  1. I never watched the cartoon but I love the Harley Quinn voice from the video games. But I think she sounded good for the brief clips in the trailer. I like humor as long as it's organic. The Marvel films sometimes force the issue.
  2. It was never intended for public consumption. It was a special trailer for comic con and was leaked so they decided to release it. Usually you'd get a teaser that has less than this so for a de facto teaser I really like it. Leto is going to be very different than Heath Ledger as Joker. But I think it could work. The problem with a film like this is giving is X amount of bad guys with no set up as to who they are. It's another example of doing things sort of backward by DC. But it could work. And like you said, they've got the hook of Batman making a cameo. People will want to see Joker. Harley Quinn could be the break out. And you've got Will Smith for star power. But from a story perspective don't they need us to cheer for the bad guys like anti-heroes? And if it's implied in Superman V Batman that Joker killed Robin how do we then cheer for him in SS? I like it though. I like the darker aspect DC seems to be going in.
  3. http://m.winnipegsun.com/2015/07/13/sabres-ryan-oreilly-charged-with-dui-after-allegedly-driving-truck-into-tim-hortons?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Ontario Provincial Police have charged Buffalo Sabres forward Ryan O'Reilly with impaired driving. The OPP said Monday in a release that police were dispatched to a single motor vehicle crash on July 9, where a green Chevrolet pickup truck struck a commercial retail building and the occupants left the vehicle. Media reports say the truck crashed into a Tim Hortons in Lucan, Ont. "We are aware of the reports regarding the incident involving Ryan O'Reilly last week," Sabres general manager Tim Murray said in a statement. "We are currently in the process of gathering more information and will have no further comment until we have spoken with all parties involved." The release said O'Reilly was arrested and taken to the Middlesex County OPP detachment for breath testing. Along with impaired driving, the 24-year-old from Bluewater, Ont., has also been charged with care or control over 80 milligrams and failing to remain at the scene of an accident. He was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled in a London, Ont., court on Aug. 20. In an Instagram post seven weeks ago, O'Reilly posted a picture of a green Chevrolet pickup truck that he said he had just purchased. O'Reilly was traded from the Colorado Avalanche to Buffalo in June along with forward Jamie McGinn for Mikhail Grigorenko, JT Compher, defenceman Nikita Zadorov and the 31st pick of June's NHL draft. The Sabres signed O'Reilly to a seven-year contract extension on July 3 for $52.5 million. He's due to make $6.2 million next season. Last year with the Avalanche, O'Reilly scored 17 goals and 38 assists in 82 games. Looks like a window has been smashed out of the Lucan Tim Hortons. 4. Yes exactly. The woman who was filmed responds to Skidmore saying security turns their badges around by saying "Ill show you mine" or "you can see mine", something like that. The issue of the city admin accusing him of inappropriate touching is another interesting side story to this. If the woman in question gave him permission to look at her ID badge (which it sounds like to me) and he leans in to do so, thus "filming" her chest, then the city admin is being awfully petty. I think its worse...because if it had been the guy who said "you can see mine", I bet the city admin wouldnt have called it inappropriate touching. I didnt like the "women's victim" card being played there. I agree. Skidmore wanted to provoke a physical altercation. The city wanted a physical altercation so they had recourse to likely bar him as he was an annoyance. He seemed like an annoyance for sure. Skidmore thinks he was in the right to "defend" himself from the mysterious unnamed guy "attacking" him. I cant see him winning that case. He fires off so many punches in the guys face. Might be dropped from a felony though. Lots of "damn the man" types online calling this an attack on Skidmore's civil liberties. Saying he had the right to defend himself. The issue will be that security simply walked over and grabbed him with no warning or instruction. But still, defending yourself has to be "reasonable". And that is why the security should be charged too. Its not reasonable to shoot a guy for punching you in the face. Unless its The Rock or something. But security will be hard pressed to say he was deathly afraid for his life, looking at Skidmore.
