  1. It depends how the cash is broken down too. If Im the Jets I front load it as much as possible. Sure, the cap hit stays constant, but like Myers, the team will see a significant cash savings in later years when the cap will surely rise giving the team more money to spend. Ladd is generally under-rated. I'd prefer $44M-$46M on 7 years but if it takes $7 per, so be it. He's the Captain. He's also the type of player that will likely contribute as he ages. If he ages out as a contributed 3rd LW who sets an example and his cash per year is much lower compared to the cap hit, then it's probably a win. And if the idea is to trade Buff, Im all for it as long as we get a significant return. I would suspect the Jets would be looking at a mid-six winger, depth D and significant prospect. Something to help now and something to help later.
  2. Lol! Is he a politician?? Or just an angry old guy? That was too funny. Angry old guy.
  3. Then how did this happen? David Lewis was a secular Jew, just learned he was born in Russia, and arrived in Canada speaking only Yiddish. "David Lewis, CC QC (born David Losz; June 23, or October 1909 – May 23, 1981) was a Russian-born Canadian labour lawyer and social democratic politician. He was national secretary of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) from 1936 to 1950, and one of the key architects of the New Democratic Party (NDP) in 1961. In 1962, he was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP), in theCanadian House of Commons, for the York South electoral district. While an MP, he was elected the NDP's national leader, and served from 1971 until 1975." probably lots of other stuff to post about this, but won't do it right now. As far as anti semites go, you can probably find them anywhere including all three political parties. They all have their share of bigots no doubt. Certainly they do as they are made up of people like you and me and others and in any group you will have bigots. But without doing an intensive investigation, the remarks I've seen from candidates, there are a significant number of NDP candidates that are very bigoted.
  4. http://www.politifact.com/punditfact/statements/2014/dec/02/peter-morici/economist-immigrants-have-taken-all-new-jobs-creat/ Professor Morici is not Left or right wing. article analyzes his position says he's wrong. beats me whose right. The American chamber of commerce loves granting rights to illegal immigrants. Talks only about jobs created, what kinds of jobs were created? Did someone open up a bunch of new fast food joints and the illegals worked there when regular americans didn't want to? I will repeat, until these illegals are taking jobs that aren't menial labour or shitty min wage jobs it's all just an excuse for people not earning as much as they'd like. I think you'd have to back that statement up. How can you say that illegal immigrants are taking jobs American's dont want? How many illegals work for less than minimum wage? If your boss replaced you with an illegal working under the table for half the wage, would you say "hey, ill keep that job" or would you refuse and get accused of not wanting to do it? We're all immigrants. But you cant have let people stream into the country illegally whenever they please. It has to be done within a reasonable balance. Trump is correct about that. Also, Trump is two years older than Hilary and younger than both Bush and Regan when they were president. Age isnt really a factor until you get into the nittygritty and begin talking about the quality of the VP and him being "a heartbeat away".
  5. Trying to stop illegal aliens is one thing, calling them all a bunch of drug lords and rapists is quite another though. Sure he can be obnoxious. And a lot of rhetoric. But why issue do you have with his plan? You don't see a difference between "I want to stop illegal immgration because it's a drain on the system" and "I want to keep this criminal scum out of our country"? That makes all the difference in the world to me. One person is a sensationalistic bigot, the other is simply trying to enact sensible strategies. He was very clear in wanting to fast track legal entry for law-abiding immigrants who contributed to the country in a positive way. Not to split hairs but every single immigrant who enters America illegally is technically a criminal. Im not saying he isnt overly bombastic in his verbiage but the thing is, you know what Donald Trump thinks. Do you know what any of the other candidates think when they speak in politically correct platitudes?

  7. Then he's the only person in Manitoba that doesnt know who *should* start at least, barring a miracle recovery by Willy.
  8. The Cons had to apologize on his behalf. What a knob. I dont think the Duffy trial resonates with the average Canadian but this kind of thing will.
