  1. Edmonton would have to try very hard to keep sucking. They should be a powerhouse and that will appeal to players that want to win in a manner that should be statistically beneficial. But Edmonton will always suck as a city. lol
  2. Exactly the point I made too. History will judge the dissenters as bipartisan fools. Hard to believe that educated, insightful people could be against gay marriage in this day and age.
  3. You really get the sense with STID that the writers made a list of big "scenes" they wanted and then tried to put some sort of connecting story between them. Im sure the idea of the Enterprise rising out of the ocean was great (it looked fantastic) but made little sense. But their standard response was "this is a new universe". Except they wanted to jerk off fans with canonical references every three minutes to show their Trek cred. Just brutal. Khan goes from a dark skinned latino playing an Indian to a pasty brit. Makes sense. Im SUPER looking forward to Terminator!
  4. Very interesting. This might be where the pre-free agent day window to talk to teams plays into our advantage. Surely his agent made some calls and they have an idea that the Jets offer was in the ballpark of fair market. Otherwise there is no reason to work on a deal the day before (or two days before) Free Agency. It would seem to indicate Stafford enjoyed his time here also and wants to be here. Which is weird since no one wants to come to Winnipeg. Be nice if Jets announce signing of Stafford AND extension for Ladd this week. Burmi signing probably not far off either (or trade). For sure there will always the percentage of players that prefer to play in a bigger city, but I think it has been shown, even back to the Jets 1.0 days, that while Winnipeg isn't a top priority for many players, once they get here, there are many players whole like it and wish to stay. Absolutely. I was being sarcastic. Players have shown repeatedly that chance to win seems to be the most important thing plus ice time, "right fit" (and the Jets as an organization always get rave reviews). I think the city comes into play more with players who have families because its the wife and kids that spend more time in the city than the player. And that can work to our advantage also for families that want a "small" big city. I remember when the Jets were announced as coming back one discussion thread was devoted to "how will Winnipeg absorb housing needs of 25 millionaires". I guess we managed. Andrew Ladd lived in JT's condo which was in the same building as a friend of mine and she aint a millionaire.
  5. Darrin Bauming @DarrinBauming Where he trains in offseason. RT @frank_seravalli: Michael Frolik has Montreal atop his list for UFA destinations according to @renlavoietva
  6. Should be RevoBluetion. I did not go to school for marketing.
  7. USAtoday on top 25 UFA's: But there will be plenty of buyers when the market opens Wednesday. A look at the top 25 unrestricted free agents: 1. Defenseman Mike Green (Washington Capitals): Several teams are looking for an offensive defenseman and Green is the best one available. He's 29 and he could be a 50- to 60-point defenseman if he signs with the right team. Good fit: New Jersey Devils. Having a puck-mover like Green would make them more dangerous. 2. Center Antoine Vermette (Chicago Blackhawks): With centers in short supply, Vermette, 32, should have a number of suitors. When he was traded by the Arizona Coyotes to the Blackhawks, he had trouble adjusting last season. But he scored two game-winning goals in the Stanley Cup Final. He's a strong two-way center who can win a big faceoff. Good fit: Coyotes. Vermette played his best hockey there. 3. Center Mike Ribeiro (Nashville Predators): Considering the Predators gave Ribeiro a chance after the Coyotes dropped him because of off-ice behavior, it was assumed he would re-sign with them. But it hasn't happened yet, and Ribeiro, 35, might end up as a free agent. He had 62 points last season. Good fit: Carolina Hurricanes. They need an offensive spark. 4. Left wing Matt Beleskey (Anaheim Ducks): At 28, Beleskey is in the prime of his career. He scored 22 goals last season. His previous high was 11. Has he blossomed into a consistent 20-goal scorer or did he have a career season? That's what NHL teams have to decide. Good fit: Devils. They need scoring. 5. Right wing Michael Frolik (Winnipeg Jets): Frolik is a good all-around hockey player who had 19 goals last season. He can kill penalties and understands the defensive side of the game. He's 27. Good fit: Ducks. They're looking to replace Beleskey and Kyle Palmieri. 6. Defenseman Andrej Sekera (Los Angeles Kings): The Kings wanted to keep Sekera but didn't have the cap space. He has the tools to help a quality offensive team. Good fit: Colorado Avalanche. Joe Sakic is looking for a blue-chip defenseman. 