  5. I agree with you guys. I worked security for nearly 20 years so I see a few things that jumped out at me. The 'victim' had an agenda. His holding his GoPro camera like that and speaking "calmly" as he was, was part of his agenda. He was hoping to "catch" something he could use to shame, embarrass or ridicule the government. And as you said Rich, his remarks that since security was not wearing their ID badges that he didnt know who they were right before he begins throwing punches was a set up. He wanted to get into a physical confrontation. He was ready for it. He should be charged. It sounds like he was one of those "the government works for me so I will take every opportunity to exercise my right to annoy elected officials at every turn" guys. However, in his defense, he raises a few good points. Firstly, why isnt security wearing ID? This is actually a very interesting topic. They will say their reason for not wearing them or "turning them over" is to protect their privacy out of an abundance of caution for their safety. They dont want their full names to be blasted all over the internet for someone to use in taking "revenge" on them or their families. I think we can all accept that. Police wear their surnames on their uniforms. Im surprised they still do, to be honest. When I worked security, we'd have angry patrons demand our names (and tell us we are legally obligated to do so, which ofcourse we are not). I'd always give them my first name. I had co-workers that would provide a fake name. I put a stop to that. First name and the phone number of the head office...go ahead and complain about me. I worked corrections too and a lot of people taped over the name on their ID badges. I never did, but I understand why many did. If I was the city government in this case, i would have instructed security to wear their ID badges in plain sight and provide their names upon request. The city clearly over-reacted here. Skidmore did not inappropriately touch the female. Though he might have thought twice about leaning in to film her badge that was hanging at chest height. Security enters the room. We dont know what security was told, presumably told to boot this guy. Security One walks over and immediately grabs the camera that is around Skidmore's neck. Supposedly this security is a former Sheriff's Officer so he should know better. You know you're being recorded by your own cameras and the civilian's camera, why react that way? My own experience was, if we were ejected a non-violent person who refused to leave, I'd also ask him nicely. I'd explain why. I'd entice (leave tonight and come back next week versus being barred forever). And if all else fails I'd explain that if he did not leave, we would be in our rights to physically remove him. And then we would. There was no such warning here. I also question the training, because of the failure to issue a warning and because of his reaction to being attacked. He panicked. Big time. he made very little effort to defend himself using his supposed training and immediately went for his gun. He also deliberately aimed the gun at Skidmore's gut so it was not an accidental discharge as he initially tried to claim. The second security, who should not have been on the other side of the room to begin with, instinctively jumped in. He had it right. The first security, still in a panic mode is essentially useless at this point, stunned into doing nothing while his partner struggles on the floor. I was actually with a cop friend of mine this weekend and meant to ask him about cameras. We see so many videos where the law enforcement immediately reacts aggressively to cameras. I say, you've got to embrace them and act as though you are always being filmed. At the bar, when people would try to film us, they'd usually end up with a two-piece cell phone. So I get it. But its a different time. Skidmore was rightfully charged. The security should also be charged with firing his weapon and fired for doing the wrong thing from moment one. And the council woman (I think she was city admin actually) should be cautioned to not cry wolf about "inappropriate touching".
  6. I totally agree with the arguments supporting banning the Confederate flag, but you see what a slippery slope you are on when it is deemed ok to just start banning anything and everything right? I get why the Nazi flag is banned and people freak out if anyone wears a swastika in public, but I don't get why kids run around today with a hammer and sickle flag on their chest. The USSR murdered millions of Ukrainians and Cossacks, and was a terrible repressive regime. If we as a society are arbitrarily deciding to ban all flags that at one time stood for oppression, why stop at just the Confederate flag? Ban all communist flags from the by-gone era as well. And the same argument can be made in support of banning the USSR flag as you just made re Confederate flags - if you disagree, your opinion doesn't count, because you are from Selkirk, not Moscow, so no one cares that you are pissed off if your "cool" Che Guevara T shirt is banned. Commie loser. Well I have never seen anyone sporting a Soviet flag. Perhaps I've just not observant. But I think you're confusing a couple of things. The Confederate Battle Flag isnt banned. And I dont think most people are calling for it to be banned. I think most people are simply asking for a little common sense to prevail. The Battle Flag is racist. It came to prominence as a symbol of the KKK. It was never used in it's "current" form (or the KKK form) by the Confederate Army. it appeared on the canton of the Confederate army flags (Stainless Banner & Bloodstained Banner). Now let's pretend the KKK didnt adopt the battle flag as their own. And everyone went on their way associating the flag with the confederates...and over the years that somehow went from being a symbol of the confederates to a symbol of "southern culture". Is it still not a symbol undeserving of "pride" considering what the confederates were fighting over? So when i see people saying this is an attack on southern culture, it makes me shake my head. What culture do they speak of? Owning slaves? Going to war with their own country? But that aside, take the case of the Swastika, a very old symbol. It was a positive image in many cultures and religions. But then the Nazi's came along and hijacked it and now the Western World considers it a symbol of hate and racism. But here's the thing... the Swastika is not banned. And neither is the Battle Flag. But I dare say that no government agency would raise a flag with the Swastika on it. And neither should they raise the battle flag. If someone wants to hang the flag in their home, in their car, draped on their body, that's their business. They are perfectly within their right to do so. And the rest of us enlightened folks are perfectly within our rights to consider those people to be ignorant hicks. I think if most of these people (especially the Canadians) would understand if they bothered to do a little research but I sincerely doubt most of them have a clue about the history of the flag.
