  1. Trouba's hit was also pretty key as the guy was poised to have a great opportunity. Trouba flew into him like a one man gang tackle.
  2. Ehlers is not AHL eligible.
  3. I would imagine a cut of the bar sales would do it. A place like Doubles isn't packing people in on a regular basis so anything that brings people in the door (even if they don't pay to get in) is a win for them. The price of a ticket compared to a few hours of drinking/eating is pretty small I would think. I guess. You have to pay for the wrestlers, their accomodations, their travel, renting ring equipment, paying someone to set everything up, security. I would think bringing in one "big name" to do a show would cost a thousand alone. Cost of one name:airfare hotel his pay for the night (anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand). When Kurt Angle left WWE, I was the first promotion that asked to book him. I was told $5000. i said done. The next day, the booking agent (TNA) emailed me to say sorry, it's now $10.000 and no video can be taken of the event (which is where promotions can make money, DVD sales). $5000 and DVD sales, I would have done but not $10 000 and no DVD.
  4. No one gets into promoting local wrestling to make money. If you make money, great. Winnipeg is a tough place because we're an "island" with no other strong markets nearby. That's why WWE rarely ever comes here. Other areas with more resources can certainly generate money but its a very few "indy" promotions that are good money-makers. I've made money. I've lost money. I have a great team of guys and we win together and lose together. For example, our last show was a huge success and we had 300 people at the show. Everyone got paid more and I got to go home with money in my pocket. Our first show in 2002 was at the IGAC at U of M. 1700+ fans. Eddie Guerrero, Honky Tonk Man, Brutus Beefcake and our crew. Made lots of money. Our next "big show" was a few months later and was a devastating loss even though we drew 1200 fans at Shaw Park. But the venue was an albatross around our necks and we almost ended up in court. Our main regular venue from 2002-2008 was the LID Nightclub where the owner was a close friend so we'd our regular weekly/monthly shows and aproximately quarterly we'd bring in WWE/TNA talent. I had a great deal with the venue because of my relationship with the owner. Doubles is a good venue. We have a good relationship. Another revenue stream is sponsorship. It used to be easier in Winnipeg but the wrestling business is highly competitive and can be somewhat nasty. And traditionally, not overly successful. Many promotions start because everyone thinks they know better...and then go out of business and the vast majority of people never even hear of them. We're the longest running promotion in the province (14+ years) and the only one currently running a regular reputable Winnipeg show. One of our competitors does tours every couple of months to small towns where they have managed to secure strong local sponsorship. I've never been a big fan of tours personally just because I dont want to go on the road. We've had shows where we sell a "guarantee". Ie. the venue pays X amount of dollars and then keeps all revenue (ticket sales etc). We've had deals where we get a small guarantee and the gate revenue. But yes, the main revenue is ticket sales. We've always been pretty decent with ticket sales. Wrestling is mostly cyclical in nature so we've had ups and down. The politics of wrestling impact you such as a competitor starting up and raiding your talent. For a time, there wasnt a lot of good young wrestlers being produced locally. We experienced an increase in young talent with several guys coming from Lance Storm's academy in Calgary. Having Kenny Omega on our roster helps with giving incentives to guys to want to be here. And I think our shows are fun and entertaining from a creative perspective so the boys enjoy taking part. I could go on for days lol. Lots of stories. Lots of stories about the big names. We've brought in: Eddie Guerrero (Last North American show before re-signing with WWE) Honky Tonk Man (several times) Brutus Beefcake Jim Neidhart Chris Sabin Petey Williams Amazing Red Steve Corino (many times) Christopher Daniels Ultimo Dragon Brian Christopher Black Pearl Davey Richards El Generico (Sammy Zayn in WWE) Kevin Steen (Kevin Owens in WWE) Samoa Joe (3 times) AJ Styles Probably a few im forgetting... Whoops forgot the Road Warriors and Buff Bagwell.
  5. Ehlers is Jets or junior and he's way to good for junior so I'd suspect they he makes the team but I think they'd want him in a role more suited to his skillset than the 4th line. Thus, the 3rd line. He could also, as a rookie, spend time scratched and learning in practice. I also think there is a chance the Jets return him. If he's not good enough for the Jets but too good for Junior, he will go back to Junior. Ladd-Little-Stafford Perrault-Scheif-Wheeler Ehlers-Lowry-Frolik Stemp-O'Dell-Thorburn That would give Ehlers a couple of really smart, hard-nosed guys to play with, Lowry to protect him, Frolik to teach him.
  6. Thorburn looks a lot better when he's on a good 4th line. That's the right role for him. If he's on the 2nd or 3rd line, that's a fail. When he's the best player on the 4th line, that's a fail. If our 4th line next season is Stemp-O'Dell-Thorburn, that's probably a victory.
