2015 NHL Draft And Trade Rumours

^^^^ That seems better than our two picks and Burmi. Cant see Pens going after Kessel. I can see them liking Frolik though. -
Didnt mean to hijack. lol Lawler was a lot better a few years back. Jim Ross was good enough for the both of them though. JR called it more like a sporting event and called it emotionally. Cole and JBL dont. Its not their fault per se, its how they are produced, its what WWE wants. Lots of inside reverences, burying guys, har har har jokes. None of which adds importance to the matches, angles or talent. When JBL goes off burying guys its usually Vince in his ear. Think back to when Randy Orton was hurt and couldnt lift weights. Vince brought him into the ring just to insult his physique calling his neck a stack of dimes. Thats the sort of humor he likes and it's counter-productive. JBL was actually pretty good when he first came back but now he's over-produced. JR made the matches seem far more important. Even Jesse as a "heel announcer" put guys over stronger and treated the matches and angles like "sporting" events. One of the problems with wrestling now a days is everyone is in on the joke, even WWE.

2015 NHL Draft And Trade Rumours

Hockeybuzz (yeah I know) says Jackets are close to getting the 3rd pick. -
Buff is aging and is a UFA next year. He'd get you more going to a team that sees him as the missing piece of the puzzle. Arizona will want younger players that can grow with their core and keep costs down. Though they do need a couple of vets to hit the salary floor.

Ken Wiebe @WiebeSunSports #NHLJets pending UFA Michael Frolik has six in-person meetings scheduled today. Smart of the versatile F to be proactive in interview period -
Frolik Conundrum
The Unknown Poster replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
All things equal, you take Frolik. But for the money difference, age, etc, you take Burmi. Frolik is the player he is. Burmi could flame out or be better than Frolik. He still has that potential. And I also think his attitude issues are over-stated. He didnt get along with the coach. But he worked his tail off on the ice, just didnt play the systems he was supposed to. Never heard a bad thing about him off ice and know people who stopped him on the street and in stores for pictures and conversation and he was always very nice. Remember the story of him showing up at an ice rink and playing hockey with kids for hours. -
Frolik Conundrum

OK now compare the last two years and Frolik has had 84 points in the NHL while Burmi had 73 in the KHL against vastly worse competition. (Best line in the league has Dustin Boyd and Nigel Dawes playing on it, for frame of reference) Cant compare apples and oranges. If we do that, we have to give greater weight to Burmi playing for Atlanta and Winnipeg when Frolik played for a loaded Blackhawks team, which then means Burmi was a lot better...and still younger and cheaper. To be honest, the results of the comparison surprised me. Burmi is better than a lot of people want to remember. And Frolik is solid but a 3rd line winger on a really good team, not the top line player he often was here. -
You say that like fans are taking JBL seriously when he says "Face X is terrible!" If you're watching wrestling and the way the announcers perceive the talent doesnt impact how you view them, then you're not the audience they're speaking to. In other words, if you're watching in a "not taking it seriously" role, then really, none of what wrestling does as an industry to present and promote it's wrestlers and angles really makes much of a difference to you. Though I'd argue that on a subconscious level it probably does. How can you take it seriously? JBL hates the faces and loves the heels. What part am I supposed to be taking as serious commentary? Thats sort of the point. The announcers' job is supposed to be to help get the talent and the stories over. Jim Ross was very good at that. Gorilla and Jesse were good at that. Cole and JBL are not good at that. It's the "new way" WWE does things between Vince and their long-time producer Kevin Dunn.

Frolik Conundrum

For fun, I compared Burmi and Frolik for the last three years they were both in the NHL (2010-2013). Burmistrov: 23 years old 194 Games 23 Goals 35 Assists 0.3 PPG -12 +4 0 Frolik: 27 years old 188 Games 19 Goals 37 Assists 0.3 PPG +1 -10 +5 At four years younger, upwards of $3 million+ cheaper and many years left of RFA status, Ill take Burmi. -

Yes. better to take a step back to take two steps forward then take one step forward to take two back. Pretty logical. its not like fans are going to riot in the streets if the Jets miss the playoffs while transitioning good young players into the line up -

Agents aren't comparinff Frolik to jets players. But jets management has a budget and is thinking of other jets players. -

Market value is market value. Frolik is going to get paid somewhere, whether it's here or not doesn't matter. Agents aren't comparing their clients to players just on the Jets, they are comparing their clients to other players league-wide. Should Frolik be paid more than Little? That question doesn't really make sense because Little is underpaid by today's contracts. If he was entering free agency this off-season he would easily draw $6 million+. And Little would be worth it. Frolik isnt. -