  7. Yeah except banning the word "bossy" is not the same as banning a racist flag. Its also not even a discussion about banning the Battle Flag. It's about removing a flag that wasnt even officially used by the confederate army from government buildings. Why on earth would anyone feel a sense of pride over the confederates anyway? Fighting to keep slavery? Sounds like a great thing to take pride in. I especially love seeing people from here online talking about their "culture". yeah, you're from Selkirk, dont let the "man" take away your culture. lol Redneck losers.
  8. I wasnt impressed after the teaser but I am now. DC is playing catch-up big time and I think they have screwed a lot up. Given the choice between giving Snyder the ball and making Man of Steel the DC Universe template versus Nolen and the Dark Knight, they made the wrong choice. Just like with Star Trek and Terminator, the mistake in wiping out an entire series of films (in this case the Batman Begins trilogy) is a mistake. The idea that Ben Affleck is an aged Batman doesnt ring true to me. Dye his hair grey, sure, but who considered Affleck an "older" actor? Man of Steel was awful. The fact DC TV and films wont have any continuity and will, in fact, contradict each other is such a terrible idea. Short sighted. On the flip side, DC isnt doing "origins". They dont have time, being so far behind Marvel. The benefit DC has is that their heroes are more "iconic" so everyone knows many of the origins. And it appears they will reference Batman's parents' deaths anyway. I think Affleck looks great as Batman/Bruce Wayne. And the movie looks good.
  9. Thought I'd post this as it's very clear video and really interesting. A lot of different perspectives on this. The Citizen was charged with felony assault. What do you think? https://youtu.be/yZ-eJ8eNfd0
  10. I never "got" the Evil Dead films.
  11. Looks amazing. Interesting seeing the Robin outfit. Affleck looks good. I like the tone. And although I can't stand eisenberg he might make a great lex. He's naturally Unlikeable.
  12. I think Ellerby signed somewhere else didn't he? Perhaps Europe? KHL I believe. Yes On July 7, 2015, Ellerby signed his first contract abroad, agreeing to a one-year deal with Barys Astana of the KHL.[6
  13. @NHLJets: The #NHLJets have agreed to terms with D Paul Postma on a two-year contract ($887,500 AAV) > http://t.co/FKRyHH3WEXhttp://t.co/fI5SwC4zQh One way? Interesting. At 26 years old it's time to take the next step.
  14. Maybe we need to bring joe Mack back
  15. Friedman's 30 thoughts 25. Tried to piece together how close Winnipeg came to re-signing Michael Frolik because it’s clear GM Kevin Cheveldayoff was frustrated. Agent Allan Walsh wouldn’t comment, but a couple teams suspected the Jets offered four years at $16 million before free agency began, then talked about the possibility of $4.25M per, although I’m not sure it actually got there. There was at least one offer higher than Calgary's. I wondered if it was New Jersey, because Walsh has a good history with Ray Shero, but that’s purely a guess. He’s an excellent fit for the Flames. Frolik’s departure could be a gift for Alexander Burmistrov, who wants a top-nine role. Yes, he’s normally a centre, but can play wing. This is a relationship that needs some trust built back into it, and stepping into the void would be a good start. The Jets may also give a long look to Joel Armia, acquired in the Evander Kane trade. ***Some speculation i read was Frolik's agent was trying to work Chevy into a bigger offer. Once Chevy signed Stafford, he limited the agent's leverage. All things being mostly equal, Frlik chose the city/team he wanted. This is especially true if he turned down better offers to go to Calgary.