  9. Isnt that the job of the agent? When all else fails, to be the lightening rod? If the agent looks like an ass, so be it. I guess its nice to have a top quality starting player as a back up but I can understand the position that if Im good enough to play but you dont play me, then trade me. if I have value, get something for me, If you cant use me, let me play. If he was an NHL player making a guaranteed $3m then hard to feel too bad. But if he was an NHL player, he'd either be playing or he'd be traded to get something of return. Starting players arent stockpiled in case of injury.
  10. Here's a wonderful representative of the Cons @CBCNews: WARNING: Explicit language Harper supporter hurls profanity at reporters for Duffy questions http://t.co/BNSzPf1s4p https://t.co/ACtpFUWqAm What an idiot.
  11. You know them. Millions upon millions of average people in North America. He's leading in the polls. What do you take issue with? He's tough on immigration which it seems the majority of American's agree with. He's tough on Iran which most Americans agree with and even many of Obama's own Democrats. He's flat out admitted that politicians can be bought and explained that he has donated to many politicians of both parties because when he calls, they answer. I think his immigration plan is interesting. Most people are conditioned to think a wall is bad. They prefer to call it a fence. Sounds nicer. The point is the same - keep illegals out. If people want to enter the US, they should do so legally. The issue of the Dreamers is a tough one but Im not sure I can really fault the idea that if you came here illegally and had a child with the intent of using the citizenship of that child to stay, that you should by-pass the law. Illegals working off the books is, I would presume, an issue for lower-income Americans and impacts the economy. Im no expert but his plan clearly speaks to a lot of people and I dont find it particularly zany or racist.
  12. Yup. Journeyman AHL'er who fills in nicely on the 4th everytime he's been called up.
  13. Google Tom Lukiwski, MP and current Parliamentary Secretary then consider this a case of the pot calling the kettle black. That said, each party is going to have candidates with a few skeletons in their closets .. you'd hope that the people vetting these individuals would do a more thorough job and ensure they are fit to represent the values of their constituents and Canada as a whole. Im not saying its a Liberal problem. Just saying. Probably more a NDP problem actually as their candidates have been saying some goofy things. But the anti-Semitic nature of the NDP doesnt seem so much a nut job position as a general NDP one. The comment from the Liberal candidate is just foolish if you want to be an elected official in Canada and she certainly seems like a miserable human being.
  14. I think its more speculation that the Jets see Copp as the 4C since they have no re-signed Slater. Burmi is also a Center though. Cormier too. So there is *some* lower end Center depth.
  15. Here's a good example from the Liberals as to why party leaders want to strictly control the message. What a dispicable candidate https://bcblue.wordpress.com/2015/08/18/liberal-candidate-wished-israel-supporter-had-been-aborted-with-coat-hanger/
  16. There is no reasonable argument against the idea a rookie who isnt an elite franchise player needs time to develop to the pro game. One can nitpick the wording but its always been true. And its always been doubly true for smaller players. Many, many players have discussed the difference between junior and pro, even the difference between the AHL and NHL and the speed of the game and how quick players move, how hard they hit etc. Its possible Petan is a natural. But its more likely he benefits from playing in the AHL. I'd rather he over-perform in the AHL then under-perform in the NHL. The good thing is, the Jets seemed to see the change coming where smaller players were going to have the opportunity to excel in the NHL. Regarding size, didnt Morrissey say he put on size in the wrong way and it hurt him? Why he looked so good last year and not as good this year? Im sure it was him I heard an interview with where he said he tried to put on size on his own and basically just tried to get big fast. Wheras this year the players are being trained by the Jets' expert on how to put on weight correctly. I think it was Ehlers who said he is putting on mass in a way to not negatively impact his skills. Here's hoping.
