  1. Easy for you to say but how do you justify that when you are the Blackhawks and this controversy is still raging while you happily line him up on your first line on opening day? There's going to be a lot of pissed off people if they do that. He has high priced lawyers. They should force the DA to either charge him or announce the investigation is over with no charges pending. It really shouldnt take much longer if the evidence is strong. From rumors/speculation: - Victim immediately called a relative to report what happened - Victim was immediately distraught - Victim immediately sought medical attention & rape kit - Physical evidence was apparent including bites and scratches - Physical evidence was apparently captured (presumably from rape kit), awaiting forensic analysis If the DNA matches Kane and the victim isnt batshit crazy, he will likely be charged. I wouldnt necessarily suspend him now because there is the chance that a) he wont be charged the accuser is nuts. However, he should be suspended when/if charged. If the cloud is hanging over him, uncharged, by the time training camp rolls around, they have to make a decision. It will be a huge distraction if he's there. I would strongly suspect the team and NHL is well aware of the strength of the evidence at this point. The fact he hasnt been charged yet might mean the evidence isnt exceptionally strong or the police/DA is being particularly careful in having their ducks in a row. Knowing Kane has been in trouble before, let's assume he immediately lawyer'ed up and did not speak to the police. That hampers their investigation a little bit. They might simply be going through the proper and routine steps. Shouldnt be long, either way, at this point.
  2. Who is our new 3rd stringer?
  3. Sports Illustrated ✔ @SInow The Blackhawks may have little choice but to suspend Patrick Kane http://on.si.com/1EnvthG Snippets: Writing in Wednesday's Chicago Tribune, David Haugh argued that Kane’s uncertain legal status puts the Hawks in an impossible position. With training camp less than six weeks away and the justice system moving at its own deliberate pace, the team may be forced to suspend the star winger. “In the post-Ray Rice era of professional sports, a first-class franchise such as the Hawks cannot allow a player facing serious allegations to represent it until more clarity about the case exists,” Haugh wrote. Of course there’s a counter-argument to be made that the player deserves the presumption of innocence until proven guilty and that supporting him is both the ethical and moral stance for the organization to take. That’s the position the Colorado Avalanche took back in 2013 when their starting goaltender Semyon Varlamov was arrested on domestic violence charges. But in the wake of the Rice assault incident in 2014, the rising outcry against domestic violence and how it is handled by teams, leagues, colleges and other sports organizations left the Los Angeles Kings with little wiggle room when Slava Voynov was arrested on charges of domestic violence in October of that year. The situation with Kane is murkier because he has yet to be charged with a criminal offense and it’s entirely possible that he never will be. But taking the Varlamov approach once camp and the season roll around could be a no-win for the Hawks. Allowing Kane to participate in team activities will likely create a distraction that could disrupt camp and the total focus the Blackhawks will need to mount a credible Cup defense. More important, they’d be sending a terrible message about the integrity of the standards that have been set by the organization. On Wednesday afternoon, EA SPORTS announced that Kane "will no longer be involved as a spokesperson for the launch of...NHL 16." For Kane, hockey should be the least of his concerns at the moment. He’s better served by focusing on not just this matter, but on the way he wants to lead his life moving forward. His history of unfortunate off-ice incidents is not making any of this easier for him or his team to handle.
  4. Good news. What could possibly go wrong?
  5. Toronto at #2 and Jets at #6 is absurd.
  6. Which is smart. He seems like a nice guy. He handled his firing well and has done well for himself. Probably first in line for SK HC job. Maybe one here too if it's available. Didnt we have two shots at Khari previously?
  7. I pushed the idea of Reynolds as the new James Kirk before they cast Chris Pine. Pine is a better Kirk, but Reynolds would have been good too. Probably too tall. There's no reason Reynold's cant be up for every gig Chris Pratt is up for. Pratt is the golden boy right now but Reynolds is probably a better actor.
  8. I like Marcel but even I get this now. If they can Marcel at seasons end, I'd hope we talk to Khari and Lapolice. If they can him mid-season, I'd hope they talk to Lapo. Ofcourse, why would Lapo quit TSN mid-season for that? Especially when he's likely to get a shot at the Rider's HC gig? If, for some reason, the OC job in Winnipeg appeals to Lapo, with perhaps dibs on the HC job here, then that's sort of a no-brainer I think.
