired after next season? Thats another contract that could be expendable. -

Yeah, other teams have $8 million guys. $10 million guys. Why we are worried about a couple of $6-$7 million guys...especially on a young team with a lot of $2 million guys...I think we can afford it. It depends what TN's internal cap is, morso than the NHL cap in my mind. The NHL cap doesnt impact just the Jets so if it goes down or stays static, market value will change and guys will have to take less. But I think part of the reason Ladd isnt signed yet is the forcasting Chipman said they do. They know they have Scheif, Lowry, Trouba coming up next year. Plus, they want wiggle room for other players if the Jets are in a winnable position. I think they get Ladd done and see whats left for Buff. Id say they wont over-pay but then again, they've signed long term deals with other players so they also arent afraid to do so. But to me, the loss of Buff for the next two years is worth not carrying and over-paid, under-performing Buff the for the 3-4 years after that. -

The problem with Ric Flair to a lot of fans is that, unless you bought WCW shows or had sattelite, we wrent exposed to his best stuff. And by the time we were, he wasnt the same in-ring performer he was in his prime. Or if you watch the DVD collections, the style of wrestling from the late 70's and 80's was a stark contrast to what we were used to in the attitude era. I followed Flair in the "Apter Mags" (the worked wrestling magazines run by Bill Apter) and was a fan before I ever saw him live. His promos were all world and he carried himself like a champion. He was the quintisential "World Champion". But where he worked (NWA and WCW) their booking was opposite to WWE's. WWE had the super-hero (Hogan) who never lost and was fed a diet of monsters to beat. Flair was a great worker who you hated by you respected his talent and knew he could beat guys fair and square but chose not to. He worked so many 60 minute and 90 minute matches, contrasting to Hogan working 10 minute matches and being gone before intermission. Flair was more realistic in his character. Hogan was the larger than life persona. Hogan never did jobs. Flair did lots of jobs and wore as a badge of pride his ability to help get other guys over. And the NWA business model was such that Flair was a traveling world champion that would come to town to work the local baby face and beat him by nefarious means, thus giving him the rub as being able to hang with the World Champion. And when he did finally get beat, it was a big deal. Not as big as Hogan losing because he lost so rarely but Hogan never made anyone else a star. Flair made Sting. Flair helped make the Von Erich's. Flair put Steamboat over. Flair made Windham. etc etc etc. And he could transition to sympathetic face so easily. I think it was 1988 when WCW was in trouble and Flair and Jim Ross took over the booking and Flair brought back Steamboat and Terry Funk to feud with going from a heel working great matches with Steamboat, transitioning to a face to work "extreme" matches with Funk, re-forming the 4 Horsemen with Sting as a member, turning on Sting and it was all a brilliant set up to make Sting's the new top guy....and Sting blew out his knee climbing a cage and it completely ruined the plans. And the 4 Horsemen really put the idea of an elite stable on the map. And it was such an organic thing. Flair occasionally teamed with the Anderson's. At one TV taping, to save time, they had Flair, Tully, Anderson's and JJ Dillon do a group promo. Arn Anderson put over the four of them as the best in the business and off the cuff referred to them as the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. And it was born right there. Brilliant. Could never happen today. But even as an older guy, he could tell a great story when motivated. His "retirement" match with Vader at Starrcade..incredible (was supposed to be Vader vs Sid but Sid got into the hotel room brawl with Arn where both ended up stabbed and he got fired). Or his match on RAW with Hunter for the World title when they were buddies and Hunter blew Flair off, causing him to "take the match seriously" was a thing of beauty where you actually thought Flair might win the World title from Hunter on an episode of RAW...just nuts. And ofcourse his match with HBK at WM was tremendous. Even when WCW gave him goofy stuff like being locked in an insane asylum with Scott Hall, he hit it out of the ball park. But I digress.... Kurt Angle, had he not had demons, would have stayed in WWE and be considered the greatest of all time right now, I bet. Just a masterful worker. Some would knock him for almost being "too" spot-heavy, doing incredible things rather than slowing it down and telling the story. But I loved his matches. A more athletic Bret Hart...though Bret was a bit better of the story teller. Angle just announced he is leaving TNA at the end of the year (TNA is probably leaving the world at the end of the year). WWE passed on Angle previously...which sucks. I hope he goes back. -

Without doing a lot of research myself, I see you adding several guys. Other guys will drop off. if Morrisey makes the team as a regular, it might mean no more Stuart. It likely certainly means no more Clitsome. The Blackhawks have two guys making over $10 million. We can make it work. I dont want to though....trade Buff is my preferred scenario. But as guys get added, others get deleted. -
I think Lowry is ahead of where they expected him. I think they ceiling'ed him out as, at best, a decent 3C, more probably a very good 4c and the fact he came into his rookie year and played himself into that 3C role is pretty remarkable and did a very good job of it. The expectation for Scheif is higher with him being the guy they want to be their franchise 1C as the years progress. I'd like to see steady progress from Scheif as far as offensive consistency goes. Im okay with a "good" year this season but he really will need to embrace that top offensive centre role soon.