  17. This part is a cheap political move. The term kangaroo court comes to mind. Not really. I mean, I can see the argument that the tools within the justice system should be used to decide parole but the fact is, this puts the onus on elected officials to make decisions and be answerable to the public. In 35 years it could be a Conservative, Liberal, NDP or whatever government so it's not partisan. We could go further and elect judges. Im actually sort of on the side of rehabilitation in some cases. The Vince Li case is a tough one. But its a concrete position to take for a party to say "this is where we stand on justice". And I dont think its a wishy washy position. Dropping the GST by a point is a political move. This is a concrete position that will gain traction with X amount of people and, honestly, there will be people who whole heartedly disagree. Sure, its difficult for an opposition leader to argue against life sentences being life sentences. But thats sort of the point. If I was against it, I'd be supporting of my party making a reasonable argument in favour of rehabilitation. These are the kinds of concrete policy announcements every party should make. Its simple for the public to understand and take a position on. And I doubt Harper is saying the opposite in french.
  18. http://news.nationalpost.com/full-comment/tasha-kheiriddin-with-his-new-life-means-life-bill-harper-has-found-his-wedge Life means life. Vote Conservative. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced that that the government will introduce legislation to keep criminals “too cruel and dangerous to be put back into freedom” locked up permanently, with no possibility of parole. “… our hope is always for permanent rehabilitation, but there are some of the most dangerous and violent offenders whose actions mean we cannot risk putting them back on our streets.” But he also broadened the scope of criminals to those convicted of high treason. That would encompass terrorist-related offences, tying the proposed law into the current debate over combating jihadism — and Canadians’ fear that they are less safe today than they were two years ago. ...it’s hard to imagine NDP leader Thomas Mulcair or Liberal leader Justin Trudeau going to bat for the Schoenberns or Lis of the world. To insulate themselves further from criticism, the Tories have included a very faint hope clause in the new law, one unlikely to ever be applied. After 35 years behind bars, a criminal serving a “life is life” sentence can petition the public safety minister to let him or her out. The decision will not rest with a parole board, but with Cabinet, persons “fully accountable to their fellow citizens,” in the Prime Minister`s words — and persons who would never take the political risk of freeing a dangerous criminal who might reoffend.
  19. NHL.com WINNIPEG -- Solid scouting and player development are the two pillars on which the Winnipeg Jets are building their organization. After inheriting a farm system bereft of talent in 2011, general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff has rebuilt the prospect base slowly and methodically. "I don't want to see [Cheveldayoff] change the organization's draft-and-develop approach," Jets coach Paul Maurice told Jets TV on July 3. "I like the young players we've got. We're building something here." Here is a look at the Jets' top five prospects, according to NHL.com: 1. Connor Hellebuyck, G How acquired: 5th round (No. 130), 2012 NHL Draft Last season: St. John's, AHL: 58 GP, 28-22-5, 2.58 GAA, .921 save percentage Hellebuyck, 22, has risen quickly from a fifth-round draft pick who was viewed as something of a project to a potential long-term answer in goal. With two seasons of NCAA experience, Hellebuyck (6-foot-4, 185 pounds) adapted quickly to the American Hockey League. He was the starting goaltender at the 2015 AHL All-Star Classic. After his first pro season ended, Hellebuyck represented the United States at the World Championship and helped the U.S. team win finish third. Hellebuyck might need one more season in the AHL to fine-tune his game, but it would not be surprising if he pushes his way into the Jets' goaltending picture this season. Projected NHL arrival: 2016-17 2. Nikolaj Ehlers, LW How acquired: 1st round (No. 9), 2014 NHL Draft Last season: Halifax, QMJHL: 51 GP, 37-64-101 The Jets have been very public about