  2. If the idea is to start him, how does that work with the ratio? What changes will the Bombers have to make?
  3. @garylawless: Linebacker @simmons_jasper has contract in hand from @Wpg_BlueBombers and has agreed to terms. Bombers waiting on paperwork to announce #bn
  4. @308dotcom: CBC Poll Tracker updated: NDP 113-142 seats (34%), CPC 106-147 (29%), LPC 69-98 (27%), GPC 1 (6%), BQ 0 (4%). http://t.co/Gi8N6LsrQe
  5. (CNN)Ahead of his initial appearance in federal court Wednesday, former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle reached a plea agreement with prosecutors that would see him serve between five and 12½ years in prison for handling child pornography and having sex with a minor. The court will have to approve the agreement, in which Fogle pleads guilty to possessing and distributing child porn, and traveling across state lines to have sex with at least two teenage girls. Under the plea deal, the government agrees to recommend less than 13 years in prison for Fogle. Also, Fogle's lawyers agree to ask the judge for no less than a 5-year prison term.
  6. I understand MTSC was a much cheaper funding model but the point is that, assuming the public investment doesnt get out of hand, I see no problem with the government investing in these projects. Also, when the Jets left town, Winnipeg was essentially a black hole. Not saying the Jets leaving caused it but the 90's sucked in Winnipeg. The Jets left because there was no building and no owner. Realistically, just a quick glance at the Calgary proposal, I think the Flames should be paying a lot more. They have a billionaire owner. And its not just the sports buildings, but the fact that this will be a residential and commercial development. I presume the Flames' owners will be the developers. They stand to reap hundreds of millions of dollars in profit over the years. I think the government can invest but private development should be the main contributor to their own developments.
  7. If you're a Republican that doesnt like Trump, you should be afraid. Its pretty early though. If he maintains his support and polls high against Clinton as they get closer, then the Republicans have some serious decisions to make. They cant afford to have him run as a 3rd party candidate. I doubt he'd accept being the running mate of a more traditional Republican candidate. Im not sure if he'd be a disaster to be honest. He's a "brand" and part of that is his tough, blustery persona. But he has a lot of deals out there and is obviously successful. When he is working with other strong, wealthy, powerful people can he be a bombastic bully? Probably not. He's likely a tough negotiator but surely respectful and respected in making deals. I could see him having some success on the world stage for that reason. Though I could see him saying offensive things too. But if is serious, he will eventually add experts to his team that will be chief advisers on things like foreign affairs. There was a time when Ronald Reagan was considered a joke candidate too. He cut his teeth in California which probably alleviated some fears. Interestingly, he also flip flopped from the left to the right which is what some try to accuse Trump of doing.
  8. CNN Washington (CNN)Since announcing his campaign in late June, Donald Trump has quickly leapt to the top of the Republican field, leading recent polls nationally, in Iowa and in New Hampshire. And now, for the first time in CNN/ORC polling, his gains among the Republican Party have boosted him enough to be competitive in the general election. The poll finds Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton ahead of Trump by just 6 points, a dramatic tightening since July.
  9. I agree. I'd like Stemp. He'd be a good 4th line guy who can fill in higher when needed. Im actually surprised we didnt re-sign him as the Jets had interest dating back to last summer and Stemp even admitted it came down to New York or Winnipeg. So if those were the only two interested teams last summer and he's still not signed, you'd assume he isnt getting a lot of interest. Jets would seem to be a good fit for him. Plenty of youth for him to take on a leadership role and looking at the depth he should see himself as likely to get opportunities higher up since every team has injuries or illness at some point.
  10. @AP: BREAKING: Feds: Ex-Subway pitchman agrees to plead guilty to child pornography, sex-with-minors charges. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/08/19/jared-fogle-court/31979091/ INDIANAPOLIS — Former Subway restaurant pitchman Jared Fogle will appear before a federal magistrate judge at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Indianapolis. Wearing a black suit and tie, with a stone-faced expression, Fogle was surrounded by attorneys and U.S. marshals as he walked into a second-floor court chamber. Federal prosecutors have released documents accusing Fogle of engaging in sex acts with minors and receiving child pornography, the Associated Press reported. Documents released Wednesday by the U.S. attorney's office in Indianapolis say the 37-year-old Fogle faces one count of travel to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor and one count of distribution and receipt of child pornography. On Tuesday, WREG-TV, citing unidentified sources, said Fogle was expected to plead guilty to charges related to an investigation into possession of child pornography.