  7. For any of you fellow lovers of True Crime, I just blasted through a book about the Jonbenet case. I had been interested when it happened ofcourse but the recent news reignited my interest. The book I was was by Steve Thomas, one of the lead detectives and a guy who caused a sensation when we actually quit police work over the case and in his letter of resignation explained his reasons (which was the stonewalling and protecting of the Ramsay's by the DA). I have followed the OJ case very closely over the years and this case is similar but different. Whereas OJ had overwhelming physical and DNA evidence that directly tied him to the murders, the Ramsay case has no such (or very little) evidence because of the botching of the crime scene. But the mountain of circumstantial evidence points squarely at the parents, more specifically Patsy, to such an extent that it's really shocking that she was never charged. Recent news reveals that the Grand Jury in 1999 actually DID indict the parents but then DA Alex Hunter refused to sign. The DA had made up their minds that they would never prosecute the Ramsays without a confession and have maintained that an intruder did it. When you consider the facts, the intruder theory is preposterous. There were only three people in the house that night that could have done it - mom, dad, brother. And handwriting experts determined that the "war & peace" ransom note was written by Patsy. Anyway...I reccomend the book if you like True Crime and I'd love to discuss the case (or others, like OJ) with other True Crime lovers on here.
  8. Halischuk has been good in my opinion. i'd keep him for depth as the 12/13 forward.
  9. Tlusty has been the lesser of the new guys. Stemp brings a lot of talent to the 4th line with the ability to play up in the case of injuries. I assume he'd be interested since he said he seriously considered a Jets offer last summer. Jets will surely make Stafford an offer but he will have several offers after his play since the trade.
  10. Dale's pretty much on the staff already, what with all those kids we're drafting from Barrie Someone mentioned Dale's kid so I looked him up. Just turned 17, plays for...wait for it...wait for it...Barrie. Wonder if he has a shot at making it (drafted 6th round by Barrie if I recall).
  11. What an animal. Returns last night without the shield and played hard in the third. He's all balls. Captain Wheeler.
  12. Darrin Bauming @DarrinBauming The hot hand will take a break with five-straight wins, and Michael Hutchinson will get the start in goal for the #NHLJets tonight.
  13. While I have not done so, my understanding is it is very easy to stream the US version. When you sign up, you need to use any random US address and a router but once signed up, you never need the router again (or so I have been told). The benefit to the Canadian version is the PPV's on terrestrial channel so you have no worries about streaming.buffering issues when a million+ people all try to watch WrestleMania. Our content is delivered from the source via satellite.
  14. I'm very excited by this. I loved the X-Files. It was cant miss programming for young me. When the gf admitted she had never seen it (but loved DD from Californication) I bought the entire series and movies and we watched them from beginning til end. Sure, the show begun to collapse under the weight of it's own mythology and they had to keep revealing the truth, then changing the truth, then lying, then revealing etc etc but ultimately, it was historic television and I loved it. I've been saying for years that X-Files was an obvious choice for a "re-boot" with the main actors all still happy to do television. If I'm FOX, I'm using this limited run to set up a potential new regular series with new leads and a few of the originals as guest stars (use Skinner as the connecting character). Can't wait!
  15. The X-Files Returns to Fox After 13-Year Break You can believe The truth is right here, and it’s amazing: After 13 years off the air, The X-Files is officially returning to Fox as a limited series. Stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are back on board, along with creator Chris Carter. “I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” Carter said. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.” The only part of this huge news you might not like: There are only six episodes planned. “We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of The X-Files – one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers – and we couldn’t be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again,” said Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group. “The X-Files was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture – yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as The X-Files, and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.” The sci-fi procedural classic first premiered in 1993. It became one of Fox’s first major breakout hits and a pop-culture sensation that went on to last nine seasons and spawn two feature films. The show also earned 16 Emmys and helped pave the way for other prime-time sci-fi shows like ABC’s Lost and Fox’s Fringe. Once again, the series will follow FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) as they investigate unexplained cases. Carter’s “six stories” comment seems to suggest the series will embrace the show’s original format of focusing on stand-alone mysteries rather than delving into the serialized alien conspiracy mythology that dominated some of the show’s episodes and its first feature film (at least, that’s what I want to believe). The move follows Fox reviving another one of its hits, 24, for a shortened run last year. The X-Files deal has been in the works since at least January when executives told reporters at the network’s press tour presentation that they were trying to revive the show. The X-Files will start production this summer. There’s no premiere date yet, and no word if other cast members from the original series will return. This article originally appeared on EW.com.