  9. It really depends on who'd they hire to run the bombers wouldn't it? Just them buying the bombers wouldn't change a thing. You're really splitting hairs. Whether the Jets are successful or not, True North has been a very positive addition to Manitoba and spent a ton of money and operate a sports franchise in a very professional way. Wade is doing a good job. But especially before he came along, the idea of TN owning the Bombers and running IGF would have been a magnificent development. The Bombers seem on the way to straightening things out in the front office. So thats good. A private owner might force hands more often (Asper would probably have fired someone by now lol) but Chipman would hire someone like Wade. Chipman didnt fire Noel. He doesnt interfere. So we're really in the same position we'd be in.
  10. If true then Kane should be in jail for a decade or more. What scum. I believe the penalty for rape in New York is 5-25 years. So this is very very serious. If Kane's past assault is still on his record, the D.A. would likely ask for more than the minimum. It also puts Kane in an interesting position. If he's charged, as a celebrity who's career would rely on his being acquitted, risking a minimum of 5 years is a big gamble. Non-celebrities might plea to a lesser charge and count their lucky stars. If Kane takes a plea and admits to being a rapist, his career is potentially over. Which means, he'd have to go to trial. And it will get very very ugly. The Kane-friendly media is already looking for reasons to blame the victim, like being enamored with Kane at the bar makes it okay to be violently raped, going into a room alone with him makes it okay. We shall see...
  11. Chipman and True North would be a Godsend to the Bombers.
  12. All the people who would stay home if BB starts, do you not enjoy any other aspect of the game outside of the QB'ing? Quite frankly, this adversity makes me more likely to go (I dont attend a lot of games live) because I find it very interesting. I want to see how the players respond, how the coaches prepare etc. If BB starts, it intrigues me. And the team could use a very full, very loud IGF. I know fans will boo BB. And I hope Marve starts because we should get a look at whether he's the future or not. But it would sure feel better as a fan and Im sure way better as a player to have 30,000 fans cheering and showing their support during the adversity.
  13. @308dotcom: CBC Poll Tracker updated: NDP 115-142 seats (33%), CPC 109-148 (31%), LPC 63-97 (26%), BQ 0-2 (5%), GPC 1 (5%). http://t.co/Gi8N6LsrQe
  14. Well I guess its a fluke in that he wasnt hurt as a direct result of a big hit. He planted his leg in such a way (under pressure) that caused the injury.
  15. @awfulannouncing: Buffalo News blasted for “irresponsible journalism” in coverage of Patrick Kane rape allegations http://t.co/fq8FWRxsPa @bubbaprog: A Fox Sports affiliate is publishing details on the alleged Patrick Kane victim, if you'd care to not give Fox Sports your money today.
  16. Has MOS even said who's starting yet? We seem to assume it's Marve....
  17. Hey, the best QB option might be the guy sitting in the Bombers' suite - Buck Pierce! :-)
  18. A lot of Rider fans are trying to learn how to spell "Karma" right now. I think its silly to blame this on not pulling Willy. After the half, the team got a quick score and recovered the ball quickly twice as well. They had nothing to show for those, but had they scored, the team was right back in the game. Can't look at that as an excuse. Willy could get hit on the first play or the last play. We have a decent receiving corp even without Adams. Especially if Moore is back. Marve can scramble. No reason we shouldnt win a few more games just based on his athleticism and our receiving talent. More pressure on the D to step up and shut down the opposition and maybe score a couple of TD's here and there. Adversity doesnt have to be the end. It might be the thing that takes this group of individuals and brings them together as a team. Imagine the Bombers making the Playoffs just as Drew Willy returns....