their desire to not rush prospects, but they really could use Ehlers in their lineup this season to help offset the losses of several veterans. Ehlers, 19, dominated offensively with Halifax last season and led the QMJHL in playoff scoring with 10 goals and 21 assists in 14 games. However, in order to earn an NHL roster spot, Ehlers will need to prove he can be a dependable two-way player and responsible away from the puck. Ehlers (6-foot, 168 pounds) will need to bulk up in order to handle the NHL. He has made adding muscle and size a priority this summer but will need time to adjust to a bigger frame. "I can improve on everything," Ehlers said in July at Jets prospects camp. "It's going to be tough coming here and trying to get that spot on the team. I want to make the team this [season]." Projected NHL arrival: 2015-16 3. Joshua Morrissey, D How acquired: 1st round (No. 13), 2013 NHL Draft Last season: Prince Albert/Kelowna, WHL: 47 GP, 13-25-38 Winnipeg has potential openings on the left side of its blue line. But in an ideal situation for the Jets, Morrissey (6-foot, 195 pounds) should be able to use his first full AHL season to adjust his puck-moving style to the pro game. Morrissey won a gold medal with Canada at the World Junior Championship and Kelowna went to the Memorial Cup final. "It was a whirlwind of a season," the 20-year-old said. "My conditioning is a lot better now. I'm really committed to my diet. Overall I think it was a great [season] for me." Projected NHL arrival: 2016-17 4. Andrew Copp, C How acquired: 4th round (No. 104), 2013 NHL Draft Last season: Michigan: 36 GP, 14-17-31 Much like goaltending, the fourth line has been a long-time issue for the Jets. But Copp, 21, could be a solution. He appears much larger than his listed size (6-foot, 188 pounds) and is capable of playing the sort of grinding, defensively responsible style that helped another young player, Adam Lowry, earn a roster spot last season. "I'm trying to not worry about that too much," Copp said. "I'm just doing the best I can to put myself in a position to make the team out of camp." Projected NHL arrival: 2015-16 5. Joel Armia, RW How acquired: Trade with Buffalo Sabres, Feb. 11, 2015 Last season: Sabres, 1 GP, 0-0-0; Rochester/St. John's, AHL: 55 GP, 12-21-33 Armia is 22 years old and has NHL-caliber size (6-foot-3, 192 pounds). After the 2013-14 season, when he scored seven goals as an AHL rookie, he had 10 goals in 33 games with Rochester before the trade. After the trade, he scored two goals in 21 games with St. John's. Armia, who was part of the trade that sent forward Evander Kane to Buffalo, was the 16th pick in the 2011 NHL Draft. Projected NHL arrival: 2016-17
  20. Theres really no downside to Petan playing for the Moose. Its good for his development, its good for the Moose team and its good for fans who get to see a talented player. If he is lights out in the AHL, he will get his chance with the Jets.
  21. Lol that's like quoting the Sun on a Trudeau article. NYT openly leans to the left. You can't trust any media.....ever. T.v., radio, print, all garbage. All have an angle and use propaganda to sway people and social engineer. You could look at ten articles on the same story and still not know the truth. Too many outlets owned by too few corporations Thats very true.
  22. I agree. Mercer gives it both sides, when they deserve it, while those 22 Minutes boneheads are just plain idiots. It's lucky they have the CBC to call home to spread their leftist garbage. I am no Rob Ford fan but that complete psychopath leftist Mary Walsh was just plain awful when she dressed up as that warrior thing and harassed him at his house. I could only imagine the cries of outrage from the loony left if Ezra Levant dressed up in some warrior costume and harassed a nutbar like Linda McQuaig at her home. And yet he probably should, Ezra I mean! lol Although Ezra seems to be trying to keep a less-crazy profile lately. Reading some comments by NDP candidates and its pretty surprising how bigoted and anti-industry they can be. Im sure all the parties have some nutjob candidates but the NDP seem to attract anti-Isreal ones a lot. Perhaps Mulcair should offer to broker peace with ISIS and fly over there for an in-person meeting. What could possibly go wrong?
  23. @icemancometh: Ducks sign veteran forward Mike Santorelli to one-year contract worth $875,000.