7. Left wing Drew Stafford (Jets): He's 29 and has scored as many as 31 goals in a season. He has 19 points in 26 games after he was traded from Buffalo to Winnipeg last season: Good fit: Jets. They would like to re-sign him. 8. Defenseman Cody Franson (Predators): He didn't play well for the Predators, but he has shown he can be a 40- to 50-point defenseman. He's 6-5 and weighs 220. Good fit: Edmonton Oilers. At 27, Franson is young enough to be part of the Oilers' future with Connor McDavid and company. 9. Right wing Martin St. Louis (New York Rangers): At 40, St. Louis is not the dominant player he once was. He had a disappointing playoff, but he did score 21 goals last season. Presuming St. Louis is willing to accept a one-year deal with a low base salary and a strong bonus package, he could be a good roll of the dice. Good fit: Pittsburgh Penguins. St. Louis might be a good fit for Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin. 10. Justin Williams (Kings): Williams has three Stanley Cup championship rings — two with the Kings and one with the Hurricanes. Williams, 33, has a history of producing in the playoffs. He's good for 18 to 20 goals a season. Good fit: Boston Bruins. They say they aren't rebuilding. If that's true, they will need to replace traded Milan Lucic's goals. 11. Defenseman Francois Beauchemin (Ducks): The only negative about Beauchemin is he is 35. He's a desirable, all-around defenseman. He boasts a hard shot. He defends aggressively and he has bite to his game. Most of the contenders would be interested in him. Good fit: Ducks. They need him. 12. Defenseman Johnny Oduya (Blackhawks): At 33, Oduya is a very effective defensive defenseman. He is a second-pairing guy who is comfortable playing against the NHL's top-line players. Many teams will be interested. Good fit: Kings. With suspended Slava Voynov's status still unknown, the Kings need another defender. 13. Defenseman Paul Martin (Penguins): At 34, Martin probably can't command a long-term deal. But that means he probably will have more interested parties. He's an effective one-on-one defender. Good fit: Bruins. They have to replace Dougie Hamilton. Martin might be a quality short-term solution. 14. Defenseman Christian Ehrhoff (Penguins): He has been a 50-point offensive defenseman in the past. At 32, he is probably a 40-point guy. Good fit: San Jose Sharks. He started his career there, and they would benefit from his abilities. 15. Center Mike Richards (Kings): The Kings put him on waivers for the purpose of buying out his contract. Unquestionably, Richards has been a disappointment in LA. But he will get his buyout money and then sign a modest contract and be a gritty No. 4 center for some team. Good fit: Coyotes. They could give him a chance to rebuild his reputation. They need help at center 16. Center-wing Eric Fehr (Capitals): He's 6-4 and you can count on him for 15-plus goals every season. He had 19 this season. He was at $1.6 million and he's looking for a raise. Good fit: Vancouver Canucks. They're looking to supplement their secondary scoring. 17. Right wing Joel Ward (Capitals): He scored 19 goals at 34 and is the role player general managers are looking for at the trade deadline: Good fit: Calgary Flames. They are looking to fine-tune their roster. 18. Defenseman Zbynek Michalek (St. Louis Blues): With 711 NHL games on his résumé, Michalek, 32, is the veteran defenseman that every team is seeking. Good fit: Toronto Maple Leafs. Even a rebuilding team needs veteran defenders. 19. Center Mike Santorelli (Predators): The versatile role player can chip in 12 to 15 goals. He understands his role and could be an inexpensive source of NHL experience. Good fit: Coyotes. They have to spend to get to the salary cap floor. 20. Center Shawn Matthias (Canucks): At 6-4, 216, Matthias can offer size and third-line effectiveness. He scored 18 goals last season. Good fit: Capitals. They will be looking to replace Fehr. 21. Center Brad Richards (Blackhawks): At 35, he is still a sharp passer and reads the play extremely well. He can still contribute to a high-powered offense. Good fit: Blackhawks. They would probably re-sign him if he is willing to sign a one-year deal for a modest salary. 22. Right wing Chris Stewart (Minnesota Wild): He's 6-2, 231 and he once scored 28 goals for the Colorado Avalanche. Coaches are always left wanting more from Stewart, but he is 27 and he does enough to draw interest. Good fit: Florida Panthers. They can use size and goals. 23. Left wing Curtis Glencross (Capitals): He has proved that he can generate 40 or more points per season. Given the league-wide need for secondary scoring, Glencross has value. Good fit: Hurricanes. They have to score more this season or they will fall to the very bottom. 24. Goaltender Karri Ramo (Flames): Ramo has had some stretches when he looks like he could be a No. 1 goalie. Good fit: Sharks. They are the only team that doesn't have a projected No. 1 goalie. 25. Defenseman Barret Jackman (Blues): Jackman would be a safe pickup for a contending team looking solidify its defense. He's a stay-at-home defender who plays with intensity. Good fit: Blackhawks. He could be a dependable No. 6 for them. They will be looking for a veteran because they will be losing Oduya and Michal Rozsival. Anyone look good to the Jets there?
