TSN legal analyst Eric Macramalla shed some light on the matter and said on TSN 1200’s “The Drive” in Ottawa that Richards was involved in an issue at the border. NBC’s Pierre McGuire also confirmed something happened at a border crossing. On TSN 690 in Montreal, McGuirre said he had a “broken heart” over what happened. When host Mitch Melnick said he heard it was something that happened at a border crossing, McGuire agreed and said that was “correct.” “I’m not going to talk about it until it’s made public. I have a pretty good idea of what is happening,” McGuire said. ***Dont want to speculate, but Im getting the sinking feeling this is something pretty awful...

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nhl/story/_/id/13173411/royal-canadian-mounted-police-investigation-involves-mike-richards-source Mike Richards, whose contract has been terminated by the Los Angeles Kings, is part of an ongoing investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for an off-ice incident, a source told ESPN.com on Tuesday. A spokesperson for the RCMP in Manitoba told ESPN that, as of Tuesday, no charges have been brought against Richards but declined to comment further. The source said that Canadian Border Services is also involved in the investigation, but a spokesperson declined comment, citing Canadian privacy laws. Richards, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, had the remaining five years of his 12-year contract terminated Monday by the Kings. The team did not say why Richards is in violation of the deal other than to say in a statement that it was for "a material breach of the requirements of his Standard Player's Contract." Several sources told ESPN.com that the Kings were made aware of the situation involving the Canadian authorities Friday, approximately an hour after the first round of the 2015 NHL draft had begun. According to a source, the Kings did inform the league about their intent to terminate Richards' contract, even before putting him on unconditional waivers Sunday. The NHL Players' Association has a right to file a grievance for Richards and is in the process of gathering information before deciding whether to go that route. "We are in the process of reviewing the facts and circumstances of this matter, and will discuss the situation with the player in order to determine the appropriate course of action," NHLPA spokesman Jonathan Weatherdon said Monday in a statement. The Kings were already in the process of trying to trade Richards -- discussions were in place with both the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames -- but Kings general manager Dean Lombardi immediately informed both teams upon learning about the situation that he had no prior knowledge of the incident and halted those talks. "He came right over to me," Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli confirmed to ESPN.com. "He pulled me aside and said, 'Hey, Pete, this is going to come out. I had no idea. This is important you know so that talks [don't go any] further.'" Lombardi did the same with Flames GM Brad Treliving on the draft floor, Treliving confirmed. It is not immediately clear when the incident took place. Richards was earning $5.75 million per season as part of a $69 million deal that was scheduled to run out in 2020. The 30-year-old veteran had cleared unconditional waivers Sunday. The deadline for the first buyout window is June 30.

Anyone watching True Detective Season 2? Two episodes in. Im not sold on it yet. I havent decided if the writer is sort of doing a parody of the first season or if he just thinks he's smarter than he is. Episode 2 ended with a shocking development.

Im very much looking forward to it. I may even see it alone if I cant convince anyone to see it with me. While I am somewhat of a critic of creative endeavors like film and TV, I look at things as far as the intent. Terminator is not going to be The Shawshank Redemption. But if it's entertaining and well made and, most importantly to me, logical within the context of the franchise, I will enjoy it. And ofcourse, part of it is nostalgia.

Butchko was done like dinner the minute he stepped to the mic and declared the buck stopped with him. He wanted the heat, he got the heat. -
I believe the waivers happen first. A player could be taken off waivers and only pay him half his contract (the team placing him on waivers would be responsible for the other half. A team has several options once a players clears waivers. Usually we know the intent is to buy him out just from media speculation and insiders and common sense but they dont have to. For example, Mike Richards...everyone assumed he was waived for purposes of a buy out. Instead he was Terminated. But once they clear waivers, the team must still take action to either keep the player, terminate the player, trade the player or buy out the player. If bought out (or Terminated) they are Unrestricted Free Agents. Currently, those guys, including Richards, are UFA's.

all things "equal" that puts you far behind, I would lose out to a visible minority, a woman or a disabled person, no one wants a PR nightmare should I beat out one of those 3 and they decide to feel wronged and vocal about it. Im a little unsure what advantages I have other then my health over a disabled person, something I have no control over much like i didn't choose my skin colour, my gender, or have control over other peoples hate crimes and actions. There's groups and organization out there specifically granting free money and education to cater these people as well, not to me tho, even things like EI, EIA, social assistance put in place by the government itself, are stupid hard to be approved for. Am I supposed to automatically be able to attain these things like higher education and employment because my parents were blue collar workers who provided for their family, put me in public school and were not poor but far from well off? Equality my ass. I guess i missed the memo that I really am not allowed to struggle cuz its a short rope being offered as help I am absolutely against the way certain groups of ppl have been treated over the course of time, but it's hard not to feel thrown under the bus for those actions which I had no part of. I heard somewhere white people will soon be the visible minority in canada with our lax immigration laws and current population growth rates among the different races, I believe Filipino and Aboriginals were crushing caucasians in the stats, so fingers crossed my day of equality will come I disagree. As a white male I cant honestly complain that I've lost opportunities to less qualified visible minorities, disabled persons or women. I work for a very visible company too. When I was younger I was very against affirmative action and I can understand why some people are. But working towards a more diverse workplace is a good thing. Its not about promoting or hiring unqualified people over qualified white people. I dont know if that happens too much. But as others have said, how many more opportunities do you need if you're white? Its about fixing a broken situation that was unduly impacted by bigotry in the past. I will say I strongly disagree with the assertion that white cannot be victims of racism. That's the Eric Robinson nonsense with his racist remarks. His "Im a victim of racism so Im allowed to be racist" defense and the "white people cant be victims". There was some sort of protest a few weeks back where an Aboriginal group blocked Portage Ave. Small group that rightly should have been removed by the police. But for political reasons they were not. The Police attended to make sure it was a peaceful protest. But the Aboriginal group doing the protesting were making very vile racists remarks to passers-by. Its people like that that do their cause and their people a dis-service.

