@AnaheimDucks: BREAKING: #NHLDucks sign Mike Santorelli to a one-year contract: http://t.co/TVvX0LkJWHhttp://t.co/qEz6KTAB8G Depending on cash, that's a very good signing.

Cant see Lemieux or Petan making the team. Petan can play for the Moose (and will be good for Moose ticket sales). What's Brendan's eligibility?

I'd be surprised if Burmi was a lesser player than when he was here. The fact he came to Winnipeg early and planned to be here all summer training also is a good sign. He's young. His speed and endurance should not be an issue. And Im sure he's got the Paul Maurice "fitness" talk so he will be in great shape. If anything, he will have more opportunity to flaunt his offensive awareness under Maurice. If he can do that while maintaining his defensive awareness and puck control, he will be a better player. This is also a better team than the one Burmi left. He wont be replied upon as much and the leadership wont let him slide. Pencilling him in as 3RW (or 3LW) seems reasonable. And even though people talk like Ehlers needs to be a top six guy, I think him with Lowry and Burmi could be tremendous. A line that wont "need" to always be an offensive threat. You've got a very smart, tough player in Lowry, puck-possession & good playmaker in Burmi and elite-potential offense in Ehlers. Could be really good. Could also flop. Who knows. I think its possible the Jets sign another winger before the season begins or they might wait to see how things shake loose. Depth is an issue but its difficult to fill roles when you're also trying to make room for prospects. if Ehlers makes the team: Ladd-Little-Stafford Perreault-Scheif-Wheeler Ehlers-Lowry-Burmi Thats not a bad top nine at all. And then whats our bottom 3 (plus depth)? Halischuk-Copp-Thorburn Thats a decent 4th line. Depth is a concern, for sure. But this team is right in that transition.

Jets Remove Scoreboard

Saw someone comment that TN is making a major 20,000 square foot addition to the Iceplex with separate offices for Jets & Moose. -
What a silly post. Sure, Ladd, Wheeler, Buff, Myers, Pavs might all get hurt in Game One. Let's get extreme about the negativity. DIdnt Ladd have a broken rib? Im not sure that's an injury caused because his style caught up with him. No reason to think he wont get hurt either. Which three free agents did Chevy let walk before we have replacements? Frolik? Didnt want to be here. Tlusty? Stemp? Both still free agents, both role players. What experience does this team have? Couple cups for Ladd and Buff. Frolik when he was here. I dont want to be overly positive. I've said I think they will miss the playoffs. But man...this is just a half-empty type of post.

U.S. Federal Election

From CNN, Trump outlines Immigration plan. This is interesting because it's really the major issue that he's embraced that has seen him surge ahead of his competitors. Trump's immigration plan is based on three core principles: that the U.S. must build a wall across the U.S.-Mexico border, that immigration laws must be fully enforced and that "any immigration plan must improve jobs, wages and security for all Americans." Trump calls for requiring a nationwide system to verify workers' legal status, tripling the number of immigrations and customs enforcement agents and implementing a tracking system to identify people who overstay their visas. But Trump's plans take a hardline approach in his vow to reverse a U.S. law that grants American citizenship to any child born in the United States, regardless of whether the child's parents are undocumented immigrants. He also calls for suspending the issuance of any new green cards, writing, "there will be a pause where employers will have to hire from the domestic pool of unemployed immigrant and native workers." "The executive order gets rescinded," Trump said Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," of President Barack Obama's executive order allowing dreamers to remain in the U.S. "We have to keep the families together, but they have to go," he told NBC. If Mexico refuses to pay for the wall, a Trump administration would begin charging additional fees to Mexicans who come into the U.S. on visas or with border crossing cars -- particularly for visas to "Mexican CEOs and diplomats," which Trump would cancel "if necessary." Trump's plan also calls for possible tariffs and foreign aid cuts and would seize "all remittance payments derived from illegal wages." -
Ladd was also very hurt. He took a lot of flak (from me too) but in retrospect him playing as hurt as he was was rather heroic and we had little chance with our injuries...and yet *did* have a chance. I thought Schief started off well but really got off his game by Kesler. But its one of those things where he will learn from it. The one thing is, I would have hoped we had enough leadership on our team to sort of overcome some of that. Where was the leadership to settle Scheif down and give him guidance? Maybe they did...maybe he just wasnt up to the challenge. Hopefully we can improve our bottom six enough where our top six isnt playing more than needed. Ideally, we'd be well into a playoff spot and not playing "playoff hockey" for the last six weeks of the season. Dont underestimate a full season of Stafford and Myers.

