2015 NHL Draft And Trade Rumours

Ill defer to your opinion as Im not overly familiar with Hamilton and the Bruins. Sounds like Lucic deal still possible...to Vancouver? If Hamilton is Truba-esque then no, I would not do that deal. -
2015 NHL Draft And Trade Rumours

I think the problem is, what do we have to sweeten the pot with? Prospects yes, but do we want to lose Petan? No. Does Arizona want Kossy? Maybe. Our prospect cupboard is getting stocked but our real world depth isnt fully there. Buff allows us to replenish but who on the team right now can we include...? Perreault? Sure...but would we do that? -
Frolik Conundrum
The Unknown Poster replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Ducky, Im sure the Jets have a very good idea what they could have got for Frolik. And we definitely could not have got a better player than Frolik for Frolik. Its really a moot point anyway. I stand by my reasoning: If the Jets were fighting for a playoff spot and did NOT have Frolik but went out and traded picks and/or prospects for Frolik as a rental, no one would be saying 'how could we let him get away'. Thats the cost of doing business and the risk with a rental. We "got" Frolik as a rental to help us make the playoffs and it cost us nothing. -

Whats Calgary's pick. And yes, now that I recall, its a cap issue. Sequin being a bad trade doesnt impact this trade. If you judge a trade winner by who got the best player, Calgary wins. Check back in 5 years though... -
I can only speak for myself. I don't expect government to make laws according to my beliefs. I know we're in the minority. Doesn't change my beliefs. It just affirms them.Im not sure being in the minority should affirm your beliefs. Perhaps it should cause you to reexamine them.@kelownabomberfan I knew that would come up! lol I love Lincoln. I think its the finest performance by an actor in film history. And as "immoral" as Lincoln's efforts might have been, he did the right thing. And surely some of the Democrats who voted in favor actually believed it. The movie even shows some Democrats who "got it" but the political pressure was huge. Its tough watching that film and seeing them argue that freeing the slaves would lead to black people wanting *gasp* the vote! Crazy. And Fraser, you're right. Bigotry trumps tolerance. One should not be tolerant of hate or bigotry. So you're saying minority thinkers should change because the majority told them to? Talk to many natives lately? Not what Im saying at all. If you apply common sense to a widely held opinion you can make a fairly insightful decision. A massive majority of people sharing an opinion doesnt make them right, but it makes their opinion worth considering. And again, we're applying common sense. Also, not sure what Aboriginals have to do with this topic. I speak to Aboriginals on a regular basis as I have siblings and friends who Aboriginal and Metis.

How can one argue for others to be tolerant of intolerance? If you can, by all means please do so. I love a good debate. :-)I was being somewhat facetious by saying "Absolutely. Within reason". Does the KKK deserve our tolerance? They have the right to believe anything they want. But who here is willing to say society should allow, or be tolerant, of their words and actions? In 2015, how can anyone justify being against gay people? If you believe being gay is a choice, that would explain it. But thats too easy to dismiss. People used to believe slavery was okay and slave owners wanted others to be tolerant of their position. Thankfully, people chose not to be tolerant. I know there are people against this. And none of us can change their minds. But its the wrong side of history my friend. My wife isnt property. My black friends arent inferior. And being gay isnt wrong. Using the kkk example is not valid. I'm not out there killing people and burning crosses. Yeah I believe being gay is unnatural. So arrest me. my faith is along these lines: Hate the sin and love the sinner. And being we're all sinners......we should show love to all. I tolerate gays and others who I don't agree with. The government doesn't rule my mind or make my decisions. Not all racists are doing that either. Are you saying you're disappointed with today's ruling? Because if so...and if it went to a referendum in Canada and you'd vote against gay marriage then its not just a matter of "opinion" its actions impacting others. I think thats the part people dont understand... think what you want but why would you vote against gay marriage, why would you deny the right for two people in love to get married? How does gay marriage impact you that you want it disallowed? If your son or daughter was gay and getting married would you disagree with that, not attend? Would you walk her daughter down the aisle if she was marrying another woman? Im not trying to get overly personal, just intrigued by the discussion (and I respect you having the courage to admit your feelings on this).

The Jets have probably told him they would like to have some roster certainty before free agency begins. Are they buyers or not? They want Stafford to stay. Stafford looks like he wants to stay. But if this draws out and Stafford signs elsewhere the Jets may wish they moved on a different player sooner. Maybe it's one of their own pending FA's that they'd try harder to keep if they know Stafford is gone. Maybe it's going strong after another team's FA. They could be pitching that guy on becoming a Jet right now if they felt Stafford needed to be replaced. So they tell him if he wants to be here they'd really like to push to get this done. He understands and will at least try to push to get it done too. You could be right. What I find interesting is the Jets have seemingly made offers to both Stafford and Frolik yet they dont appear to be connected. For example, if Stafford doesnt sign, the Jets could up the offer to Frolik feeling they need a top six winger. Its like they have their budget and their value and thats it.

If the Jets can land #3, pick Hanifin and keep Morrissey, the D is set for 15 years.