Let's hope there is no delays as I imagine July 1st will be pretty active here.

Good analysis. Stafford and Burmi would fill out the forwards nicely with some young talent coming up behind.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 7m7 minutes ago Note: Even tho LAK terminated Richards' contract, they are still responsible for a cap recapture amount, per CBA. Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 5m5 minutes ago If Richards/NHLPA file grievance over LAK termination, it will be heard by joint-appointed NHL-NHLPA Impartial Arbitrator. Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 4m4 minutes ago Grievances often takes months, sometimes years, to be heard but request can be made for expedited hearing that sometimes take days or weeks.

David Pagnotta @TheFourthPeriod · 2m2 minutes ago Kings took information they received on Richards on Friday and moved forward on it. They are very confident in their findings. Los Angeles' VP of hockey operations/director of player personnel Mike Futa was on The Fan 590 in Toronto Monday morning, before news of Richards' contract termination was released: "(Dean Lombardi) flew into Kenora and looked Mike in the eye and felt it was comfortable we were going to have him buy in a little bit better, but it just didn’t work out…He’s the one who’s got to look in the mirror in regards to his decision.”
-
So is this not a buy out? What the heck happened? “The Los Angeles Kings today have exercised the team's right to terminate the contract of Mike Richards for a material breach of the requirements of his Standard Player's Contract. We are not prepared to provide any more detail or to discuss the underlying grounds for the contract termination at this time.” Andrew Paterson @hustlerama Wow is the Mike Richards saga ever ending badly in LA. I won't offer any theories but it sure looks like this will be an extra ugly divorce

Thats not entirely true. Ancient Greece and Rome, Mesopotamia, some regions in China, and some older European areas allowed a same-sex marriages until Christianity came into more prominence. This needs to be reiterated. From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_same-sex_unions "Same-sex marriage was outlawed on December 16, 342 AD by the Christian emperors Constantius II and Constans." "In North America, among the Native Americans societies, same-sex unions have taken place with persons known as Two-Spirit types. These are individuals who fulfill one of many mixed gender roles in First Nations and Native American tribes. "In many tribes, individuals who entered into same-sex relationships were considered holy and treated with utmost respect and acceptance," according to anthropologist Brian Gilley." Many more examples on that page. This is not a new occurence. Turns out it was the Church who changed the meaning of marriage centuries ago. Now they are grumpy that it is changing back. Really hits home. When you also start looking into how the early Church manipulated things, you start to wonder about some of the believes otherwise intelligent people hold. God gave us free will and intelligence for a reason and it wasnt to blindly follow a book written by man filled with inconsistencies and contradictions.

Just seems like a lot to give up for a Pens team. I dont think what they're missing is what Kessel brings to the table. Given the situation, I'd think the Leafs would take less.
-
Pens Blogger: There are rumors that Toronto is willing to retain 2M of Kessel's salary in a trade. My response to that is it will increase the amount of teams that are interested and it also jacks up the asking price. For Pittsburgh that means something like Olli Maatta, Kasperi Kapanen, and 2016 first round pick. While Phil Kessel does have an extensive no-trade clause it doesn't mean he can't waive it. Some things to keep in mind as the rumors continue to swirl about Kessel/Pittsburgh. Am I crazy or is that an over-payment for Kessel?
-
I think I went 0 for 4. Yikes. Better stick to hockey.
-
Well it does for religious people. And for those that arent religious, why should they be held to the standard of the religious? Is a marriage between two non-religious people any less of a commitment? Someone asked what the big deal was outside of the ceremonial nature of marriage. There are matters of benefits, death benefits, decision-making etc. Things of that nature.

Lots of talk of Richards here a year or two ago when everyone with at least half a brain saw him as a Compliance Buyout. Only the Kings thought differently and now they will pay for it. I think Lawless was pushing Richards as a trade target if the Kings ate a bunch of salary. Saw him as a good fit for the 3rd/4th line, grit and playoff experience. That idea had merit. But bringing him now for a one or two year deal, I dont see where he fits. Even if he's better than Copp in the short term, I think we need to develop Copp who people say is NHL ready right now. And Im not convinced Richards is better than Copp anymore.
-
Someone is going to regret the deal they give Beleskey.
-
Surprised anyone is interested in Ribeiro until he gets his legal issues sorted out. Id be interested in Beleskey but hes likely to be overpaid. Would the Jets want to bring back Eric Fehr?
-
I thought the same thing about Mike Richards. If this was two seasons ago, I think he'd be a Jet for sure. I wonder if there is interest. I heard his broke up with his Winnipeg gf though. I think someone gives Richards a shot but I dont see why it would be the Jets.