Sort of makes me sick that Im *almost* interested in the Jays. lol The only baseball game I ever watched from start to finish (aside from attending a couple of Goldeyes games) was the Jays winning their second World Series.

Can't believe we are still on the trade Toby talk. I'm nkt against trading any one if its to the benefit of the team. But Toby is arguably our best D man. Myers and Trouba enter the discussion. But toby is a legit top pairing D man and our only legitimate LHD.

Interesting perspective on Pierre Trudeau and the disaster of his time as PM http://www.nationalpost.com/m/wp/blog.html?b=news.nationalpost.com%2F%2Ffull-comment%2Fdavid-frum-the-disastrous-legacy-of-pierre-trudeau

Does Harper still deserve respect even if you don't respect him as a human being? The position of Prime Minister always deserves respect.
-
@acoyne: New Leger poll (Aug 10-12) has Tories third: NDP 33 Libs 28 Cons 27 http://t.co/cqx6apA15t
-
The posts were framed as "Harper!!!!!!" So I think it was more about him. And one reply was imploring people to "get this man out!!!" But again "his highness" is a good example. How dare the PM have a protected motorcade. Remember when someone tried to kill Cretien? Guess they shouldn't have increased security.
-
Nope. I read the posts. Anti-Harper nonsense. Like the PM shouldn't be in a protected motorcade. It's people like that that reinforces why the PM should be in a motorcade and the RCMP should be holding traffic. If Mulcair was PM Id feel the same way. The position deserves respect even if you don't like the person holding the position. I was reading about the PM's residence and what a shithole it is but no one wants to be the PM when they spend $10m on it which it desperately needs. Doesn't matter who is PM, these things should be given the respect they deserve. Personally Id think it was pretty cool if I saw the motorcade pass by.
-
Just saw a post making the rounds on FB about how that no good Harper is making people wait 15 minutes on the trans canada highway while his motorcade passes. I guess the PM should just hop in a Buick or maybe a greyhound. That's a good example of people's biases causing them outrage.

Who should we bring in to replace our OC
The Unknown Poster replied to SPuDS's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Khari as OC would probably get a lot of rope from the fans before they turned on him. -

I'm pretty sure Wednesday night was amateur night. But usually a few pros would enter to try and win whatever the prize was. I remember thinking the best girls did not get to the finals and someone explained that the best girls were pros and the average girls were amateurs but because the amateurs usually had lots of friends there, they'd advance. Saw an "amateur" wet t-shirt contest at the palladium once with two pros and one amateur and the average girl (amateur) won for the same reason. Judged by crowd approval. I actually have that one on video. -
I don't blame him for being a control freak. He knew the importance of the party having one message. I don't really blame any politician for not giving in to the whims of a lot of stupid media. There's plenty of ways to see what the party's stand for. I don't feel any party seems secretive. Sometimes the media really are morons.
-
Yeah media is so biased which would be okay if there was equal biased media but there isn't. I follow both sides but you hope people are engaged enough to do their own research and make thoughtful voting decisions.

I've been saying for a year that the Jets would be more likely to miss the playoffs this year than make. The unknown aspect is how much better they will be with a full season of Stafford and Myers. As well whether Ehlers makes the team and what kind of impact he has. I expect Scheif and Lowry to be better but not dramatically so. But both might end up with water regular line mates (Stafford and Burmi). I expect the 4th line to be better over all. Which should help the 2nd and 3rd lines a bit. Because the Jets are streaky they can make the playoffs by eliminating those streaks of losses and poor play and if they can be more consistent they can win. We should be able to win a few more 2-1 games with a better Trouba and a full season of Myers. I expect them to neither bomb or excell but be another bubble year.

Used to go to the Marion Thursday night after work when I worked at Wilmar Windows. It was always empty and the strippers would come over and dance just for us. -
I generally agree that people who express a profound fear of any government is off base. It happened with the Cons too. But I don't think a majority NDP government would try to fly under the radar. I think they have a very strong sense that they need to "save" the world and will implement as many policies as possible. And if they win a majority then you can't really blame them. That's the point of an election. If enough people want random "change" vote left then we get the government we deserve.
-
I can't tell if you're being serious. Ofcourse I'm being serious. It's not the rule, as I said. There are arrogant ignorant conservatives and there are very intelligent pleasently New Democrats. But the majority of political statements I see, the left feels they are the torch bearers of right and wrong. The right feels there are two opinions but there's is better. When Sun News wanted a TV network you had lefty's trying to convince the CRTC to disallow it on the grounds Canadians shouldn't hear or see a conservative perspective, free speech be damned.

I agree. The condition of the military is a disgrace.