  19. Havent even heard of either of those. A buddy told me Sense8 is really good but I havent had a chance to check it out yet. True Detective 2 ended up being really good though I know I'm in the minority with that opinion. Its a depressing show. But I think it delivers on it's premise. It's sort of a pulp noir with heavy exposition and a certain self awareness where the main characters are all shades of grey and broken in some manner. While there might be 2 or 3 episodes where it seems like it's boring or nothing is happening, it ends up building to a climactic episode where it pays it off. You could probably take 4 episodes out of the 12 and its almost like "quarterly" episodes with exposition episodes strung between them. I really enjoyed it though, although I do more enjoy a happy ending. HBO has two new series Im interested in coming: Westworld https://youtu.be/OM8HNuRLIBI Vinyl - this one in particular, I am looking forward to as it's from Terrence Winters (Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire), Martin Scorsese & Mick Jagger. And a really interesting cast including Bobby Cannavale, Ray Romano, Juno Temple, Jagger's son and many more... http://www.avclub.com/article/heres-first-full-teaser-vinyl-new-show-martin-scor-223514
  20. I hadn't considered that. That's a very good point. Though the characters are different in that Stark is the suit. Batman relies on being a peak athlete, martial artist and very physical. I read they have Bruce as a mid 40 year old in this film. Affleck dyed his hair grey I think.
  21. Many providers are going with a Health Spending Account where the extra benefits are not specified and you can basically spend your portion on whatever health care you want. I work for a very large local company, bent over a computer all day and we dont even get massage or any sort of "health spending" so we cant even pick our own alternative care.
  22. It's part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe now, so this should be the last time. At least for a very long while. This is what really annoyed be about DC's decision to go with a new Batman. TDK Trilogy was so good and Bale was good and we were all invested in it emotionally and then they start over? Hate that. Im glad to hear they want to lock Affleck up as the Robert Downey of DC. Although it does make you wonder why they went with an "older" Batman if they want to get 6-10 films out of him. I guess if they are smart they can eventually tell the Return of the Dark Knight story. I like Affleck and think he will be really good.
  23. The Superman films had some rights issues over the years. I have to run soon so I dont have time to refresh my own memory but its an interesting story. There's a whole other Superman 2 out there (The Richard Donner cut) because the director was canned after filming a bunch of it. Superman 3 was hindered by the studio wanting to cash in on Richard Pryor's popularity and not being able to make a deal with Gene Hackman (it did have the cool Kent vs Superman fight though) Christopher Reeve wanted the films to get back to more serious but there were rights issues and whatnot. I always maintained they should have done Superman vs Doomsday but begin the film, almost in prologue fashion with breaking news clips of the epic battle using Christopher Reeve in CGI form and then use him in a hospital (this was after the actor had been crippled) and let him do the farewell/death scene. He was a very good actor when he had good material. Would have been emotional. And then the films sees the resurrected younger, stronger etc Superman. I think it really just comes down to WB and other studios not seeing the potential of superhero films that take the source material seriously and really present it as "what if superheroes existed in our world". Even Tim Burton's Batman wasnt very good as far as modern superhero films. It was interesting visually and had good performances but that whole series was very flawed. Superman as a concept is very difficult because of his power. They show him saving cats from trees and rounding up minor thugs and its like really, thats what he spends his time on? The question for him should be what is his purpose on Earth? Do rid the world of nukes (ugh)? Destroy ISIS? Stop 9/11? Or help little old ladies across the street? And why is a little old lady in Metropolis more important than a little old lady in Fargo? Or Dubai? The weight of being Superman is the underlying foundation of the character but its hard to bring it to life. Personally, I liked Superman Returns a lot more than Man of Steel.
  24. I really appreciate what Ang Lee was doing with the Hulk. It was like a comic strip come to life. I didnt mind it. But it did help show Marvel what didnt work.
  25. I sort of disagree. I think in this day and age, if you own properties that share a universe, you should keep that a shared universe. I think it adds layers and creates emotional investment from the audience. If all of Marvel's characters existed in different universes, the individual films might be nice, but they wouldnt have this epic scale to them. I think thats partially why Spider Man stopped resonating with viewers (among other reasons). X-Men drifted away until they brought their two X-Men universes together. Warner just didnt have a plan. And when the Dark Knight trilogy was ending, the MCU was exploding and Warner was in a corner. They had to play catch up. The one thing they benefit from is that the public is probably more aware of the main DC characters' origins than the Marvel so they dont need to tell origin stories again. Man of Steel was terrible. Terrible story, terrible execution. I assume Warner was wanting to move away from Bale for some reason because the obvious thing would have been to back up a Brink's truck to Nolan and Bale and have them build the DCUniverse around Bale's Batman and Nolan's vision. Im not convinced Snyder is the man for the job but I loved Watchmen. BvS looks great so fingers crossed. And I think Suicide Squad looks great too (after initially being perplexed by the concept).