  11. Sort of indicates the shift on the 4th line across the league where teams want more skill in that position. And it's been an achilles for the Jets since they arrived here. I think those questioning depth are correct in that the Jets look okay on paper but a couple of injuries and we're in touch. Tlusty or Stemp for bottom six depth would be nice. I suspect they are holding out for a better role but it might be the nature of things now that a mid-six guy without offensive flair sort of falls into the bottom six on teams looking for more skill.
  12. That's right. Some, he assumes, are good people. Probably a safe assumption. But let's not forget that "illegal" immigrants are, by definition, acting counter to the law. One could make an argument that by the letter of the constitution, Obama is not eligible to be President. If Arnold was younger, perhaps he'd make his case to be permitted to do so. But his marriage scandal and his age probably soured him on it. Had he remained married, a popular Republican who is also a Kennedy? Could have been an intriguing campaign.
  13. Aaaaaannnnd she's gone... http://www.winnipegsun.com/2015/08/18/calgary-liberal-candidate-apologizes-for-distasteful-tweets Good. I can understand being young and stupid but young and stupid shouldnt be running for public office although that is essentially Trudeau's platform lol Good for her for taking a bullet for her party. Im sure she was "encouraged" to step down. I know there was some social media chatter yesterday about how the mainstream media was making a bigger deal out of the Conservative "protester" than the Liberal candidate. It seems the NDP arent even running a candidate in my area. I suspect they realised they didnt stand much of a chance and didnt want to siphon votes from the Liberals.
  14. The people against any public money going to sports facilities are the cranky pot hole Brigade. They think if the money isn't spent on sports it will be spent to fill the holes on their street. Lots of people against MTSC too which paid back its public investment years early. Good luck to Calgary. Gonna be a hard sell.
  15. As much as I like Slater, when he was our 3C we were in trouble.
  16. Yeah but some more than others. More so the left.
  17. You're being selective if you think Trump has only categorized illegal immigrants as criminals.

  19. That's a bit anal.
  20. Good God. Don't be so dense. It was remark about centre depth. He gets called up to replace injured 4C. If You want an in depth discussion about Patrice Cormier go Elsewhere.

  22. Its easy to follow the mainstream media lead of "he's a racist blowhard that hates women". Since neither of us know him, you have to dig a little deeper. I've not seen anything yet that would tell me he either hates women or minorities. I think he's politically incorrect. I think he's certainly misogynistic to a degree. I doubt he hates women but he sees himself as the "breadwinner". I think his comments about immigrants being rapists was not politically correct but surely illegal immigrants do commit rapes. Legal immigrants probably do too. We know naturally born Americans commit rapes also. His point was that there is likely a significant criminal aspect to the illegal immigrant population. I dont know if that is true. I dont really care enough to research it. But it sounds reasonable. And really, why should people, especially from a highly criminalized nation like Mexico, simply stream across the border whenever they feel like it? It isnt about a minority stealing a job...its about the legality of it and the inequality of it. Its too early for me to say if I'd vote for Trump if I could vote in the US. But he's not crazy and he speaks for a large segment of the population right now. It will be interesting to see if that continues. And someone mentioned Arnold. I agree wholeheartedly. Even if you dont support Arnold, it's absolutely ridiculous that he is not allowed to run for President. I understand the reason for that rule, but there should be exceptions made for exceptional Americans. And like him or not, he's a pretty exceptional American. I dont think you'd have to worry about him turning treasonous if he was President. On another hand, Jesse Ventura has said he'd consider being Trump's running mate.
  23. Yup. Journeyman AHL'er who fills in nicely on the 4th everytime he's been called up. Is playing 3-4 minutes a night "filling in nicely"?? Lol. On the Jets 4th line it is. Im not going to go back and do a forensic accounting of Cormier's shifts every time he was called up but I do recall the general public and media feeling being that he was playing well when called upon.