And yet one wants $5 million and one could probably be had for $1.5-ish. Burmi is a very good possession player. I'd be comfortable with him at 3RW if the other option is over-paying Frolik to play 3RW and get paid like a 2RW. I prefer the combination that gives us the better team. If it all fits under the salary cap, who cares if Frolik is overpaid by a million/year. The Jets care. As others have said, pay Frolik $1 million too much. And then Ladd and Buff want $3million too much. And Scheif, Lowry and Trouba want their "too much". Then what...? You over-pay for the final piece that makes you a cup contender. Dont over-pay one player when you're a bubble team. You can add Burmi, Ehlers AND another player for what Frolik would cost you. And I dont think Frolik is worth Burmi and Ehlers. -
Burying guys is entertaining but it isnt productive.
-
Nah he was awesome back in the day and his commentary is fantastic now. Commentary is very counter-productive. He's the "voice of Vince" (ie. Vince in his ear telling him what to say) and buries guys a lot. WWE used to be about cycling guys up to the top and now they are about getting no one over.

Star Trek Beyond begins filming in Vancouver shortly. Cast members are in town. Production people in trouble for cutting down trees in a provincial park. The usual. This film likely ends the Trek film revival for a few years. The Bad Robot produced Trek have been somewhat of a disaster.

2015 NHL Draft And Trade Rumours
The Unknown Poster replied to Rich's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
How big? Is #3 as high as they think they can move? If they made an offer to Arizona, would we assume they've talked to Edmonton and Buffalo as well or do we assume both those teams have zero interest in dealing? 3 is absolutely as high as any team can move up in this draft. The way Buffalo acted getting #2 I sort of wondered if a Lindros-level offer could be had there, though what team would make that offer, I dont know. Problem is, Arizona will be getting multiple offers for that pick. How bad do the Jets want it...will they give up Petan? -
NHL To Announce Expansion
The Unknown Poster replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Here are the rules the last time the NHL expanded: 26 of the 28 teams existing in the league at the time of the draft were each allowed to protect either one goaltender, five defensemen, and nine forwards or two goaltenders, three defensemen, and seven forwards. The Atlanta Thrashers and Nashville Predators had their entire rosters protected, as they were the two newest franchises in the league, only being in existence for one and two years respectively. For teams protecting only one goaltender, there was no experience requirement for those left unprotected. For teams protecting two goaltenders, each goaltender left unprotected must have appeared in either 10 NHL games in the 1999–2000 season or 25 games in the 1998–99 season and 1999–2000 seasons combined. A goaltender had to be in net for at least 31 minutes in each game for the game to be counted against these totals. At least one defenceman left unprotected by each team had to have appeared in at least 40 games in the 1999–2000 season or 70 games in the 1998–99 season and 1999–2000 seasons combined. At least two forwards left unprotected by each team had to have met the same requirements. 52 players were chosen in the draft, two from each participating franchise. Only one goaltender or one defenseman could be selected from each franchise. Both the Blue Jackets and the Wild were to use their first 24 selections on three goaltenders, eight defensemen, and thirteen forwards. The final two picks for each team could be any position. So for the Jets, it would depend on who is signed in two years (when expansion likely happens) but if the rules were the same we stand to lose either Helle, Comrie or maybe Hutch. Thats a high price. if we tried to keep two goalies, then we can only protect three D (Trouba, Myers, ???). I would suspect we'd protect one goalie and gamble on the expansion team selecting a veteran first and hope we dont lose a young goalie. The league is currently unbalanced, right? 14 teams in the West, 16 in the east. So the idea is the NHL always planned to expand by two teams in the west. Even if they didnt have a formal plan in mind, odds were the expansion would come in the west as opposed to the east. Most teams being talked about are in the West with the exception of Quebec and Toronto. I think Quebec is seen as an emergency back up for relocation. I also think the NHL assumed odds were Coyotes would be gone within their five year out clause so they either relocate to one of the west cities leaving Quebec for expansion or relocate to Quebec leaving two west cities for expansion (such as Vegas, Seattle etc). -

Nor do Edmonton, Buffalo and Toronto really seem to fit the verbiage of two mid first round picks. So lets assume it's the Jets, its interesting because we were all speculating the 25th pick, Burmi and a prospect (or am I mis-remembering?). Giving both pics and a player for #3...how do we feel about that? I guess it depends on the player. The idea being both picks and no prospect is good in that #3 is probably better than our two picks. We keep all our prospects. But who's the player? If it's Burmi, I dont know. If he doesnt want to be here, trade him, but with us not yet signing Frolik and Stafford, Burmi is an asset we might need. -
Good point Cam, regarding Moose during Grey Cup week. True North also helped out the Bombers when it came to the traffic plan at IGF. If you recall, when everyone was going nuts and it was a disaster, Bombers called in TN to help them come up with a plan. I know I'd feel a lot better knowing TN were involved in organizing Grey Cup.