Boston Bruins ✔ @NHLBruins BREAKING: Bruins acquire 2015 1st round pick (#15) & two 2015 2nd round picks (#45 #52) from CGY for Dougie Hamilton: http://bbru.in/1JaooVq Great return for Boston. Whats the deal with Hamilton? He doesnt want to play in Boston? How's he going to like Calgary? -

Actually, if you watch the movie "Lincoln", a lot of the Democrats voted in favour of the 13th Amendment because they had lost the election in November and were going to be out of a job come the end of January. That's why Lincoln chose that strategic time to launch the 13th Amendment debate, and vote, because a lot of Democrats were vulnerable to being bribed to vote the "right" way, which of course was to abolish slavery. It was unfortunate that people had to be bribed to vote to abolish slavery, but things were a lot different in the world 150 years ago. 150 years from now people will look back and say "can you believe people were against gays getting married?"

It was Thomas Jefferson that coined the term separation of church and state: Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof", thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. The political argument against gay marriage seems to come down to wanting religious beliefs to influence how the government treats the matter. And it shouldnt.

Yes she is a flip flopper. http://gawker.com/remember-when-hillary-clinton-was-against-gay-marriage-1714147439 Maybe she changed her mind because she really believes it. Im not a Democrat so Im not making excuses for political reasons. Id respect her more if she said "I said those things and I was wrong." Maybe she has. I dont get too deep into things until the election starts in earnest. lol

It's only going to get worse for those of us who have faith. I'm not out there condemning people or worse, becoming violent about it. That doesn't mean I have to accept it as normal. The people who I'll fight are those who attack me for not falling in line and forcing me to accept their ways. Like you said.....tolerance should be a two way street. But it never is. I wont attack you personally. But I am curious. Are you saying being gay is "abnormal"? If you were born gay would you pretend to be straight? I think thats the bottom line for a lot of people...if you are born this way, how can others say its wrong? What basis exists for that? Its like saying all red heads are evil.
-
Absolutely. Within reason. If someone's religious believes are that being gay is "wrong", "immoral", "abomination", then thats not much of a religion. One can believe anything they want. There are people who believe women are lesser than men, or that black people are inferior. They have the right to that opinion. But they're still wrong.

Dugger is a whole different discussion. Im not sure his actions necessarily brand him a child molester in the sense that that would normally imply. I'd have to review more details of the case. As for public acceptance, polls show 2/3rd of Americans now support gay marriage with that number rising all the time. I dont know if Hillary is a flip flopper or someone who's opinion has changed. Its an interesting time. There will be people alive today who were always raised, taught, led to believe etc that being gay was wrong or a choice or whatever. Those people can become enlightened over time and change their minds. A lot of us see it as utterly stupid to ever think being gay is "wrong" but if you're in your 20's and 30's, a different society then people in their 60's and 70's. But I agree about political lines. And it works both ways. Im sure there are conservatives who are thrilled with todays ruling but cant say so.

2015 NHL Draft And Trade Rumours

SportsCentre ✔ @SportsCentre BREAKING: The Calgary Flames have acquired D Dougie Hamilton from the Boston Bruins pic.twitter.com/lVi7lc5uO6 -
Scheif could end up a #1 in the vein of Little who isnt flashy or a top point getter but a very sound #1. Scheif is still very young. Id want him to improve this season somewhat significantly. Maybe with some regular line-mates he will. either Perrault or Ehlers will be with him and either Wheeler or Stafford. All those options should see his point totals increase.

They tie it to religion by saying gay marriage violates religious freedom which is really a pretty galling argument. But you're right, how does this impact any of these losers that are against it? Its a control thing. "If ya wanna be gay, fine but you aint gettin married." What the F difference does it make to YOU? Ugh My parents church has a unique opinion. They accept that gay people are born that way, thus created that way by God. And so it is not a sin to be gay, just a sin to do gay things. *rolls eyes*. An otherwise good church and my parents are pretty liberal so no judgements...lol But what a bizarre way to look at things.

Disgusts me that the court is so political. If I was President and had to appoint a Supreme Court member I'd scratch off anyone who I knew would always vote "conservative" or "liberal". They are supposed to be above that. Years from now, those four justices' names will be remembered just as the congressmen who voted against the 13th Amendment. (To pass, several Democrats had to vote in favour crossing party lines to do so, and thus were on the right side of history). These justices today...despicable.

I know I know. But he's right at least twice a day... ;-) And its for speculative purposes only. -
Move him now Absolutely. Well...after the free agency firestorm settles probably. When teams take stock of what they have and what they need. Though Philly picks 7th in the draft and have long been interested in Buff. Maybe a deal could be made with draft picks included.
-
Little could easily be moved over to the wing. You draft d-men and centres first, wingers only if their talent is far above that of the other two. A centre can play wing much easier than a wing can play centre. Also you don't draft for your lineup today, you draft the best player for a lineup tomorrow. I agree. But I would also be disappointed if the Jets moved up to #3 and took Strome. Little, Scheif, Lowry, Copp are all young so they are set for years. Little doesnt like playing wing as much as center. Perreault is also a center. So is Petan. You always want to be improving, but I dont think Center is the greatest need for the Jets. And really, neither is D. But if its Hanifin they want, you're talking about a franchise LHD to go with our franchise RHD Trouba. Then they start filling in some of the mid six and you could have a contender for 10 years.