  16. Dont let City of Winnipeg know this is possible. That will be their next great scam.
  17. That's a good point. I wonder about some of these cars that can park themselves or brake when you're getting to close to the person in front of you. This is giving a little too much control to the computer systems and therefore anyone who gains control of the computer systems. TUP posted an interesting theory in the missing Malaysian flight thread that involved a hacker gaining control of the plane through a certain panel that could be exposed in the cabin. Of course, this is the trade-off we all consider. Having computer systems in planes allows us to do a lot of good stuff. It's a security risk but do the benefits outweigh the risk? That's the question we have to keep asking. This theory has surfaced more since they havent found the plane. And I've read it said its certainly feasible to take control of a plane in that way. It's all computers now. Fly-by-wire. Although I think its sitting at the bottom of the ocean, there are certainly many unanswered questions. The NK hack on Sony though...a case of revenge. I could see a despot nation like NK just hacking for sh!ts & Giggles.
  18. My concern would be these seemingly unconnected incidents are a foreign government (China, North Korea, Russia) testing their capabilities and the U.S. response. And that at some point in the future there will be a "real" unleashing of a plan. That could be to attack the U.S. economy by taking out the computer systems of all the airlines, stock markets etc at the same time. or an attack on government/military installations and assets. Or even more nefarious, an effort to take control of missiles, in-flight airlines etc. When something like this happens, it makes me wonder what the response is. because you dont often hear about China being knocked out for several hours. There was that attack on NK that people say was the US response to the studio hacking but it seemed to just knock out internet access in NK for a few hours which I cant imagine was a huge deal. Do we, as in the western world, not have the same sort of capabilities to cyber attack? Do we just not invest in it? Does it violate some moral code? Or do we commit cyber attacks that the other side keeps secret?
  19. Fox is my favourite. She's gorgeous and under utilized.
  20. 7, 7, 7, 6, 5, 4 $36M $6M AAV
  21. If Doug Brown said this, then Doug Brown is an idiot. Willy was CLEARLY conscious immediately following the hit as he cringed and reached towards his face, rolled over onto his stomach and, to my recollection while very still was stirring. I know Doug is an expert on everything, but Willy and the staff would know better. I also thought he looked "hurt" but not glassy when he was walking off. Anyone who has suffered a sudden, scary painful strike can probably attest to feeling an emotional exhaustion right after. Thats how he looked to me walking off. I actually said to myself 'he might be ok'. This is all so much ado about nothing. He was cleared. period.
  22. wpgallday1960 - I agree. I used to take the position that this was all nonsense. But I dont think that anymore. "Redskins" used to be an accepted term it seems. But it isnt anymore. Times change. It just seems so archaic and oblivious to want to keep the name. To me, this is such an awesome opportunity to not only rebrand successfully but to get a ton of free PR in the process. The media will do most of the work when it comes to the cost of alerting the public to the rebrand. If they enlisted local tribes to take part and come up with a new name in keeping with the spirit of the original, I think the positive press would be really good. I think this is an old fan owner who cant see past his own ego.
  23. Well neither one of us can predict the future. But a 35 year old Ladd who scores 20 goals, is captain and leader and makes the 2nd or 3rd line better for $6 might be the market value or even a bargain in 5 years. Who knows. But it works both ways. If Ladd at 35 is worth $4m and Ladd at 29 is worth $7m, then you split the difference. There's probably greater upside in a 29 and 30 and 31 year old Ladd then there is downside in a 35 or 36 year old Ladd. I would suspect he will be a very good contributing 3rd line winger at 35/36. Id over spent half a million a year rather then lose Ladd right now.
  24. But most of that is also stuff that only caters to the already obsessed. That is one way of looking at it. The other way is that the daily Bomber reports in the papers are already a solid 30% filler - I'd give an example if I had a paper in front of me - and this is far more interesting than any of that nonsense. So why not use this instead to pad the word count? Thats the thing, they are already there. Its not like they are being asked to work harder to serve the hardcore minority. I almost never buy newspapers. But if they provided insightful coverage like some fans on here have today and teased more in tomorrow's column Id be more likely to pick it up. Id spend money for insightful information. Not Dr Friesen attacking the Bombers' medical team.
  25. Yeah this is what I do on twitter too. because Im at work all day, I mostly come here for news but I like the immediately info of twitter. So I flip through and see nothing (or like I said earlier at least something like Bob commenting on Willy's throws) then so be it. But seeing them basically mock the desire of hardcore fans is a slap in the face. Im sure the reporters and their editors have a good laugh but my boss wouldnt think it was very funny if I tweeted that I was barely working today or nothing to do at work today. Isn't the fact that you are typing on a public football fan blog in the middle of your work day doing just that (unless your job is related to covering the Bombers and their interaction with the fans)? Yes. Dont tell my boss.