  16. We pay the same for Netflix as the US. We luck out. Although the US version has significantly more content. Also keep in mind that for WWE Network in Canada, it is not an Over The Top service offered by WWE and they do not get your $11.99. They licensed the Canadian Network rights to Rogers for a fee (said to be very significant and was "too good to pass up").
  17. A lot has been asked of him. I think he is doing well under the pressure. He has good guys to learn from and will get better. He will be Captain one day.
  18. Given the exchange rate, it's not bad. But since we get less than half what the Americans do, it's not really a "fair" price. But since I have routinely paid $60+ for WM in the past, and have already watched several shows since last week, it's been money well spent thus far. Also, anything that saves me from having to go to Pony Corral to watch is a huge bonus. That place drives me crazy.
  19. 9pm. There is a food menu and full bar. @PCWlegacy on twitter, I will have more updates and things closer to the show. Oh and adults only at this venue as they have VLT's in the room. Security *will* ID you.
  20. Trouba led in ice time at 24 minutes. I *think* recent ice time leaders have been closer to 27 minutes so it sounds like they used their third pairing a bit more which is wise with the back to back game. It seemed to me they used their 3rd/4th lines more too (and have been trending that direction over this winning streak).
  21. Must be his habit. Just kidding. I didnt notice that he looked off though many of the Jets were pretty sloppy (giving me concern for tonight). But I did notice that Myers was awesome. Hes quickly becoming our best D.
  22. it would be amusing if he had to honour his KHL contract. The NHL will certainly make him. if he comes back, you have to question his intelligence to walk away from $77 million dollars only to come back a few years later for a lot less money. I hope the K paid him very very well. I always liked him though. Very talented and if I recall correctly he played tough.
  23. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/report-ilya-kovalchuk-eyeing-return-nhl/ The 2016 NHL off-season could be an interesting one. A report from Finland’s Iltalehti says Ilya Kovalchuk has expressed to his KHL club, SKA Saint Petersburg, a desire to return to the NHL for the 2016-17 season. According to the KHL website, Kovalchuk’s contract with SKA expires on April 30, 2017. The 31-year-old star has spent the past two seasons in the KHL after shocking the hockey world in July 2013 when he left the NHL. In order to facilitate the move back to his home country, the uber-talented winger had to officially retire from the NHL and in doing so, leave $77 million on the table three years into the 15-year, $100-million contract he signed with the New Jersey Devils in 2010. If Kovalchuk does choose to return to the NHL in 2016, the move will need to be approved by all 30 NHL teams because Kovalchuk signed his voluntary retirement papers. Otherwise he’d have to wait until the 2018-19 season to return to the NHL as an unrestricted free agent at age 35. It’s too early to say whether or not there would be a team or teams opposed to Kovalchuk returning, however, according to a 2013 report from Larry Brooks of the New York Post, if Kovalchuk sits out a full calendar year he can return to the NHL as a UFA prior to 2018-19 as long as he gets consent from the Devils. Shortly after his decision to leave the Devils, Kovalchuk’s sister was quoted as saying her brother planned on returning to the NHL after spending at least three seasons in the KHL. Kovalchuk responded to those claims by saying, "I am not going to Russia to start thinking about coming back to the NHL." Kovalchuk was taken first overall by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2001 NHL Draft. In 816 career NHL games he has 417 goals and 816 points. He ranks 18th in NHL history averaging .511 goals per game. Only Steven Stamkos (.565) and countryman Alex Ovechkin (.625) average more goals per game among active NHLers.
  24. As far as tonight's goalie, damned if you do, damned if you dont. if Pavs starts and sucks, people say come on we knew that would happen. If Hutch starts and sucks, people say why didnt you ride the hot hand? Ill trust the coach who's in the room and knows his goalies. I'd go with Hutch for two reasons. 1) History 2) the Jets plays sloppy in Edmonton and have given up a lot of shots the last couple of games. Going with Hutch *should* shake up the team a bit and have them locking things down a bit more.
  25. Which promotion? Might as well give it a plug while we're on the subject! I've been meaning to get out to some local shows but I've had other stuff going on every time there's a show I want to see. Haven't followed the WWF/E for a while now. Got a little tired of the product they were putting out shortly after the Invasion angle and haven't really been able to get back into it. Recently I've just been reliving the late 90's through torrents and whatnot. That being said, I try to watch Wrestlemania and maybe the Rumble each year just to keep tabs on what's going on. I run Premier Championship Wrestling, Kenny Omega's home promotion. Next show is Saturday April 18th at Doubles. Anyone from the board that wants to give it a shot, let me know and Ill be happy to provide comps. Kenny wont be in town for the 18th but it will be a fun show anyway. Im like you - I watch Rumble and WrestleMania and thats about it.