  8. Very interesting. This might be where the pre-free agent day window to talk to teams plays into our advantage. 9. I believe Buff has to supply his list every summer. I wonder if his list is always the same and/or if it would be different if the Jets came to him and said he's being traded as opposed to just making a list because he's obligated to but knows it will never be used. I wouldnt want to go to Edmonton either but as an offensive defensman, maybe he'd reconsider after some serious thought. Plus, with one year left, whats the big deal
  10. Are you suggesting since the Supreme Court ruling, they should this Universe Kirk/Spock marry each other and adopt children? :-) Both Quinto and Pine only had three movie deals (they all did). How it works is, the actors have raises built into their contracts but if a film does very well, the studio will give them a raise above and beyond the contractual minimum. Star Trek was not considered a huge hit so Paramount & Skydance did not give the actors raises above their minimums. The contracts were for X amount of time (7 years I believe) and because Bad Robot took their sweet time between movies, Pine's people considered the contracts timed out and void. Rather then go to court over it, Paramount & Skydance re-negotiated bigger raises (reported Pine is getting $6 million compared to $600,000 for the first one) and got Pine & Quinto to agree to a 4th film. There's no indication they intend to make a 4th. I think it was more that the studio wanted to get something in return. So if Trek 3 defies the odds and is a big hit, they have the two leads for a 4th film.
  11. people should be able to marry regardless of religious beliefs Given that marriage has traditionally been a religious institution, perhaps a dividing line would have been the best way to resolve this. In other words, call it something else for people who are not religious. After all, why would anyone who is not religious want to be associated with something that was inherently religious for centuries? But alas, that opportunity has come and gone. Now we're left arguing over something that's mostly a matter of semantics. But why should people who are not religious or dont believe the same as a certain group (many religions with different beleifs) not be allowed to marry? Why would anyone care?
  12. I hoped you'd be able to see the point but clearly it was lost on you. There is no comparison happening. The point is that you can't use the silly argument that you did to say God doesn't exist or doesn't want people to be gay or whatever ridiculous point you were trying to prove. Sorry Atomic, but common sense applies. Please show me where I said God doesnt exist. I didnt. You cant make the comparison between God making people gay and God making people pedophiles but diminish the silly comparison with "and Im not comparing them". You are.
  13. Could see Frolik in Pittsburgh. They might be looking for a flashier player but they'd be smart to look at him. Wouldn't be surprised to see a Ladd contract announced on Wednesday.
  14. people should be able to marry regardless of religious beliefs
  15. I wondered how long it would take for someone to use the pedophile comprison. I hoped the people here were more enlightened than that.
  16. Paramount was disappointed with the Trek returns. Rumors has it their deal with Bad Rogot is up next uear. And either way their deal with CBs to license Trek ends next year. So new deals will have to be made. paramount hasn't given Trek the support of a blockbuster. And they seem unsure of why direction to take. They fired Bob Orci as writer after giving him two shots at a script for Trek 3 and fired him as director. They are filming right now and the script isn't finished. They are rushing the film to release in one year. They did re-up Pins and Quinto for a 4th but it was a throw in to those actors demanding raises during a dispute over contracts. Bad Robot was hired to be the Trek Czars but JJ bolted to Star Wars after some disputes. It wouldn't surprise me the future of Star Trek is debated after the next film. There is speculation CBS wants to make a TV series. The problem with the films is they created a new universe. But CBS likes the old universe. Bad Robot wanted the new universe thinking they could control all derivatives of said universe but CBS wouldn't stop marketing TOS. It's certainly possible CBS extends the deal with oaramount but the questions are, if CBS makes a TV show why would they want a TV series and a film franchise taking place in different universes. And ofcourse the bigger issue is the split between CBS and Paramount and how that has impacted Trek. Never under estimate Paramounts stupidity. They've never seemed to understand trek which is a franchise ready-made for the "cinematic universe" treatment. Even though the films made money the last one received mixed reviews. They understood that with Tranformers and how they are now bringing on board a lot of respected writers to revamp that franchise. Will they do it with Star Trek?
  17. Also loved rod black hyping up the viewer by saying it was a huge oky for sk coming up and they "had to stop the Bombers here"....and the Bombers took a knee because there was virtually no time left. Does he even watch football?
  18. Black was horrible. Even after half time they were still pushing the idea peach stepped in him. How stupid are they.
  19. You must like Drew Dilly Chips. They are Willy Willy good.
  20. I agree. Into Darkness was very bad in many ways. Just a complete boner creatively. One of its writers Bob Orci is really a rude jerk to fans. Not a good writer at all
  21. If he signs a contract that all but ensures a productive Ladd retired as a Jet I'm happy. Probably one more deal after this one but the mutual commitment would be a good sign.
  22. I'd be okay with that. But that has to spell the end of buff. A commitment like that from our captain and the team to him would be meaningful.
  23. Jets clearly feel comfortable with the current D and D prospects. Taking C's is good. Even for future trade value
  24. Looks like jets having a good draft
  25. Ehlers plays both wings. Talk of him with Ladd and little this season. Connor is a C who also plays LW
